Oooh - not only was this creepy old mansion full of wonderfully old things (albeit also kinda creepy), it was full of wonderfully old books. The situation just kept on weighing drastically in two different directions, namely 'You really should get out of here, it might not be and probably isn't safe' versus 'Oh wow! What else is there??'. Some day he was going to have to get a very firm, suffocating hold of his curiosity and asphyxiate the little bugger for good. Then again, it hadn't killed him yet.

"D's amay-ing," he said, belatedly remembering to swallow. And, when he had, "Any sort of genre you're particularly inclined to seek out or you got a bit of everything in there?"

Eclipse shook his head as he placed his glass back on the table "lets just say I have been collecting them for years so I dont really have a particular genre so there is sort of everything in there. Though I love alot of authors and even have my own favorites like Dickens, Alcott, Anderson, Austin, Shakespear and the like. However my favorite author would have to be Edgar Alan Poe" he said to the other as he toyed with his glass a little "I have loved his work for years." Eclipse said as he pushed a bit of hair out of his face and back behind his ear. "Do you have a partcular genre or author you like? Assuming you like to read of course" he said to the other, pleased to have his company which was strange even for Eclipse.

Gideon wilted a little at the list of fiction authors. Oh well. Then again, maybe not so much - Eclipse didn't have to tell him everything after all, maybe there were other things in that library? There was bound to be at least one... 'interesting' object in this entire house. And if he could manage for it to accidentally fall in his bag or something...

Thief was a dirty word. But Gideon was kinda dirty himself, so normally it didn't bother him. Besides, he always made a point of leaving stuff where it could be reasonably easily found, if the previous owner looked hard enough for it, didn't he? Mostly. There were a couple odd trinkets and books that had found their ways to other hands for more permanent residence, but those had been due to, for the most part, very special, very life-threatening situations.

"Oh me? Uh..." how to put this... "I read... --wait, yes, yes I'm literate - I read..." .......................................... "Obscure, somewhat anthropological history, for the most part." Which was the least obvious way he could find of saying 'Magic'. "And the daily horoscope." Which was also true.

If there was one think Eclipse hated it was stealing, granted he had stolen in the past, how else would he have gotten so rich? However he didnt steal from right under the nobelmans noses, he just waited till they were dead by his mouth before he cleaned them out. The library was 'guarded' by Priscilla who would be more then happy to hiss and make a fuss over anything that was wrong in the library, she loved that place, and anyone who soiled it in anyway would have her on their backs in an instant.

Not only that the ghosts that haunted this house would also be glad to help protect anything that was in this house also as the ghosts were of past occupants who had died here and were rather protective of their belongings. The stuff in this house belonged to them and as long as the stuff stayed in the house they would be more then happy to let the new owner(s) used said stuff. So in their eyes they knew that the rat wouldnt get far with taking anything if the fox wasnt watching and would be pleased to 'punish' him if need be but they also know the fox can do that so it depends on who gets the chance.

Eclipse took a sip of his drink and then placed the glass back onto the table once more "well thats rather interesting reading" he said to the other. "Its not often you run into people who like reading about magic and horroscopes, usually both go hand in hand with skeptism which many people have" He said to the rat conversationally.

"I am glad to meet someone who is open minded" he said to the other before hearing the grandfather clock chime in the main 'room' if you could call it that. The fox sighed softly and toyed with the glass as he thought about the possibility of when he would bite the rats neck, he hadnt had blood from the source in ages and now decided to go ahead and do it.

"Oh..." Gideon said, honestly shocked to the bone. He blinked. Once. Twice. Stared. He'd dropped his utensils, not quite suddenly but automatically, hands now interlocked with each other as he looked at the fox more carefully now. Because all those hints he'd picked up before... those scents... those feelings, that idea of strangeness - couldn't possibly be just his imagination now. Not if they were on the same brainwave - meaning, specifically, that Eclipse had picked up what he meant by 'obscure anthropological history'.

"Oh," he said again, head tilting to the side. Then, recovering from his surprise, "Yes... magic... ah... I'm not a practitioner," he confessed, quickly. "The... horoscope is more of my domain."

Eclipse bit back the urge to snicker and took another drink, a longer one then usual and put his glass back down. Eclipse did such a 'trick' as some would call it just because he wanted to scare the other out of him wishing to steal anything. Granted wether it worked or not was another matter but thanks to the ghost of an old mind reader that used to live here he now knew of what he was thinking as she had just told him moents before.

Eclipse also wanted more fun, something he knew would probably scare the rat but right now he decided to toy with him a little, show him a little bit of what he has gotten himself into. Granted it would be up to him to treat this however he likes but still he was going to have some fun now that he had seen his reaction to what was stated before.

"Interesting, so, did your horrorscope tell you today that you would be wishing to steal things out of your hosts home as well?" he asked the other curiously with a raised eyebrow as he took another sip of his drink.

"Actually, it said--oh my stars," Gideon broke off, interlocked fingers clenching together suddenly as he stared harder at Eclipse. Eepie.

"No," he squeaked, "Just something about a sudden reverse and the single... stagnancy... in the stream..." his voice trailed away and his shoulders drew up - or perhaps he sunk down - into a huddle. Don't admit don't admit don't admit don't admit. Oh stars.

Eclipse got up and looked out the door at the ghost that had curtsied to him and nodded his head a little as an indignation of 'thanks' and walked over to the rat, standing beside him. "Well it seems that with you acting like you are it doesnt seem you are completely telling the truth" he said to the other, crouching down close to one side of the rats neck and taking in the sweet faint scent.

"After everything I have done for you, been nice to you, be gracious enough to feed you, invite you into my own home and you replay me by wishing to steal from me? I have never been so offended in my whole life. And here I thought we could be friends" He said to the rat in his still calm yet serious tone "you can deny it all you want but how your acting now obviously shows the truth" he said as he got close to the rat and whispered in his ear.

"But now you will pay" he said as he opened his mouth forced the rats head to the sunk his fangs down into the warm flesh of the rats Jugular vain and started to drink.

Gideon had sunk lower and lower into his chair throughout Eclipse's scolding, visions of shame mounting in his mind and drowning out the previous paranoia. Which, in retrospect, was a really awful thing. Because now he knew. Now he understood. It was, admittedly, a little late, seeing as he'd already been bitten.

Vampire.

Gasping for life, as is always the first instinct when encountered with the prospect of death, the would-be thief struggled to regain contact with his common sense, to overpower the fear, the hurt welling up. This was why he'd been so skittish in this house - vampire.

Good thing Madison had beaten the 'be prepared' instinct into his teacher. Barely ahold of the better part of his survival instinct, Gideon fumbled numbly in one of his many pockets until he found the charm he'd been looking for, all the while feeling the blood, the life draining from him - blood, life, magic... no. No magic in this blood. But something else, soon.

The charm was a poison ring - and it wasn't really a charm either - the contents of which were the important bit. Twitching his fingers the barest amount - which was about all he could do at this point... - the rat pricked himself with the poison ring, injecting hte potion which, if it had been prepared correctly (oh stars he hoped it had) would immediately change his blood into the most bitter of poisons, a deadly treat for predators.

Eclipse was not like other preditors, he might be a vampire but not one of which you would call 'normal' in any sense, the demon that resided inside the vessel was crafted by the hands of the devil himself including vessel itself of which the devil also crafted. The only way the fox can die is if the pack leaders or the demon wishes it to themselves, other then that there was nothing that could stop Eclipse while he was on this earth.

Eclipse wasnt afraid of anything that was bad tasting, he had drunken animals blood before and believe me, he found that worse then what he did this stuff that was now inside the rats body. However he pulled out after a couple of tastes of the stuff the rat injected into him as he was almost full already due to the blood he had been drinking all night.

He didnt need much more blood but what he did get, even the bad tasting of the 'new' blood was enough to satisfy his needs and new he would be able to rest easy tonight as he was nice and full. However he gleared at the rat "you think whatever you put inside of you would kill me? I cant die, not by any other means except for two and your was wasnt one of them, so sorry to disapoint."

Eclipse said calmly as he walked over to the old fashioned fire place and looked into it, not wishing to look at the rat right now.

One... two... three... breathing harshly, Gideon resisted the almost overpowering urge to curl up and --not die-- hide in plain sight. The worst was over, right? He wasn't the hardiest of creatures, but he did have to survive the road, so that he felt so weak now... couldn't be a good sign. His eyes followed the fox with a fear that was slowly melting into mere apprehension - the moment of true danger was past - if worst came to worst...

"It didn't work?" he protested, voice tight with incredulity. Then why by the sky had Eclipse stopped? Probably had a mountain of corpses under the house, is why. Feeding on death. Good stars... how had he misunderstood that supernatural scent? Vampire.

"No, it didnt work because im not like normal vampires, im not a creation of another vampire, I am created differently and there are only two ways I can die. "I stopped drinking from you because I have had my fill, as you found out I am a vampire and yes I drink blood however if you were smart you would also realise that what I had been drinking all night was blood, not wine.

I however still get full, like a mortal, I stopped because I had my fill of food like anyone else would have if they had just eaten a meal. however with this said I would like to offer you a room to stay in till you have regained your strength, I understand if you dont want to and apologising to you wont make up for what I did.

You are free to leave when you wish, I will drive you back to the store myself and drop you off, I just wish for you to rest that is all, regain your strength as you will be weak for a few days at least. I know it seems strange to be acting like I am now but you are no longer in danger, I have had what I have wanted and so I am now back to my normal self."

He said to the other in a calm fashion as he sighed, sticking another log of wood onto the fire.

Gideon's mouth was shut tightly throughout the explanation, he himself intent on every word. He didn't like vampires. Not because of the usual 'abomination against life' sorta thing, just that... well... they freaked him out. So did a bunch of other things in the world, and he didn't really like them either. What he didn't like even more about this particular vampire was that he was nigh on apologizing, which was just downright terrifying.

"What?" he asked, pathetically bereft of anything remotely witty. "You don't... care if I go? Isn't that sort of... deadly? What if I tell somebody that you..." he trailed off again, "You know."

Besides, if he was leaving this place, it was going to be on his own terms.

"I am not going to keep you here if you dont wish to, granted I will keep one person here beyond their will but that isnt any of your concern, whoever is invited to my house leaves when they wish. I am not one who will keep people here agiesnt their will so you are, of course, free to go" he said to the other as he threw in a peice of screwed up paper into the fire.

"And as I said, I can only two two ways and two ways only so a stake through the heart, going out in sunlight or any other 'normal' vampire way of dying isnt going to kill me. You may tell though something tells me there are other vampires around this place so I am not the only one here who is a vampire. I feel that noone will care that much that another is amongst them when there are already others around them that are vampires also.

"You may tell whom you wish, I dont mind, my secret would of been out sooner or later anyway so if you wish to tell others of my being a vampire then so be it, I will not stop you." He said to the other, getting up and walking to the table, sitting down in his seat and toyed with his glass once more, still not able to look at the rat.

A maid came in moments later and wrapped a blanket around the rats shoulders, she knew what must have happened moments before as she would have been told by the ghost that had told Eclipse what he knew. "Sir, if you wish, there is a room waiting for you on the second floor, first door on your right if you wish to use that for as long as you want however the master will no longer drink from you if you do intend to stay here.

You are safe from here on out" she said softly and sweetly, making sure the rat was warm and didnt care what had been going on as this now was just second nature to her.

See, he just couldn't figure this guy, which was really, really disturbing. It wasn't like he coudl read everyone he met like an open book, but... but there were just way too many missing parts of this equation. Like... like that he was keeping one person - or would? - against their will, and that just didn't gel for Gideon and that he was a 'weird' vampire.

And Eclipse did have a point. There were plenty of vamps around this part of town - or Gaia - and one more didn't really seem to make a difference. At least the vampires here weren't so territorial as elsewhere. Eezh.

Gideon started in surprise though didn't go very far when the maid put the blanket on his shoulders - she was sweet, there was genuine warmth radiating from her - both literally and metaphorically. He hoped that wasn't another misjudgement like his previous one of Eclipse... "Thank you..." he mumbled, pulling the blanket closer against the shuddering cold he felt within and without, a distinct contrast to the servant's warmth.

But regardless of however nice the servants here could be... "You bit me, Eclipse - anything you do is my concern now. Who's being kept?" he said, voice harsh if still weak. And okay... so he wasn't any real enforcement or anything, but Gideon did do his best to keep on top of things supernaturally. If Eclipse was up to something... dangerous, as was typical of vampires (thought it was becoming more and more apparent Eclipse was anything but a normal vampire) it would be best to figure him out. Even if that meant not leaving immediately.
