"I found one. I just can't do anything with the rain. So I just fixed this place and have been waiting..........and doing nothing." He said, feeling how stagnant everything was. "No point in opening boxes. I don't want to feel like I'm settling......I don't want to convince myself to stay." Settling for whatever was easiest and comforting had been what caused a lot of problems for him.

"Yeah, I can understand that." Jordan leaned back against the pillow. "I think about a house sometimes, but I'm not sure it wouldn't feel like it was too big for me. Fixing one up would be a nice project, though. Once the rain stops, anyway."

"Could always make a small one. That's what I'm doing. Or a ranch home. Or a shop. Could even flip a house and sell it." He suggested, taking another sip of pop.
"You just might have a shitty neighbor." He said, smiling.

"I could pick one out and fix it up and decide if I want it myself after, I guess," Jordan said, and picked up his soda again to sip at it. "Can't really control who moves in next door, I guess. Where's yours going to be at?"

"Further off. I wanted some distance away from Lawr, and I wanted a view of the lighthouse. Somewhere closer to the water too so I wouldn't have to walk so far to get to the shore." He explained. "It's just a pile of rubble. I went in the rain to clear a bit of it out, but it's all just mud now." He sighed, looking out to the windows where it was still raining.
"Not really good with design. Just made little squares on pieces of paper and hope they make sense."

"Going to have to build it from the ground up?" Jordan asked, interested. "Do you have any experience with building or are you going to bring some people in for the construction part?"

"Lawr and I build the home he and Rodney now live in. It was supposed to be our future home." He admitted, looking into his cup. "We did a lot of the work ourselves, and bartered and paid for more technical work. I got the contacts we used before from Lawr before I moved out and kept the others incase we ever had any issues and needed repairs." He said, feeling a sad twist in thinking about that. He never thought he'd build another house and that the one they build was it.
"This time I just gotta build it from the ground up myself. At least I have money again."

"I didn't know you'd built that all yourselves." Jordan finished the soda and set the can aside. "It's good that you've got the contacts, that will be useful." He wasn't going to dwell on the part about it being Lawr and Melvin's home; Melvin had only recently broken free of that regret, it seemed, and it would hardly be productive to go back to it.
"If you need help, you can call me, I'd be happy to give you a hand when I'm free," he offered.

"Yeah. We planned it all out, made extra rooms Melody and Mik and even extra. Had a studio for Rodney so he could move in. Our room and the attic and even a nice kitchen. It took a lot of time and money. Never thought I'd have to do this again. It felt permanent when you nake a house like nothing can tear it down. Thought you didn't make houses unless both of you were serious." His thumb rubbed the side of the can. "I was so stupid."
He offered a small, ghost of a smile. "I'd appreciate the help."

"I would've assumed the same, honestly. Building a house together is a pretty big gesture." Jordan had wanted that, once. It was probably better that things had fallen apart before it was begun, rather than after. It would have been harder to move out of a house built by his own hands as a gesture of commitment, and he could clearly see why Melvin had clung to it for so long and so determinedly.
"Anytime," he said, and gave Melvin a small smile back.
