A new day a new disturbance within the village. Part of Coda pined for a return to her old village, where things just went the same way every day. It was boring as s**t, but that boredom also mean ninja weren't swarming around like a plague of rats. Rats was maybe a bit harsh in general, but it accurately described the people who had done what she was now tasked with investigating. [ Investigate Crime Scene: Petty | 1/6 ]
"They took all the valuable stuff and then- and then they set bombs all over the place!" The warehouse worker shouted in response to Coda's questioning. She got it, though, and let the man be mad for a minute. Sometimes you just need to vent, the person you vented to or at didn't really matter. "Don't worry, I'm good at dealing with bombs. I'll make sure the building isn't damaged much." [ Investigate Crime Scene: Petty | 2/6 ]
A short line of questioning later and Coda had essentially deduced what had happened during the robbery. "Do me a favor and get the village a copy of your inventory logs, okay? Should help us figure out everything." Armed men, or men who wanted the workers in the area to think they were armed, showed up in the early morning during the guards' shift change. Stole something valuable, and then rigged the place to blow the second anything got moved - breaking the lights on the way out. [ Investigate Crime Scene: Petty | 3/6 ]
It seemed fairly likely that the thieves plot was for someone to show up and move something, detonating the bombs and destroying what was in the warehouse. It wasn't the worse idea, but it also wasn't like the village was lacking in investigators that could piece that stuff back together. It would be more likely that this being a civilian warehouse would place such an intensive investigation low down on the village's list of important things to investigate - even if someone got hurt in the process. There was still a good chance that this would be made relatively low priority. Followup done by someone like Coda with less experience, and almost certainly less care. Still, there was no chance that they'd end up finding out who essentially tried to kill the people in the warehouse if she didn't get to work. It was time to catalogue every detail she could without disturbing the scene. [ Investigate Crime Scene: Petty | 5/6 ]
Everything was fair game in Coda's mind. The more stuff she could pack into the report, the harder it'd be to ignore when it came time to decide between cases that needed chasing. She got estimates of the gauge of the trigger wire on the bombs, their overall yield and number. She got photos of the damaged caused when the thieves broke in, both to the door and other items in the warehouse. Obvious disturbances of the normal way of things around the warehouse, and statements from everyone within a two block radius that was around when it happened. She hoped it'd be enough for someone to actually bother following up. [ Investigate Crime Scene: Petty | 6/6 ]
Crime scene investigated, it was time for the explosive traps to be dealt with. There were three, placed, fortunately, among the items in the warehouse. The goal was to destroy the items and not the building, which meant she could detonate them in place with little worry. [ Trap Disposal | 1/3 ]
The first was close to the entrance, and disposing of it would allow for safe passage into the warehouse. The method was something that, most likely, only Coda could produce. One of her hands raised in a sweeping motion and a rubbery substance seeped over the surface of the bomb, carefully avoiding its trip wires. Another sweep and concrete covered it all. The final part was a bit tricky. Secured in place by the concrete, the ends of the trip wires could be cut, isolating the device. Following that Coda focused, causing lava to well up under the device. A moment later a very dull thud echoed through the warehouse. Her plan had worked. The rubber had dissipated enough of the force that the concrete only cracked a little. [ Trap Disposal | 3/3 ]
It was a shame they wouldn't be able to obtain an intact bomb, but there was little to be done in service of removing the devices. While they were essentially tightly packed balls of explosive tags, they had flat bottoms that were then fixed to the ground in some manner. It was far too dangerous to go prying at them, though. Coda set to work on the second of the three bombs. The process was identical to the second, aside from needing to move a few things out of the way. Two layers to isolate the bomb and prevent the destruction of property and livelihood. Such a simple solution. [ Trap Disposal | 2/3 ]
Once again a dull thud bounced through the warehouse, this time with less people worriedly sticking their head in to make sure no one died. Coda honestly didn't care if the mini-tyrant who owned the warehouse was happy that her lava appeared to prevent excess scorching of the warehouse floor. That said, it was still a preferable result. Less for him to blame his workers for. [ Trap Disposal | 3/3 ]
Two down and one to go. Coda had to pause for a moment and admire the simple ingenuity of the device she was about to destroy. A decidedly clever use of easily obtainable, and normally weak, explosive tags. The wires were simply looped through a few of the tags. Walk through the wire, peel the tag up, detonate the whole thing. [ Trap Disposal | 1/3 ]
The young woman stared at the device for a moment longer before sweeping her hands over it. Encased, the threat to the people in the building was entirely contained. The only thing remaining was to detonate it, destroying the only thing left that could hurt them. [ Trap Disposal | 2/3 ]
Coda carefully clipped the trip wires free, and then created lava under the little dome one last time. This time the echo brought no curiosity, and she set about cleaning up the last mess left by her process. Easy enough, considering the explosions had all separated the concrete domes from the floor. She quickly smoothed over the rough spots created by her jutsu and headed out of the building. [ Trap Disposal | 3/3 ]
Now came the fun part, sitting around. There was almost no chance that any other thieves were going to come by. The area was far too hot for anyone with a brain to consider trying anything nearby, let alone in the warehouse itself. But, the Mini-Musolini of this particular business was demanding someone stand watch because he'd sent all his workers home and the doors were broken. [ Security II | 1/4 ]
Coda begrudgingly agreed, if only to abate the increasingly irate man and prevent his anger from being turned into a crusade against people who didn't deserve it. What was an hour of her time in exchange for the well-being of someone else, after all? Still, she was starting to get an idea of why the warehouse was hit to begin with. [ Security II | 2/4 ]
There were plenty of other places with more valuable stuff in the area than a general goods warehouse that belonged to a mid-sized merchant venture. Coda for one, was slightly glad that merchant was pulling his hair out, since it seemed likely that he got robbed more for being an a*****e than for having something exceptionally valuable. If the goal was to upset him more than obtain value, it'd certainly worked. [ Security II | 3/4 ]
Coda's time as a glorified security guard came to a close with the owner of the warehouse all but dragging some hapless craftsman over. Based on what she overheard, he had been working another job when this man came storming in. Demanding attention and promising to double the rate if he came immediately, the worker had little choice. "At least he's getting extra for putting up with that jackass." Coda thought to herself as she headed on her way. [ Security II | 4/4 ]
A girl in a black jacket and two different headbands shunshined onto a rooftop of the Industrial Quarter, only to be met by a scene of fiery destruction. Seemed everyone like blowing s**t up around here. Coda's eyes settled on what must have been the perpetrator, more annoyed than angry. At least this place was full of sparsely populated buildings and money grubbing assholes. "Look, I'm all for knocking the small-business tyrants down a peg. They're assholes, they pay their employees like s**t, yada yada yada yada. But I still need you to stop." She called out, well aware that there was almost no chance the halfhearted call for cessation would actually result in an end to the explosions. But there was a chance it would at least send this person scrambling back to the rest of their cohorts. A minuscule one, but still a chance. Plus, who opened a fight flinging jutsu around anyways?
Somehow amidst a myriad of explosions occuring all over the Quarter, Coda happened upon the figure that was behind it all, holding onto what looked like a giant scroll with a blade down one side, and about a billion paper tags fluttering down all around her. She turned to look at him over her shoulder, smiling with bright, big yellow eyes rife with a kind of insanity one could only imagine existing in the mind of a demon. Lips, painted black, curled up into a smile, long blue braids on either side of her head blowing in the wind. "Nah uh uh. Not another word. Take another step or speak again and I don't think you'll like the result." She teased with her tone, but to experiment with how serious she was, a single seal was made and an explosion, far off in the distance, caused the ground to rumble. "I think that was a hot spring. I sure hope that dude who runs it wasn't in there anymore. Or... maybe he was a girl. Whatever." The threat was implicit, the goal explicit. A prisoners dilemna.
One where she really wasn't even in any danger.
"What's your name?" she asked after only seconds of silence.
Coda dragged her hand across her face with an exasperated sigh. The act said crazy but the mouth said stupid. "In order to set up what you're trying to set up, you need to actually present options, dumbass." She added in an annoyed tone as she raised her hands to make a seal. Black seeped down her hands and across her face, before shifting into a substance similar in appearance to the metal of the two headbands she wore, but slightly less shiny. The assailant would find little patience for games played with innocent lives, or the implication of such, in Coda. At the very least, you'd need to be a bit clever about it. Threaten the village's shinobi, and the genin might even be convinced to sympathize. Normal people though? Nah. With a little hop Coda kicked up into a short sprint before leaping into the air, launching herself towards the attacker. Her hips twisted at the last second bring her heel around for a powerful dropping kick.

tabFerrah flew through the air on her gust of wind. Finding where the intruder was easy, all she had to do was follow the trail of destruction. Along with her handy dandy Sakkakugan to track their life forces of course. What she WAS surprised to find was her newly signed apprentice squaring off against. Well this just isn't going to do at all. Although.. This could be a excellent test to make sure I didn't choose poorly. Burning red eyes already at work and stringing to together her chakra, Ferrah swiftly pieced together a genjutsu on Coda in such a way that as soon as her opponent laid eyes on her they would find themselves frozen in place. Once this was completed to her satisfaction Ferrah took in a deep gust of wind before blowing out four concentrated bullets of Fuuton chakra. These piercing wind spheres would find there mark the moment Coda finished her kick, cutting through the intruder's body at a diagonal line.

Coda's frustration was clear, but to lil Explosiva that didn't really mean much. In the seconds between her speaking and the metal rising over her skin another explosion went off. "I did give you options! You were supposed to shut up and stay still, or I'd blow something up. I think that one was in the residential district of this godawful place." As she muttered she did become aware of him flinging himself at her, and the moment she looked upon him her body was frozen, unable to move at all. The unfortunately well timed genjutsu kept her from enacting a defense, and instead the moments where she would have been able to counterattack she was forced to lie in wait as the genin launched her genjutsu.
Sad story for her, though, that this was simply a lifelike doll. The explosion occurred just before the foot made contact, scattering smoke and dust alike all about the area. Coda, too, would be sent flying even though the armor would significantly dampen the damage done, and off the roof they were occupying she would go probably no worse for wear, but smarter than diving headfirst at a target again. Laughter echoed out again, less ominous and with a definite origin point this time. High up in the air, uncomfortably high for her actually, the real assailant, holding the actual Shibuki over her shoulder, taunted down at Lahill. "Hey! What'd you do to my body double that she couldn't move like that?" she asked. If she cared to look, the sight of a rather large dragon would greet her, already absorbing pieces of it's own tail and seemingly regurgitating them if the distention in it's throat was any indicator. A hail of mines came falling from the sky as it stretched open it's maw, clearly all of them live bombs if her previous acts were any indication, and she stood proud, giving a hearty swing of her weapon as well, which sent several hundred explosive tags also raining down in a spiral that might encompass the whole district. It wouldn't be a full on murder party, but it would certainly cause a lot of harm and casualties if allowed to go off.

Foot met target, but the result was not a crushing impact from the attack, but one directed back. Coda careened off the roof and through a balcony on an adjacent building. She had to take a moment to pull the Leaf headband that had been around her neck off her face as she checked to make sure everything was still in the right place. Thankfully, though she was decidedly less metallic than before, she was mostly unharmed. That would've been fine, if it didn't become clear upon extricating herself from the fight that this was the worst possible match up she could have ended up in. In hindsight, Ferrah's arrival and the many explosives falling from the sky suggested that taking time to learn how to summon one of those bats probably would have been a good idea. Coda could scrap with the best of them, but her range was lacking at the moment. About all she could do was help deal with the stuff dropping right on top of them.
Raising her hands up to her side, Coda pushed them out to the side and expelled a stream of lava from her mouth as she did so. It'd spread out into a big blanket of lava, which would hopefully be enough to disrupt whatever the falling things were. "Get her to ground!" The genin called up to her newly arrived compatriot, not quite knowing what else to do at the moment. If Ferrah could pull it off, they could end this before too much damage was done. Plus, Coda'd have some fun breaking this moron's arms for trying to hurt normal people, or even pretending.
tabWhen the woman went down but the bombs didn't stop Ferrah snarled. Searching frantically with herΒ crimson eyes on the for whatever she had missed, it was the voice calling from above that alerted her. Flipping in the air she met with the sight of a large dragon and.. smiled. Here her opponent was. In the air all alone with her and couldn't even fly on her own? Tsk tsk. And all I have to do is- Her thought was interuptted by the several hundred explosive tags fluttering down with a mini version of the dragon being launched at her. Oh well nevermind then. As the mini dragon flew into her, Ferrah's body ripped apart at the last second into thousands of tiny bats all scattering into different directions but they themselves faded.
Now appearing just above her adversary she took in as deep a breathe as she could and thrn brought doen her fist into her stomach. The result was a deadly blast of fuuton chakra meant to either outright explode the dragons beneath or force them to crash land into the lava below. As for the bomb tags.. well Ferrah would just have to hope that her wind push them into the lava as well and that Coda was up to the task. In preperation for the explosion her skin turned a shade of gold.

The blanket of lava more than did it's job disabling most of the falling tags, and the ones that weren't simply survived ebcause of the wind blowing them around. They would serve purpose only to explode and clash with the tags as well as the mines that were caught more thoroughly and blown up only as a way to clear out the tags. Ferrah's disappearance caused the dragon dive bombing on her only to find no target and crash into the roof like an idiot. Instincts served seasoned ninja well, and something disappearing like that meant that she was likely about to be attacked from an angle not covered by her current view. She turned behind her, then looked up, seeing the woman. Such a high powered technique so soon? How lovely! But it wouldn't deter the girl, who weaved together one handed seals while still holding onto her weapon dearly. The expulsion of flame from her mouth was a small ball that erupted into a wild, raging ball of flame the moment it hit the drill, creating a wide, wildly bright and hot inferno for several seconds before it detonated. As for the clay dragon that had failed to hit her before, it took wing once more, and flew directly towards Coda, seeking to ram it's body down into the girl and then detonate. If she weren't careful that would spell her doom on it's own.
And as for the dragon she rode upon, the woman simply directed it to start flying away from Lahill while it absorbed another section of tail, coughing to life another large dragon a few seconds later, which immediately, also began flying towards her.

This had to stop, it was just getting ridiculous at this point. It was Coda's turn to fly, and she'd gotten a gift to that end. No doubt this dumb dragon was going to explode like everything else the woman with the sword dished out. There was little subtlety to this style of fighting, but that presented room to work with it. Coda's hands met, forming another seal, and her skin shifted back to metal once again. She pushed it as far as she could this time. They had a numbers advantage, but that just meant a savvy opponent would try to even the odds quickly. The one-woman demolition team might have been a moron, but she clearly wasn't incapable. What Coda was about to try was a gamble, but if it didn't work all she'd do was fall off a building or get hit by something she couldn't have stopped anyways. She bid her time, settling into a low stance, waiting for the dragon to close in. When it drew near she took her shot, vaulting forward and twisting to get her body over the dragon before it detonated. The explosion detonated a moment later, and Coda disappeared into a fireball.
The genin's vision came back into focus as she hurtled upwards out of the smoke. Her jacket flapped, tattered and smoldering as she righted a tumbling flight and found her target again. Handsign still held, her tattoos activated again, imbuing her with a gargantuan strength. She paired it as she closed the last bit of distance with fist-full of chakra. Coda was a freight train of malice, and if she had her way she break the woman and her shitty sword right in half. Hopefully, at the very least, she'd blast the damn dragon right out from under her. Blood, though. Blood was the goal.

Better be careful with the wind Even saying that Ferrah felt like this woman was just toying with her and that if she wanted she could have gone all out. Clearly she's wasn't mentally stable which felt like a joke coming from her. As the skies cleared up more Ferrah noticed two more dragons racing torwards both Coda and herself. Initially she was prepared to defend them both but when Coda used the blast to launch herself upwards at the dragon. Well she's certainly the crazy. What does she think to accomplish with the dragon still alive? Smiling mischievously Ferrah focused one brillant red eye on the dragon that the woman was riding on and forced reality itself to bend to her will. Not even a moment later would the clay dragon break apart into thousands of little bats that all fluttered in differdnt directions. All leaving the swordwoman to fall back down to the ground and coincidentally back into Coda. Ferrah's smile then vanished behind a hellscape of explosion as the dragon missile colliaded into her.

Far as nuts went, Coda had definitely taken the cake, and as our fair nutjob and her weapon, Shibuki, used the dragon's detonation as a springboard with which to go flying directly... towards her... and fast. She moved to prepare a response, and found, out of the clear blue, that her dragon was turning into a large, loud and annoying swarm of bats. Amid her falling she only had enough time to prepare herself with a single seal and an earth based defense that hardened her skin. She took the punch head on, realizing that even with her body's obnoxiously high amount of fortitude and the defense she had stacked upon her own body, she got her s**t absolutely ROCKED by that hit, and went flying more than a few blocks back, laughing on the inside, but finally silent on the outside. When she crashed into the ground she rolled over herself, blood welling up in her smiling mouth. "Well ********!" she spoke, letting go of Shibuki and rubbing the spot in her stomach where she'd been hit as the earthen defense... what was left, crumbled away. Mere minutes late to the scene, a group of VORTEX agents landed, stepping on the hand that went to regrab her weapon when she caught sight of them, and a litany of blades on her vitals. "Okay, okay you got me," she surrendered. "But I won't be telling you all a damn thing. I wanna meet that girl who just punched me. Go get HER and I'll tell ya where the other bombs are."

Coda got her own share of the impact, likely thanks to the fact that she'd punched into a defense. Though it was less than injury inducing, it felt like someone had just grabbed all the bones in her arm and shook them like a dog with a toy. She also, quite obviously, hadn't broken the attacker in half. To top it all off, she was now falling. Probably should have figured out that bit ahead of time. Finished learning how to summon the bats. A piece of jacket slapped her in the face as she fell for good measure, and she resigned herself to a rough landing. As she drew closer to the ground, her hands splayed out in front of her and a wave of rubbery material rose up from below, and she tumbled down from its crest, sliding to a stop in the streets between two of the buildings. "Someone owes me a jacket." She muttered under her breath as she examined the remains of black cloth and hauled herself back to her feet. Things were oddly quiet, all things considered. Coda had expected an explosion by the time she got back to the ground, but she heard nothing. No crazy shouting, no more exploding dragons, no more clouds of paper bombs. Surely the fighting wasn't over?
Keeping an eye out for trouble, but dropping her active techniques for the moment, Coda set off towards where she thought the woman would have landed. In the back of her head she was hoping she'd get there in time to bury the woman in a concrete grave. What she got was slightly disappointing. The fancy village jackboots were already doing their thing when she rounded the corner to the scene. She cursed under her breath at that revelation and settled into an annoyed looking pose. For her part, Coda didn't care why the woman had attacked. She didn't care about motive, or intent. She didn't care about anything a shinobi should have cared about. She was simply pissed off that this person who so willingly endangered normal people hadn't been snuffed out.
The intruder was still coughing... was that smoke..? out of her lungs when Coda rounded the corner. She was still rather pleased with herself, knowing what she knew, even if Shibuki had been officially confiscated from her. It wasn't like she was particularly attached to it but Jay and Jeon would likely be disappointed that she managed to lose it in the first place. When her eyes, pupils fully dialated, landed on Coda, her face twisted into a genuine smile. "Well aren't you just brave and foolhardy. Who taught you to punch like that?" she would ask still struggling against the feet pinning her hands, threatening the teeth on the insides of her palms. "Wait don't tell me. Was that... Oukasho? There's one pretending to be a clay pot in the window of an abandoned flower shop in the market. I hid one under one of those new houses no one has moved into in the residential district. It's a rat. It's probably in a wall or something by now. Somewhere in the Gully there is a clay fish swimming around with a school of actual fish too. Mid tier lightning jutsu should be enough to disarm them. Maybe send these toy soldiers to handle them so I can get a moment to breathe and we can have a round two?" One of the agents spoke then.
