The pair would arrive at the lake, finding a beautiful still body of water, the sun's warm rays reflecting off its surface. Lily pads dotted the lake, some of which Sub had no doubt were Lotad, and on the sides clusters of cat-tails were seen as well. He would notice clumps of wild leeks growing on the shore as well and immediately knew there had to be Farfetch'd nearby. In his youth the ducks were extremely rare, almost extinct, but these days wherever there are leek there are Farfetch'd. Continuing to scan the lake he spotted a Goldeen as it poked its head out of the water and then dived back down, its little horn the last thing that disappeared. Looking down at Hop-Frog, who was also captivated by the scenery, the man would smile. This was nice, he was glad he came out here.

"Goos!" Hissed the creature that suddenly made itself known as it bounced Hop-Frog, rushing out from some nearby tall grass. The next thing Sub knew his frog and this wild Yungoos were rolling around in the grass, headed towards the lake. Poor Hop-Frog was completely blindsided by his assailant and already took a powerful Bite in their scuffle, the creature obviously having Stake Out'd and prepared its attack. What a brute.

"Hop-Frog! Get it off! Use Water Gun!" Sub commanded. He would watch as Hop-Frog managed to get a hold of the Yungoos, grabbing it by both of its forelegs and holding it away from his own face as the Normal type wildly bit at the air between them, craving another taste of frog flesh. Hop-Frog would build up a far amount of water in its gullet as it held the Yungoos back and in the same moment it let go of the weasel he would unleash his Water Gun, blasting the enemy right in the face and sending it flying off of him thanks to the force of the Water move. With it off of him Hop-Frog would be quick to jump onto his feet and prepare for more.

The Yungoos would splash into the lake, already wet before it even got there. The frenzied creature would not wait to retaliate as it came running back out of the lake, soaked, and slinging mud at the Froakie with Mud-Slap. First an ambush and now trying to blind its opponent with mud, does the Yungoos species not fight far or just this one?

Getting hit with the mud, which surprisingly had some force behind it, Hop-Frog would let out annoyed grunts and wipe from mud off from one of its large eyes. It was slightly more difficult to see now but the frog was not going to let that get in the way of punishing this beast which was still charging towards him. "Use Smokescreen!" Sub cried out, not wanting to risk his frog missing an attack and being wide open for whatever the Yungoos had planned. With a nod Hop-Frog would stand up straight on its hind legs and with his hands interlocked some of his fingers and made a 'ninjutsu' gesture. This gesture was immediately followed up with a poof of black smoke emitting from his and rapidly consuming the area, the Yungoos rushing right into it before it even had time to realize what happened.

Now surrounded by darkness the wild Yungoos would be dazed and confuse, unable to see where it was let alone where its opponent was. This time it would be Hop-Frog who would deliver sneak attacks. "Now, Swift! Show me a big one!" Sub ordered.

With a croak Hop-Frog would leap up out of the Smokescreen, charging up energy between its two hands which took on the form of a star. As he gained height his star would grow in size until it was roughly a foot in diameter, much bigger than a typical Swift 'star'.

As his began his descent back down Hop-Frog would hurl the Swift star into the smoke with as much force as he could muster, the star slicing through the smoke and blowing it away in its path. The smoke would clear just soon enough for the Yungoos to see the large energy star coming for it but not quick enough to do anything about it as the Swift slammed into the Yungoos, the star sweeping it off its feet and carrying it off towards the lake. The star would take the Yungoos as far as the center of the lake before it finally exploded, sending the Normal type falling into the water.

"Nice one!" Sub commended his frog as he landed, the Froakie letting out a prideful croak. The two would then stand there for a minute or two, expecting the Yungoos to return for more but alas it did not. Figuring it had accepted defeat, or had been knocked out, the Snagem leader decided to walk off and see what else they could find. For now though he was proud of his frog who shown a natural talent for battling.

Continuing to walk around the lake the pair would find a nice spot to sit down and just relax for a bit, Sub figuring his Pokemon needed something of a breather after that savage creature decided to ruin their day. Sitting in the grass he would watch Hop-Frog move closer to the water and splash around a little bit on the shore. His Froakie sure seemed happy and this made the trainer happy as well. Basking in the sun Sub would let out a relaxed sigh...however fate would once again ruin the moment.

Hop-Frog would step further into the lake and step on something under the water, the frog letting out a startled cry as he leaped backwards and onto the shore. Sub would jump to his feet as well and look over to see what was wrong, just in time to see a very small Pokemon rapidly wiggle out of the water and ram its full body into Hop-Frog, the critter giving off a burst of Bug energy as it utilized Struggle Bug, the Froakie letting out a hiss of pain as it wasn't too powerful of an attack but it was enough to sting.

"A Wimpod, you must have stepped on it and scared it. Those things normally avoid fights all together." Sub commented as he watched Hop-Frog try to walk backwards away from the flailing bug. "Well I guess it picked 'fight' between fight or flight so I suppose it's time to knock some sense back into it and maybe scare it away. Hop-Frog, use Pound...but go easy on it." Sub commanded. He knew he needed to get the Bug type off of Hop-Frog but the trainer could tell it was just scared and confused so he didn't want Hop-Frog to hurt it too much.

With an annoyed croak Hop-Frog would hold the Wimpod back with one hand and charge up a tiny bit of Normal energy in its other before taking the free hand and punching downward on the top of the Wimpod's head. The Turn Tail Pokemon would let out a yelp of pain and freeze up for a moment, finally putting an end to its panicked Struggle Bug. Once sense returned to the bug it would look around a bit before looking up at the frog in front of it and let out a startled cry. The Wimpod would then promptly turn around and scurry back into the water, disappearing into the lake, leaving Hop-Frog alone.

Sub would let out a sigh of relief and just shake his head, poor little Pokemon. "I pity anyone who tries to train one of those things." He commented, but then realized he has a rather wimpy Pokemon of his own he needed to train, a Magikarp. Brushing off that thought he motioned for Hop-Frog to come along as they set off to find another spot of the lake to explore.

Sebastian's eyes widened in awe as he stared out at the various areas of the Friend Zone. It was the Poochyena hybrid's first time seeing anything quite like it, and his tail whipped behind him excitedly as he tried to decide where he wanted to venture first. Tali, his Blitzle, stood beside him patiently, though did nudge her trainer with her nose after a moment. The young boy rested one hand on the Blitzle's neck, petting her gently.

"Maybe we should just start in the Grasslands since it's closest, and then move on from there if we don't find anything cool?" Sebby voiced, mostly to himself.

Thinking on it only for a moment longer, the hybrid ventured off towards the Grasslands area. The wind gently ruffled the fur on his face as he walked. Tali trotted alongside him, her hooves muffled on the dirt and grass. The two would keep an eye out for any Pokemon that might be of interest...

The grass seemed to get taller quickly in the direction that Sebastian had chosen to head off in. It didnt take long for it to reach his waist, making it more difficult to walk through, or see where their feet were for that matter. Unfortunately, it meant that Tali trotted on some poor Pokemon's tail, earning her a bite to one leg. The Blitzle reared up, revealing a Yungoos that had decided to latch on before scurrying up the Electrified Pokemon's leg. The Loitering Pokemon leaped towards the young hybrid in an attempt to get away from the larger Pokemon, landing square in Sebastian's face.

Neither knew how to react, Sebastian instinctively grabbed the Pokemon that was suddenly attached to him and held it away from him. "I-I'm sorry that Tali stepped on you, but that wasn't very nice."

"Goos!" the Yungoos only hissed in response, trying to squirm out of Sebastian's grasp.

Suspecting something was about to happen, Tali started to Charge up. The Blitzle readied herself for whatever might come next. Sure enough, a few moments later Sebastian would lose his grip on the wiggly weasel, and the Yungoos would launch itself back towards Tali, only to be met with a Shock Wave as it landed on her back. Instead of clinging to her, Tali would buck the smaller Pokemon off, stomping one hoof next to it and startling it away. The Yungoos hissed again as it stared at the two of them from a distance, not wanting to get further injured.

"Let's just keep going Tali, it seems kind of mean," Sebastian spoke softly to his Pokemon, wandering back into the grass as he did.

Brian walked into the grasslands of the Friend Zone, Sparx by his side. The Yamper had lost some of his boundless energy the older he got, though his curiosity hadn't dimmed at all. His nose was quivering the entire time they were walking, eagerly taking in and memorizing every scent. Some were quite interesting, others less so, but all filed away in the Electric-type's memory. Brian's eyes were never still while they were moving, ever on the lookout for anything that might jump out at them. It didn't take long before one did, and as Brian turned to the sound of rustling nearby, he looked at Sparx, who had stopped and was watching the tall grass a few feet away. Both waited until the Pokemon inside came into the open, revealing....

A Flabebe. The grass parted to allow the flower-riding Fairy-type through, though it didn't appear to see them right away. When it did, however, it wasted no time in firing off a Fairy Wind, catching both Brian and Sparx off guard. The Yamper tried to dodge, but the attack clipped his side, causing him to growl a bit in pain. While it hadn't done much damage, it had still hurt, and he was quick to respond with a Spark attack before Brian could order him to move. The electrified Corgi slammed into the Flabebe with enough force to send it tumbling, but it wasn't out yet.

The Fairy-type got up and fired off a Razor Leaf, which Sparx only barely managed to dodge. The Flabebe then used Grassy Terrain, healing both itself and Sparx for a small amount of damage, and when Brian saw it starting to glow green, he knew what it was doing. "Hit it with Spark again, Sparx!" he ordered, and the Yamper obeyed, this time landing a critical hit and knocking the Fairy-type out. The Grassy Terrain had done its job before it faded; Brian didn't even need to give Sparx a berry to heal him. "Come on, boy, let's see what else we can find," he said, rubbing the Electric-type's head before walking again.

Crystal and Donne would continue walking, the hybrid talking out her SNAG again to look something up, when the pair would come across a red and brown striped puppy. "I... Well then." Crystal would have a small smile on her face as she pointed her head away from it, motioning for the Bronzor to follow her. "Maybe another time, but, eh... you're not fighting a Growlithe, at least. Come on." The pair would walk off again, though, to continue their hunt of Pokémon. "I didn't think this little one would be so elusive, though.... We might have you start battling soon, anyways. Sans fire types."

An unfamiliar-looking elephant Pokémon stood in front of Monique. Phanpy. Ground. The Long Nose Pokémon. It is strong despite its compact size. It can easily pick up and carry an adult human on its back.

This Pokémon seemed interesting. For once, not a Water-type! It reminded her a bit of the Donphan she had run into on Mt. Silver, the moment after landing in this world. It was so weird to think she could talk to Pokémon, something she rarely could figure out regularly, though.

"Bubble Beam!" Perhaps Corphish picked up on Monique's positivity. The Bubble Beam did super effective damage.

Phanpy responded to the damaging move by rushing Corphish, then using its trunk to Slam it. That seemed to really hurt. How much longer was this Pokémon going to have to fight?

Perhaps sensing that another move might cause it to faint, Phanpy used Endure. It stood sturdy as ever on all four legs, intently focused, waiting for Corphish to do something. And that something was another Bubble Beam. The Long Nose Pokémon winced in visible pain at the Water-type attack, but it had planted itself so firmly that it remained upright.

Monique then tossed her second Safari Ball at the Ground-type. Phanpy was captured in the Ball, which shook on the cave floor...

One shake. Two shakes. Three shakes. But it popped out!

Monique was crestfallen. She'd lost out on Inkay. She'd lost out on Phanpy. Did she finish the fight? Or did she give up and look for another Pokémon?

Suddenly, she remembered something. Crystal had given her an Ultra Ball when she entered because she wasn't aware you could use Safari Balls, and somehow in the heat of battle she blanked. She rummaged in the bag for the Ultra Ball and chucked it at Phanpy. Would it connect? Would she be spared the indignity of a Safari Contest emptyhanded?

The answer, unfortunately for the sheriff of New Po, was a resounding no. She sighed, recalled Corphish, and trudged out of the cave. Now she wanted an Inkay and/or a Phanpy—and was going to have to work the real hard way to get either of them.

Freth managed to guide the dragon off to where she wanted, albeit to the Shadow Pokémon’s chagrin. Freth realized nearly everything that she does could set a Shadow Pokémon off without notice. And pulling it away from a fight is a good way to do that. She could see it; the agitation in the Hakamo-o’s eyes. To make matters worse, she had no good way to defend herself other than recalling the Pokémon back to a Pokeball. The Vivid Scent helped, but it was a temporary fix if nothing else. “Look, we’re trying to make the most of this excursion, alright?” she told the Shadow Pokémon. He wouldn’t reply. Freth expected no less.

“You make it sound like that you can be relatable to a Shadow Pokémon. He doesn’t care.” The Hunter spoke once more.

“Look, it doesn’t matter if they’re shadowfied or not. It’s the only way to get them better…” she said under her breath. “You have to get them to know you care, which I do. Otherwise you’re just training for no reason. I would have thought you would have known that. Or at the very least, since my memories is practically a public library to you, you would have seen that.”

“I’ve heard about it, both the original version of shadowfication, which was effectively brainwashing, and now the viral plague that Ein set off. Regardless of how its induced, it really doesn’t look like it matters a whole lot. You’re still doing what the Pokémon is basically been warped to do anyways: fight.” She said. “I’d imagine it more like solidifying the Shadow Pokémon’s position instead of getting it back to normal.”

“You need to stop ‘imagining’. It’s a lot more complicated than that.” Freth said.

“If you say so.”

Freth rolled her eyes for a second, then took notice to a Pokémon making its way out of the brush. She heard of this little thing. A Formantis. While the tiny ones weren’t that much of a threat, the bigger Lurantis were pretty formidable. Possibly could rival a Scyther if it tried. For now, though…

“Alright Hakamo-o, let’s go.”

The Hakamo-o marched forward to square down the Formantis which got the Formantis back away a couple of steps. Freth almost felt guilty for a second, at least up until the Formantis decided to take initiative, leaping up and unleashing a flurry of Razor Leaves upon the Hakamo-o. The grass attack barely fazed the dragon. “Hakamo-o, use Dragon Claw!” she shouted. The Hakamo-o rushed in, lighting its claws up in draconic power and swatted the Formantis with such force. The Formantis hit the ground a good ways away. The Formantis, reeling from the attack, tries to retaliate, rushing as fast as it could towards the taller, much more powerful dragon, doing the best Slash attack it could. It was an annoyance to the Shadow Pokémon, for certain. “A” for effort as far as Freth was concerned, but… “Hakamo-o, Headbutt.” As the Formantis flailed to try to slash at the dragon once again, the fighting dragon scooped it up in its hands, picking up the tiny Pokémon and driving its scaly head full force right into the grass type. The Hakamo-o then would merely drop the Formantis, completely out cold from the attack.

“You’re a bad person.” The Hunter said.

“Shut up.”

After dealing with the Formantis, Freth had to admit that it probably did little to help Hakamo-o. Maybe she should have fought yet another Venomoth after all, take the risk and all of that. Too late to turn back now, but perhaps she could salvage something. Maybe she could shake something strong out of the trees. Beedrill, Venomoth, maybe a Heracross. The latter of which sounds pretty enticing to give Hakamo-o quite a workout. She makes her way to a tree, looking up in the branches. The tree was dense and she couldn’t really tell what was up in it sans on the lowest of branches. Unfortunately, nothing on those branches, it looked…

“Hey, Hakamo-o. Let’s see if anyone is home to fight.” She said, backing away from the tree. “You’re looking for a fight, right? Well, how about give this tree a bit of a shake. Use your Headbutt attack.” The Hakamo-o was staring at Freth, and in the way it was, Freth wasn’t sure if it wasn’t understanding what she wanted, or if it was being disobedient. “Come on. Headbutt it. See if we can’t shake something out of there. You’re good. Go for it.”

The Hakamo-o walked over towards the tree finally after a couple of minutes of coaxing, then rushes at the tree head first. The tree rattles furiously; the trunk cratered from the sheer force of the headbutt. Something was making noise in the tree, something was trying to get caught in the branches, only to land on the ground with a very heavy thud. Way too heavy of one, at that. “The hell was that?” That didn’t sound like a Heracross would make, and she’d imagine that’d sooner make Beedrill and Venomoth fly out in agitation instead of fall out. She circled the tree and found what made impact. A Pokemon shiny, yet spiky carapace. It started to wiggle about then finally make it back up right, leaving Freth to make sense of what just happened. “A Ferroseed…not…what I was hoping for.”

“That Venomoth was looking better and better now, isn’t it?”

“Can you not…?” Freth then took notice to the Ferroseed as it growled out in anger. “Better than nothing I guess. Hakamo-o!” she shouted. The Hakamo-o came around to the other side of the tree, seeing the Ferroseed. The Ferroseed spun itself around to look at the Hakamo-o, having to lean back quite a bit just to look up at the much taller dragon. The Ferroseed went completely wide-eyed, then started to focus furiously. Its carapace started to shine brighter and brighter. “OH SH-HAKAMO-O RUN!“ Freth yelped out, quickly dashing away. The forest’s peaceful tranquility was then dashed with a massive boom. The tree that it fell from completely fallen over from the massive amount of abuse it took in such short order.

Freth picked her face up out of the ground after having to hit the dirt. She then looked back after the dust cleared. The Ferroseed was passed out from its kamikaze maneuver of Self-Destruct. Her Hakamo-o was on its back, but then sat up almost as if a Pokémon possessed. However, even though it seemingly couldn’t feel any amount of pain, Freth could see the damage that it caused and it was fairly extensive. She doubted that Hakamo-o even bothered running with how much damage that she could just see where she was up front. “This is going to be a long safari, isn’t it?”

“You honestly didn’t have to use this Hakamo-o, you know. This is on you.”

“No one asked you.”

Abby ran up to the contest grounds out of breath, with Palladia, her Machamp, keeping just ahead of her, The tall, four-armed, somehow feminine wall of muscle looked down on her trainer with a sense of concern, but the young Deathrage was quick to get her second wind. "Whoo! Looks like we made it in time," Absinthe cheered, clapping her Machamp on the back before walking up to the contest holders and sighing up. With three Safari Balls on her belt, a secret fourth in her bag, and the rest of her Pokemon training against wild Pokemon on the surface of Mt. Silver, Absinthe made her way to the Forest area ready to hunt down some Pokemon.

Absinthe found herself quite impressed with the first Pokemon she came across. While it wasn't a Fighting-type, Scyther was still an impressively-looking aggressive physical bruiser. Part of her hoped that she came across an evolved one, as that'd be a Five-star. Still, as this Scyther was, it would be a nice catch regardless. "Alright, Palladia, give him the business," Absinthe cheered.

Walking up to the Scyther, Palladia cracked her knuckles and charged in on the Bug-type, getting an early Close Counter on the insect. This proved to be a mistake for various reasons, the primary two being that the use of Close Combat lowered her physical and special defenses and the lack of range left her wide open to an Air Slash from the Scyther, the super-effective move knocking her back considerably. The pain only served to enrage Palladia, though, the wall of muscle standing up to present four overheated Fire Punches directly into the Sycther's chitinous face. Before the bug fainted, Absinthe threw a Safari Ball, offering the Scyther one and only one chance to join her team.

As she went to guide the Hakamo-o away from the self-destructing Ferroseed, she went on to take a better assessment of the damage that the dragon had took. He still wasn’t in the least fazed it seemed like, but she knew of the Shadow Pokémon’s off-the-wall tolerances to pain. The apparent burns, scrapes, and so on, its scales nearly compromised from the blast. He was going to need to shed as his species are known for, but how long is that, and for that matter, how willing was he was going to be a whole other matter. He was going to need to get to a Pokémon center soon, regardless of all which. She checked her pack once again; she knew she had the stuff to cure paralysis and poison and things of that matter…she also had one revive as a contingency plan. But as for immediate treatment? “Crap, no potions…wait, how long have I been out of those?”

“You honestly don’t remember? This just continues to get better.” The hunter noted.

“Shut up. Its fine. Maybe.” She said. “Maybe…you know how to use a Drain Punch attack?” she asked the Hakamo-o. The dragon wouldn’t reply. “Hello? Drain punch? God, you’re not going to help at all, aren’t you?”

“He doesn’t care.”

“I gathered. Ugh…if this thing doesn’t have a Drain Punch attack, this is going to honestly suck.” She said.

“You are in a forest where it seems like half the Pokémon here so far are actually resistant to such an attack. Speaking of, is that another Venomoth?” the Hunter spoke up.

Freth looked up and sure enough, another Venomoth. This forest was apparently loaded with them. “Oh come on.” Freth then said. She then started to take the Hakamo-o away from any potential fight.
