Kayne glared back at Jess, then immediately tucked into the stew. Sighing happily he gave Cirrus a huge smile and continued to shovel food into his mouth.

"God, Cirrus... why can't you cook like this more often?" he teased, between a mouthful of stew.

At Jess' compliment, Cirrus blushed a bit. She had never believed she was a very good cook. Especially after her mother had thrown a hot pot of broth at her and it had left the scar that trailed down the right side of her back because she had burned it on accident.

But at her brother's comment, she calmly scooped some of her stew into her spoon and blew on it. Then she looked up at him with a mischievious grin.

"Shut up Kayne," she said softly, then bent the spoon back and flipped the spoonful of stew at his face.

Kayne's jaw dropped as the warm stew smacked him in the face. "Oh no you didn't," he said, scooping up his own spoonful of stew.

Jess's jaw fell open as the stew whacked Kayne in the face. She couldn't believe it, Cirrus who had a moment ago seemed so sensible, starting a full scale food fight.
"Woah guys, woah." She said as Kayne scooped up his own spoonfull of stew and flung it at Cirrus. "That's a bad way to waste good fo..." She was cut off mid sentence as she took Cirrus' retaliation spoonful in the chest. The top she was wearing was by no means low cut but she could feel a rogue carrot sliding down her cleavage. It was quite unpleasant.

"That, was sooo uncalled for. Don't start a flinging fight with a good aim." She said in mock anger, taking a bit of her own good tasting stew and reluctantly flinging it back towards Cirrus.

Cirrus gasped through the stew trailing down her face when she unexpectedly hit Jess with her last spoonful. She immediately slapped a hand over her mouth and exchanged a look with her brother.

"Oh Jess! I'm so..." she started then was immediately slapped in the face with a bit of carrot and potato. Licking her lips, a wicked grin covered her face.

Kayne just about died laughing, literally, when Sensei retaliated. Unfortunately, the laughter spurred a wicked coughing fit and he dropped his spoon down into his stew as he gasped for air.

Cirrus's grin faded as her brother began to cough mercilessly. Immediately the childlike mischief that had been in her eyes, disappeared and she bolted up to her feet. She quickly walked around the table to sit next to him and rub his back.

"I'm sorry Kayne!" she exclaimed, extremely upset.

Jess watched the twins with interest and understood more than even why they were who they were and why they both acted the way they did. It was nice, she hadn't seen her own brother and sister for years, her brother never wrote and she only kept in touch with her sister through sporadic e-mails.

She immedietly felt guilty again as Kayne dropped into a hideous coughing fit. Her head started pounding, this was all her fault. Sighing she let Cirrus deal with it. She had already caused enough trouble, putting her hand on his leg to help herself up she went to get him another glass of water.
She only made it half way to the kitchen before her own difficult breathing got the better of her. She knew she shouldn't have pushed the training that morning. Up since four running and practicing kicks. The world began to spin a bit and she braced herself against the door way. Not that it did much good. Before she could step into the kitchen the world went black.

Kayne's coughing eased enough so he could catch his breath as Jess got up from the couch. Swallowing hard, he gasped for air and stopped the coughing in time to hear a dull thud and a glass shattering. Turning he saw Jess slumped over on the kitchen floor. Immediately he was on his feet and ran over to her side to kneel down. He gently picked her head up and placed it in his lap. Then looked up at Cirrus with genuine fear in his eyes.

"We killed her Cirrie," he said, a bit unhinged by her so suddenly collapsing to the floor.

Cirrus sighed in relief when Kayne managed to control his coughing and continued to rub his back soothingly when she too heard Jess fall to the ground. Kayne got to her first, but Cirrus was right on his heels. At his worried statement, she glared at him for saying something so stupid, but didn't admonish him as she could see his worry was pure.

"Don't be silly," she said softly, placing a hand on Jess' forehead. "Jess... wake up," she said firmly.

Kayne looked from his sister, then back down to Jess, brushin some of her hair out of her face.

Hearing their words Jess came to quickly, her head felt like it was going to explode and her chest felt tighter than ******** that hurts." She winced, trying to sit up but failing and laying her head back down. "And Shaidey, you don't get rid of me that easily." She said giving a pained smirk and trying to sit up again.

Taking a couple of wheezing breaths she managed to sit up, resting her back against the door frame. "Sorry guys." She said sniffing. I shouldn't have done so much training this morning.

At those words, the look that crossed Cirrus's face would have put any mother to shame. She got up to her feet and agitatedly went to get the broom and dust pan to clean up the glass that had been broken.

Kayne saw the look on Cirrus's face and gave Jess an 'oh s**t, now you've done it' look. He had learned at an early age, that if you didn't take the time to heal yourself properly in Cirrus's presence, she got a little touchy, if not outright angry. It was a pet peeve of hers that he had tested many times in the past. He rose to his feet and held out a hand to Jess to help her to her feet.

Cirrus quickly cleaned up the floor and dumped the glass in the trash bin, then returned to stand over Jess menacingly with her hands over her hips.

"You shouldn't have done any training today with your chest sounding like that. What the bloody hell were you thinking?" she demanded.

At the look Cirrus gave her Jess was afraid, very afraid. She no longer felt like an adult but like a kid who had been caught stealing buiscits from the buiscuit tin.

She gave Kayne a wide eyed look and slowly eased herself up. Bracing herself against his shoulder as she felt dizzy again. At Cirrus' words she looked down on the floor, marginally shocked that before quiet Cirrus had spoken to her in such a way.

"I can't help it." she began. "It's like some obessive thing I have. I know I shouldn't but I have to, I can't stop myself. It's like, if I miss one day I'll put on weight, or lose muscle or something. I'm sorry." She said hoping Cirrus wouldn't shout again.

Cirrus took a deep breath and calmed down. Jess was her teacher, not her brother. She had no right to boss her around. But she was highly amused by the position of power she had suddenly found herself in. She looked between the two, both of them swaying and leaning against each other for support and gave her head a small shake of exasperation.

"Tis a good thing I'm so blond. The grey hairs you're both giving me won't show up," she said, her accent thickening as she tried not to laugh. They really were a pathetic sight. Her face softened as she looked Jess over to make sure she was alright. She hadn't meant to yell at her. She just couldn't understand why she would want to do something so silly and for such silly reasons.

"Now if you go grab your bowls, I'll fill them back up," she said, turning to the stew still simmering on the stove.

Kayne relaxed when Cirrus lightened up. He was definitely not in the mood to be yelled at some more for running around in the rain, which was where that conversation more than likely would have headed if Cirrus had stayed on her warpath. Having slipped his arm around Jess' waist to keep her steady, he looked down at her with a grin and gestured with his chin to go back into the living room and do as Cirrus had instructed. Once over by the sofa he checked to see if Cirrus was distracted and leaned in close to Jess.

"You're lucky. She usually goes on for hours like that when I do something stupid," he grinned, whispering softly.

Jess gave a weak smile as she was guided back to the sofa. Cirrus' words and tones made her feel so sad. A girl her age shouldn't be able to pull such a good mother act and mean it.

"I'm used to it." Jess shrugged frowing a little. "People don't understand how it's wedged into my psyche. I've been doing the same routine since I was thirteen, every day, 365 days a year for eleven years. It's hard to shake. Like if I miss out on one day I'll gain five dress sizes and my muscle will turn to jelly. It's ******** up."

Recovering from her reverie she returned his smirk.
"Ahh, we'll let her think she's won this round. She is cooking for us afterall."

Kayne looked down at Jess as if she were crazy. He enjoyed exercising, but he never felt so compelled to do it because of dumb reasons like that. He felt bad for her. He knew that she understood that the body didn't work that way, but that was obviously how she truly felt. At her last words, Kayne grinned.

"Aye... It's usually easier that way in the long run anyways," he agreed, picking up both his and Cirrus' bowls.

"See, you can be sensitive to people's emotions." She said giving him a playful nudge. "Now maybe just apply the rules you do to your sister to other people."

Jess looked at her watch and gave a frown. She really should be sorting out club stuff, but it would be rude to turn down Cirrus' hospitality. Not to mention the lecture she would get if she insisted on going to the dojo.

Picking her phone up out of her bag she called Kusani and told him to place a cancelled notice on the dojo.
"Heh, I'm actually quite glad I get an evening off." She smiled. "A potential three hours of Kusani's moping around would have me shaking him by the shoulders and screaming at him to snap out of it." She smirked and looked up to see if Cirrus needed any help.

"Of course I can be sensitive to other people's emotions. It's whether I give rat's arse about them that matters or not," he grinned. As Sensei called Kusani, Kayne returned to the kitchen and set the two bowls down on the counter and slipped an arm around Cirrus's shoulders to watch her stir the stew. When Jess made the comment about Ra, Kayne couldn't help but laugh.

"Aye. So true Sensei," he nodded. "I really should go see him soon. I feel real bad about what happened with his girlfriend. Though if you ask me I think she's got a few loose screws. But Kusani looked pretty bummed about the whole thing," he said absently, reaching down to stick his finger in the stew, but getting slapped with the spoon by Cirrus.

Cirrus looked up at Kayne when he slipped his arm around her and smiled. As much as he drove her insane, he still made her feel incredibly safe and loved. So did Kade for that matter, she though, blushing a bit and smiling softly at the rememberance of their first kiss. She joined Kayne's laughter at Jess' teasing and gave her head a small shake. Quickly she ladled more stew into each bowl and turned off the stove. She pulled out from under Kayne's arm and gave him a look as he spoke about Ra. She had heard this before, but it still made her frown. She couldn't believe that he had wrapped Ra up in another big mess. Sighing, she shoved him in the direction of the living room and picked up their two bowls. She gave Jess a warm smile and nudged her into the living room as well.

Jess closed her eyes in exasperation as she sat back down at the table.
"What the hell did you do this time?" She asked giving him a weary look. Secretly she was pleased to have been invited to stay. If not she would only be up in her room convincing herself she was perfectly well enough to go out for a run.

"And before you speak you might want to remember that people's actions do not always reflect their true personality." She said giving him a 'you of all people should know that' look.

Kayne studied Jess for a moment and rolled his eyes at her look. "It's just as I told you at our first martial arts training," he shrugged. "I ran into Ra and his girlfriend at the cherry blossom festival and when she found out who I was, she wasn't exactly pleased. She got pretty upset with Ra for burying the hatchet with me and started in on him. Honestly, I didn't mean to start anything. I think there was something there already. I just feel bad for being the one to get the ball rolling so to speak," Kayne said, blowing off the steam from his stew. "Either way, I don't want things to sour between Kusani and me, so I feel I should apologize," he shrugged and dug in.

Cirrus nodded in agreement with Jess as she reclaimed her position on the floor. She ate silently as her brother explained the situation to Jess, giving her head a shake at his rashness. When he finished she smiled up at Jess as she lifted her spoon and stopped mid way between the bowl and her lips.

"I suppose I ought to thank you for this," she grinned gesturing to Kayne with her spoon. "He's never been one to apologize very often." She winked at Jess and continued to eat.
