(16/20) It wasn't that he WANTED to be with others while drunk, per se. It was that when he was drunk, it seemed like a very good idea, regardless of whether or not it WAS. How many times had he had to sneak out of a house after falling into bed with someone whose father would probably MURDER him for it? And it wasn't that Morain had any qualms about it; before Kani, he'd been shameless in his open affections, and sometimes multiple partners.
Until Kani came along, that is.
Kani continued to play with his hair, but her words made him frown, finally turning to properly face her, reaching to lightly grasp her wrist. "I don't." He said, quickly. But then he thought over the words and immediately shook his head. "You're more than just - just a warm body to share a night with. To me. Last night, I - I could see us drinking our wine, and going out to stare at the sky, and then this morning we'd wake up together in this bed, and--" His other hand smoothed over the rumpled sheets, his brow furrowed. "I don't want that for us unless - unless we do that other nights too. Without wine. Without a count down hanging over our heads to when we part ways. Do you understand?"

Kani took in his words, stilling her fingers and looking at him. Morain didn't think of her as just a friend....she thought so at least. His words sounded more than something a friend would say, but in manners of flesh and the heart she was....inexperienced. Her singular example many years ago and much more innocent than the thoughts that arose when she was with Morain.
"I-I think I understand," Kani nodded, turning the thoughts over in her brain before she said something she shouldn't. Despite the carefulness she wanted to have with her words, she felt a bold action would assist her. Leaning forward to close some of the space between them Kani smiled shyly before quickly kissing his cheek. "I don't want that for us either. At least not under any influence. I-if you wish for something like that it should be without wine. Not that wine was bad, but you're not just a warm body either. You're sweet and wonderful and really do deserve so much."

(17/20) It shouldn't have been a surprise. Kani had showed interest in him last night, and ... he knew she wasn't the kind of person to flutter her eyes at someone just to have fun. Not that anything was wrong with that, of course -- he'd be a hypocrite if he thought so, but--! It wasn't typical of her, was all. And yet, he still felt nervous to admit that he wanted something with her, almost like he feared she'd frown at him and be disappointed that he wanted something, in exchange for the companionship and closeness they'd shared the past few weeks.
Instead, a tremor took over her voice, and she paused to weigh her options, leaving him breathless and wide eyed as he waited for her answer. When she finally moved, Morain forced himself to stay still, to not pull away when she closed the space between them - and was rewarded with the soft press of her lips to his cheek. His skin tingled under her touch, an innocent feeling that felt breathtaking to him, despite the fact it was such a chaste and sweet gesture.
"So do you." Morain said, immediately, reaching with newfound boldness to cup her cheek, thumb lightly tracing the speckles that painted under her eye. "So let me say it as clearly as I can. I want to be with you, Kani. I liked when we were called lovebirds, last night - I liked when you called me dear, and I want to keep traveling with you. I was supposed to be in Jauhar - weeks ago, but I keep making excuses to keep traveling with you, because I like your company a lot and--" He leaned forward, half expecting to kiss her, but instead pressed his forehead to hers, noses bumping. "So? Do you - want to give this a try? With me?"
He wasn't above saying 'please', but he left it out, for the moment.

Kani hadn't expected to hear such words from Morain. Given her track record the thought of being so close to someone scared her, but she wanted to try with him. More than anything. Being with Morain felt right. Hearing that he'd put off his own goals to stay with her should have made her feel guilty, but she was pleased to hear how much he wanted to stay with her. "I liked it too. I like being with you and spending time with you. I like how I can relax with you. I don't have to fear being myself. You....make me feel like I matter," she admitted, suddenly worrying if she'd been too much. Kani sighed happily despite her rush of nerves, allowing herself to relax against his hand and press her forehead back against his. "I want to give it all a try."

(18/20) It wasn't... putting off his goals, as much as his goals seemed less important now. Maybe someday he'd go back and try to learn about his heritage, but he didn't want to stop living his life in order to do so.
This thing with Kani, just being friends with her, was so new - he wanted to nurture it, and to see where it could grow. So when she agreed, his face lit up, smiling before she'd even finished her piece. The hand on her cheek continued to gently pet at her skin, touch going more tender when she spoke of 'fearing' herself - it was important, he felt, another piece of the puzzle he hadn't been brave enough to try and investigate further.
He wouldn't pry. That she'd shared that much already felt immense and important. "You do. Always. And for you - I wanna become the person that you see, when you look at me."
Maybe she wouldn't understand just what he was trying to say, but to him it meant quite a bit.
When she finally agreed, he lifted his other hand to cup her other cheek, and dipped close to kiss her - a brief, chaste press of their lips, despite the passion he felt in his heart for her. But - she was hungover, he was a mess, and he felt a proper kiss should wait until he'd taken care of her, and treated her to a proper first date.
When he pulled back, her tucked a wayward curl behind her ear, then grinned at her again. "How is your head? I think Tale has a sort've... tree bark? You chew it, and your mouth goes a little fuzzy, but it does wonders for a headache."

"Much better with your gentle care," Kani muttered, fingers lifting to touch her lips where his had just been. Despite the mess she felt she had caused with her odd drunken state, the overall outcome seemed to be much more positive than she was initially considering it would be. Even with the chasteness of the kiss her whole face flushed and lips tingled from the unexpected gesture. It had been many years since she had allowed herself to get close to anyone, let alone like this, and Kani was thrilled and energized by it. She just had to remind herself not to be too much. "I think finding that would be helpful. In my misguided frustration I believe I overdid it," she admitted, resting her hand atop his. "Once that's done we could also find something to eat."

(19/20) Your wish is my command." Morain said with a playful little bow. He lifted her hand to his lips so he could press a kiss to her knuckles, then let go as he climbed out of her bed, ducking down to his bag to retrieve a hair tie. " Trust me; you won't want to be around all the banging and clanging outside, with that headache, so I'll bring our food back. Something easy on the stomach, I think. Leave it to me!" He winked at her, as he tied up his hair, then turned away from her so he could look for his shoes.

Kani was happy to have Morain's playful affection, wrapping the covers around herself as she nestled in to wait for him. She wanted to follow after him to help out, but knew it would do more harm than good. Once they found food she wasn't really sure what plans they would have, but she was happy to follow wherever he decided to go. "Don't say such things, you know. My wishes? If it were my wish I would keep you here a bit longer," Kani admitted softly, face heating even as she ducked further into her covers. "But go on. I will await you here!"

(20/20) Morain paused briefly to look at Kani, biting his lip as a swell of emotion hit him. Goddess, he really liked her. He hovered for a moment, then tiptoed over the mess of blankets and clothes he'd left on the floor, leaning over the edge of the bed to kiss the top of her head once again. It still felt surreal, that he could do it now without feeling guilty - that she wanted this, too! " My sweet lady, if you keep saying things like that I'll never be able to pull myself from your side." He chuckled, then finally dragged himself away again. It might be a good thing that he was running off to get food, because he could take a moment in the hallway, clutching his chest and marveling over just how amazingly well that much dreaded conversation had gone.

Kani watched Morain leave the room, joy bubbling up inside her even has her head decided to drum up an unsteady rhythm from her drunken nonsense. It had all started rather rocky sure, but she could certainly get used to all of it. Their unexpected travels had turned into something far more than she'd ever thought would happen - not that she minded.
"I will just have to keep you by my side as long as I can then," Kani said to herself, eager for whatever adventures awaited them.
