A Peek Into Theif's Workplace

Theif came breathless into the little building just outside town. A beefy looking man at the door stared at him, then said shortly, "Haven't seen you for a while." Theif only nodded.

"I haven't been around in while..." the convorsation would have been more lengthy, but Theif was almost literally scared out of his skin by the sound of someone screaming his birthname loudly. He ducked his head down, flattened his ears and looked at the floor. And then, he went to see his boss.

Und Ze Funtime Saga Continues
{or, part the second of Kiki's first playdate
view original here}

Soco and Kilayla made their way across the fields to the mansion, and went around through the garden to the backdoor. It wasn't used very often, as most of the Kanthians and Karletians stayed inside out of the summer heat.

The weather wasn't too oppressive today, which helped make the walk enjoyable. Soco cast a glance at the outdoor pool and the glass enclosure that housed the indoor pool, and he wondered if the girl beside him would enjoy swimming.

He unlocked the door and led Kiki inside. The backdoor led to the kitchen, where Hana was busy chopping away at vegetables.

"Hello, we're home," Soco said in greeting.

As they had made their way near the house, Kiki'd been looking around. It was big. She found herself wondering vaguely why Soco had such a big bathtub in his house, then decided that it was because he wasn't poor, like Theif.

Kiki smiled up at Soco as they came through the door, and was about to comment on this, but he was saying hello to someone. Kiki looked back ahead of her, and saw a giant kitty, chopping vegetables. Not a kitty like Theif was a kitty. This kitty was all over in fur, and stripey, like a tiger. Maybe she was just a really big tiger.

Kiki stared, and wondered if she should be worried.

"Are you a tiger!?" she blurted after a second.

Hana hadn't looked up when Soco announced his presence. She did slowly turn around, however, when Kiki asked her question. The tiger narrowed her eyes as she stared down at the little girl.

Soco, looking both a little embarassed and a little amused, mouthed the words, Be nice.

"Yes," Hana finally answered. "Don't bother me, or I'll eat you for supper." She turned around and went back to her chopping, the knife blade flashing as she worked.

Kiki's eyes went wide. Simultaniously, her mouth popped open. She clutched Soco's shirt again, and moved so that she was standing behind him. She peeked out warily from behind him. "Let's ...go," Kilayla said in a hushed voice.

Soco chuckled very, very softly as he led Kiki out of the kitchen and into the entrance hall. "Don't mind her," he said, giving the girl a pat on the shoulder. "She's a little odd, but she won't eat you. Karlet and I wouldn't let her, anyway."

The library was down the hall from the main entrance and the kitchen, so Soco started walking in that direction.

Kiki made a face, a sort of scared face. She looked over her shoulder as she walked down the hall, then back up at Soco. "She would try?!"

"I highly doubt it," Soco said with a smile. "She doesn't eat humans -- especially cute little girls, like you." He gave Kiki's hand a reassuring squeeze.

The door to the library, as well as the great windows inside the room, had been left open, providing a nice breeze through the hallway. The room was still as neat as Soco had left it, that morning, which was to be expected since most of the other residents didn't spent a lot of time in there.

The room itself was small in area, but quite tall. The bookcases touched the ceiling -- so tall that they needed those special ladders to reach the highest shelves. Of course, the best books for children and teenagers were left at appropriate heights, and all the "boring" books were at the top.

The windows had seats, and there was a plush couch and matching chair. But also by the windows was the baby grand piano that someone had bought on a whim.

"Well, here it is," Soco said, letting go of Kiki's hand so that she could poke around. "It's not much, but it's good enough for what the family needs."

Light filled Kilayla's face at the 'cute little girl' comment. She was smiling contentedly as they entered the library.

Her eyes roamed around the room, a dreamy look in them. "It's so...pretty," she said quietly.

She felt like maybe running into the library, and flopping down onto one of the pretty couches. Kiki figured that it would probably be better just to walk quietly so she didn't break anything and get kicked out...or eaten!!! {{ gonk }}

Her eyes fell on the piano near the window, and a hopeful look filled her face. She began a careful, quiet walk toward the piano, then hesitated, glancing back over her shoulder at Soco.

There wasn't anything too breakable -- within reason -- in the library, but Soco still appreciated Kiki controlling her excitement. It was clear that she was trying her hardest, just by the expression on her face and the way she moved across the room.

When she turned to look at him, he was still smiling and gave her a nod. "Go ahead and give it a try," he offered. "No one will mind."

"Really!?" Kiki asked. Without waiting for a reply, she made her way over to the piano, and sat down before it.

Her mind flashed breifly to that movie she'd seen with Theif. The pale and pretty blonde girl had sat with her piano teacher, and he hit her fingers when she didn't do it right.

After a second of staring at the black and white keys, Kilayla looked over to Soco. She wondered if he'd hit her fingers. "Please don't hit me," she said to the pink-haired boymaid.

Soco looked appropriately started at this request, wondering where it had come from. "Why would I hit you?" he asked.

Kiki gestured with one of her hands, idlely, kicking her legs, which didn't reach the ground from where she sat.

"You're more like a friend to me, I like you, but you're a teacher, too. You're a piano teacher when we're at the piano. And piano teachers hit you if you don't play right." Kilayla was slightly irritated that she had to explain this to Soco. He was the teacher, after all.

"And, I don't know any music, especially like the people on the music channel so..." Kiki pressed her lips together, and looked down. She then looked back to Soco, and there was no fear or apprehension on her face when she said again, "please don't hit me." It was almost as if she was asking about the weather.

Soco frowned slightly as he listened to Kiki explain her reasoning. He waited until she had finished -- until she repeated her first request -- before he said anything. "I'm not going to hit you," he said, his tone serious. "Not all teachers hit their students, and I'm certainly not someone who hurts others for their mistakes."

He sauntered over and slid onto the piano bench beside her. "Besides, this wasn't meant to be a real lesson," he continued, voice gaining back some of its softness. "This is just for fun. You can just press keys to your heart's content."

Kilayla gazed at Soco and pondered at the tone he'd taken. Theif didn't use a voice like that when he was talking to her, usually. The bird-lady had, though. But, then, he came and sat next to her, and his voice sounded friendly again. Somewhere in the back of her head, she thought, maybe i can be like him when i grow up.

A sigh escaped her lips, and Kiki wondered when it was she'd tilted her head to the side, because she certainly didn't remember doing it. Her hair was tickling her ear, so she pushed it back. She realzed that her hair-tie was gone. Ah, well.

After a few more seconds, Kilayla found that she hadn't said anything in response to Soco; that she'd only been staring at him silently. Theif had told her that staring like this was impolite, so she looked over to the keys of the piano. How pretty they were.

She began an attempt to pluck out the song that the pale, pretty girl had played in the movie. She didn't know what it was called, but it made her feel excited for some reason. It made her want to get up and dance all around the room, but quietly. She tried to explain this to Soco.

"This is a song that Claudia played. She got really good after her piano teacher fell asleep on the piano, and Lestat came and showed her. Then, they went to somebody else's house--they had two little kids--and Claudia played this song for them. She played it after Lestat said, 'Now, try something on a more...somber note.' I'm not really that sure what 'somber' means, but the song was really pretty and different..." Kiki had been striking random keys as she spoke until she heard the ones that matched the song from the movie. After a few tries, she got the first eight bars.

Kiki looked up at Soco as he sat beside her, and her eyes were dreamy and vacant. She began playing the same eight bars again and again.

Even as Kilayla stared at him, Soco stared back, not feeling at all uncomfortable under her gaze. Strange, yes, but it was clear to him that she was momentarily lost in thought.

He watched as she started picking out a song by ear. It wasn't one he recognized, but when she mentioned Claudia and Lestat he figured that it was from a movie version of a book he'd once read. He wasn't much of a movie person, usually, but he'd have to see if this one was as good as the novel.

"Somber," Soco said, "usually means something serious, sometimes dark and gloomy. But even somber music can be quite beautiful."

He watched and listened as Kiki continued repeating the bars she knew. "You play by ear?"

So that's what somber meant. It seemed to fit right.

Kiki blinked up at Soco at his question, then giggled, letting her fingers fall from the piano keys. "I can't play with my ears, silly rabbit!"

Soco laughed, again. "That's not what I meant," he said, still giggling. "When you play by ear, you pick out the notes as you hear them, and then try and put them together with a song you've heard before."

"Ooh," Kiki giggled back. She nodded, and thought carefully about what Soco said. "Yes, then. I guess that's what I do..."

Soco nodded, smiling. "That's cool. I play music that way, too, when I don't have the notes in front of me."

Seeing as how Kiki had paused in her song, he put his long, elegant fingers over the keys. He looked up and half-closed his eyes as he remembered the fingerings for one melody in particular.

"Do you play video games?" he asked as he started to play a few bars of the song.

Kilayla watched Soco thoughtuflly. He looked like he should play piano, she decided. It just seemed right.

Smiling back, she tried to memorize the keys he touched for later, and responded to his question. "No, but it looks fun, from the comercials."

"Ah, then you wouldn't recognize this song, then," Soco murmured, continuing to play. "But I suppose it's just as well; video games can be addicting, and then your brain turns to mush."

"I've heard that song on t.v. before," Kiki replied. She grinned big, and tilted her head to the side, still looking up to her new friend. "Hey, Soco. Is your brain mush?"

"Ohh, okay." Soco continued playing until Kiki asked her next question. At that, he put all his fingers down, creating a rather dissonant chord. He gave her a lop-sided smile. "Only a little bit," he replied. "I read plenty of books, so that helps to correct the brain-mush, you see."

"Oooh," Kiki said, and laughed. She didn't know why in particular, just that she was happy.

"You know what I want to learn? I want to learn things like in the music that Theify listens to." She began to pluck at the keys again, and eventually came to the begining strains of a song called Silver and Cold. She then shook her head and giggled.

"And, I want to play stuff that nobody ever heard." Kilayla began to smash loudly on random keys this time, laughing all the while.

Soco laughed and started hitting keys along with her. The sound grew and grew, echoing through the halls.

It wasn't any surprise that it caught the attention of a few of the residents. One in particular peeked into the room and said, "Heeeyyy~ go easy on that thing!"

Soco stopped, but he was still grinning. "Sorry, Adrian, I guess we just got carried away."

Kiki's laughter faded into a sheepish smile. She half-hid behind Soco, looking up at the violet-haired man from her side of the piano bench. In an unconcious echo of Theif, she combed her bangs down over her eyes with her fingers. "Sorry..." she mumbled, still smiling. Her eyes darted from the man, Adrian, to Soco, and back again.

"Ah, it's no problem; don't worry about it too much," Adrian said quickly when he noticed Kilayla's shyness. He recognized that she was behaving in much the way Malachite or the new boy, Than, did, whenever they were feeling shy.

"I actually had a question for you, Miss Kilayla," the man continued, leaning down to get more on her level. "Would you like to play something for a small group of people? It doesn't have to be anything extrav-- err... really long and complicated. Just a little something?"

Soco sat quietly as Adrian addressed Kiki, who was still half-behind him. He gave his guardian a spectulative look. The man was acting a little nervous, speaking quicker than usual. Maybe it was general stress, and maybe it was because he didn't want to offend their young guest.

Whatever it was, after this weekend was over, Soco was going to see that it was stopped. Afterall, Adrian still hadn't taken those few days off like he'd recommended...

Kiki peeked at the older Karlet through her bangs. She'd just been called 'Miss Kilayla.' It was kind of funny. But to his question. As she answered, but quietly. "I--," she flushed. "I want to, but I don't know any good music."

It hurt her pride to admit that she didn't have the qualifications to do something she so wanted to do, but at her age, she wasn't what one would call a 'deciever.'

"Everybody would laugh at me..."

"Tch, I highly doubt anyone would laugh at you," Adrian said. "And if they did, I'd bop 'em one!"

Soco chuckled. "I think I know where he's going with this," he said to Kiki. "You could play just a few bars of that song you did earlier, and people would be happy. And it's best to take as many chances and opportunities as come your way. Someone once said to me, 'The only things in life I regret are the things I didn't do.' You can say no, if you really feel that way, but I think this would be a good little step in the right direction for you."

Kiki grinned, feeling much less shy... or was that wary? Adrian seemed really nice. She giggled at what he said.

Then Soco began to speak, and she listened. In reply she blinked thoughtfully at the floor as she pressed one finger to her chin. She said, "Oh...okay." She turned on the piano seat so that she could see Mister Adrian {which is how Theif had told her to address him} better. "I won't say no. I'd like to play for people." She smiled brightly, though it didn't reach her eyes, because she was already thinking of the moment when she'd be sitting before that 'small group of people.'

Adrian smiled again. "Okay. That's all I wanted to know. You can still say no when the time comes, if you're not ready."

"There isn't much time," Soco added, "so you might as well get in as much practice as you can."

"Oh!" Kiki cried. She quickly pulled her legs back up, and turned in her seat, so that she was facing the piano again. She stared in concentration at the keys, then began to pluck the tune out again. The tune came out waveringly, and at the wrong tempo, but minutes later, she had it. "I don't think I can do the part wit the drums on the piano, " she told Soco, seriously.

The two young men watched and listened as she went to work, neither noticing any of the mistakes she recognized.

"No, you probably won't be able to," Soco replied. "Are they really, really important, or will just the piano do?"

Adrian plopped down into the nearby chair and curled up in it, silent for the moment.

Her face was obscured by her long, brown curls as she stared intently at what she was doing. She played it again, trying to get it perfect. Her eyes were only for the piano in this moment. Kilayla never looked up as she said, "The drums won't be good unless somebody sings..."

"Maybe it's best to just do the piano then?" Soco suggested, again. He watched her play the piece over and over again, and he found that it was going to become stuck in his head, as songs usually had the tendency to do.

When he turned to glance at Adrian, he noticed that the guardian had fallen asleep.

"Who do you want me to play for?" Kiki asked, finally looking up, to Adrian. A dimple appeared between her eyebrows, but she smiled. He was asleep. Kilayla looked over to Soco with a grin on her face.

Soco smiled and leaned close, speaking quietly. "Malachite's birthday is soon," he explained. "I think Adrian thought it would be nice if you could play something at the party for him."

Adrian stirred in his sleep, but didn't awaken.

"Malachite?" Kiki asked. She bowed her head again, studying her fingers. "Is he..." she looked up, squinting her eyes. "You think he'd like it if I played for his party?"

"Definately." Soco's smile turned into a grin. "He loves music. He doesn't play any instruments, but he sings. I don't think he knows your song, otherwise he'd probably try and sing while you play."

He went silent for a moment, musing. "Yes, he would like it very much if you played for him."

Kilayla smiled brightly. "Okay, then. If Theif let's me." And his name was no sooner off her lips as she saw him moving gracefully and quietly past the door of the library. His back was bent and his ears were pressed back to his head. He looked like he was trying to be invisible. Kiki pressed her fingers to her lips to suppress the giggles, and pointed.

Theif hadn't seen her.

Soco nodded, grinning.

He knew from personal experience that Adrian tended to respond to things in his sleep. So, he spoke quietly. "Hey, Adrian?"

"Mngh..." the guardian barely twitched.

"There's a Theif in the house."

"Hmngh..."

To Kiki, Soco mouthed the words, Three... two... one...

Adrian startled awake, jumping to his feet. "A theif! A THEIF!" He glanced around quickly, had a dizzy spell, and fell back into his seat. "Ack!"

Kiki collapsed into giggles against the piano, making a loud, jarring sound. It only fuled her laughter as Adrian fell back into his seat.

Theif heard ...what he figured was his name, and stuck his head into the room. He couldn't help but grin. His ears were still flattened back. "I promise not to take anything without permission," he called to the the violet-haired man.

Soco chuckled and grinned and watched his boss slowly recover from the powernap and dizzy spell.

"Huh?" Adrian looked up and spotted Theif. "Oh... well, that's good."

He turned to Soco and said, "You're mean! Giving me a heartattack like that..."

"Sorry, sorry," Soco said, hiding his smirk behind his hand.

Adrian saw right through it. "No, you aren't."

"... You're right. I'm not."

Kilayla took her lip between her teeth, in an attempt not to giggle, but Theif had no such reservations, and began to laugh, a loud cheerful sound. Kiki couldn't help but join him.

Adrian pouted as his guests laughed. "Well, anyway," he said, "the party's this weekend, so come by if you have a chance." He got up out of his chair and walked over to the door, ducking through it quickly. "I'll see you when I see you."

Soco was still smirking to himself, but recovered. "I suppose you've come to take her home already?" he asked Theif.

"Of course," Theif said to Adrian. His laughter quieted down, and his expression was caught somewhere between humorous and apologetic. "I hope I didn't offend him," Theif said to Soco, of Adrian, once he'd left the room.

Kiki was suddenly clinging to his side. He half-hugged her back, as she looked silently at Soco with a small smile playing on her lips. "Yes, I've come to take her home."

"Turns out in much less trouble than I thought I'd be," He said after a breif silence. He smiled at Soco, too, and shook his head.

"I wouldn't worry about it," Soco said, bowing his head. "I'll find a way to make it up to him, later."

He didn't quite understand the man's next comment, so he didn't say anything. He rose from the bench, and said, "I'll walk you out, then." To Kilayla, he added, "I hope you had a good time."

"Ah, okay," Theif said. As the little girl and her guardian went with Soco, she detached herself from Theif and grabbed Soco's hand again.

"I had fun," she said, bouncing along beside him. "But we could prolly have more fun if we like played more games, or something next time..."

"If she can come over another time, that is," Theif said, eyeing Kiki and smiling.

Soco swung his arm a little as Kiki bounced along. "Sure!" he said, smiling. "More games, we shall have."

He glanced over his shoulder at Theif. "Of course she can. If she couldn't, she wouldn't have been invited to Malachite's birthday party."

He brought them into the front entrance hall and opened the door for them. "We'll see you soon," he said. "Give us a call if you need anything at all."

"Right," Theif said, smiling into his gloved palm. Of course Kiki was welcome again, how absentminded he was.

As they walked away, Kiki waved furiously at Soco. "Bye, Soco~!" she cried, "Byeeeeeeeeee~!"

Theif giggled and waved as well. To Soco's last comment, he replied, "Of course, of course! And, see you next time."

Soco waved back as they left. "See you soon~" he called. "Bye!"

Once the two were out of sight, he shut the door and went to go find Adrian to finish plotting out the upcoming party.

Malachite's Birthday Party!

Fun was had, friends were made.
^^

Something From Theif

Theif was tired. He was having such a bad time at work. He was thinking very seriously about quitting, and a close friend had fallen on hard times, and was turning to Theif for help. Not having to be under such stress was exactly the reason he worked where he did, and so he got bitchy.

A couple of days after Malachite's party, Theif woke up later than he usually did, and felt like crap. Kiki was in the living room watching the Jerry show, and she was bored stiff, and thinking about the party, and the people she'd met.

She heard Theif come out of their room, and crawled from her position on her back in front of the television to the bookcase near the hall...Theif was walking towards the bathroom. He was wearing his gloves, a pair of baggy black jeans, and a tattered black zip-up hoodie with white paint splotches on it. That, and his collar, as always. The sweater was open all the way down to his hips.

Kilayla frowned and looked up at Theif, because he'd stopped as she was staring at him; that, and she'd never seen him dress in such clothes. Her eyes went up from his chest, which she'd seen a thousand and a half times before, up to his eyes, and for some reason, she was suddenly afraid. Theif's eyes looked more yellow than she'd ever seen them, but the color seemed angry, somehow. He narrowed those scary gold eyes at her, and she sucked in her breath and disappeared back around the corner. She heard Theif open and close a door.

Kiki pressed her back against the bookcase, and drew her knees up under her chin. She felt her throat closing a little and coughed, but it didn't make the feeling go away. When tears started pooling in her eyes, she growled at herself and slammed her head back against the bookcase. She'd be damned if she'd cry. It was just - Theif never showed any hostility toward her. Why should he start now?

Theif trompped out of the hallway and went into the kitchen. He looked over at Kilayla, who went to pretending she was still watching t.v., and then went into the kitchen and started to make noise. After about a half an hour, he came out of the kitchen and said, "I made you food. I'm leaving now. Stay in the house, and I'll be right back."

And he left.

Kiki was mad now. She pressed her lips together angrily after she heard the front door close, then she ran over to said door, and kicked it. How dare Theif try to make her cry?! She kicked the door again, and screamed at it. It made her feel a little better.

Kilayla sighed, and went into the room and grabbed Nothing, hugging him. in a fit of pettiness, she went into the closet and climbed to the top shelf. She pushed aside some boxes and a bag, and got to the cardboard box that Theif had "hid" all his books in again. He was running out of hiding spots. She pulled out the one about Elizabet. Kiki was starting to learn more and more from these books, but even so, there were still bits she didn't quite understand.

For example, the last she'd read in this one {that she was now snuggled into the covers with Nothing, reading} a girl had asked Elizabet if she liked sweater meat. Kiki couldn't figure out what that was. It wasn't in the dictionary, and sweaters were made of cotton, or wool, maybe. Maybe she meant like sheep meat? But that didn't make sense, not in that situation, anyway.

But the books were good, and the only place she could learn about sex, so Theif could just go stuff it.

~~~
By the time her guardian was back, Kilayla was asleep. Theif had gone to visit his friend, and found out that the guy was to be evicted soon. In response, he'd bought a bunch of stuff. He'd gone with his friend to a shopping center, bought things, and flirted with people. It made him feel a little better. Both about his friend's situation, and about his little moment of mean-ness with Kilayla. He was also a little moody 'cos the full moon was rolling around, but that's a different thing.
Kiki stirred when she heard Theif comming into the room, but didn't awaken. He set the bags against the dresser and crawled underneath the mosquito netting with Kiki. He pulled her back so that her head rested on his leg and gently tugged her hair-tie out of her hair. He parted her hair using only his fingers, then reached over into one of the bags and pulled out two tie-on ribbons.
Kilayla was awake, now, after all the movement, but she pretended to sleep. Theif noticed the change in her breathing...that she was awake, but said nothing. He simply tied the bows into her hair and kissed her on her forehead. She turned onto her shoulder, so her cheek was resting against Theif's leg.
"Are you mad at me?" she asked quietly.
Theif sighed, and shook his head. He was a little distressed. "I'm not mad at you."
"You seemed a little like you were mad at me before," Kilayla responded, unmoving.
"Well, I'm just kind of angry with everthing, right now. Except you. I'm not angry at you. I knew I kind of made you upset, so I got you some things." Theif reached into one of the bags, and pulled out a book. "This is for you."
Kiki took the book from Theif. It had a hard cover, that was swirled all over in blue and green. "It's pretty," she whispered. She opened the book, and saw -- nothing. The book was empty. She told Theif this.
"Yes, I know. It's a journal. Or, a diary, whichever name you like better. I've been meaning to get you one for a long time."
"A diary?" Kiki turned it over gingerly in her hands. Momentarily, she looked up to Theif, and he had the thought that she was terribly cute in two pigtails. She didn't smile.
"Don't you like it?"
"I like it," Kiki responded, quietly.
"Oh, okay," Theif said. He was a little disappointed that he didn't at least get a smile out of her.
She stayed silent for a little while.
Kilayla was leafing through the blank diary pages when she suddenly looked up at Theif. "What's sweater meat?"
Theif's mouth popped open, and his hand flew to his cheek of it's own accord. "Uhm," he stated.
Kiki looked at him. "Tell me," she said. She wouldn't let it go this time. "What's sweater meat?"
Theif closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying not to blush. He opened his eyes, and looked down into the face of the little green-eyed girl.
"S-sweater meat. That's er..." Theif began to thump his tail against the floor, betraying his agitation. "Sweater meat is a vulgar term for brests..." Theif didn't know why, but he drew out the last word. It was prolly 'cos he didn't want to say it.
"What does vulgar mean?" Kilayla asked him. He got up slowly, and wandered out of the room thinking that wasn't too bad.
"Pick up a dictionary --" he started.
"Learn a new word," Kiki finished. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know."
Theif laughed.
Kilayla
Dear diary book,
Today, when I got home from learning with Soco, there was a man Ive never met in the house. I got kinda scared, because he was inside, and I had never met him before. He had a big bushie purple tail, and funny looking ears. He said his name was Nameed, and then Theef came out, and I wasn't as scared to talk to him. They said he was a friend of Theef, and that he was in trouble at his house or something, so he is staying with us for a little. I don't know if I like him yet, but maybe Theef does. Maybe they will do stuff like I read about in Theefs books. I wonder if I could catch them.
Love, Kiki
Kilayla
Dear book,
A bunch of interesting stuff went on over the weekend. I was sitting around playing a game on Namid's(thats how you're supposed to spell it)laptop, and I heard this really loud thump sound comming from my old study room(its Namid's room now.). I went over to look in the door, and Thief was standing there pressing Namid against the wall. He was wearing the clothes he started wearing(the black jacket and baggy pants...I don't like it as much as when he wears skirts and stuff). He whispered some words at Namid like he was really angry, and Namid looked a little scared, even though he's bigger. I would have been scared, too, though, because Thief had his ears pressed back, and was showing his teeth. I never noticed befor, but his teeth look kinda sharp. They didn't see me when they came back out, because I went back in the living room and pretended I'd been playing the whole time.
And, then, later, when they left(Thief said they were going to go on a walk and that if I got hungry I should make something) I went to look for one of Thief's books to read. I was reading one about this really cool vampire guy, and now I'm going to ask Thief to take me to eat at Denny's, because his friends eat there. I looked all over, and could not find Thief's books!
I finally went to look in the front hall closet, and found a trap door in the floor. I tried and tried to open it, but it wouldn't open, until I turned the ring to the side. Then, the door opened. It was really cool, what I found. I think Theif's books might be down there. Okay, I'm tired of writing.
Love, Kiki
What Did Indeed Happen
Kiki had indeed found a secret door. And how strange and magnificent it was. After an hour of trying to figure out how to get inside, she finally heard a tiny voice tell her to turn the ring. She ignored the fact that said voice seemed to come from her doll Nothing, who she carried in her arms, and turned the ring in the floor, and pulled the door open. She went down the short ladder, to the staircase that led further down.
Once down the stairs, she felt around the walls until she found a light switch. She flicked it on, clutching Nothing, and took in a deep breath. This place was pretty...if dank smelling, dim and dusty were your fancy. She looked over to the wall and saw a poster that said something along the lines of, "If you're reading this, you should be dead. -The Management" There was a happy face on the sign.
"It's nothing to be afraid of..." Kiki heard, deciding the voice came from her, and not the smiling blue doll in her arms. The sign, did, in effect, freak her out, however much she denied it.
Upon further inspection, Kilayla found that this room was only one of very, very many. She also found another staircase that led down, and a couple of mysterious tunnles. She didn't go down the stairs for the same reason that she didn't enter any of the tunnles. It was because, even though she knew monsters didn't exist, she also knew that they'd get her, if she went too far alone.
Soon enough, she'd gone back upstairs, to scribble furiously in her journal, and wonder when she'd have the courage to brave the hole in the closet again.
The Hole in the Wall in the Hole in the Floor
Kiki was walking home from Karlet's place. She hadn't felt particularly enthused during today's lesson, and had asked to go home early, and stalked off without an answer.
When she was outside the door of her home, she debated going straight inside. She did have the keys. Kilayla thought twice on it, and decided that she'd scuttle over to the park and try the entrance there.
After braving one of the tunnels one sleepless night, she'd found that it emptied out to a hill that was near the park. The tunnel was just big enough to accomodate her comfortably, so as she wiggled into it on her stomach after checking to see that no one was watching.
She had to crawl on her stomach for a bit before she could move onto her hands and knees. After about ten minutes, she could go on foot, and not hit her head. Soon enough, she was on what she called the negative fourth floor.
The air in the place seemed to be pulling at her, like dozens of wispy invisible hands begging her to stay. And how she wanted to. I do want to. I want to stay here. Kiki sat down against a stoney wall in the long, long hallway. I want to stay in this place until I become a part of it.
As she sat there she thought of how wonderful it could be. She wanted to bring a piano down with her and play music that sounded like an abandoned child, but she didn't want to tell Theif about this place. He'd take it away. She'd die if he took it away.
The silence seemed so alive, like it had so much to say. Kilayla, she heard from the stairway that led to the negative third floor. She got up and went toward it. Kiki, came the hiss, seemingly in her very ear as she passed a closed door. She whipped her head toward it, and jumped sideways. Her pigtails whipped her head in response.
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained," she mumbled, bracing herself and going to the door. Without the slightest hesitation, she flung the door open.
It was another big room, with those ominous dark stains on the walls, and restraints paired on either side of a staircase that led upward. Hm, another staircase. She walked towards it, and as she did, felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Breifly, she had the overwhelming feeling that she was trapped in a horror film, but looked {ever so slowly} over her shoulder anyway.
What she saw didn't seem too unusual. Even so, she felt a heart stopping sort of horror just looking at it. The wall, which looked solid enough from the other side was...broken. The wood and wiring from inside the wall were clearly visible due to a hole roughly the size of a school bus. The cement from said wall was littering the floor, but nowhere near enough of it to account for what was missing.
What in the name of Hell's Bells had come out of the wall? Dread filled Kiki's heart as she stood motionless in the middle of the floor. She felt almost like if she moved, something would surely take her life. After ten minutes, she bolted, and ran back the way she came.
Ran, like the hounds of hell were after her. Ran, as if her life or her sanity depended on it. In half the time it had taken her to make it through the tunnel to get into the house, she was back at the park, panting, with her bangs stuck with sweat to her forehead.
She walked home, filled with the sense that someone was following her, and once she got inside, locked all the doors, and made sure all the windows were closed.
Including the closet door.
Randomness
Kilayla flopped onto Namid as he sat on the couch. He flinched, then looked down at her. She'd closed her eyes.
"Flail," she mumbled, following her own instructions.
Namid's face crumpled into laughter. "What's your problem?" he asked.
"I dunno. I'm bored," Kiki slipped off of his lap and onto the floor, with a vague thump. She was wearing Theif's clothes, again. A frilly black skirt that she had yet to grow into, striped shorts underneath, and a shirt with sleeves that matched the shorts.
"You're bored. What am I supposed to do about that?"
Kiki sat up, and grabbed his tail in both arms. It was about as long as she was tall. He tried to pull it away, but she ignored him. "Entertain me!"
Namid stared blankly at her. "Entertain you...?"
Kilayla glared at him breifly. "Why do you keep repeating everything I say?"
"If you're bored, I can take you for a movie, if you like," Namid replied, ignoring her question.
"Sure," Kiki sighed. Namid tried to pull his tail away again, but only hurt himself.
~~~

Later, outside the movie theatre, Namid and Kilayla sat together, eating ice cream. "That movie sucked," Kiki said, bluntly.

"If you'd actually been paying attention, you might have liked it," Namid said to her.

Kiki licked at her ice cream. "Can you pass me that stick?" she asked, in a suddenly cheerful voice.

Namid looked around. "What stick?"

"The one up your a**," she mumbled.

Namid's eyes widened. "What the hell is the matter with you, Kilayla?!"

Kiki frowned up at him from between her twin ponytails. She threw down her ice cream and smashed it with her boot, standing. "What's the matter with me," she stated in a heated, but quiet voice. "is you, and Theif, and how I'm always alone! It's like nobody ever has enough time for me anymore! What am I, furnature to you guys?"

Namid looked at her, silently, a slight frown creasing his brow. "Let's go home. You need a nap or something."

Kiki flipped him off, and stormed away. Or, tried. Namid only followed her.

Moving

Kilayla was laying down in the room she shared with Theif, brooding. She'd been doing a lot of it lately. So much so that Namid had even bothered to ask why it seemed to be her favorite passtime. In reply, Kilayla had gazed quietly at him and shut the door equally as quiet in his face.

Brooding was all that she did when she lay there in her heap of blankets, underneath the mosquito netting, aside from sleeping. She also thought long and hard about many, many things. One thing that she'd been thinking about for quite a while was weather she wanted to continue to see Theif's face first thing every day, and last thing every night. It wasn't that she hated seeing him. She just felt like she needed her space. Or that's what she'd written in her book, anyway.

Kiki rolled over onto her stomach and rested her head on her arms, wondering just how she'd be going about this.

~~~
Theif, Kiki, and Namid were sitting at the island/kitchen table eating dinner together. Kilayla was wearing some ripped old skirt that she'd dug out of the bottom of the closet, and a shirt that belonged to Theif which had a slightly demented looking happy face spraypainted on the front. She kind of liked wearing skirts...you could move around more easily in them than you could in pants. Kiki shook her head. Why am I thinking about clothes?
"No, no, no, no! You can't even believe how serious I am!" Theif was crying, gesturing in the air with his fork. Namid was grinning at him.
"How serious are you?"
Theif laughed uproarously. "You just--it's just like when you go to --"
"Theif," Kiki interrupted quietly, but with authority. Theif's ear twitched, and Namid swished his big, violet tail as they both turned their heads toward her with questioning looks on their faces.
"Yes, babydoll?"
Kiki prodded a small stalk of broccoli on her plate with her fork, then slammed the fork down and looked up, trying to make fire burn behind her eyes.
"I don't want to sleep with you anymore!"
Silence fell for a second, then Namid turned his head and stared at Theif. He spoke slowly. "I knew there were girls in the world that you liked, but--"
"No!!!" Theif boomed, a completely terrifying look crumpling his face. For someone who had been so joyful only seconds before, Theif suddenly had an awful look that he got sometimes--that look that said, I know I'm a monster, and I also know that if you keep doing what you're doing, I WILL kill you. His eyes glinted scarily as he glared at Namid. "Stop. Talking."
After taking a moment to get himself back together, Theif gave an apologetic smile, and looked back over at Kilayla again. "What is it you want?"
"I don't want to share a room with you anymore..." Kiki answered hesitantly, picking her fork back up and poking at her broccoli once more.
Theif's eyes seemed to lose a little of their light, but he just gave a soft smile. "It's fine with me, Kilayla. If Namid is also fine with it, you can have his room." His eyes slid over to Namid, who had his head down, and his ears flatened against his head. His tail was wrapped along his leg, away from Theif.
"It's okay with me. But, where will I sleep?" he said this very quietly.
Theif gave Namid a terribly uninterested look, and said, "On the couch or something until I forgive you. And it may take a while." To Kilayla, he said, "After dinner, you can help Namid move his things out of your new bedroom, and he can help you more your things in. It'll be fun!"
They finished eating dinner silently.
New Space
Kilayla
Dear book,
I'm finally comfortable in my room. Even though its an old space, it feels like a new one. I got Theif to buy me these nice, lacy black curtains, and I got to keep Namid's old bed. My old study desk is still in the corner of the room, and the chair that goes with it. I'm going to talk Theif into getting me a computer eventually. I've all ready learned lots of things about them from using Namid's laptop. You know you can write programs and stuff for computers to make games and stuff? Its pretty cool.
I spend most of my time in here, now. Theif is all the time banging on my door and asking me to take a bathroom break, whatever that means. I think its some stupid joke between him and Namid. God, they should just get marryed or something.
The basement is still dark, and ugly. But, I love it. Even though it kind of
scares me sometimes. One day while I was like fifteen floors down, I found something that mite be an old dry human finger. And, from now on, I want people to call me Ki. Or Kii. It sounds like Key. Something about the basement makes me feel like a different person, so a different name is perfect.
Love, Kii
Kilayla tucked the pen behind her ear and continued sitting silently where she was, staring into empty space. She rubbed her eye and stood, so that she could make her way back to the ground floor of her home. Climbing through the trapdoor, she snagged and tore the pants she was wearing. They were an old pair of Theif's pants that she used to wear when she was younger. They were now torn from her hip all the way to her knee.
After stopping to listen at the closet door, Kilayla let herself into the front hall. Theif'll probably fix these for me, she was thinking. With her Book under her arm, and without hesitating to knock on Theif's closed door, Kiki was suddenly but only slightly confused by what she was seeing.
There was Namid's bare back. Nothing new there. But was that Theif's tail peeking from between his arm and his waist? The thought was answered by the sight of Theif's and reaching back and grasping Namid's neck. Not to pull him closer, but to move him away. Quickly but calmly, Theif pulled blankets over the both of them before turning to face Kilayla.
"I thought you were with Soco," Theif said. It would have seemed a normal enough question if not for the facts that he wasn't wearing a shirt either, that his bangs were sticking to his face,and that Namid was hiding underneath the covers as if Kilayla couldn't see him.
"No," she replied. "What are you doing?" She knew exactly what they'd been doing, but she couldn't help but ask.
"I'll talk to you about it later, doll. For now, take some money out of my pants--they're on the floor--and go to visit Soco, or one of those girls you met at Mal's party. And call me when you get where ever it is you go, okay? If none of your friends are home, I'm sure there's somebody to play with at Soco's place." While he spoke he watched with calm eyes as Kilayla silently followed his directions.
"Okay. I'll call." She closed the door quietly, went to put away her Book, grabbed a jacket, and left the house laughing.
What Could it Be?
Kilayla
I actually haven't gone to see Soco for quite a while. I feel bad about it, but not so bad that I can find the motivation to do something about it.
Theif has been hiding something from me. He won't let me in his room anymore, and he won't let me stay in the house when he leaves, if Namid isn't here. I don't understand fully what's going on, but I do know that I'm going to make an effort to find out.
Secrecy be damned!
Kilayla chewed thoughtfully at the back of her pen, then stopped. She'd done that once and ended up with blue ink dribbling down her face. It hadn't been that tasty.
She shook her head, and looked over to Nothing, her little plushy darling. He stared back at her with wide eyes and a blank smile from beside her pillows. "They can't keep this from me forever," she said.
It's Alive!!!
Kilayla
I heard it! Today, I heard it! Whatever it is that Theif and Namid are hiding from me, it's alive!!!
Theif tried fooling me into believing that it was just him, scratching his toenails against his door, but I am no idiot. I know, I really do KNOW that there's something living in his room. He's brought people to come and live with us before, but I don't think this is a "person" in the traditional sense, like I am. Whatever he's keeping from me, it's some sort of creature.
A monster, likely. Something so horrible and ugly that he doesn't want to expose my poor little mind to it.
As if I would be that weak.
Kilayla scoffed, and slammed her book shut.
For Sparta!
Kilayla
Dear Book,
Theif's got this friend that keeps coming over here. He's short {almost as short as Theif, lawl...}, and has red hair. He's annoying, and ever since that one movie came out about those Romans in bikini's, that's all he ever talks about when he comes over. God, sometimes, I think about stabbing myself in the ear with a q-tip.
That's all for now, kthxbai.
All But She
Kilayla sat on her bed, in the room she now shared. Her "little sister" was nowhere in sight, presumably somewhere outside, playing with Namid. Kilayla settled down into her blankets with her journal and began to write.
Kilayla
There has been so much going on since I was away...
I've finally met Immy, the little kittengirl. I hate her. Theif thinks she's so cute and loveable. She even calls him "Papa." I think she's evil. I think she's trying to move in and ruin my relationship with Theif and with Namid. They spend so much time with her, much more time than they ever spent with me.
And can you believe they make me share my room with the little beast? It's not like it matters, though, because she spends all her nights in Thief's room with him. It's disgusting watching the way he dotes on her. I have half a mind to take her into the Basement and lose her there.
Kilayla slammed her book shut and sneered.
