I enjoy studying religion because it is interesting to see what other people believe. I am an atheist but i listen to my cousin who is wiccan. I will never become a wiccan but it is interesting to see what he believes.

Plus the more religions you read, the more exotic ones you discover, and the more you realize how man made they are, especially when you concider how tailered they are to the people's need.

I study religoins because I like mythologies, and it's all mythology to me. Christianity is just as man-made and false as the Ancient Greek religion.
just as a side note, next to most ancient mythologies Christianity is decidedly boring stare

1. For some unknown reason, religions inherently fascinate me.
2. Know thy enemy. But to be fair, it's more like learning about baboons. wink Throwing Biblical quotes and related facts at fundies could be considered an addiction of mine~
3. To find the reality behind them. It's really interesting to see how they began, and what they're really all about. I've found that Christianity is extremely selfish, for example. What can you expect from something that started as a radical sect of Judaism?
And I've gotta agree with (insert s/n that I forgot here) about feeling sorry for those who follow certain religions. sad Especially the Catholics; it's a sad day indeed when people are robbed of their ability to think for themselves.

Because when the hardcore atheist knows more about your religion than you do, it's actually kind of funny. Plus, it's so much easier to prove that religion is bullshit when you have a huge list of similarities between all the religions we know of.

Not quite sure, but probably because I love learning about other people's way of life.

Dathu Plus the more religions you read, the more exotic ones you discover, and the more you realize how man made they are, especially when you concider how tailered they are to the people's need. No they aren't! If you believe God will give you forgiveness, that's trufax, not tailored manmade stuff.

Because a lot of really good stories come out of religion, and if you're going to talk about culture or art you're going to see those stories referenced.

The only reason I'm studying about Islam is that I'm studying Arabic. Otherwise I wouldn't had gone too far. However, religion is very influential on our world. It affects the lives of many people. It's worth knowing what it is about.

I can find beauty in every religion and can enjoy their cultures, artwork, food, and sects. It doesn't mean I have to enjoy their radical members.
Finding parallels is also fun and contemplating if all humans have deep-seated links to one another is interesting.

I do it because I'm an Anthropologist and am inquisitive by nature. I find all of these different perspectives, lifeways, etic and emic explanations of their beliefs quite interesting. It connects the world holistically for me.
When I feel the connection, I feel inner peace.
