Shiaree
"Yeah...but you can have fun, too, you know. You're smart enough that I don't think you need to study 'smuch as you think you do."

She paused a second, gently picking up the little mouse burying itself in her robes and brushing her nose gently against his,
"But I know whatcha mean about everybody seeming to be grown up. All the people who usedta be our age are older than us now. That doesn't mean we gotta grow up too, though. Not 'till we're ready."

She set the mouse back down,
"So you should play a bit too. Climbing trees is fun, though I can't do it much 'cause if I fall I'll prolly break something. But just playing in the grass can be fun too, or even reading a book or playing with your mouse-friends."

He pondered this a moment. Was he spending too much time worrying about studying and such when he should be enjoying his childhood? He could imagine his Kithain agreeing with Muris, but what would he do? He had always been the follower, the one who grudgingly got "dragged" into problematic situations and trouble, trying to talk sense into others. It was almost a new thought to him to put time aside to play with mice or roll in grass....

"I never really was the type to 'play' by myself, Muris. I usually was accompanying the king and found myself trying to get out of trouble or keep him from getting himself in it. I never chased after trolls.. I simply tried to keep him from getting killed by one."

Shiaree
Muris had to giggle at the mental image of Aesculus dragging a young Cervus away from an angry troll, but her little face grew quite serious a moment later,
"Well, you could come play with me. I mean, if you want to. I'm used to playing by myself sometimes, but it's always fun to have someone to play with."

Shiaree had mentioned as much yesterday when she'd been rolling around in the grass. The elf hadn't tried to join in herself, though she had assured the girl that she would if she could. But there were reasons that Muris didn't feel like prying into that "Sissy" didn't seem to want to play in the grass.

"Although maybe rolling around in the grass isn't such a good idea. I get all itchy and my skin starts turning red 'cause it's really sensitive. But we could go play by the lake or toss a ball or even count leaves."

Counting leaves was a lot of fun, even if she couldn't count -really- high yet. But papa'd always been there to count the numbers she didn't know...she guessed that's why she hadn't tried it on her own just yet. Maybe Aesculus would know them and could help her count!

Seeing that she was as stubborn as Cervus could be at times, he decided that it was best to concede and indeed agree to play with her some time later. Much as he still thought perhaps he ought to spend time preparing himself for his future position, he imagined his Kithain and Cervus would both want him to try to enjoy himself every once in a while.

"Very well. I can see you are as obstinate as the king was on this matter. I will come to the stables one of these days and perhaps we can play. Maybe you can introduce me to the horses? I have not yet ventured out to meet them."

Shiaree
She shook her head,
"Well, you don't have to if you really don't want to...I just thought it might be a good idea."

Muris fiddled a bit with the horseshoe around her neck again, and then brightened at his mention of the horses,
"Sure I'll introduce you to the horses! I'll bet you'll just love 'em! We've got a few mice in the stables too, though I haven't found very many yet.."

Role-playing log from Page 164 to 165 from Silva Regia main thread.

Synopsis: Aesculus and a stalking Rosa happen upon Lilium. When he greets her the tiny mouse friend of his pops out from his robes and he offers the two ladies to pet it. While Lilium does, Rosa is disgusted and accuses him of being "the greatest evil." Aesculus confronts her about it in front of the queen, who seems skeptical to say the least, and leaves amid their debate. Aesculus promptly takes the time to excuse himself as well.

Reflection on RP from Page 2 to 3 from Cervus' Diary thread.

I went to see Cervus quite a few days ago and I must admit the meeting did not go as well as I would have liked. He seemed troubled at first, but seemed more calm and relaxed when he greeted me. It is silly for me to try to hide anything from my most dear friend, this I know. Cervus was quick to grasp onto the fact that I was upset over some matter.

It was foolish of me, perhaps, to mistake his joy at seeing me for a spell for him being relaxed enough for serious matters. While I realize our king must be strong and know all there is to know about his people, I do not wish to overburden him with more trivial matters.

By now you know of what subject I speak- Rosa. After she accused me openly in front of Alces, Ursa, and Lilium, and then I accidently blurted it to a Filix who I had assumed she had informed, I thought that the king should know. After all, I do not want someone's silly delusions to influence what others think of me, especially the young and impressionably youths released from the curse that do not have the wisdom to know Rosa's delusions are merely that.

I ramble. Cervus became enraged, pacing about and spurting on about what a terrible, trecherous thing she had done. While I surely agree in some respects, I can not help but feel badly I am bringing this upon such an ignorant woman, even if she deserves it. Were my Kithain here reading this, she would surely call me a "kind heart" as she usually does with a knowing smile.

My Kithain is still missing, but my brother assures me she is still alive, for his life is tied to hers and he would surely know if she were to be suddenly mortally wounded and pass away. I trust in him for now, for this is all the comfort I have. Despite our investigations, we have not found anything indicating what has happened to her on the worn paths between Tir Na Nog and her home. Onuris has also assured me that she is stronger than I even know, and that she has been through much worse. It would be indeed ironic if she were conquered by a forest.

I have heard a new Fey will be released soon, although nothing has been confirmed as yet. Perhaps I will see more if I chose to leave my quarters, but I am reluctant. My foster brother has leant me books on various topics dealing with history, something called a computer, art, and animals. He was even kind enough to have them magically minimized by a wizard for my use.

Yours,
Aesculus

Role-playing log from Page 1 to 2 from Great Hall Guild Forum Thread.

In short, Aesculus comes across Cervus in the great hall looking at tapestries. As Cervus comes around to asking Aesculus how he is doing, he is seized by pain and falls to a knee, straining to keep composure. After being enveloped in blue light, Aesculus emerges from this strange cocoon as a man that even Johnny Depp would envy... even if he doesn't seem to think so. whee

Role-playing log from Page 5 to 7 from The Gardens Guild Forum Thread.

Aesculus, too immersed into his book to notice, stumbles into the gardens right after Alces has grown in a young man. Muris is upset that now all her friends are older, and Rosa and Aesculus rush to comfort her. Before Rosa can say anything to Aesculus, Cervus arrives to notice his grown cousin, and Rosa puts on a rather silly show of being happy and actually liking Aesculus. To comfort her, Aesculus carries Muris piggy-back so she is taller than everyone, even if Rosa keeps warning him not to drop her. Unfortunately, Aesculus has to rush off to see his family.

As the day unfolds and the season of winter grows nearer, many things have changed. I feel most terrible about neglecting my journal, for it is something I am sure I will value later in life to remember how it was to be young.

The single most important occurance concerns my Kithain. It seems that she has returned after a few weeks not too much worse for the wear. I had almost silently begun to fear we may not see her for a very, very long time. She had quite a story to tell, but it mostly involves her mistaking her water flask for the one she had hidden some rum in and a blow to the head when she stumbled and fell. In an almost comical turn of events she ended up at a Fa'e Guardian's house (Wotcher's) where she shed her clothes to get into some clean ones. Unfortunately, my Kithain ended up porting (an ability of hers not under control yet) outside, and ended up wandering a few days until she came across an elven family's house. There she was a victim of the moment with an elf by the name of Throwyn who does not look older than Onuris.

When my Kithain did, in fact, return home, she collapsed on the sofa. Onuris roused her and was getting her food when Throwyn, the man whom she had spent a night with, showed up concerned. When Onuris was in the kitchen fetching food, a lady from another "plane of existance" as she calls it, portaled into the room, informed my Kithain and Throwyn they would bear child and she was here to aid, and promptly went to the guest room. This did not go over well with Onuris, and with Miss Syrenrei inviting the father of her future child to stay, the house is quite lively.

I am happy to be away from the drama that unfolds at my other home, no matter how entertaining and educational it can be at times. While I have never contemplated the innate complexities of even a family not bound by blood (as ours is, for Miss Syrenrei is such a distant descendant), I have seen them in a new light recently. When I do visit my other home, Ifind that there are variables in relationships that are cultural: for instance, while many Fey and Fa'e don't seem to focus on age since both species age so quickly, when we look at our caretakers, we often hold them to a higher standard and ages do matter.

I shall explore these ideas further sometime.

I am afraid that my neglect of my journal is a reflection of how poorly I have neglected my health. I have recently undergone the transition from child to teen, and the strain this has put on my body has only been multiplied by how much time I spend trying to teach myself history, this intresting idea of the humans called science, anatomy, different languages- I want to learn as much as I can before I become advisor so that once in the role I can focus on the king and kingdom firstly, and study on subjects I will advise on little.

With my Kithain having been missing, I am afraid I lost my beacon of stability, and now as I lay in bed restlessly, I realize I must learn how to temper myself in such a way that it is more condusive to my work.

Sincerely,
Aesculus

I haven't been able to go out at all, for I feel uncomfortably weak and my Kithain has been keeping a close eye on me. For the past few days I had been reading a delightful tome on psychology, hoping to get an insight to the psyche so I might be better able to counsel others, especially when they are in distress. Last night when my Kithain came to check on me, she nearly flew across the room with a howl, and yanked the large book from my pale hands. As I stared at her, slightly aghast at her seemingly rash behavior, she told me that I am not to be studying as it will only exhaust me more. I fear there might have been an inkling of truth in the statement, as the mind can reflect on the body if I care for it poorly.

My caring Kithain then told me quite simply that she understood being laid up in bed was quite "boring" and she'd find me something more suitable to read. Imagine my surprise, hoping for some lovely insightful nugget to arrive on my lap when she plopped a child-sized yellow book on my lap entitled "Sleeping Beauty." The pages are filled with chariactures and bright colors.

Unfortunately this was the only light reading she will permit, and made me swear on my title as "Aide" not to read anything more lengthy or difficult than what she placed on my lap or else she would go tell the king how I had made myself ill. Needless to say, the last thing I want to do is troubling my dearest friend with my own oversight and recently health. In her wake, she left me with about a dozen of these fantasy stories. I most certainly have learned my lesson... if not from being unable to tend to myself, from my small and rather simple reading selection.

Sincerely,
Aesculus

Roleplay Session Begin

Characters: Aesculus, Rosa, Pappila (hopefully)

Summary: A quite sickly Aesculus is visited by the most unusual of people.

Aesculus was laying in his bed, propped up on pillows. The skinny, yellowed fairytale books were strewn across his rumpled bed, and the mice seem to have taken to climbing across them, burying underneath them and into the sheets, and generally treating them like their private theme park. Currently Aes was boredly reading Snow White for lack of a better thing to do. After all, there isn't much to do when you can't go anywhere.

"Painfull.." She hissed to herself, coming down this paticular corridor. She stopped herself from dragging herself or stomping, and came along as quickly as she could manage. She hesitated, but eventually brought her hand to the door and let out a slight knock.
"Ae.."
Breath.
"Aesculus?"
She asked quietly, trying to keep herself from growling - and managed to sound rather cheerfull and kind. For once.

"Come in," his voice is hoarse, cracking, and weak as he answers, a strong indication of how he's feeling. Needless to say, he isn't exactly thrilled to have Rosa visiting him, but he believes in second chances. Besides, if Rosa honestly needs help from him, sickly or not, he ought to help her.

As she opens the door, she finds a sparse room. There is a table and desk made of rich wood, with papers, quill, ink well, and journal neatly placed on it. To its right is a large bookshelf with neatly shelfed books. Besides this, there is only a trunk at the end of his bed and curtains to fill the large room. Besides the lavish black and golds of the fabrics and the few pieces of furniture, the room is empty, although clean.

Ah yes, and a strange couple plates sit in the corner near a tiny hole in the wall... one saucer filled with water, and the other with fresh pieces of fruit and cheese on it.

The door came open with Rosa standing in the frame, grinning ear to ear. Oddly, though, her face didnt seem to move- it almost seemed stuck that way. "Hello Aesculus." She said through her teeth - literally. "Don't you feel well?" She asked, her cheeks finnaly relaxing as her eyes glided over the room. "That's.. too bad. I .. brought you something!" She declared.

Yes, well, she had brought him something. What.. had she brought him?

"I.. thought about you!" AND IT WAS PAINFUL!
Truth be told she had no idea what she 'got him.' She sent Ahnna out to gather a 'present' for him. A suck up present, in lamens terms... but it was only just dawning on her that Ahnna had no taste.. At all.

She brought out a box from behind her back, examining it herself. "Perhaps that was.. a bad idea. I should go." She said quickly, stumbling a step backwards. Her stumbling.. quite rare and odd in itself, considering the woman was more then capable of keeping her balance and perfect posture in most.. well, in basicly any situation if she put her mind to it.
