Jasper radiated irritation at his comment about showing off, and he could immediately tell she wasnt used to, nor agreeable with, being questioned on her motives. She had paused for a moment to think to herself, but quickened her pace to catch up. That was when Ironwood's voice filled the air, informing them of the time limit. Just to be sure, He fished is scroll from his pocket, checked the time, and sure enough, it was already counting down. Not good. He stopped to consider the path. He knew the layout of the terrain, but not what obstacles they faced. All the while Jasper continued to talk.
" Yes, I know the way. Several ways. The temple is old. Before the war. Beyond that?" He shrugged. "We can discuss the finer points of architecture later. There are two most direct ways, A ridge to the North, its direct, but very open, very exposed. Griffons and Nevermore's at the least. Or the pine barrens just to our South. Flat, easy terrain, and lots of cover, but also little light, compared to the rest of the path, but those are the quickest options. Which option do you think gives us the best chance of success, decide quickly, for we will have to run to stay inside the deadline." He asked of her. He would have taken the ridge personally, long hours of off road runs over rough terrain had made him confident he could cross quickly, but he had a partner now, who hailed from a land without this terrain, and she would be the deciding factor.

Niraya hears Blitz say they need to hurry and before she could say anything he takes off. Niraya quickly charges ahead sticking close to blitz. she quickly commands the drone to speed up to help it keep pace with them. the ruins weren't too far away they would reach it with more than enough time to spare at this pace. though they would probably have to defend the location till they could be extracted. unless they had to find there own way out.

Niraya followed blitz she could hear some grimm encroaching on them from time to time but they just blazed past them. When Blitz stopped she stops as well and tilts her head. "why did you stop?" she looks past him and sees the ruins. "There is the ruins were looking for...so why did you stop?"

spaceJasper looked up at her partner as he spoke, deep voice carrying easily through the air between them. Before the war? That was ancient. Vacuo barely had anything left from before the war. Everything, save a few "historically protected" buildings, was post-war where she was from. She appreciated his very matter-of-fact way of speaking. For a moment, she thought it would be nice to have a partner that didn't really speak, but honestly Jasper needed conversation. She was one of those "uncomfortable with prolonged silence" types. Hopefully their teammates wouldn't be so reserved. The blonde simply nodded at her counterpart, listening to the rest of what he had to say. She joked with herself that this would be the most she would ever hear him say; a playful smile found its way to her face, but she turned her head to look forward to hide it.

The way he spoke had an immediacy behind it, almost like a commander, and it made Jasper wonder what his past was like. He seemed to be an Atlas native so it wouldn't surprise her if he had a rather structured upbringing. She just couldn't be sure, and she had a feeling asking wouldn't warrant much of an answer. He seemed just as private as he was quiet. Of course, she only had her own assumptions to base this off of. Time would tell. The thing was, Jasper had a problem with patience.
spacePer his request, Jasper mulled over the options he presented. Exposed and fight? Or travel in darkness? If both paths were the same distance from the temple, it would make more sense to take the path with more coverage. If they got stopped to fight on the ridge, that would hinder their time, right? But then again, in the darkness, they wouldn't see an enemy coming at them. This thought process only took a few seconds, but she took another to look over her teammate. He looked brutal enough that anything they stopped for would be easy to defeat. Besides, he took on all those Beowolves alone. "Let's take the ridge. That way we can at least see any Grimm coming at us." She placed her index finger to her chin in a thoughtful pose, thought and plans and assumptions running through her mind. If nothing else, she felt safe around Lukas. He was a brickhouse with two axes; who was safer than that?
spaceShe smiled up at him, confidence and excitement running through her bones. The archer made a fist in front of her chest in determination. "Lead the way, partner." She took her bow off her back and disconnected it so she could run easier. Having such a large weapon on her back would cause some problems, she could only imagine. Plus this way she could just slash and not have to worry about nocking an arrow if they were ambushed.

Niraya follows Blitz. once they were in the ruins she noticed several items on pedestals. some were already taken. "were not the first ones here. but at least we made it." She smiles at Blitz as her drone floats over to her. she grabs it and it folds up before she puts it away. shutting off the visor and putting it with it. "Guess we pick one and just wait for extraction then?"

She was eager. Good She'd need the enthusiasm. He made sure the twins were secure on his lower back, took a moment to get his bearings, then once sure of his course, set off at a run. Not a dead run, or his partner would never keep up, but one that definitely kept a grueling pace. They were now maybe ten minutes behind the clock, and time would not be on their side if they were waylaid by Grimm. Heavy soled boots dug deep into the soft bed of dirt and pine needles, and thunked solidly whenever he crossed a fallen log. After a few minutes, the path inclined sharply, climbing up to the ridge. He was not winded, but he was breathing deeply through his nose.
As they mounted the ridge, it was clear that though fairly flat, it was completely exposed, one hundred yards from the edge of the ridge to the tree line off to the right. If attacked, at least they'd see it coming and have room to maneuver. Another five minutes of running brought them to an obstacle, and Lukas dug his feet in and skidded to a halt. In front of them was a long ribbon of Ice, perhaps 75 yards across. The academy had dug a manmade river through the ridge way and froze it. He help up a fist to call a halt, and very carefully put a foot down on the sheet of ice, and applied his weight.
Almost Immediately the Ice cracked, and separated along the river, chunks closest to the edge tumbling over in the now waterfall. " Pancake Ice. There will be chunks that can support weight, others will sink. Water wont be deep, maybe ten feet, but it will rapidly become fast moving as more ice clears the falls, and it's going to be very cold, hypothermia in a matter of seconds. Stay moving. Dont linger too long on an ice slab, and dont go in the drink."He stepped back from the shore a few feet, eyes watching the floes, judging.
Then, he surged forward, bounding across the shore's edge, skidding slightly as he landed on a large thick floe, regained his footing, and then continued on, eyes already picking out each next step. " Come on, if I can make it, you can to." he called over his shoulder to Jasper.
spaceAs soon as Lukas was ready and started off, Jasper followed. He was faster than her but she had a feeling he still wasn't going all out. The young archer didn't mind running, though; her typical placement during hunts was as a runner, anyway. She pulled her scroll her pouch and checked the time; 49 minutes left. She slid it back into place before checking their surroundings, making sure nothing was coming at them. The last thing they needed was to be ambushed. As they ran, Jasper studied Lukas' back, trying to figure out his story. She would almost call him a viking, but she thought that was an ancient society, not a strongly held one. Still, the world was a big place, and she wasn't the most studious person. Soon, the ridge turned brutal, offering the pair a steep uphill climb. Once scaled, they continued on their path, now wide open and exposed.
spaceJasper was watching the treeline and checking behind them when Lukas stopped. If she hadn't turned to look at him she would have ran into his back. The archer looked up at the other's fist, held up to indicate their halt. His commander style of doing things was amusing to Jasper; she would play along for now. Jasper didn't very much like someone giving her orders but she understood the situation warranted it. Casting her eyes ahead of them, she noticed the broken ice and slushy water. Pancake ice? Why did something so threatening have such a cute name? An idea began forming in her head as he spoke and before she had the chance to offer it, Lukas was off, putting his own plan into action. Jasper shot her hand out as he took off, "Ah, wa-wait! I have an idea!" She spoke loud enough for him to hear, not necessarily wanting to attract any Grimm with her noise.
spaceJasper put her longbow back together and took out a few arrows, checking the tips briefly before nocking three at once. Lukas called out to her then, urging her to follow him. As if she was going to jump across some ice in hopes of not falling it. She was balanced and fast, but they couldn't risk any time wasting. Falling in would surely waste time. She aimed for the area ahead of Lukas, send her arrows flying, and hit her marks, each arrow landing a few feet apart. When they landed, the ice dust in the arrowheads burst and thickened their path. As the new ice spread, Jasper aimed another arrow at the area in front of her own feet, shooting the arrow in and thickening her own path. The blonde ran onto the newly formed ice path, stopping briefly to tell Lukas, "We should probably hurry, the current will probably break this up soon," before continuing on and successfully making it across the obstacle.
space"Sorry if I ruined your fun, but we don't have time for all that," She waved her hand dismissfully in front of her face, a small smile stuck to her lips. It was true. If they didn't have to jump across pancake ice, seriously such a cute name, why do it anyway? "Shall we continue, then?"

He'd barely heard Jasper ask him to wait before he'd begun bounding across the ice, but an arrow whistled into the river infront of him, Ice spreading in a thick blanket, temporarily reforming the bridge. Then Jasper was telling him to hurry as it wouldn't last. She quipped about ruining his fun, and for a moment, he knew she was right. His upbringing had taught him to relish every challenge as a chance to test himself, and prove himself the better. He loved a good challenge. Grudgingly he nodded, and kept going, pace quickening when he felt his boots bite into the gravel of the shore.
It wasnt far now. If Jasper could keep up, they'd make it with maybe five minutes to spare." We're close." he grunted and really opened his gait to his full stride. Shadows of grimm in flight crossed his path, but they hadn't seemed to spot the two yet, so he kept going, though his heart yearned to stop and fight. Eyes on the prey, nothing else, and in this case, the prey was the temple at the end of the run.
Finally, another ten minutes at a dead run, he saw the stone structure loom, many had beaten them here, and had there been no time limit, likely many more, because he would've insisted on fighting every grimm he encountered along the way. Arrayed along the interior of the temple were stone altars, with small relics placed upon each. "Take your pick." He told Jasper, settling against the cold stone wall, letting his breathing calm to normal.

Niraya waited there with Blitz unsure what the next step was. no one else had showed up for 5 minutes. suddenly she spots a man charging foward with a woman in tow. It wasn't long before she notices who it was. "Jasper!" She waves with her one good arm and smiles at her. The man ran up to the ruins and stopped to catch his breath before ordering Jasper to claim a prize. Once Jasper had the prize in her hand would be the moment she sees Niraya's injury.

spaceLukas' lack of speech wasn't a major thought of Jasper's now; all she wanted to do was beat the clock. The pair continued running towards their goal. She did her best to keep his pace, but at the same time didn't want to wind herself in case they needed to fight, so she kept back a little distance. Besides, one of them getting ambushed was better than both of them getting ambushed. At least having some space between them offered that option for rescue. Jasper gave a short, "Got it!" when he mentioned how far away they were. Suddenly, a large shadow passed over the pair, drawing the archer's attention. She set her gaze up and was relieved that the flying beast in the sky hadn't taken notice to them. Yet.
spaceFinally, after at least another ten minutes of running, their destination came into view. Jasper silently cheered and almost jumped up and down, had she not already been busy running. Someone shouting her name alerted her to another paired team at the temple, "Oh! Niraya! And Blitz!" She didn't exactly shout their names back at them. Her breath was short. Honestly, she was a little winded at this point, and her throat burned, but it was a victorious burn. They made it within the time limit. As they approached the temple, Jasper stopped beside Lukas and rested her hands on her knees, hunched over slightly and catching her breath. She wasn't breathing terribly deeply, as she was used to running for long spurts while hunting, but this was a little more than she was used to. When Lukas spoke to her, shacking up on a stone wall, Jasper simply nodded. Take her pick? With what?
spaceIt was then that Jasper cast her gaze to what the ruins housed; pedestals with various relics decorating them. The archer perked an eyebrow up and walked over to study them, intrigue etched across her face. She couldn't help but wonder which one Niraya and Blitz had chosen. There were a decent amount missing already, signaling that they weren't even the first few pairs to make it. Ah well, at least they still got there before the clock ran out. Carefully, the blonde plucked a relic from its position, holding it up in the air above her face to stare at it. Would a boulder come rolling down the hill? Or perhaps scorpions would swarm the area? She giggled to herself before bounding back over to Lukas, presenting it to him with a smile.
space"Well, then, I hope this one is alright!" She rolled it between her fingers for a moment before tucking it away in her pouch. Their personalities were starkly contrasting, but there was nothing she could do about that know. Well, besides getting to know him, and he didn't come across as the sharing type. Suddenly, Jasper remembered Niraya and Blitz were present as well. The archer turned so she could see all three of them, "Ah! Sorry guys! Lukas, this is Blitz and Niraya, I met them yesterday. Blitz and Niraya, this is-- oh!" In the middle of her introductions, she turned to look at the other pair, but noticed that Niraya was severely harmed. Jasper rushed over to her, hands hovering over the girl's injury but not touching anything, her worry apparent, "What happened?! Oh gosh, do you want me to try and clean it up? Or something? I have some medical supplies with me." Why were her clothes stained black and not red? Was she a robot with oil for blood? Or was she a special lineage of faunus? Jasper had many questions on her mind, but voiced only her concern for her friend's safety at this moment, and not her own curiosities.

He’d smile and wave as the two other students arrived,his smile fading as he looks at Lukas.After brief eye contact with the other boy his attention shifting away from his old rival as Jasper begins to talk about Niraya’s wounds and treating them,deciding it’s best not to start anything with another student,or rather rekindle something at the present moment.
When Jasper mentions she has a medical kit to treat Niraya he’d look off towards the distance,his fists clenched,he just can’t shake the feeling something big is gonna come charging out of the forest after them.
