11.06.04 "Woah! Gyre, don't put that in your mouth!" Lu squealed as Gyre ravenously started chewing on the sheep plushie toy. She drooled and started to carry it away in her mouth. Lu chased after her, retrieving the poor thing. "Guin gave this to you! You should thank her! Or something...Wait! I have an idea! You. Come with me." She picked up Gyre, who portested mindlessly and waved her stubby arms after the plush toy. Lu crept back into her room to rummage through her toychest. She set Gyre down on her bed, where she immediatley lept off and landed in the toychest. Lu sighed as Gyre began to swim through all of the plushies. At last, she surfaced with a few choice toys in her mouth. "We'll have to clean those, but do you want to give them to Guin as a thank-you?" Gyre nodded repeatedly, the toys bouncing up and down in her mouth. "Alright, let's get them cleaned up and head on over to Pink's place."

11.07.04 Well, Gyre's officially awake, and is very busy sniffing our newest arrival! Little Lucius came to us late yesterday night, all wrapped up in a bundle on the front porch. He was calm and sweet, just sitting there, blinking up at me... I made him a "nest" too, next to Gyre at the foot of my bed. I stayed up late to make sure she didn't awaken to tear his face off. But now, in the light of the living room, they're getting along quite nicely... ...amazingly. She sniffed him and growled when he first arrived, but I think after she realized that he's a bird too...They've been playing happily with plushies and blocks ever since! Gyre likes to touch his wings, and Lucius doesn't seem to mind at all. I think Gyre likes her new baby brother.

Yesterday, too, Gyre and I dropped in the HQ to visit with other Legends for a while. There, we met Kamiki and Kistumai! Kamiki's a wonderfully nice fox-woman, and Kitsumai is some sort of mix between fox, dragon and centaur...I think.
Gyre said her first word! All thanks to little Kitsu, Gyre's first word was "pony". Well, it sounded more like "pownie", but we understood. It was so cute! Gyre learned to color with Kitsu, using crayons and a drawing pad.
It was a wonderful experience for her. I think she's finally calming down a bit, and has a new friend!
The sun was shining brightly that morning, the glittering rays peeking through the curtains. Lucius' lanterns lit just like the always did, soaking up the rays of the morning. Lu stretched and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She crawled to the edge of the bed to awaken the two nesting birds on the floor.
"Gyre. Lucius. Time to wake up..." she yawned.
"Hoo..." came a sleepy, but happy, answer.
"Gyre? Sweetie...wakey-wakey." Lu bent down to gentle poke at the mass of blankets and plushies that was Gyre's "nest". After no response came, she poked again. Lucius sat up.
"Hoo?"
Lu poked a third time. Then, she removed the blankets all together. Gyre wasn't in the bed like she should've been. Lu then noticed her bedroom door was ajar, light shining in from the open kitchen door.
"Gyre!!"

Stunned, worried and horrified, Lu stumbled outside. She thought she saw a trail of baby blankets leading to the large tree that stood watch over her backyard. She held Lucius close, examining the remnants of Gyre's 'nest' sitting beneath the large tree. Dreading it, she looked up the tree.
"Gyre!" she cried, seeing her bird child napping in a real nest atop a plateau in the tree. She dozed quietly, her hair coming loose from her braids and dancing in the wind. Lu could hear the faint cry of a hawk. She got worried.
"Gyre! I'm coming up there to get you down!" Lu knew she probably couldn't understand, but called out the instructions for her own sanity. She set Lucius down at the base of the tree, knowing full well that he would obey her. Starting to climb, she made slow progress to the middle of the tree.
"Hoo!" Lucius called. Gyre's ears twitched and she awoke, blinking her silver eyes in the morning sun. She sat up, watching her guardian cling to the trunk of the tree. She smiled, amused. Lu looked up, shocked. Until this point, she didn't even think about how Gyre got up there. She had no wings, to her knowledge.
Then...how?
Lu couldn't hold on. She started to slip down the tree, her feet scraping the bark. Lucius kept hooting, Gyre watching him. When Lu stood firmly on the ground again, she tried to appeal to Gyre.
"Sweetie, I'm not mad! Just, please come down!" she cried helplessly.
Gyre blinked, watching for Lucius' approval. When it came, she took the mask she always wore into her tiny little hands, placing it over her face. Before their eyes, she transformed. She begame a small falcon, gliding effortlessly down to the ground. A brilliant light came again, and Gyre was herself, mask and all.
"Gyre!" Lu clutched her and her brother (of sorts) close, sighing in relief. She didn't want to think about the paradox that was the mask just yet. She wanted to first make breakfast and quit shaking so much...

Gyre seems to be fine after that episode in the tree. I'm not sure why she did it, and I know she can't answer me to the extent I'd like. She's only a baby...But still! I'd like to know why, all of a sudden, she used the mask. And it has the power to change her! I had no idea! I figured it was just for decoration...
Now she keeps smiling. Is it because she feels smug, or she's proud of herself? I can't tell. She still requests nothing but meet, but allows me to slip in a piece of fruit every once in a while. I suppose she's gotten more agreeable as the days go by...
I've introduced her to several varieties of music, but her favorite remains classical using wind instruments. Nature sounds, too. Maybe they remind her of home?
I've decided to try and invite another Legend over to play. Hopefully Guin or Kistumai wouldn't mind...

Something's wrong with both my babies...
After Gyre's excursion into the giant tree in the backyard, she's been losing feathers like mad. I really hope all it is molting. I know that birds molt occasionally, but I really don't know under what circumstances.
Gyre's a little annoyed by it, but she seems to be handling it just fine. She's even been collecting the feathers she loses into a pile in her nest. I offered to clean it up, but she hissed at me. As usual, I guess.
I'll have to ask in the HQ if this is normal...

Well, I was reading a lot on this "molting" thing. Seems as though baby birds do it to grow more adult feathers. It's natural, according to the books. So I guess Gyre's perhaps preparing for the coming winter with some new down or something? Sounds good to me!
Her diet still consists of meat, but she's allowing me to slip in a veggie or two from time to time.
I'm going to try and make her some sort of wind instrument, since she adores hearing them. Maybe she'll learn to play it someday?
She's still trying to go near Heartrender. I keep it in the chest as always, but Gyre seems hellbent on trying to get it out...Sometimes she's so troublesome...

Well, Gyre's done molting, I think. (I hope.) The vacuum cleaner has never had such a workout in its entire life, but it did the job. Gyre's got a few feathers of old piled up in her nest. They're soft, so she enjoys sleeping on them. She's grown new feathers just like the old ones, except they seem stronger than last time. Maybe because of her excursion into the tree out back?
She still hasn't used the mask since, but I'm still not sure why she did in the first place. It's still a puzzle to me. I don't get any answers, either, since she's still a baby.
She and Lucius have been getting along just fine. Gyre hasn't been speaking too many new words. She likes to stick to "pony", "friend" and "Lushis" (which is her attempt at her little brother's name.) Very cute. Has to be recorded.

Gyre and I traveled to the HQ yesterday. There, we met many new people and Legends! Gyre had a little...scuffle with a canine Legend named Loki. She gave him a few scratches and bites, and he did the same to her. He seems like a bully, and Gyre didn't like him one bit. She thought he was a cat at first, too, which didn't make matters any better.
Guin was there, and Gyre had to say hello to her. Also, a deerlike Legend, Keita, was roaming about with a wonderful woman named Britian.
Naita appeared holding her deceased child, Breena. It's so sad, I felt so bad for her. Gyre couldn't help but sniff at Breena. Naita was so depressed. I really need to go over there to cheer her up...

Turkey day! Gyre and I cruised on over to the HQ, where Chesai was spazzing out to get everything done. She looked like a phoenix Legend, and could cook turkey with her tail! I thought that was pretty amazing. Gyre had another run-in with Loki, but there wasn't any fighting this time. Thankfully, too, since Gyre's still a little bandaged from their last encounter.
Another Legend I had never seen - Dare - was there as well. He seemed to have grown very recently, since he seemed to be very uneasy and ackward with his new height.
Gyre tackled Guin again. It seems to me that Gyre's very loyal to those she loves. An admirable trait. She's becoming more and more civilized (except around Loki) every day. Makes me proud.
We all sat around and ate Thanksgiving food stuffs. Gyre voraciously dug into the turkey, but Lucius wouldn't touch it. Maybe he thinks it could be cannibalism? Well, whatever the case, it was a wonderful Thanksgiving.

After a long day of napping for the both of us, I took Gyre into the HQ again. There, she met Prana, a bear Legend, and Keita the deer. Keita's a warm, soft, fuzzy little fawn, and Gyre lolved to touch his ears. Prana did, too, and Keita loved the attention. He's such a cutie.
Prana was sad, so Gyre gave her one of her feathers. Gyre didn't know why Prana was sad, but I guess she figured it was better than nothing. Prana liked it very much, and kept it somewhere safe.
This meeting made me realize how far Gyre has come from her screaming, biting and growling self when I first met her. I think she feel more comfortable with the animal Legends, but Guin will always be her first friend.

12/01/04 Christmas time! Time to get everyone ready for the Christmas season! I allowed Patience (who grew up to an adult recently) to take the children out for some holiday shopping. She has the purse and the two-seater stroller to cruise around Baton and Durem for some shopping. Quote: Patience's Shopping Trip! The air was cold and crisp, but the children and their caretaker were clothed in warm jackets and shoes. Patience, the adult Ivysaur now, pushed them along Batron Street in their stroller. Lucius hooed happily at every twinkling light, while Gyre's chubby arms shot out at every Christmas tree. The bird children were delighted beyond all reasoning. Patience stopped in many stores, including a pet shop, where the children got to gaze at puppies and kittens. Gyre, of course, didn't trust the cats, but Lucius smashed his face up against the plastic cages. Patience took them out of the stroller to carry them around, looking at bird toys and treats. When Patience wasn't looking, Gyre snatched up a dog bone into her mouth and chewed on it until Patience realized what was going on. She apologized to the store manager, and he let it slide. They were just too cute. After some shopping at the mall, they stopped at a candy store, where the children got their first taste of sugary sweets. Gyre didn't like the lollypop's taste very much, but it was tree shaped and she kept it for that. Lucius was busy popping small candies into his mouth on the way back to the store. Patience picked up several gifts for everyone in the house. The children helped hold some of the smaller items in their laps. Gyre was very happy to help out, and Lucius was, too. They got along very nicely. Gyre treated him as a younger brother, teaching him all she knew. Patience giggled as they fell asleep on the way back. Not too many heavy items, but her Vine Whip always helped to carry them. As they slept, visions of Christmas snow, bright lights and Christmas trees danced in their heads. Yeah, no sugarplums. They don't know what those are.

Orphne A young woman sidles down the walkway with a light paper parcel in hand, a neat crimson, satin ribbon fastened about the exterior. Waya clings to her shirt hem as the pair stroll up to the front door and set the parcel down.
The little wolf-boy sifts through a pouch at his side and pulls out a small piece of parchment, tucks it under the knot in the ribbon, and smiles up at Orphne. He leans forward as the woman backs away slowly, and he stabs the doorbell with a quick jab of his finger, then dodges out of the way and runs down the walk to catch up with his mother.
The two kiss the house good-bye and race eachother cheerily down the street to the next home. Inside the note
Happy Holidays to Lu and Gyre!We did a little shopping after Thanksgiving and thought we'd pick out something special for each of the families this year. We wish you a jolly Christmas, a happy Hannukah, a merry Kwanzaa, and good tidings during the holiday season. Enjoy!
Much love, Waya and OrphneQuote: Inside the package rests a Morning Star Lantern:

"I'm getting the paper! Make sure she doesn't kill anything!" Lu wailed back inside whilst blindly opening the door. Down in the snow on the porch lay a package. She was curious, and bent down to inspect it. Inside lay a lantern of the misty morning. It was darling! "From Waya and Orphne...Oh! I simply have to get them something..." she pondered aloud, and wondered how much her Legend would adore this little trinket. She imagined Gyre would love it, seeing as it was brownish like she was. Lu became excited and rushed inside to prepare for her shopping trip, completely forgetting about the paper. "Gyre! Guess what someone brought us!" Lucifer Force 12.06.04 Patience came home yesterday after some shopping, saying that she took Gyre into the HQ briefly. There, she met Karan and Demare. Although the meeting was brief, Gyre was very well-behaved, and liked to show off a bit for the new babies. Demare didn't like to be social much, and Gyre didn't seem to like that. Karan, from what I've heard, seems lazy, but is very cute. He's got both the moon and sun symbolized on him, from what Patience said. Cute as a button, and very friendly. He seemed fascinated with Gyre's wings. Perhaps she likes to show off for everyone? She's calmed down a lot since she started going to the HQ. Which reminds me, I hafta take her out shopping for the family! Wouldn't that be a trip to remember? Lu

12.10.04 "No, Gyre!" Rip, tear, chomp, chew..."Gyre, blinky as it may be, you cannot eat that Christmas light!" The bird girl blinked up at her guardian. I can't eat it? Well then, what's the point? Spitting out the plastic light, Gyre returned to "supervising" her caretaker in the decoration of the Christmas tree. What Chirstmas was, she did not know, but it involved having a tree in the house, which she very much approved of. Why make it all blinky, though? It was nice enough as-is. Lucius, of course, came to help. His visions seemed to have subsided, though that wasn't really her problem. Brother he may be, but she couldn't read minds to try and help. She would just be in the way. Lucius took to pushing the cardboard boxes of garland around with his head. He seemed to enjoy it. He'd tumble into the box every so often, popping out looking like a sparkly hooker on a corner. The bird children laughed. Christmas was okay, as far as they were concerned. Watching Lu almost kill herself on a ladder was worth a good laugh, too. And they were told they'd be getting gifts. Lucius thought that was a wonderful idea. Gyre wasn't sure if she'd get anything she'd like. After Lu and Patience finished setting up the tree, Neruo floated up the top to place a giant golden star at the apex of the branches. Very nice. Neruo helped to rearrange the ornaments near the top, so Lu didn't have to get the ladder out again. He helped to hand out tiny cups of milk to the children, and read them a Christmas story from an old family book. The clock striking ten, Lu could not find the children. Searching high and low, she finally found them - sleeping beneath the Christmas tree. Too precious to awaken, she merely took a picture instead.
