It seemed the leopard boy wasn't going to try, and the others were satisfied with one guess. So be it. Raven turned to the board, and wrote a word underneath will. "Imagination is the second necessary element of magic, and a reason that children often excel at it at first. In order to change something, one must imagine it change, to the point that they can see it in their mind's eye. Unlike general aptitude, imagination can be developed, so it is unusual that someone would fail at this."
Under imagination she wrote a final word. "Procedure. In any spell, there is a procedure one must follow. This can take the form of an incantation, a series of movements, or a more complex ritual. Either way, there are steps, much like a recipe when cooking, and to stray from the directions would result in an unsuccessful spell. At best, the spell would simply fail. At worst... you could get more than you bargain for. That isn't to say that new spells aren't being invented, but they still each have procedures.
"Your homework is to choose something you would want to cast a spell for, and describe how each necessary element of casting that spell might work. Also, write which element you believe would be best at, and why. Class dismissed."
[I know it's abrupt, but this has gone on for a while. XD; I apologize. If any students have questions they can come up and ask Raven, otherwise they're free to go.]
