(( Dint really wanna be the first to enter but oh wells XD )) Awen Zyn Awen heard the girl calling out and it sounded like someone in need. It didn't seem terribly urgent so Awen gave herself time to towel dry as she got out of her tank-bed and get a pair of shorts and a tank top to fit over her bathing suit. She had just layed down for a nap with her head above water before she heard the yelling. When she exited her duplex she looked around. Seeing the dark-head right down the line of duplexes Awen's stomach tightened. A new arrival? Or someone she just hadn't seen before? She slowly made her way forward, not to startle the girl if anything went wrong, or she hadn't seen another islander. "Hello there." She said in a somewhat cheery voice. "Is something the matter?" Sayuri hadnt seen Awen, and when she spoke did in fact startle badly. 'Nothing..' she said, voice downcast and a little croaky after her yelling session. It was odd how liberating it had been to scream and rail against being her..stuck on this Island for who now how long, taken away from everything she had known. But after a while she had gotten tired, felt like it had accomplished nothing but to get her noticed by others, and a sore throat. She looked properly at the girl who had approached, eyes widening and she stumbled back, catching her heel on her kimono skirts and almost falling onto the floor. Was this what was in store for her? Her heart thudded in her chest as she looked at Awen, taking in the skin tone, the gills, the protusions from her head and the fin-type skin that stretched on the girls forearms. 'Sorry sorry..' she stammered bowing her head repeatedly, sorry for staring, for the shock. Maybe she should start again. 'Hello,' she bowed again, the ornaments in her hair tinkling as she did so. 'My name is Sayuri Satoharu.'Antoinette Devereaux Antony had finally decided to return all the DVDs that she had borrowed from the entertainment room, and after eating, she did just that. With a cigarette lit between her fingers and a stack of DVDs nestled in the crook of her arm, the tattooed woman made her way through the village. She took note that Jamal was no longer in his cage before stepping into the entertainment room whilst taking a drag from her smoke. It was only then that she noticed Sayuri, and she frowned sadly at her smoke. "Want me to put this out?" She asked, motioning towards the cig in her hand. Sayuri shook her head, looking up from the book she was reading and shaking her head at the woman she had come to think of in her mind as 'the decorated lady'. She always tried to moderate her exuberant nature around Antoinette, and stifled a nervous giggle. 'Onesan smoked like a chimney,' she said brightly. 'I have gotten used to the smell really.' She hoped that Antoinette would sit a while; she was really fascinated by the tough-seeming woman, probably as much as people found the fact that Sayuri herself wore kimono and white face make-up all the time! 'You can..sit if you like?' she asked tentatively, motioning to the seat near her.Emelyn It had been hours- nearly a day- since Emelyn's revelation at the foot of the mountain, and since that time, the strength the girl had prayed for seemed to have come for her- in spades. During the day, she had gorged her small, pained stomach in berries and grubs- and drank enough water to satisfy her tortured body. Then, during the night- she'd begun to gather herself, and walk slowly about the island, just enough to stretch her muscles before collapsing back inside her mountain home. ...Only recently had she awoken to find that her physical strength- though rife with many dips to contradict its normal valor - had mostly returned. Thus, why the girl found herself, basket at hip, coming down the mountain at midday to see if anything on her drying rack had been left lie by the birds. The sun was bright, that day- and nearly blinded the hedgehog-girl as she made her way over the light, hilly dunes. Sand crunched between her toes, and she wiped away the beadlets of sweat that gathered on her torso- which was bare to the world, except for her old, white bikini top- and, of course, the tawny fur that covered her body. Emelyn almost didn't see that there was a girl on the beach until she'd hit the tidal zone- and then, she gasped. "Oh!" She said, squinting into the light, "I'm sorry- I didn't see you there." She didn't know, based on the way the girl was turned- if she'd met her yet, or not. Sayuri looked up, shielding her eyes from the sun as she blinked at the girl who had walked up without her hearing her approach. 'That's ok,' she got to her feet, brushing the sand from her kimono. It was a warm day, but she would have felt exposed wearing anything else, and preferred to sweat then be socially uncomfortable. She gave a bow, trying not to stare at the fur, or the hair that more resembled spikes then anything on this girl. 'I like it very much here,' Sayuri said, smiling, looking out at the sea. 'I'd never seen the ocean before now. I miss my family and home, and I am terrified about ..' her eyes flickered over Emelyn again, and then back away towards the rolling waves. 'What's to come.. but if I'd never come here then I wouldn't have seen all this,' and she gestured with her hand towards the horizon. 'I know I must sound so silly, rambling on about how lovely the view is when I'm stuck here like everyone else. I'm always told I'm too bright and cheery when I shouldnt be.' Sayuri grinned apologetically at the girl. 'Anyway..I've done it again..I rambled without introducing myself. Bad bad habit..' she bowed again. 'I am Sayuri Satoharu.'(( *crosses fingers and squeaks* ))

Quote: Avery Calder Wrote: After sleeping in - very late - Avery woke up alone in the bed in Awen's duplex. He stretched on the bed and it suddenly hit him how hungry he was. When was the last time he ate anything? How long ago was it..? His stomach growled and Avery rolled out of bed, deciding on priorities - food first, then shower, then find a place to clean his clothes. For now, he would just have to wander out in the pajamas (navy blue long sleeve top and a pair of blue striped pants) he was borrowing from Awen. He borrowed Awen's hairbrush again, brushing out his hair real quick before leaving the duplex. Glancing around his surroundings, Avery realized he didn't know where the cafeteria was... Well, standing around wouldn't help him find it. He decided to walk around the buildings until he was able to find it, or run into someone who did know where it was. Katina opened her eyes and was suddenly blinded by the morning sun shining through the window of her duplex."Well I can see that its mornin' already and boy am I famished!" She sat up and stretched before getting up and changing into some clothes that were lying on the floor." Well until Dr. Whatever gets me some new clothes these will have to do." After spraying some strong smelling perfume onto her dirty clothes she quickly brushed her hair and slipped on her boots. As she stepped out of her duplex she looked around to see if she could see a sign or something to direct her to the cafeteria. Not seeing one she decided to wander around a bit till she found it. As she turned a corner she bumped into a very odd looking fellow."Im sorry I wasn't really paying any attention to where I was walking, to busy trying to find the damn cafeteria..Do you happen to know where I might find it?? ((might add another a bit later...))

[Risth's Entries - "Play To Your Strengths"]A Note : I am posting my first entry in this thread and then will be editting to add the other ones.#1 Julian Vorpalle But there wasn't anything behind his eyes - just a hollow, eerie calm.
"...I don't remember saying that," he said dreamily, blinking twice. "...Besides, if I don't let him help me, the voices will only come back. I don't like the voices."
His tail drooped over the edge of the bed, the end swaying to and fro.
There was a weird silence in the room - moreso than normal. To keen ears, the hum of the fridge was dominant. Something was missing.
The hands of his pocketwatch had stilled. It hadn't been wound today. Yamamoto Kikue Kikue froze, looking at his face in the light of the room. "...The voices?" she echoed softly, fear creeping into the edge of her voice. From what she knew already, the thought of Julian hearing voices all of the time sent a feeling through her that disarmed her previous encouraging tone. There might be more than the Cat. Who else could there be? Might it be anyone out of Wonderland? She stood in front of him, holding both of her hands over her chest. Trying to meet his green, feline eyes, she struggled with the decision to ask about the "voices." If they were like the Cat, they'd have come slinking right out of Julian's Wonderland, too. What she could remember of the stories from reading them as a child in London had her imagination grinding painfully to life, as she pictured him heaving up a chair and screaming "OFF WITH HER HEAD!" at any moment. She watched his tail twitching over the edge of the bed, her eyes roving the feline features distinguishing themselves from his otherwise human body. The Chesire Cat, she whispered mentally. The stripes on Julian's fur were not lost to her. Maybe it was from the changes. Maybe Julian's Cat was the result of what the changes were doing to him mentally... He had such a haunted look on his thin face... Kikue suddenly felt a kind of desperate pain, somewhere in her chest. It wasn't the fact he was hearing voices in the first place that scared her...it was 'who' those voices were, and where they were from. "Julian," she started, her voice faltering as she tried to look at him again. That inward fear kept chewing on her insides, the thought that maybe, just maybe, the lines of reality weren't as clear as she had thought them to be. So often she hid in her own books or journals or music. What if it...it happens to me...
That's ridiculous. This isn't a story... It's from his changes... It's shocked him so that this is how his mind is dealing with it......But was that really it? She noticed what he seemed to be looking at, out of the corner of his eye. "Your watch has stopped," she whispered, nodding at it. For one wild moment, she thought if he never wound it again, Wonderland might vanish from his mind. Yet her voice still asked while she was thinking the very thought, "...Do you want me to wind it for you?" Stories are only stories...#2 Colche Colche smiled and nodded happily "Colche like prince" she stated with a puurr nestling in a kiddish manner against Kikue as the next story began. It facinated her that they could put the whole story on a screen, on a magic little disc. She puurred happily, waiting for the first frames of animation. She of course, instantly took a liking to belle, mainly because she was singing from the start. "Like movies" she settles in to a gentle puurr which rolls off quietly as she once again falls in to this magical world on the screen finding the songs even betetr than the snow white movie. She'd be humming the beggining song fo days for sure, it was so nice, she wanted to be like belle.
Looking up at Kikue she smiled, once again turning that sad cheetah face in to a grin "I..wanna..be..belle" she grinned looking at Kikue, belle was pretty andshe had a nice voice and she sang lots, it was a simple request, and her sentence, for once wasn't in third person. Yamamoto Kikue A smile spread itself across Kikue's face. Colche's cheerfulness was infectious. "You want to be Belle?" Kikue questioned, her face showing more emotion than she had shown in a long time. She didn't say it in third-person... Kikue's arm was already around Colche's furry shoulders, but in a movement that surprised Kikue herself, Kikue laid her head on Colche's. Inwardly she stood at the verge of her mind, completely aghast at what she was doing. She was never like this so easily in front of other people! "Belle's a good choice for you," she heard her voice saying, as if it were from far away. On-screen, Belle was just walking slowly onto the TV, dressed in her beautiful yellow gown to dance with the Beast. Kikue had only heard the story in books herself, but it touched something in her the same way all the other stories did. She lifted her head from Colche's ebony hair and pointed at the screen. "Look at her dress, it's almost colored like your fur, Colche." Kikue smiled at the little cat-girl nestled against her side. Those blue eyes were watching the screen with such a sense of wonder... "One day, you'll probably dance just like that, too." Kikue's head slipped back onto Colche's, watching the screen. Her voice came softly. "You'll dance just like a princess." Belle and the Beast whirled across the marble floor, the song leading them. "...With your prince." Kikue's grey eyes slipped closed, images from her own fairytale book surfacing in her mind. It was kind of like a dance... From so long ago... But I've never danced...The sound of one of her favorite pieces of the violin, echoing quietly. And she began to fall asleep, holding onto to Colche, the song still playing. 'Tale as old as time...' Colche's fur was warm, and Kikue's mind had wandered too far towards sleep to even worry if she looked silly or not. The song... #3 Fiona Brooks Ack, it was talking! Wait... it had just done that before, hadn't it? Okay... maybe not an animal. Her face sort of froze, one eyebrow twitching as she listened. After the snow leopard-woman had finished explaining, yet another emotion played across her rather animated visage. "Holy s**t, Feral Labs goes a hell of a long ways for their scare tactics. No wonder they get away with so much. That's real funny, cat DNA, sure. But you can't scare me off. The second I get home the police are going to find out about your security guards' not-so-nice method of apprehension, and it's going up all over the internet like you wouldn't believe."
A triumphant smirk. "Did they honestly think it would be that easy to get rid of me? Seriously, don't normal people just call the cops and get a restraining order or something? This can't be legal. PETA is going to have a field day with this." She crossed her arms, becoming serious. "Feral picked the wrong girl to try and intimidate. What a stupid thing to do, but then again, I wouldn't expect people who inject random crap into harmless rabbits and mice and kittens," she spat dramatically, "to have that much common sense." Yamamoto Kikue The irritation that was now so often creeping up on Kikue and taking control got the better of her. A growl sounded deep in her throat, and she glared daggers at the girl. She had no idea what "PETA" was, but this girl had crossed an invisable line. "I don't know who you think you are to accuse the first person you see here, but I have no idea what or who 'Feral Labs' is," Kikue nearly snarled, her vaguely feline eyes flashing. "But I have nothing to do with them. Especially if they're comprised of Moreau and the rest of the staff here." Her silvery fur bristling, Kikue unknowingly showed her sharp teeth in a look of what was unmistakabley a cat's aggression stance. This girl had no right to show up out of nowhere, pointing fingers at anyone that came around the corner as the torturer of her precious mice and kittens. The one comfort, though, came from the girl's claim to going home and wrecking havoc on the internet with her little tale. "I don't think you'll be going home anytime soon," Kikue stated bluntly, not caring to try and soften the blow. As if this girl was going to believe her anyway. I should have told her I was a lab kitten that they're trying to grostequely turn into a human being. Even know, Kikue didn't know what she was turning into, but the fact it was feline was apparent enough. "You shouldn't be worrying about rabbits and mice." Kikue finally realized her temper was getting the better of her again - that fierceness swelling up in her when she found herself in a confrontation. She tried to control it, but found in a way she didn't even want to. She glared into Fiona's stark blue eyes. "You should be worrying about yourself. Because you're the one in the lab now." Whipping around, Kikue stalked off from the girl, her back to her as she headed back to her duplex. The anger was plain on her face, while she mentally made a note to burn the orange-haired girl's image into her mind. Then she wouldn't forget what she'd looked like, even when the girl began to sprout fur. Assuming it would be fur. "What a way to start the day," Kikue growled to herself.

((woot got these in just in time smile )) Emelyn "Well, as far as the changes go- as soon as everyone arrives, they get their first injection. ...I'm sure you've... already had yours," Emelyn said sympathetically, "and then- in a few weeks, you'll receive your second. Sometimes they'll call you to the labs for the second- or they'll do it while you're sleeping. In which case, most people have nightmares- and they wake up while they're changing." She held out her arms, as if to showcase those tawny-colored, fur-covered appendages, and turned them, showing her darkened fingernails on their way to becoming claws. "I've changed... twice. I don't know how many more there are. The first time, it didn't hurt much at all. I just had a little discomfort- chills- as the hair grew- and then some pain as my nose changed, and some internal changes. ...The second one was a little bit more painful, but it was over in a matter of an hour. And came months after the first change." She sighed, brushing her proto-spines away from her forehead, collecting a smear of dewy sweat on her palm as she did. "And as for living on the island... well... you'll find that some of the islanders are wonderful, amazing people. And some you should probably stay away from." Bekah tilted her head slightly as Emelyn shared her transformation experiences with her. " Considering I hate needles I'm kind of glad that they wait til you're asleep. I'd rather deal with the nightmares." She nodded thanks as Emelyn warned her about being wary of some of the islanders. "Well I don't think I'll be meeting up with to many, see I plan to spend most of my time working, that is after my supplies get here." Glancing down at her watch she gaped in surprise. "Wow, I've spent entirely to much time away from my research. If you'd please excuse me." And with that she was hurrying off back to her duplex and her comfort zone.Proth He frowned pointedly. "I don't get why she thought she could just go from scientist to islander without any resistance." Still, he wasn't about to wax lyrical on the whole thing, that would just get him angry again and when he was angry, he had to go hunt something to take his mind off it, in this form, he wasn't the best of hunters. Instead he opted to raise a brow at the black-haired woman and change the subject. "So how did they get you here? Any particular lies?" Bekah sat on the floor in front of him. "Who knows, maybe she got tired of the lies." She snickered. " They told me that they could overcome my addiction to their Serum 45. I guess their solution was to 'upgrade' me." She made a very unlady-like grunt. "Granted there was nothing for me back in the States, but I hear others have left many loved ones." She lays back and stares lazily at the sky.Julian Setting down his plate, he carefully shook the hand - being careful not to claw her. "...Pleased to meet you. I'm Julian Vorpalle." Shyly, he sat down, that nervous smile sticking on his face. "...Are you...new?" Bekah returned his smile but a bit more confidently. "It's a pleasure to meet you Julian." She slid into the seat next to him and opened her pop. "No, been here for a few weeks now. And it seems I ain't goin back anytime soon." There's a definate southern accent in her voice. "How long have you been stuck on this paradise?" The last word was just dripping with sarcasam.

William Woodrow Billy had been unusually quiet these past few days since his return to his duplex. His wounded tentacle still hurt, itching terribly as he supposed it was begining to regenerate itself. He shuddered at the thought, and therefor tried not to think about it. The morning he decided to venture out again, he noticed a plate of strange crab-cake looking things with a note from Aubrey. He snorted after reading it. Right. Like he should believe that she'd just make him crabcakes to make up for cutting off his ball and driving him to drunken self-mutilation. He'd get a second opinion befor eating them. He wasn't stupid.
Scooping it up in his mitten-like hands, he wandered down the path towards the beach- on a lovely day like this, *someone* had to be out there... maybe Antony would be surfing or something.
It wasn't long befor he did, in fact, notice two figures on the sand. From this distance, he couldn't recognize either of them- he didn't recall meeting a fat black woman and a young girl like the one he saw. No matter, he was sure they still might be helpfull. "Hoy!" He called, striding closer. Evan Yorke Her attention moved from the larger dark woman, and watched on as a new man approached. He seemed odd from a distance, something she couldn't quite put her fingers on.
"Hell-Oh... mygod..." It hit her, like a train. His arms. They were purple. He got all the closer and her eyes widened in shock and absolute disbelief. They were tenticals!
What on earth was going on here!? Tenticals!? Oh, sure, she'd seen some strange things in books, but she'd never seen a man with suckers and fours extra limbs that moved like that before. Come to think of it, she'd never seen a man with four extra limbs! She stood in awkward silence, mouth agape. The other woman had told her of the goings on, Evan couldn't believe it. But now she saw Billy, she didn't know what to say.
"You have tenticals! Are you okay!?" Okay. That was the wrong thing to say. ((And that's all from me. T__T))

To those of you who entered: wow, what a great job!! I'm actually glad so few of you did enter- because now I have an excuse to reward you all, because you definitely all deserved it. There were things I loved out of all the entries- so without further ado Winners of the 20k Scholarship (In no particular order. <3) +Risth +Sayuri_NittaWinners of a Partial Scholarship- 10k (In no particular order. <3) +Wolfgrl13: In this 'put forth your best foot' contest, basically- I can see that your biggest strength is character development. Katina is original and spunky- and that stood out. (Hopefully, we'll get to see more of Katina, and see how she'd develop on the island! ^_^) Charmaine Kitteridge: One of your strengths is obviously dialogue. Bekah answers how someone would really respond- not too much, not too little. Bekah obviously conveys a lot of her feelings through her words, and the tone of her voice. Evan Yorke: I'm very impressed that you managed to get this out so quickly, and have it be the caliber that it is. Remind me next time to harrass you to enter earlier, so I might see more of your very descriptive writing (with well chosen words/analogies.) ^_^

Gallen Storm Missing something here, how do we applie for a scholarship sorry I am a little confussed sweatdrop The next time an event comes up, it'll be posted/advertised. ^_^ I've been putting it on hold due to a) all the excitement in rl and in the Moreau world, so there's not been a lot of time for an event and b) because recently all the events for the shop have been free.
