Sierra had been arrived very early and picked out herself a spot on the top of the last carriage after a brief exploration of the bottom interior. Not wanting to make a sight of herself she grabbed a blanket and tucked it about herself and lay down, relaxing her body so her mind could wander a bit. It had been awhile since she’d been out among the public. The Family had decided it was time she get some face time to keep her public identity alive. So she’d found herself at loose ends of what to do when she’d seen the ad. She signed up. Not only was this a great opportunity for her persona it was a chance to use her skills. Carefully of course.
So laying on top, appearing to be asleep she passed the first while of the ride. Her senses were active, with her hearing she could hear all the conversations passing in the carriage below her. She made quick assesments of those below and took the time to get into character. Once she was ready she grabbed her smaller kit- er… bag- the rest safely stowed with luggage, grabbed the tin and made her entrance.
Sierra Raylene descended the stairs and entered below. Her eyes roved around the people quickly fitting voices with faces She noted the face of the Medical Dr, the archeologist and paused briefly on Eir ever so slightly suprised by the fighter.. “Well howdy there everyone! I was so excited to come on this journey that I didn’t sleep a wink last night. I must’ve been more tired than I knew because I fell asleep up top just plum tuckered out.” She flushed slightly. “ But there is no reason I can’t share the fruits of my sleepless night with all of you! “She opened the large tin she’d been carrying and the smell of freshly baked cookies filled the interior. “Would anyone like one?”

Eir thought about what Devon said. Sure, they were going to be traveling for a week... but she figured when she was tired of being cramped inside here, she'd go up top and train, or sit somewhere and meditate. Ah well. Eir looked at Jin, wondering. "So... why are you on the trip?" The things he studied didn't sound useful, but maybe she was missing something.
"You know, I thought they didn't want students along." Eir looked at Amity. Everyone had to have graduated the academy. The idea of university had never even crossed her mind. "So it makes sense there wouldn't be kids here." Though as soon as she said that, she thought about it. These guys were professionals. They'd spent years studying and perfecting their crafts... they were all likely older then she was. Oh no! SHE was the kid here!
"But don't worry. I'll do my best to make sure nothing bad happens to anyone on this trip. It's my sworn duty to protect-" She paused when she heard footsteps approaching. As the door leading to the outside of the carriage opened, Eir had leaped onto the back of the seat, drawing a dagger from where it rested against her thigh as a blue grimm entered. But, the female offered them cookies, and she was so... bright; so cheerful. Eir practically fell off the seat with the next bump in the road. "UGH!" This had to be exactly what her master was talking about! She needed to slow down and think, not simply react. Eir flopped onto her back in the middle of the aisle as she sheathed the dagger once again.

Latros' eyes dart about as the convoy travels, not seeing anything of interest, but also seeming to be interested in everything. They had never seen much of Above, and this was a pretty good start to an adventure!
A noise comes from the ladder, and their giant ears perk up as they turn to see who is joining the two of them.

Amity looked over at Tabi, grinning a little. "Nothing that interesting." She held the book up, shrugging a shoulder. "I picked up a book of myths about the Above, to see if there was anything about this place we're going. No such luck, but it's a good read anyway..." Even if some of it was definitely questionable... "You can give it a look if you want to." She added with a smile, sinking back against her seat.
Amity nodded at Eir, and grinned a little at the proclamation. "That's your job, then? I just signed up to be support, whatever needs to be done sort of thing..." She trailed off when the door to the top of the carriage opened, and waved a hand at the new compartment companion. "Hey, you haven't missed too much--" The bump jostled Amity and she quickly grabbed her bag and book to avoid them falling, looking over at Eir.
"You alright?" She tucked her bag under the seat and her book next to her. She didn't expect smooth sailing, but it'd be a shame if anyone got a bump on the way there.
Maarika had clambered aboard the bus after stowing her belongings, and had stood for a moment, considering the options on where to sit, for a minute or two. That was when she noticed the ladder to the roof, and her decision was instantly made... Why risk her antlers catching on the ceiling when there was a ROOF to hang out on?
As such, Latros' first view of who was emerging would be her yellow antlers with their brown balls tucked into them, followed by all of the rest of her glorious self. She was wearing a tight tank top and short shorts for this, the closest she would ever likely come to 'appropriate for an expedition' clothing, along with a pair of mismatched earrings... She'd made them herself, and one was enchanted to protect her from bugs, sunburn and the like, the other to keep her at a comfy temperature. She was a resourceful girl, after all.
She noticed the person looking at her, and could not resist winking and walking over. "Hello there, handsome. Decided to get the best view on the bus, huh?" Her tone was flirty, and the way she said that last bit, it was left up to anyone's imagination whether she was trying to suggest the view was of her emerging... Or the view over the railing that the person she spoke to had snagged.

"Fascinating, I had read a bit about the Swirling Sands area. Would you mind telling us some stories about your tours? To help pass the time?" It would a great to hear more about the area and certainly would be entertaining.
Jin paused surprised and smiled up at the Kumiho that just joined them. "Thank you, fresh food is always appreciated." He took a cookie and paused looking at Eir. "Experience," he said dryly. He might be new but he would managed.
"Though I really don't think you need to use a knife to pick up a cookie," He added.

Last Carriage roll call (Jin/Eir/Devon/Tabi/ More to add without tripple quoting people)
- - - - - - Having taken to closing their eyes and enjoying the sway of the carriage next to their twin, it was a surprise that Lycos could even notice that anyone else would make their way up. So close were they to their twin, that they felt their ears perk. and, in response, so did their own as they leaned over to try and get a look, as well.
Their expression was curious, though wary. Honestly, they hadn't expected so many people to pile in on the first carriage, since in classrooms they noticed that...most people wanted the back.
"We're gonna see things first before anyone." Lycos tilted their head, a tongue sneaking out to run along their fangs as all eight of their eyes blinked...separately. "So we're gonna find things before anyone else!"

Troy had an idea of where they could start but before rushing ahead, it was probably best to speak with Miss Honeymint first and discuss plans. The carriage had filled up more than he had recalled and was harder to navigate around others more than he had anticipated. He was polite as he tried to skirt between and around those who were chatting, apologizing for interrupting as he went. The naiad clearly wasn't paying attention to what was happening behind him because suddenly he felt someone push against him and cause him to stumble forward. "Ah! Who in the..?" He turned around and came face to face with the fae that was trying to make her way up to the front as well. "Oh...pardon me, are you trying to go talk to Miss Honeymint as well?" Troy regained his composure with a light smile as he addressed her.

Devon nodded along as Dr Ketzal and Jin spoke about their fields of study. It was nice that there were other well studied people around. Professor Honeymint had obviously put out a wide net to get so many people here- it seemed to make sense. Having people who knew so much about field work.. well, hopefully it would help find the missing professor faster.
They strummed their fingers on the cover of their book as the topic turned back to reading. "A bit earlier, I was actually thinking of ways to set up a book trade. We are all going to be here for a while, It might help alleviate some of the boredom that is very likely to occur." They nodded, hoping that their idea sounded half a decent to the others as it did in their head.
Their eyes flicked up as a blue grimm stepped into the carriage from the upper floor, and back down as Eir stood up and feel as they hit a bump in the road. The glanced over her, quickly trying to determine if she had injured herself in her fall. She seemed alright, at least. They set their book down on the floor next to their feet before offering Eir a hand. "I do not recommend quick movements in a moving vehicle. It is much more difficult to maintain balance.

Ligeia - Middle(?) Carriage
Ligeia had made a point to arrive early to the departure point. Her main goal had been mostly to claim her choice of seating, establish herself there. After all, since she was going to spend a week cooped up in a carriage with a bunch of strangers, she wanted to at least claim a window. The hallowed hybrid opted for a middle carriage and was pleased to find a spot in the back with a window to set up in. Ligeia had nestled in, leaning against the window and curling up low in her seat, one foot propped up on her bag, making herself right at home. Producing a book and her earbuds, the hybrid lost herself in her reading until after a while of the convoy being on the road.
In time, the woman's muscles were feeling cramped up from her odd curled up position. Rising to her feet and stretching all of her limbs to their full extent, Ligeia sighed, blinking around at the various other passengers of the carriage. Quite some variety among her fellow passengers. Stepping into the middle aisle for a bit more wiggle room, she shook out a few more kinks as she started toward the kitchenette. Her advance was slow, partially for making her way through conversations, partially from her curiously getting a bet view of her fellow riders. A redheaded kumiho appeared lost in a book of her own, a romance novel if Ligeia's skimming was correct. She gently tapped the daydreamer and offered small smile, as minimally toothy as she could manage. "I've heard of that series. Been thinking about picking it up. You'll have to let me know what you think of it."
Some were still getting settled, some were chatting. A thought came to her, a chance to maybe open a door with those she was sharing this leg of the trip with. Clearing her throat, she raised her voice above the conversational whisper she had directed to the reader. "I'm going to get some tea. Would anyone like any drinks or something to snack on since I'll be scrounging about? I don't mind. Might as well, since I'm heading that way," Ligeia finished her offer in a tempting sing song.
If any of y'all don't fancy being in the/a middle carriage (or are elsewhere and I've missed reading your character's location) or don't want to be bothered by this gal, drop me a PM here, or quote me in the shop thread, or hit me up in Discord and I'll be happy to edit my post for ya!

As Sierra offered the cookies several things happened in quick succession. Eir pulled out a dagger, Sierra paled and dropped the lid to the cookie tin as her hand went to her throat in apparent fear to touch the pendant hanging there. *its just a rookie* she reassured herself *someone jumpy and new to the arts, just play it cool Sierra* she chided.
The tin lid made a sound like a gong as it fell and Sierra used the bump to put some distance between her and the dagger wielder. “Oh! Bless your heart! Using a knife for a cookie indeed~, gave me quite the fright!” She moved her hand quickly from the pendant to fanning herself. She watched as they sheathed the dagger- and her attention turned to the hybrid- Jin? was the name? And the comment they made regarding experience, this was someone she’d need to keep an eye on. She flashed a wobbily smile at them as she nearly swooned into an empty seat. Watching the Dr help the young warrior up she noted his calm demeanor.
Looking down into the cookie tin she reached in and delicately picked up a soft warm chocolate chip cookie and took a bite to allow the excitement time to fade and see what transpires.

Every time the hybrid across from her relaxed, Clare's posture seemed to straighten in response. Her eyes often drifted over Cyan, before quickly looking away in the distance, nervously hoping to lock eyes with someone else. Sure, Chris and her were having... troubles, but she shouldn't... well... With a small cough, her mind returned to their conversation."Honestly, Marie didn't seem the type to care all too much about confidentiality,"she said with a laugh, although she had found the chimera's attitude more frustrating than humorous at the time. Clare smiled at Cyan's wink, and watched with interest as she sat up. It was amazing how fast and comfortable she had seemed to have oozed into the seat, Clare wasn't sure she'd ever bother getting up again.
At the mention of food, Clare's smile turned wry. She had packed plenty of food for the trip, of course, but they really didn't know how long they'd be away - it was important to ration. Of course, mentioning rations at all could send people into a panic. What if they rioted or mutinied? Mind swirling with anxious scenarios once more, she smiled nervously at Cyan."I could go for some tea and cake, personally,"she suggested merrily, clasping her hands together as she suddenly stood up."I was already thinking of making a cuppa, and the petit fours Missy made for me would go perfectly!"She gestured for Cyan to follow her as she led the two of them into the kitchenette, not even noticing the two who had been trying to find her as she hurried by. She could see this area getting crowded in the days to come, so she filled up the kettle and began to let it boil as quickly as possible."How does chocolate chai tea sound? With honeycomb and dark chocolate eclairs, of course,"she trilled, her tail perking up at the mention of food.

Large ears flopped over slightly as they tilted their head, first at their twin, baring their teeth playfully. For a moment they thought of calling them out for snoozing already, but thought it would be best saved for later.
Turning their attention and head tilt towards the newcomer, their ears flopped the other way, perhaps on purpose at this point, as they joined with their twin's gaze. Their eyes also blinked in sequence, but reversed. It wasn't quite clear if this was rehearsed or coincidence though.
"Yeah! The deer lady said she would give us degrees if we found the guy first!" They puffed a bit of hair out of their face, as if thinking. "I'm gonna trade mine in for a haircut."

Eventually the carriage started filling in and more people entered. Well she was getting her wish of working on her people skills. Still she was a bit startled when she was asked about drinks. It seemed as if some one else had the same idea about making drinks. So in the future that was a good ice breaker. “Well if it really isn’t too much trouble, tea would be nice if they have any fruit teas” oíche spoke up politely before quickly looking over the other members of the carriage. Hopefully they would all get along for the rest of the trip. It would be kind of suffocating if none of their personalities matched, but she Had books she had downloaded to read just in case. Oh wait... manners. She forgot manners. “Thank you for offering”
Maarika looked between the two, amused. "You're going to trade a degree for a haircut? I am pretty sure degrees are not usable in that fashion, to be honest." She moved forwards, her curvy rump swaying as she leaned forwards onto the railing, just to the side of them. She watched the world moving past as she considered what to say next.
"Degrees have other uses, like showing you have education in a specific field, which can make it easier to get a job." She shrugged a little, wondering if this unusual but adorable pair had a clear understanding of how the education system they had to have completed the basics of, since they were on this bus, worked. They certainly seemed a little confused about things, but who knew?
"And being at the front doesn't always mean you'll see something first... Sometimes something peeks out from the side, after the front has passed."
