thanks for the pics, Tsuki chan. you're so lucky.

could you maybe make your pics a little smaller? they stretch the page, eek
I was about to say... If you can't resize them, post links or thumbnails instead.

If you don't know how to make a thumbnail I'll help you.

Libby and I performing at the Welcome Ceremony for the Mayor of Kauai. From Left to Right: Kaori, Yuka, me, Libby, Brent, and someone who I can't remember. Yuka and Kaori went to Kauai as exchange students last year. Libby and Brent are the other exchange students from Kauai. Me before the Jidai Matsuri Parade in Kyoto. Uhm. Yay. Wow, all those pics look like some sort of festival, which is what I'm guessing it is...?

Just last month I went to Osaka, Japan and stayed with Hitomi, a girl I hosted when she came to America. It was awesome!! I have an album up of some of the pictures she and I took: (Osaka 2005)

And here's some purikura we took!

It looks like you had a ton of fun, I'm so jealous. My good friend from my japanese class just left for fall semester at Kansai Gaidai (in the Osaka-prefecture, so he'll be around where you were). I feel like the women of Kansai need to be warned that they are all about to hit on by a skinny tall tattooed American. If you are there, his name is Ian, tell the girls to stay away. biggrin

Ha, I WISH I was there. As soon as I got home I wanted to go back again!

But to tell you the truth, there were some downsides, too. But I like to put it this way:

--36 bug bites
--3 dog bites
--food poisoning
--ear infection
--two weeks of menstruation
--a slight hickey O_o
--being called gaijin by yakuza
--losing eight pounds after being sick
--having the flu
--rooming with an over-talkative preaching mormon who speaks Japanese in a hick accent despite her three years of Japanese Language class ("duu ittiishiimeshattuh!!")
--missing the world expo in Nagoya
--missing the golden temple
--missing tokyo towers AND the imperial palace
--throwing up 2 out of 10 hours on the plane
--FINALLY getting home... and missing Japan terribly

It was worth all that and more, quite frankly. I loved it. Especially the first week when I stayed with my host family; they were so nice to me, and so considerate, and so much fun to be with!

I won't get back there until next year (hopefully, if mine and Kazuya's plans don't fall through), but I'm just glad to be going back! I hope they end up visiting me, too. Hitomi's really awesome and a ton of fun to shop and go to Karaoke with, and Kazuya is, well, the nicest person I've ever met. They don't make boys like that here.. sweatdrop

I think I'd crap my pants trying to talk to a yakuza; I didn't even realize this guy with an eyepatch and smoking a cigar was a yakuza member until I noticed (AFTER he walked away) the hand he was holding a cigar with was missing several joints of pinkie eek

"hosts" are the ones who are in trainstations trying to recruit hostesses. They're young and really not frightening at all. I wouldn't go near any of the more threatening yakuza members.

ooooh, okay. What do they usually look like, and where in Japan(city-wise) would you most likely find them in a trainstation? I musta missed them; then again, in Tokyo I wasn't really paying attention to passerbys, just trying to follow Uyesugi-sensei's fast-paced wandering rolleyes

They generally wear oversized suits, and the men wearing them generally can be called attractive. They come out usually after 6PM in major trainstations/subway stations to look for attractive women. I've been told the ones in Osaka are fairly bold and walk up to almost anyone, but elsewhere in Japan they shy away from foreigners.
