"Well... He takes care of her." The way her voice went up slightly at the end clearly indicated that she was hoping this fact equated with affection. "And he is very kind to me. He's clever and with the Fleet and works hard."

"Hmmmm." Hadrian said, tapping a book spine as he considered. "He sounds very nice. But I don't know if he sounds like the poem writing sort..."

"Who does?" Galatea tilted her head, studying Hadrian as if she were a curious bird. "Have you ever written poetry?" she asked. "For a woman?"

He blinked, "Well...no. But I might someday." Upon saying which he blushed a little, "I mean...well I've never tried it...but I wrote silly little poems when I was a kid sometimes and...you know I might be the sort of person who would write poetry for a woman."

For some reason, Galatea could not resist smiling at his admission. Her cheeks pinked out of confusion and she quickly knotted her hands in front of her to keep from fidgeting. "I can believe that. You are gentle and clever like the men in the book. I'm sure you would even bring flowers, too."

"Oh flowers are much more likely!" He said immidiately, without thinking. Then caught himself and blinked, adding helpfully, "I like flowers..."

"What kind of flowers do you like?" she immediately asked. She did not know much about floriculture - the Captain was not much interested in purely ornamental plants - but it felt nice to know more about her friend's tastes.

"Oh...all kinds. Violets and these little tiny ones called 'johnny-jump-ups' are my favorites. And buttercups." He smiled at the thought of flowers, "What kinds do you like?" And the question reminded him of what they had come over to the bookshelf for. "And does the Captain like flowers?"

Sadly, Galatea shook her head, slipping back into their original purpose easily. "She never has any in the house," she replied. "I believe she thinks they are... Pointless? She likes kitchen gardens better than flower gardens and has a little window box of herbs." She smiled lopsidedly. "I pick them for her when she is cooking."
Then the dark-haired feien turned to stare pensively at the books again. "She should have a proper garden but I'm too little to start one for her," she said, softly as if speaking to herself. "Do you think I could make her something to encourage her to start a garden? Is there such a thing?"

Hadrian thought the box of herbs was encouraging. If she had one little garden, then maybe Galatea's Captain would like a bigger garden that would keep her more occupied and interested. His bond certainly seemed occupied and interested by her garden. So he considered what you might give someone to encourage them to start a garden carefully. "Seeds!" He said, after a moment, with the sort of bright enthusiasm he always seemed to show when he came upon an idea he liked. "We could get her all sorts of vegetable seeds." And after a moment of further thought, he decided "And a book about growing vegetables."

"Wonderful!" Galatea's smile almost glowed. "And seeds are small so I can lift and carry them easily. There must be hundreds of types of seeds in the world."

He nodded in agreement, his smile growing as her's did. "There are whole mail order catalogues JUST For vegetable seeds!"
Besides, this was something Hadrian actually knew something about!

"Ah....I don't know." Hadrian made a little thinking face while he tried to decide if he knew any 'medicinal' plants. "Maybe? With herds for cooking, you know?"

Galatea nodded. Absently, she reached up to push at her bangs as she thought. "Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme." She paused. "That's actually part of a song, you know," she added sheepishly. "I heard it when we lived with the Fleet." Pushing away from the book she leaned on, she reached out and hesitantly took Hadrian's hand. "Will you help me find seeds for the Captain?" she asked. "I would be very grateful."
