Xenia ll 1

Xenia was aware that the Dretch had started being a problem a short time before she was born, but the details were all really fuzzy to her. All she knew was that anything that moved in shadows could be considered one, she was always supposed to be with someone, and that, like now, she couldn't so much as walk over to the big, weird guy with the white hair and ask him why his skin wasn't the same color it had been last night. She'd seen him, at the inn, with his family and they were all different colors now, but why-

She tugged on her mama's hand, but Taijana was holding strong. Xenia just frowned. Coming to a new place had sounded a lot cooler before today, but her mama really did look worried. The question was was it something to really be worried about, or not? It was hard to tell with her.

Shavas || Post 2

Shavas stared at the boy darkly for a long moment, her small face hardening and her eyes narrowing, "Yes, well, it is quite obvious, isn't it?" she snapped petulantly, a hard little edge to her voice.

She shifted her weight to the other hip and crossed her arms as she gazed at him, chewing the edge of her lip as her eyes scanned every inch of him from head to toe and caught her breath sharply at all his scars. "I was simply making conversation, but you're right, it was rather inane. So. What happened to you? You like like something chewed you up and spit you back out again." Shavas remarked with an arched brow.

She spoke automatically and without much forethought, her words sounded harsh, especially since a hint of her vexation flavored her voice, but she meant it as a compliment in her own strange way, the Yaeli looked tough, streetwise. Like he could take care of himself. Other boys she had known, mostly nobles and the sons of merchants, were always trying overly hard to be charming or witty. Always trying to say something to amuse or flatter her, it was exhausting, and rather boring. She certainly preened when she received their compliments, most of them were true enough after all, but she wasn't stupid enough to think that they meant all of them.

Shavas found she wasn't entirely sure how to take this prickly stranger. Oddly, once she got past her initial irritation, she found she liked being talked to like a person, rather than some sort of quarry, even if his tongue was as harsh as his appearance, and he hadn't really insulted her... Yet. She toyed with a lock of hair, curling and uncurling it around her finger as she continued to gaze at him with barely contained curiosity. Enough to override her temper, for the moment anyways.

She flicked her attention to the giant of a man accompanying the Yaeli, her eyes flickering impishly. He seemed so self composed and sure. She found herself wanting to see how easy it would be to throw him off balance. She tilted her head towards him and she introduced herself to the pair with her most disarming smile, "My name is Shavas." She swung around to stand with the three men, not bothering to wait for an invitation to join them. "You two seem rather familiar, how do you two know each other?"

Shierra post 2

Grinning as her brother encouraged the sneaky behavior, she hurried after him to get closer. Her eyes darted around, searching for anyone she might recognize, but there didn't seem to be anyone to avoid. Actually, with so many different people around, there were a lot to possibly meet!

One such was a woman with a striking amount of white hair, but tan skin. She looked nervous... "Hey, mind if I stand here?" she asked cheerfully, her youthful excitement keeping her buoyant in the otherwise strained situation. If nothing else, it was a chance for a closer look at the multitude of people standing around.

Koril post 2

Seeing his sister help herself to some company that wasn't him, he pouted slightly before wandering off as well. Still he tried to keep his little sister in sight...

Distracted by his contradicting goals, he let out a peep of surprise when he bumped into a stranger. "Sorry!" he urged, giving the woman an apologetic grin. "There're so many here, I guess we're all bound to bump someone~"

Tytus Post 1

"Don't stare too long I hear they can take your soul." Tytus couldn't resist teasing as he shifted to stand next to his fellow Oban. The lancer vaguely recognized the Captain from another Unit and he couldn't help teasing the man as he had noticed how he stared at the Yaeli, "Honestly they're just the same as us minus the looks." He grinned shifting so that he could lean on his lance. While others were just treating this as a meeting the lancer was always prepared for trouble, something even more so that he had his son at his side.

While he hadn't blamed his lover for not coming to this meeting - after all would she want to see anyone from Yael - the man had a duty to keep up with anything official like this. Who knew if a fight would break out after all? His regalia colors, the golden mark of the Xaraan for a rider in the Army, flashed in the Oban sun as he stood there eager to see what their leaders would announce.

Valek Post 1

It was hard for Valek to stand still. The young boy was constantly rotating around his father, his hands on his pants and then on his lance and then back to his father's free hand before moving away to go inspect something on the ground, but he did pause whenever he saw all the strangers who looked like his mother. So they did exist! For a while he had pretended his mother was like a spirit or something from the gods since she was so different from any Oban or Matori he had seen. She's still a hundred times prettier. He quipped quietly to himself as he glanced away from another Yaeli to glance at his Papa. His father had said to stay right next to him and he knew he should, especially since his Papa was constantly checking on him, but it was awfully tempting to get closer to go explore more of this crowd.

Kieran Post 1

While Kieran had planned on travelling he did not mean to venture forth quite so suddenly. Still the news of a gathering had gotten his attention and his desire to protect his family had pushed the Yaeli to travel with others back to Oba. While many seemed antsy he was constantly telling them about the Mainland, an attempt to ease the minds of some while perhaps startling more with the dangers he sometimes presented. But it was better to be prepared than to go in blind, correct?

Then he had Taijana. Kieran smiled at the petite Yaeli at his side before reaching out an arm to wrap around her waist, a silent comfort since he knew how worried she probably was. It had been surprising that she had come to the mainland but it was a comfort to know that his family was where he could protect them should anything occur.

Prala || Post 2

Prala had spotted Shavas making her way through the crowd and was busily trying to hunch down as low as possible while trying not to be too obviously hiding. She liked the other woman, more than she had ever thought she could like anyone of Oban ancestry, but the girl was explosive and quite often exhausting, ad she really needed some space. She was on edge in this place, and it was hard for her to see anything but a crowd of potential enemies before her. She couldn't relax, neither could she leave, there was nowhere to go.

Consequently Prala wasn't paying much attention to the others around her until another voice seemed to come out of nowhere. She jumped, letting out an undignified squeak as she whirled around and let out a sign of relief when she realized Shavas hadn't managed to find her in the mill of bodies. "Oh, no! I mean yes! Oh dear, I mean your more than welcome to stand here." She pushed her masses of hair out of her face, although tightly braided away from her temples, the sweltering climate made her sweat and her hair tended to misbehave. She lifted the mass off of her sticky neck with one hand and quickly fanned her skin.

Oh.
She should say something else.
How did people do this all the time?
"Um, I'm Prala?" She ventured hesitantly, sounding and looking somewhat like a deer in headlights.
She couldn't help but eye the other girl with some curiosity, her coloring seemed rather Oban, but her hair was a fantastic shade that certainly made known her mixed ancestry.

Saraf Post 2

Turning to look over his shoulder at the one who'd spoken up he tried not to show any sort of response to the comment even though he'd felt his entire body tense. Turning slowly to look over at the one that had appeared alongside him he said, "Good to hear. I've never met a member of that particular tribe myself." They were too rare to really just bump into by accident, at least from what he'd seen.

After giving the one next to him a once over he returned to watching the crowd around them, "Is your unit on patrol to help keep an eye on things as well?" If that were the case then he was glad to hear it, wanting to know that it wasn't just his group that were keeping a sharp eye on things, "With so many tribes gathered it would likely cause an incident if anything were to happen now." Especially since there seemed to be a delegation from Yael here.

User ImageAylin || Post 1

Aylin surveyed her surroundings cautiously- last time a group this large had gathered to discuss the disappearances, the very threat they discussed had attacked and left everyone on-edge. Tensions were already high and she was worried about what another attack would do to people's nerves. At least we're together in peace and not rushing to assault one another.

She looked at the brown-skinned Yaeli with curiosity- she may have caught a glimpse or two of the islanders since they become aware of the mainlanders,
but never had she been able to study their features so closely. She'd heard many a strange tale of these folk- that they were gravely superstitious, that their glowing eyes meant they could see in even the darkest depths, and that they had a deep-seated mistrust of anyone "foreign".

Post 2

Alassiel had expected her husband to show up, so when she got bumped she thought it was him and turned around quickly. when she noticed it wasn't sh waved her hand at the apology.

"Don't worry about it!" She always found red hair on Matori and fire hybrids to be quite striking! "Shouldn't be too long before it starts though!"

|| Oba IC ||
“I suppose it’s no surprise that so few decided to leave Yael to come.” Besian mumbled under his breath as he studied the gathering crowds. While it was not the first time that countries had united to fight for a similar cause it was the first time meeting with this new country of Yael. He knew that his own people were still hesitant to accept the strangeness of the glowing eyed people and from the reaction of those that had dared to leave the boats to join the crowds it was apparent that they thought even less of the mainlanders.

A nudge at his side had him distracted from his thoughts and the burly man found himself glancing at a pair of gleaming eyes, “I mean you should hear some of them whispering about how we’ll curse them all.” Quipped Naria as she tapped her fingers on her broadsword, “I even heard one girl ask a fellow tribesman how come the gods chased the Matori out of the great waters.” She couldn’t resist snickering though a crossing shadow quickly had her attention as a pair of those glowing eyes caught her own, “Oh, I’m sorry I umm…”

“It is no worry.” One of the priests that had come from the boats offered a small smile, “Truth be told we are still wary of leaving our country. We have asked acolytes and others from the Sanctum to attend this meeting with us today so that they may offer prayers to our gods for protection against all the potential dangers. Thankfully I have been told that I am a rather bold sort so they have elected me to speak for the Yaeli today. The purification afterwards may take a while but it is well worth the risk considering the greater evils that have befallen our lands...”

“Ah, I see.” Besian cleared his throat to cut off the rambling about how the Yaeli still associated the mainlanders with curses and other unavoidable diseases, “We will make certain that the lodging promised is clear of any outside traffic so that your people may feel at ease.” He moved as if to reach out a hand in greeting before pulling it down, the last time he had offered a handshake to a Yaeli it had been greeted with just a silent stare and he did not wish to repeat the awkwardness, “Since you have already mentioned great evils I suppose we should begin talking about it.”

“Besian, Naria and Elio…” Antiope’s familiar voice drifted over towards the trio as she nodded to each in turn, “I suppose now that our people have gathered we should begin to address why we are all here today.” The shifter waited and as all three seemed to give approval she turned and smiled towards the crowd, “Welcome everyone!” She took a few steps forward on the higher area of the stage as she surveyed the crowd that had started quieting down as people realized that one of the representatives was beginning to speak, “First thank you all for coming to this meeting today! I understand the risks of traveling but I am thankful that you all understand that we have an even greater danger to deal with - the Dretch.” Her expression was somber as the name of the dreaded creatures was spat from her mouth like some soured thing, “As it is we have gathered you all here to discuss new information and admittedly battle plans.” She hoped that such words were not such a surprise but it already seemed that some of the Yaeli were pulling back into themselves. Admittedly she did not blame them considering they had not witnessed the greater wars of Tendaji. Those that had, however, were already reaching for their weapons with grim expressions. They knew battle and they knew what to expect, “I know it has been a hard time for all and I feel for everyone who has suffered loss, I truly do.” She clutched at the top of her tunic as if to reflect her own pain that caused her stomach to turn and her heart to ache, “But we cannot ignore this problem any longer! I want everyone to remember that all races have suffered and will be suffering should we stay back and do nothing! We must unite despite our fears and hesitations! With that stated I must reveal the truth that many surely have already noticed….that there are changes in the patterns of kidnappings…”

Here she trailed off and glanced backwards towards the other leaders and Besian gave her a firm nod. She had this, she could admit to this truth and they would deal with the results. The Yaeli in particular were already on edge as the conversation continued and he knew that there would be consequences to this confession about the Dretch. But what could they do? They couldn’t keep their people in the dark, not when they all needed to unite against this growing evil.

“The kidnappings started with all races. They were blindly chosen and anyone of any class, age, gender, or power went missing. Now, however, we know that the Dretch have stopped targeting our people to instead focus solely on the Alkidike races. It is their people that are suffering the most now and they are the ones we must work with in order to stop these vile creatures.” Her expression was grim yet determined as she stared over the crowd and awaited their reactions.

Gahiji Post 2

Gahiji glanced around as he heard a murmured off to the side about the Yaeli being able to take souls with but a glance among the whispers about them and he was instantly interested. Were they really all that powerful? He wasn't sure but it really did make him want to get himself a good fight with one of them. He felt that it would be a lot of fun! Instantly he was scanning the crowds, trying to find a Yaeli of his own to pick a possible fight with.

That was the plan until those in charge spoke up at least, drawing Gahiji's attention away from his 'hunt' of sorts and toward the Shifter woman. Instantly he was all ears, eager to hear about what they would be doing when it came to teh fight against the bug mages. Magic users weren't his preferred target given it wasn't as fun of an up close and personal battle since they could fling magic at a distance. Still, given the bother they were being he wouldn't mind fighting it out with one or more of them.

Taking a few steps closer to get a better spot from which to listen he found himself looking interested as she continued. At least until it came to the last bit. So the Dretch were focusing on just the Alkidike? Wouldn't that make it difficult wouldn't it? Would they need the Alkidike as bait? Would they even want to be bait? He kind of doubted it. Why would they want to be that? Why would anyone save for Gahiji who would play the part of bait if thought it would get him a good fight. After a moment he glanced around, "Huh... I don't see any Alkidike..." He muttered to himself. They were supposed to work with them but he didn't really see any of them.

Not even that giant woman that he'd had a tussle with in the past was present he thought to himself. So how did they propose that they work with someone that wasn't even present? Were they going to where the Alkidike lived or something?

Shesha Post 3

"Even those two aren't stupid enough to cause trouble at a meeting like this." That meant that they would be able to focus on the issues at hand without worrying about that pair coming to try to stab them in the back. Again in Shesha's case. Turning to glance at Aqio he sized him up before taking a half step closer to him, not wanting to deal with the risk of being grabbed by one of the bug mages... or really any one else for that matter.

Motioning to Aqio he said, "Come on, little fish. Let's see if we can't get a bit closer." He would like to believe that the closer they were to the front the safer they would be. It would be easier to jump those on the edges or the stragglers after all. It wasn't all that long after he started to lead the way forward that someone started to speak up, first taking them all for coming. Once all of the pleasantries were out of the way they got to the important bits, the most important part being that the patterns of the kidnappings were changing. Something that had him narrowing his eyes a bit, wondering what those creatures were after exactly.

"Huh. So they're after the Alkidike?" He'd never met one himself though he did meet with a hybrid once. He found himself growing curious, lifting one hand to tap his index finger thoughtfully against his painted lips, "I wonder what it is that they want with that group in particular?" Was it their size, their strength, something else that the Earthlings might not know about them? It really was curious.

The Only Black Uke

Nataska [3]

As she waited for the Yaeli man to make his response, her attention was distracted by the approach of another, and she found herself staring, eyebrows raising in open surprise. Who was this stranger-? His clothing was decorated enough he must have been someone of rank where he came from, though Nataska was not especially familiar with Yael’s system.

Rainer! he called the man, and then-

Nataska blinked.

Outright touched him. She shifted her weight back to one heel, watching with some combination of amusement and mystification. He certainly was a forward fellow, wasn’t he? Perhaps they knew each other well. Or… At the comment and touch directly drawing attention to the man’s face, she glanced, and found herself focussing on his eyes. Although they still appeared to be glowing, now that some change had been brought up specifically she had to admit they did look notably dimmer than most of those fresh off the boat. This fancy-man included. Is that what he was referring to?

Or perhaps he just looked older than last they had seen one another. Having only been around a comparatively brief period herself, she really couldn’t know all the finer details of their cultural norms.

In the meantime, she had been paying them so much mind, she hardly noticed what was going on in front of their procession until someone began to speak, and after, she couldn’t help a small frown. This sounded less like an issue for them, or certainly her own people by the moment. If what was said was true, why was everyone still so concerned? Weren’t the alkidike their enemy? It was evident there were mixed relations between the various races of Tendaji, but if one thing had seemed clear thus far, it was that almost all of them had a relatively united distaste for the giant jungle-dwellers, and she was fairly certain all of them had gone to war in the past?

But maybe she had missed something…
