Priam laughed softly, endeared again by Yu when he gently bumped heads with him. That was familiar; he wondered if Yu had learned it from the dogs or if it was just something that was understood between every species.
There didn't seem anything odd, jumping between knives and cooking. They were simply two things he would associate with Yu, two different parts of him.
"I would never want you to have to be around a horrible sea-roach for any longer than you need, Yu. Please. I'll never ask you for lobster. Your smoothie sounds wonderful already, and I'm still full from this sandwich. I'd love anything you made me, Yu. Something you and Sterling worked on together would be divine, I think. Just so you know."
His fingers glided over it, like he was still trying to get used to the shape but knew he had a long way to go. "Thank you for worrying about me so much. Thank you for helping me like this. I promise I'll stab the next person who gives me trouble. Probably," he said, but he could hardly say it with a straight face. "I'll try, at least. I won't let someone throw me off a roof again. And I promise I'll take all of your lessons seriously, and I'll stop making excuses. And I promise," he was looking at Yu's cheek, which seemed unfairly kissable, especially because he didn't even know where they were in this relationship, "I'll do everything in my power not to make you worry."

“I appreciate that, but if you ever did want it, I’d find a way to make it happen. I don’t want to cut you off from things you enjoy just because of… me.” He wasn’t sure he could explain more than that, or better than that. “If it makes you feel better, even if you do stab them it’d be a heck of a thing to make it lethal. So .. you’re just discouraging them, making them realize that you’re not going to just be an easy target just because you’re kind and smart.” “I’ll try and not give you a reason to worry either, sound good? I’ll even call when I’m free from work and on my way home, or…text if it's late because my hours are all over when it comes to cleaning nights or prep nights.”

Yes, unfairly kissable, when he could say such sweet things.
Priam smiled again, because he really just couldn't help it. "Thank you," he said, and really meant it. He'd breathe easier with updates, just because it meant less to worry about. Or, if something was wrong, less time to realize it and do something about it.
"Even if I liked lobster enough to want it, I like you enough to completely cut it out of my life. You're certainly the better meal."
He was quiet for a second, as the gravity of the misspeaking slipped out, and he wondered if maybe he'd harbored some feelings for Yu that he hadn't really realized until he was being invited into their relationship, and now he was tripping over his words and making a fine fool of himself, just because Yu had called him kind and smart.
"Deal," he corrected, in stunned, abject horror, as he dully stared at an empty space across the kitchen.

Yu ducked his head in a huffing laugh at being called a better meal. “I’ll take that.” he grinned. “Does that… mean we get to call you a snack?” He teased. “Though I guess we should really wait till you feel better to find out.” His ears were hot, but he was hoping badly that he didn’t misread that comment. “You alright?” He added cautiously. “I…can shut up…”

Priam could just die. At least Yu was laughing, but his ears burned, his cheeks burned, his throat burned.
"I'm fine," he assured, managing to look at him with an obviously embarrassed smile. "That slipped out. I'm so sorry. I had meant to start flirting eventually, I didn't mean for that to slip out. But you took it very well, and now I don't feel so silly. I would have liked it more if I could have picked something clever. Oh," he exhaled.
"I hope you and Sterling knew how serious I was when I said I'm rusty," he said, and managed a little laugh instead of some awkward one. Although, now that the moment had passed and he hadn't died of embarrassment, he laughed again, a little more genuine.
"I wish I could blame that on the medicine but I'm completely clear headed right now. I was just distracted by how charming you are."

“We can blame the medicine anyhow, for the fact you think I’m charming. That or we have a serious problem in this house cause Sterling seems to think the same.” He shook his head grinning and then added. “But, I can ask to kiss you, Sterling kissed you at the hospital, maybe I need to catch up, or prove I’m worth it?”

"Oh," Priam said suddenly, like he'd only just realized that all of that hadn't been some strange medicine dream. "You're right. I'd completely forgotten."
It took a few seconds for him to even realize what he'd been asked, too caught on trying to remember the details of Sterling's kiss. His head jerked to Yu, too quickly, but the rush of endorphins he was already feeling numbed any pain he might have accidentally just subjected himself to.
"You don't have to prove any sort of worth to me, I already think you're priceless." He was still the faintest shades of pink, but he wasn't red, at least, and that was better than he could hope for. He hadn't bitten his lip or his tongue, so he should get bonus points for that, too.
"But I, um. Yes. We--a kiss, yes. We could do that. I suppose it's only fair. I--you two have talked about--that sort of thing already--haven't you? I mean--if it's okay, then yes, absolutely. I'd really like that, actually."
...Right? He'd been thinking about kissing him for at least a few minutes now, wondering if it was taboo or scandalous, and here he was, just offering it.
...Priam hoped, with all of his being, that this was not a joke, because if he'd just fallen into some prank, if he'd misunderstood, he'd just die right now.

“I’m pretty sure you could ask him for a redo, since you were pretty out of it at the time.” He tucked a hand gently under Priam’s chin and leaned in to place a gentle kiss. A light taste. Feeling the hint of what they could have should all go well. “Was that... a decent start? Trust me I’m not as good as Sterling...”

It was all too easy to rest against Yu's hand, to let him guide the kiss. It was gentle, unhurried, and so easy to relax into. He didn't have the opportunity to acknowledge any of his usual anxieties, and by the time his lips were against Yu's, the butterflies tickling him felt more like warm butter and eased a dull ache inside of him that he hadn't even realized existed.
He had sighed softly, and his eyes closed; he didn't want Yu to draw his hand away. In a thousand fairy tale kisses, he didn't think any of them had been written as nicely as this one felt.
"A decent start?" he repeated, a bit dumbfounded that Yu could even question such a thing. "...If only everyone should be so lucky to experience a kiss like that. Either my medicine has just kicked in at this very second, or your kiss was so wonderful that my body's forgotten how to hurt."

Yu made a small sound in the back of his throat, a little bit like a squeak, and a little like a small startled animal, the blush spreading quickly from his ears and across his face, down his neck. “Probably the medicine.” He murmured ducking his head. “But, I appreciate the vote of confidence!” He added not wanting to insult such a compliment no matter how undeserved. “That or um… you’re just that good, and you ah.. You just forgot…and uh… you needed a partner to remind you. I think that would make sense.” He offered a watery grin. “Yay for not…hurting though? That’s always a bonus, Nothing should hurt unless you want it…to….” He trailed off realizing that that implied a lot more than he’d intended it to and hastily added. “Uh…like tattoos…” If he could have blushed more, he would have.

Priam couldn't help but laugh, and it seemed like a little more of his embarrassment peeled away. "Ah, I see how it is," he said, almost knowingly. He was amused, relieved, but not at all judgmental. The smile on his face spread, and he gave Yu's hand another little squeeze.
"I don't have tattoos. But maybe I'll show you my piercings sometime." He knew what he said. He knew what he meant. He kept his hand on Yu's as he he began to rise, using him to help steady himself as he pried himself out of the chair. "I'm going to go make myself comfortable on the couch, you should get that brush and join me in a minute."
He took the paper plates their meals had been presented on, and made his way to the trash, seeming in a better mood than before.
It was hard to be embarrassed when Yu was so red, when he was every bit out of his element as Priam was. But it wasn't bad. Priam found that he wasn't thinking less of himself, he wasn't doubting himself. He was just learning about Yu.
And, probably, realizing that he was falling in love with him.

“Piercings? s**t, I’ve only ever done my ears… now I’m curious.” He said with a grin now, his face felt so hot but it was good, there was a warm feeling that came with these moments. “I’m sort of looking forward to learning about that. Maybe if I can afford one I’ll make you go with me to get some done, since early you have bigger balls than me.” He ducked his head still half laughing and half blushing. “If you’d be ok with that I mean, I should have figured you’d be good with needles. Ironically they still sorta freak me out.” He admitted “Still plan on more tattoos eventually though. For you know, the irony.” He grinned.

The blush across Yu's cheeks was an image Priam hoped he could sear into his brain; his smile was infectious, and his laugh eased any chance of knots in his stomach. Priam's heart was even settling into a steady, complacent pace.
"I'll go with you," he promised. "I'm not an expert by any means. But I can at least make sure you're in a sterile environment. It's quick. Mine was, at least. The healing takes a while. But, I can help you take care of them. If you want, I'm not going to just put my hands all over you and demand to look at them to make sure they're healing."
He paused on his way to the couch and looked at Yu thoughtfully. "Unless you want me to. But you have time to figure that out," he assured, smile still in place.

“I’ll probably be able to say better after I get them.” Yu Admitted. “… sorta pondering tongue but… I admit there are ulterior motives for that.” His grin was full-on sheepish at the admission. “I have no idea if that even works the way that they like to imply but uh… can’t…hurt right?” “Depending on how things go, other kinds of laying on of hands may be negotiable.” He added with the heavy teasing air.

Priam just smiled again when Yu said it. "As long as it's for you," he insisted. "Then, there's no bad choices. I got mine for someone else. I never would have gone for myself. But, as it turns out."
He pursed his lips, somewhat contemplative.
"They're not really all that bad. And I learned a lot about myself in the process. Which. I've never actually talked about with anyone about, so that's completely new territory for me." He'd never actually thought it would be a conversation he would have, he just sort of assumed he'd heal up and forget about everything, and live an unfairly long life and die alone.
This was infinitely nicer, even with the broken bones and bruises.
He carefully lowered himself onto the couch and leaned back, relaxing. "But I'll always support you, as long as it makes you happy, and isn't completely unhealthy. Or dangerous."
