Advocating For: The oceans/rivers/lakes/etc, our water!
What's Your Plan?: The biggest thing is recycling and reducing use of single-use plastics (straws, packaging, etc...) Obviously we're already working towards the straw thing with reusable metal straws and paper straws, but those of us that make/sell things online should really consider the packaging and shipping we use. Look into bio-degradable packaging options, recycling cardboard, reusing small plastic bags and what not...stop letting it destroy our various water sources (and beautiful critters.)

Advocating For: Removing Greenhouse gases from the air
What's Your Plan?: Well, one of the best ways to do this is to stop eating meat! Or at least so much meat and the type of meat too. For example, cutting back or cutting out Beef and Pork which are some of the largest contributes. Also, instead of eating meat every day or for every meal, only have it a few times a week instead! I'm trying to be better at it myself, though it is a bit hard with the diet I have to follow for now and it's quite easy and convenient, but I have switched to pretty much just Chicken and Turkey!

Advocating For: Climate change!
What's Your Plan?: SO MUCH. I literally study this and it’s my job, but a large portion of emissions are mobile so reducing use of personal vehicles is a must. This means I try to take public transportation as much as feasible. Not to mention, the transition into electric vehicles (Which isn’t free of emissions) is also a big deal as I bought my first electric plug-in hybrid this summer. Reduction of electricity use (mostly A/C) during peak hours (usually 4-9PM) as well helps reduce use of peaker natural gas plants. Also depending on the area, when I choose to charge my car matters as well! In most states, overnight charging is fine if in a nuclear power heavy state or during the day in a state with a large solar potential. But if you live in primarily in the Midwest of the US, hybrids are actually better for the environment than electric vehicles. (I can go on forever.)

Advocating For: Snow Leopard
What's Your Plan?: Snow Leopards are endangered due to poaching and habitat destruction. The least that can be done is to deal a hefty blow to the trade market in poaching. Hit the poachers where it hurts by imposing stricter laws and enforcing them and, if possible, create task forces that have a greater presence in the areas in which these animals live. Habitat destruction should be minimized by requiring citizens and corporations to work around remaining habitats.

Advocating For: Florida Panther [puma concolor coryi]
What's Your Plan?: The main concerns for the Florida Panther are loss of habitat and being struck by motorists as they attempt to cross roads. But one of the biggest things about helping conserve the Florida Panthers is that they are an umbrella species. Because they require so much land, preserving and protecting them, in turn protects many other plants and animals.

One of the things Florida Panther conservation needs is awareness. For all that most people have heard of them, few know that they are one of the most endangered large mammals in the world. There are thought to be only around 200 in the wild.

One way to help raise awareness would be to put up trail cameras in areas populated by the Florida Panthers, creating a 'panther-cam' website where people could watch video live and clips of the cats themselves as they learn about the Florida Panther. Designing cute panther pictures to be used for stickers, t-shirts, and mugs to sell could help raise money for the conservation effort and increase awareness.

Advocating For: Sea Turtles

What's Your Plan?: I think by making sure my family uses less plastic objects and properly recycling it can benefit them more. Also by cleaning up waste I see on the beach on in the waters in our rivers will lead to less waste flowing in to our oceans. Taking care on beaches that are designated mating grounds for sea turtles and not disturbing the sands/nest will also help lower the mortality rate of the eggs.

Advocating For: Amur Leopard
What's Your Plan?: These poor Leopards, among many other endangered wildlife are being poached and sold for illegal trade. While I can't do much physically, I know I can do verbally, and showing links and places one can donate to the cause of any and every endangered species. As for the Leopard. I've done my part with Build a bear on multiple occasions while buying the plus, part of the proceeds went towards protecting these beautiful and lovely animals. Doesn't hurt to check the place out if you wish to help or go to the WWF for more information on how you can try to help take part in saving these lovely creatures.

Advocating For: Sea otters (threatened)
What's Your Plan?: Actually remember to use my reusable bags. Plastic is well known to pollute our oceans. Reusing items instead of wasting. More plastic should help there to be less plastic waste. Less waste means less plastic going into our oceans, which helps with the environment for sea otters.

What's Your Plan?: This is nothing major, but we've been trying to provide fresh water resources for creatures outside. We have several frogs in the area and a colony of lizards that take advantage along with birds. It's boiling out, so any water left out to help the little creatures can be life saving.

Advocating For: Recycling carbon footprint
What's Your Plan?: I try to keep as many recycling materials as possible to turn in to DIY toys, such as left over boxes for tunnels or treasure boxes and painting jar lids to look like pirate booty. We turn a lot of the recycling in to small world play settings or accessories for imaginative play. I also tend to buy bath and beauty products from eco friendly stores.

Advocating For: Black Rhino
What's Your Plan?: Rhinos have been hunted for years for their prized horn. We have already lost one species of Rhino from this, and it breaks my heart. The best thing to do is educate and fight against poachers that are hunting these marvelous creatures down. So many non profit facilities are in place already working to help these gentle giants.

Advocating For: Oregon Silverspot Butterfly
What's Your Plan?: These butterflies live in the coastal grasslands near the Pacific, relying on the early blue violet flower to complete it's life cycle. Once plentiful, these butterflies have been reduced to four populations along the Oregon coast due to habitat loss and degradation. The Oregon Zoo actively rears and releases these butterflies, through growing their own early blue violets, and I believe planting early blue violets in butterfly territories would greatly help these butterflies begin to rebuild their numbers in the wild.

What's Your Plan?: Educate people on what captive bred and wildcaught mean when buying a bird from a petstore. I take Kuzco (my conure) out to help with talking about the illegal wild bird trade happening undernethe our noses. Also please donate if you are a bird lover to rescue organizations and antipoaching efforts to keep the Grey Parrot in the wild. They are cute and smart but a captive born bird will be such a better companion than a bird ripped from its home and stuck in a cage.

Advocating For: Local Ecosystem
What's Your Plan?: The lake here gets in bad shape during the summer. The public beaches in particular need cleaning quite often to keep animals from picking up garbage to eat or use for nesting, as well as to keep people from stepping on glass. Cleaning out the swimming areas as well would do a lot of good. (It's much harder to clean up the rest of the lake without considerable help since it gets deep very quickly.)
