Well, in an interview with the director, the reason they "revived" Andy Waltfeld was that there were no more cool adults. Maybe that's what he thought about Destiny.

Of course, he also admitted after the fact that a beam-coated shield shouldn't be able to block a positron cannon...
Reviving 'cool' characters doesn't give you ther right to bend the rules of life and death. If you're head gets blown off, you die. It's not humanly possible to just survive with a scarred face like Mu did. Kinda shows the elitists who pick on Wing for lack of realism that even SEED has its share of flaws...

Curious question.
Can we extend this to the SEED and SEED Destiny MSes, MAs and Gundams of those series?

I wouldn't mind being able to discuss mechs from any other Gundam series, though I'm not sure whether or not we should make a new forum for that. Still, you can at least use this to make comparisons to Wing MS I'd guess.

Yeah I suppose it's an idea maybe later should propose the idea for a mech subsection or stuff, since the guild has spare gold in it anyway sweatdrop

Here's something fun; a recently released expansion to Bandai's Gundam Collection series of mini-figures includes the EW versions of the original five Gundams. Give a look:

Those are cool Zero's Wings are a slight blend of EW and his rifle isn't exactally the same.

Ah, just looking at the Katoki redesigns is enough to make me one happy camper.

Actually, that's the XXXG-01W Wing Gundam. wink

......Wing Gundam WASN'T in Endless Waltz.

Look closely at the torso the wings and design it's Wing Zero, not Wing Gundam.
Wing Gundam was severly damaged near the end of AC 195.

You're confused, I see. Take a look at the model number of the Gundam in question: "XXXG-01W." That's the Wing Gundam.

No, it's not an error on the part of Bandai.

If you'll remember correctly, Katoki's designs for Endless Waltz aren't actually meant to be "custom" machines, nor updates to the Gundams made between the series and Endless Waltz (as some of the non-canon manga would have us believe). Rather, the Endless Waltz designs were supposed to be the exact same Gundams as the ones we see in the series itself. They're simply alternate renderings of existing designs, if that makes sense: they were retconned.

Katoki then went back and redesigned the five Gundams from the television series so that they would jive with his designs from Endless Waltz.

The new line of figurines is based on those Katoki redesigns.

Here is another image of Katoki's redesign of the Wing Gundam:

Well damn that re-design has a strong bearing resemblance to Wing Zero then.

And as for EW Bandai still counts them as official but eh I liked the TV designs more anyway.

I prefer the EW versions, myself. IMO, they feel more stylish and unique and make the show feel distinct from others like UC Gundam. And as for the complaints about wings and such: just repeat to yourself, "it's just a show, I should really just relax".

Perhaps.
Besides the UC comment isn't a bad one in that sense that some fans think of the Gundams and other MSes in that sense.
Still dislike EW designs their arnaments seem to be downgraded in some cases.

Wing Zero: looses transformation ability and thus the Wing Vulcans from Neo Bird Mode.

Deathscythe Hell: Looses the Buster Shield it once had as well as the new cloack not fully covering the body unlike the origional DH.

Altron: It lost it's flamethrowers.

Sandrock: Lost the heat seeking shoulder mounted missles along with the beam machine gun.

So there were reasons I disliked most of them and the redesigns for those 4 still seem weird, considering they also rewrote part of the show history also.
Bandai and Sunrise can do it as much as they want but they can't ignore the other designs either. ninja burning_eyes
Tallgeese 3 was different though.
And Heavyarms was practically the same just a different colour scheme and double up on arnaments.

Armaments-wise, only Heavyarms has an improvement, as Robin said. Meanwhile, the aesthetics are improved in general in EW, as stated by Void. Personally, I prefer to make stuff look cool after you make it better at blowing stuff up (I always liked the Buster Shield on Deathscythe). Is it official that Altron lost those awesome flamethrowers, or did Wufei simply not use them? He obviously lost the equally awesome back-mounted beam cannons, so it seems that Altron had the biggest loss in armaments, with the only improvement being the extended range and flexibility of the arms.
