"Mmm." Nadiya rolled over on her side before wiping her mouth sleepily with the back of her hand. While her body felt like it had been through a gauntlet the Matori still had managed to somehow sleep through the entire night. It was refreshing, to say the least, that she had at least managed to rest her mind if not her body due to the rough stone. Though her Yaeli body pillow had been a great asset as well....the thought made Nadiya's eyes dart open. Yaeli? Cave? "Steel Eyes." She found herself spitting out the name before quickly moving as if to get on her feet. Immediately the woman let out a small sound of discomfort before she touched her bare feet once more to the ground.

It was a step taken with great care, but still she managed to put some pressure on it. Using the cave wall as leverage Nadiya hobbled slowly towards the entrance. At least the sun is out today. Despite everything she could at least appreciate the way the dew sparkled in the sunlight, "It's pretty." She commented with a soft smile as she noticed the flowers which had started blooming after the rain, "Why the sigh?" She asked from behind Steel Eyes as she continued hobbling forward. As she noticed the array of items along the ground Nadiya had to give it to him. He definitely was on point when it came to necessities and survival it seemed.

Perhaps she should go check in on her bag? Not that she had much clothing wise in there save for perhaps a small under dress or something that she could wear. I suppose there is a downside to travelling with many of your belongings in trunks rather than on you personally. She quipped quietly as her mouth pressed into a thoughtful line, "What do we do next?" She found herself finally asking as she focused back on Steel Eyes.

Jolanta gave the slightest of jolts as he heard the voice behind him, not having expected the Matorian woman to wake up so soon. Turning to glancing over his shoulder he said, "Just thinking about what to do going forward. Which was true in a sense. Turning around completely he gave Nadiya and once over before he asked, "Are you sure that you should be up? You might have broken or sprained something in your fall yesterday." Walking would surely only make that worse... meaning she should probably be sitting down. It also meant that he should probably consider carrying her.

As he was asked what they should do next he said, "We will dry off, warm up, and see about heading toward the nearest village. Once there we will get you medical attention and a morning meal." After that he wasn't quite sure what they would do. It all really depended on whether or not the village they found first was one that had Nadiya's brother in it. If not then they would have to continue onward to wherever it was that he was heading to.

"You don't have to worry, I will get you back to your brother as soon as I am able." He said in what he hoped was a reassuring tone of voice. It had been some time since he was in a position where he was in a protector's role and he wasn't sure what he thought about being thrown into role again. It was definitely something he wasn't a fan of since it wasn't really his choice and because he'd been trying to avoid this sort of thing for the most part. It felt far too easy to fall back into the role... which made him that much more uneasy about it. The sooner the got Nadiya back the better.

"Ah." Nadiya tilted her head thoughtfully, "I see." The Matori had to raise a hand to stifle another yawn as she glanced around before blinking back at him when he questioned her, "Huh?" The sleepy Matori shook her head slowly, "I'll be okay, promise~" She still stood lightly on one foot while she was slightly slanted from putting most of her weight on her good leg. It was still sore, but what was she to do? What if pay wasn't enough for him and he ended up just deciding to ditch her here in the wilderness? Though I doubt that. She shot him a thoughtful look before trying to walk a few steps again.

And then it was like he was reading her mind, "I'm not worried at all!" Replied Nadiya hastily with a slight flush warming the back of her neck, "Though the meal sounds nice." She looked around again as if to study their surroundings, "I think now that it's not pouring rain it actually looks like we could find a path along these cliffs and get back to the upper level." Surely there would be a village there, right? She pursed her lips thoughtfully as she leaned against the outside wall of the cavern for support, "If not we can at least get a better vantage point of this area and start heading for the coast." Nadiya smiled faintly, "It may have been a year or so since I've been home, but I can still navigate these shorelines once we get there."

As she leaned against the wall Nadiya registered some more of his words, "Warm up?" She replied with a faint smile, "How so?" She stared at him with a playful spark in her gaze, "Ah, probably a fire which is no fun in comparison to....well things." Now that she was starting to fully wake up the Matori was in the mood to tease again, "But you're right, we should dry off. I think I have something in my bag...promise not to come into the cave for a peep? I would like to change, but can't really do it out here. Well I guess I could, but I don't know if you would like that." She grinned playfully before slowly moving away from the cavern wall so that she could hobble a few steps away and back towards the entrance, "So I'll just go ahead and change inside, okay?"

Jolanta turned around so that he could watch the Matorian as she tried to go about showing him that she was just fine now. It was something that had him giving her a long, unblinking stare before he gave a little sigh, "I will take care of it when we are ready to go." He told her. He'd need to figure out how he was going to go about carrying everything along with Nadiya herself but he felt that he could do it. If she wore her own back on her back, he wore his sword on his front, and carried his pack in his hand then he should be able to carry her easily enough. She hadn't really been all that heavy when he carried her last night and that was when she was soaked through. It should be alright.

How long he could carry everything though that was the question. He was a man, not a pack animal, and that meant that he didn't have all the stamina in the world. Here was to hoping they were close enough to a village that he could get there before he exhausted himself completely.

As Nadiya mentioned that they should be able to find the path along the cliff now that the rains were blinding them he found himself looking up and down the path that was outside of the cave they'd stayed in. He supposed she was right. They could get up to the top and from there they should be able to see a good distance. He was studying the cliffs when he suddenly heard something that caused his silver eyes to go rather wide. It had been a year or so? Didn't things change in that amount of time? Not massive changes but enough to throw her off, perhaps? It meant that he should keep his eyes peeled just in case some sort of dangerous creature moved into the area since she'd last been here.

His deep thoughts were again thrown off as the girl spoke up, talking about ways that were more fun then just a fire for warming up. It was something that caused his cheeks to color ever so slightly before he looked aside, "I'll have to pass... and no, I won't be peeping, Miss Nadiya." With that he turned around, putting his back to the cave, and set to keeping watch so that nobody else tried to sneak a glance at Nadiya while she changed.

Nadiya pursed her lips in a silent protest at the stare that Steel Eyes gave her. It wasn't that hopeless! She wanted to actually argue about it a bit, but then again it was actually hard to stand at the moment. Such a realization made the back of her neck warm as a flush slowly crept along her skin. We'll see. She thought as she disappeared into the cavern once more.

Admittedly she was rather slow in getting her clothing off since it was hard to stand straight, but eventually Nadiya changed out of her damp clothing in favor of a short tan dress with some golden embroidery. It's supposed to go under another layer, but in Matori who would even see that? She teased lightly as she patted down the cotton material. This was more modest than half of the clothing the tribals wore. Spending time on Belrea must have gotten her into the habit of wanting more layers and for a second Nadiya was actually hesitant to step outside, "Stop being silly." The Matori pursed her lips before reaching up to pull her long, wavy hair back into a ponytail. At least now that was out of the way.

"Done. You can look now." She called out before gingerly taking a step outside. It still hurt to walk, but at least she could move now. That was something right? Hobbling forward she tried to glance about the area, "I'm ready whenever you are."

Jolanta turned around as he was told that Nadiya was done and that he could look. He was half expecting to be not completely ready just to mess with him... but much to his relief she was fully dressed and ready to go. Giving a nod he said, "Just a moment." He was quick to pack up his things after making sure that everything was nice and dry. Once that was done he walked over to where Nadiya was standing and then turned around, taking a knee before her, "Here, hop on. I will see about carrying you to the village and that way you need only concentrate on getting us there."

It should be easy enough if all went well and with luck they would be back in the village within the day. A thought that had him instantly praying to Dafiel for a bit of aid when it came to at least one part of this trip going smoothly. Thus far it had been a lot of falling and rain... but surely things had to start to look up from here, right? Here was to hoping.

Nadiya's gaze widened ever so slightly as Steel Eyes suddenly bowed before her, "H-hop on?" She repeated in surprise, "You want to carry me on your back?" The Matori's cheeks flushed before her expression turned into a playful grin, "I mean if you wanted to get closer to me you could just ask instead of this." But as she stood there Nadiya shifted her weight to her injured leg and let out a small gasp of pain, "But I suppose I don't mind some physical bonding."

Carefully she wrapped around arms around his shoulders and tucked her legs around his waist, "Is...is that okay?" She asked as she tried to settle into position with her things also hanging on her own back, "Are you sure you can do this? I mean it'll take a bit longer but I can walk....a little?" She leaned against him and kept a firm grip for whenever he stood. It was just distracting how he was treating her when she had expected someone who tried to be so cold to force her to walk. She felt awful that he was straining himself so for her, but at the same time a small warm feeling had blossomed in her chest at the sight of him kneeling to assist her. Almost like a knight. She closed her eyes against the thought before subtly shaking her head against her own treacherous thoughts. Probably was just hunger making stomach feel so fluttery like.

"When we get to the top of the cliff I can try walking then." Nadiya commented quietly, "That way you aren't so strained by carrying me." Surely she could walk as long as it was on a better path. These cliffs however were a bit more tricky to walk around and that alone made Nadiya wary enough to sit quietly on the back of Steel Eyes.

Jolanta remained quiet, allowing the girl to talk herself into taking him up on his offer, though it would see she wasn't able to do so without teasing him just a bit. He did his best to shrug off her words about 'getting closer' and 'physical bonding' though it was difficult to do since just the words caused the tips of his ears to color a bit. Surely it wasn't all Matorian that were so friendly as this? It was almost difficult to believe given some stories he'd heard of their past. One would think that they would be far more wary and unfriendly, but it didn't seem to be the case with this one at the very least.

Once Nadiya was in place Jolanta pushed to his feet. He made sure that everything was in place just so before starting forward along the path, "This is fine." He said, not wanting her to think that he was straining himself. Now it would be difficult if they had to walk a long distance in thick sand but he wasn't about to admit such a thing. Instead he focused on the path, wanting to get them to the top of the cliff so that she could get her barrings and figure out exactly where they were. Once she'd done that she might be able to point the way toward a village and he'd be able to see her to a healer.

The sooner she was healed the better since he didn't want to risk his curse trying to take hold in someone else, something he knew full well it was capable of doing. He really did miss that about Yael, the fact that he could go to the Sanctum from time to time to see his curse managed. Right now all he could depend upon were the sealing markings on his arm, something he worried might be faltering. He might need to get them renewed he thought idly as the walked continued. Glancing over his shoulder he said, "No. Walking with a bad leg at the top of a cliff... do you want to fall off again?" What a weird girl... did she have a death wish? Or did she think herself immune to a third fall thinking the first two were flukes?

Nadiya found her arms tightening around Jolanta as they began to move, "Fall again?" She quipped lightly as she leaned against his back, "Of course no-" She trailed off with as a grin spread across her face, "I mean maybe? Depends on if you'll be there to catch me or not when I fall~" She leaned forward so that her breath brushed his neck ever so gently before she rested her chin on his shoulder, "You know despite your name, Steel Eyes, I feel like you're a really nice guy." Nadiya paused as she studied his neck and his ear that peeked from his hair. A nice guy who wasn't too bad looking, but who was looking? Me of course. She laughed quietly under her breath before forcing herself to try and glance about the path.

"It looks like a bit more, but once we get to the top of the cliff you can at least put me down and rest your back for a bit. I know I'm super petite, but you also fell yesterday..." Her voice trailed off as sincerity took over the teasing tone of her voice, "Are you certain carrying me isn't a big strain on you? I really can try to manage if this is too troublesome..." Once they got to the top surely she could remember the area better. That way she could get them to a village, her her leg checked out but also get him checked out. Not in a flirting way either since she truly was worried about his health. The fall, the storm, and now the climb...all of it had to wear him down a little bit surely. And how could she get escorted home if her escort became a ghost himself? Now that wouldn't be a great ending to this story, not at all.

"Good to hear." He'd rather that she wasn't looking forward to another fall or else he'd be rather worried for the girl he thought to himself idly. Glancing over his shoulder for a moment he found himself studying the girl that had just told him that she felt he was a 'good guy' and he shrugged, "Not really." She was definitely confused it would seem, not something that he wanted for her else she would really and truly think him a nice guy instead of just having a feeling about it. He'd rather she not get that mixed up about him and his intention, he was just doing it for the money he reminded himself. It wasn't due to any desire to be a hero, that wasn't him anymore.

Glancing upwards through his glasses he said, "Perhaps. If you mean to be very careful." Even if she just fell down and back onto the path it wouldn't be good for her. The damage was going to add up and sooner or later she'd end up with an even more serious wound then she'd already gotten. His eyes went forward again, back onto the path that the two of them were traveling and he said, "You needn't worry about me, I'm fine. I didn't train for so long to... ahh... well, I didn't train as much as I did to get defeated by a walk up a path." No reason to really explain the initial reason for his training to the one he was carrying.

Nadiya pursed her lips, "No fun." She mumbled under her breath at his lack of a reaction to her slight teasing. It seemed he was getting more accustomed to her flirting ways which simply meant that Nadiya had to step up her game. At his protest of her compliment Nadiya sighed, "I think so, but you're just very stubborn about it." She paused a moment as she rested against him, "Curious though why you'd want others to think of you in a more negative light...does it bring in more work if you're a known as a cold killer type? Is that it? I suppose for people getting hired to do anything looking soft does harm the resume a bit." She crinkled her nose in distaste at the idea, "I suppose even a few stories need their colder heroes though so it could work." Cold-hearted badass, hm? Still don't see it, but maybe I could do stubborn jerk? Not like she was planning on spinning this into a story, but just in case it was nice to have a base idea.

"What?" Nadiya chuckled, "Do you think I'll fall off a cliff just by breathing? Give me a bit more credit, jeesh." She shook her head almost losing her balance from his back and so the Matori had to cling even tighter against Steel Eyes as they neared the end of their climb, "Training?" She blinked with interest, "Sounds interesting if you simply trained to learn how to survive a climb with a Matori on your back...are you psychic? Is that what it is?" She teased lightly, "All this planning because you knew one day you'd have a pretty lady like me clinging to you~" Seriously though what had he almost spilled? Oh she just had the feeling that there was something really interesting going on with this guy! Why was he such a spoil sport when all she wanted to do was dig around for a good story?

Though movement along the top of the cliffs could have her answer as it seemed that they weren't as along as she thought...

Jolanta gave a slight shake of his head, "Nothing so interesting or creative as that." Though he had to wonder if he got his pick of jobs the day they came out because he acted in the manner that he did? He'd prefer to think that it was because he finished all the jobs that he took on, even the most basic ones, and in as little time as he was able. Well... that and the fact that the girl that gave out the jobs seemed to be cut from the same cloth as Nadiya when it came to flirting. Something he'd never understand. Was he sending off some sort of vibe that he didn't mean to that caused such a reaction?

"It's just... easier." He said finally before giving a sharp shake of his head and said in a very even almost monotone manner, "I am no hero." He was as far from hero as one could get these days, doing all manner of work for coin and not because he wanted to save people. Heroes were things to be kept in the stories that Nadiya mentioned.

Giving a slight sigh he said, "As you've fallen a few times now I suppose that yes, I think it's something that you might be good at." He could only hope that she didn't do it just by breathing or else he didn't think that even someone of his training would be able to get her back to her brother. Another sigh escaped him as she mentioned him going through training that was meant to specifically involve carrying a Matorian to safety on his back. He gave a shake of his head and said, "Not specifically Matorian, but in that vein I suppose." That was a long time ago and something he'd say wasn't his forte anymore... and yet here he was, carrying another injured person toward safety. He was starting to think that Lurin really was toying with him these past couple days.

Looking ahead again he tried to get his thoughts into order, not wanting to let himself slip back into the shoes of a wannabe hero. He wasn't that man anymore, not since... a thought that seemed to slip away as a hissing sound caught his attention. Instantly he drew the great sword from it hung against his chest, his eyes going very cold behind his glasses, and murmured, "Shhh." To Nadiya but nothing else as he squatted down to make them appear smaller and shuffled forward as quietly as possible to peek over the edge of the cliff that the path was leading them toward... and muttered a Yaelian curse under his breath. Just the giant monster her was wanting to avoid.

"Well... if you think you can carry yourself then it seems you will need to do so. I will attempt to chase that... thing off and you can retreat." He murmured to his charge. The yaotl wasn't full grown, likely more of an adolescent given it was far from it's full size... but it still dwarfed the snaptrotters of the area and would still cause too much harm to an already injured Nadiya. If the thing saw her limping it would see her as easy prey, meaning he had to make to get its attention fully on him just as he'd done with the bandits the day before.

"Hrm." Nadiya pursed her lips thoughtfully before letting out a soft sigh, "You're no fun." She quipped lightly as she rested against his back. At least she was kinda comfortable up here despite feeling like a burden on the Yaeli. But she did have to wonder about the man's past. It was simply in her nature as a story-teller to be very inquisitive about the stories that others carried with them since it helped to build up her arsenal of tales. Even if she didn't tell the direct stories to others during her travels she could take that inspiration to twist something similar up as she entertained others.

Her cheeks flushed lightly at his commentary at her falling, "Well, maybe I just enjoy it then." Replied Nadiya sharply as she tried to push off the embarrassment, "I mean it got me a friend ride so who am I to protest if I slip here and there?" She turned her gaze to the side with a slight frown before his words caught her attention, "So you were up to something before this..." Maybe there was a reason he had left Yael? Even though the island had been opened to Tendaji for a few years now it was still rare to see a Yaeli since they adored their homelands and feared the mainland so much, "You must have some good story for traveling over here." She commented slyly but before she could really poke at him for more answers the Matori found her attention otherwise occupied.

"Is...this real?" She whispered as the creature appeared. She had heard stories, but had never seen one herself. Even though a part of her was excited that such a thing was here, something for her to really use in a future tale the woman was at the same time wary. This wasn't something they could easily escape from and her gaze went towards Steel Eyes. He meant to fight it on his own? "I can't leave you with that thing." She protested in a harsh whisper as she wiggled to try and get off of the Yaeli's back, "Let me down and we'll figure this out together...do you think if we run it'll chase?" Already her amber gaze was darting about their surroundings seeking an answer to their predicament. Surely there was something she could do to help him out...

Jolanta didn't even glance at Nadiya as he shifted his stance, bringing his sword up in front of him, "I will deal with the beast. You need to get moving first since you're slowed by your injury." He told her, not liking that she wanted to try to figure out another way. At her question he gave a slight wince followed by a nod, "It's sure to give chase, it's a carnivore after all... and if it sees you limping... It's not an option for the both of us to run." He actually sounded worried as he said the words.

"You need to go. Your brother is waiting for you, as well as the others in the caravan. Best that you get back to them in as close to one piece as possible." He hadn't been able to help her to avoid the injuries that she'd had gotten to this point but he could make up for that by dealing with the yaotl. If he fell against it then it would at least be kept busy by eating him... a morbid thought that he kept to himself as he doubted Nadiya wanted to hear that sort of suggestion.

With that he started forward toward the beast, whistling as he did so, wanting to bring its attention fully on to him. The whistle caused the creature's head to jerk to the side, it's long tongue flicking out, before it gave a hiss. It seemed he had its attention which was good... and bad at the same time. Damn but the thing was intimidating in a way that he didn't want to admit out loud. Best that he didn't speak of any sort of fear because he didn't want to give it a chase to try to take hold. He was a warrior and he couldn't let himself get scared... if that happened then he'd already failed.

"How heroic of you." Muttered Nadiya as Steel Eyes moved to try and deal with the creature, "But best of luck to ya." What was she supposed to do just leave him and let him die here? The bard was not appeased by that thought at all! But if he's going to be a stubborn fool I guess at least one of us can survive... She didn't like it but when he mentioned her brother the woman's stomach did a little flip. Her family. That was right - they were waiting on her since she had already been gone a year. How would they react if she just never came home? What if no one ever found their bodies or worse what if someone did? A shiver ran down along her spine as she started to weave between rocks and get away from the fight, "Please be safe, Steel Eyes."

Steel Eyes was a warrior surely he could handle a creature like that. So why was it that even though she had turned her back on him and climbed further up the path that she was now stopping? As she found a perch along the path the woman clutched at the precious object to her, the flute from her brother, and watched the fighting as it happened behind her. How was he doing? Was he actually holding his own? Nadiya's gaze narrowed as she studied the scene with worry. She had to do something, there had to be something that she could do!
