"I don't know, is that how weapons even work?" She asked without not actually expecting an answer. She draaaaaagged herself over and grabbed a thermos and a baggy and opened both up and took a little cookie that was swirled with a small red jam center and took a bite. "I get the feeling you've done this before?"

Micah didn't make a move to go after the snacks, only drinking more water. "Nova tells me she makes me stronger, anyway. Who knows if she's just saying that."
Hey! Why I lie? Not just saying! Nova was indignant at the implication.
"A few times," he said to Melody. "Worked in construction some before I got here. How about you? What did you do?"

"Is Nova your weapon?" She pried before taking another dainty bite and finally sitting up to pour the thermos' contents into the cup-like lid and then twisting it shut again to keep it the right temperature. She took a sip, pinky out and everything and sighed. She felt so much better already.
"I honestly didn't do anything. Not yet. I really didn't know what to do with myself. The offer they gave me to come here though was the most tempting outlook I felt I even had."

"Yep. This's her." He tapped the bracelet on his right wrist, made of delicately swirled and curved silver wire and a large oval cachobon of green amber. It seemed distinctly out of place with the practical nature and unpolished style of the rest of his clothes.
He watched, bemused, as she even did the pinky thing, and wondered how much of it was for show and how much of it was just, well, her. "Guess that's not a bad reason," he said. "I'm here because the city I lived in got a zombie outbreak."

Melody grimaced and sucked back against her teeth with an audible hiss. It sounded horrible and it was apparent not very many people survived it or there would have been a much larger surge of hunters. That was her approximation at least.
"I'm sorry, that is a pretty horrible way to find yourself here," she reached to pick her cookie up again by the edges and yes even slightly pinkied out as she took a finishing bite of it. She pulled a small napkin out of the bag and gently brushed her face clean of any crumbs before taking another sip of tea.
"Would you like some?" she asked after a pause to be sure every speck of cookie had been devoured.

"That's all in the past now." Micah sounded like he wasn't terribly upset. He had, in fact, relentlessly bottled up his feelings about the outbreak and the month he'd spent living under siege by zombies and the chunk of time that remained stubbornly missing, and he wasn't about to let them out now.
"Thanks, nah," he said, and drank some more water. "You about done there?"

"Not yet," she pleaded and pulled out another cookie, this one had a drizzle of chocolate.
"Did you have a house of your own?"

Micah hunkered down to wait, since she didn't appear to be getting up yet. "An apartment," he said. "Didn't near have enough saved up for a house. Not exactly a rich guy," and he laughed.

"Do you like it here?" And that she figured was the burning question. She nibbled the fresh cookie exactly as she had the last; taking her sweet time to be absolutely careful about it.

He thought about the question briefly. "It's not bad," he allowed. "Better'n getting eaten by zombies. Or being a zombie. Or not waking up. I got a job for life, I can still do the jobs I know how to do aside that, and I don't have to worry about rent and bills. And I can lift a good bit more than I used to." He angled a thumb in her direction. "How about you?"

"Maybe," she answered cryptically after she finished off the second cookie.
"I don't like lifting things in general though," So she honestly didn't have much to compare to. Her own weapon was even shoulder mounted and not something she held in the traditional sense. Oh. She mouthed without a sound and then gestured at her necklace.
"This is Whisper. He's a Raum."

"I got no idea what a Raum is," Micah admitted cheerfully. "Nova's a plant monster. Green, leafy, and totally shameless. Also a whip."
No use for shame, Nova said, just as cheerfully. Only hold you back.

"A raum is a demon. They look sort of like... blackbirds -" Crows, Whisper gently corrected. "-crows," Melody amended.
"He's very quiet and feathery and he's sort of a shoulder-thing." She gently pat her shoulder upon which he summons. "He's very pretty too.," she said while eyeing Nova over, clearly trying to compliment her appearance as well with her statement.

I pretty, Nova said, pleased that someone else agreed with her assessment of herself.
"Nova says thanks for the compliment." Micah figured that that was more tactful, even if Nova hadn't said exactly that.

If Whisper could give Melody a stern look, he would be doing exactly that right now. He did not like to discuss his appearance as he did not appreciate being called 'pretty' all that much. Helpful, yes, but pretty? No.
