It definitely helped her planning that many of the pokemon she still needed to catch were at least scanned. Pokemon that she had faced in battle, like piplup and roselia, were shown in grey. Seeing piplup made her think of that boy she'd fought, right after getting Mochi. She chuckled to think at how he'd affected her so with his harsh words, and felt a little embarrassed by her overreaction and declaration that Seul would be better off without her. She wondered where the boy and his prinplup were now.

The beginning of her journey felt weirdly far away as Riley looked out at her pokemon. She'd been through so much, and though it hadn't really been that long, it felt like forever since that first day when she set out for Sandgem with Seul. So much had happened, and while she would have rather never met Mael or been whisked to the darkness of Giratina's domain, she had to admit that then she wouldn't have met Kuraz or Amalia, or Scarlett, aka the Captain.

It was with vague guilt Riley realized she'd completely forgotten to keep an eye out for Team Plasma in the past week. But that was kind of expected- they were based in another region, after all. And right now Riley wasn't surprised they were nowhere to be found; this was the last place she'd ever expect them to come, between the knights that defended it and the fact that all of the pokemon that lived as part of the city were free.

That was something that Riley found interesting- that there was such a distinction between wild pokemon and pokemon that considered themselves a part of the kingdom. It was a choice, but it did make some sense. Riley, after encountering Team Plasma, had done a little research online to find out about if there was any truth to what they said. After all, she did have to admit that there were people out there who didn't treat their pokemon well at all.

What Riley found online was hardly conclusive and mostly opinions, but she did find one excerpt from a study that argued that most pokemon did in fact enjoy being with their trainers. The one piece of information she found most interesting was the mention that some wild pokemon were so jealous of the pokemon that belonged to trainers that they would attack the captured pokemon. That explained why so many pokemon would come out and want to battle while she was traveling.

What Riley had learned helped her feel better about rejecting Team Plasma's doctrine. Beyond that, she understood a little better how this Kingdom of Kuraz's functioned. She imagined that many of the pokemon here would have been ones to seek out trainers on their own if this place didn't exist. They probably loved being able to remain free while also having humans to be partners with.

With all of these thoughts running through her head, Riley couldn't help but come back to the root of her guilty feelings in all this: Kuraz and Amalia were, technically, her pokemon. She still had their pokeballs, and were registered in her pokedex. But when she had offered to release Kuraz and Amalia as they parted ways, the Lucario had refused. At first it had perplexed Riley, but now she felt she understood. The pokeballs didn't represent a relationship of master and servant.. with them, as with all of her pokemon, it was a bond between partners.

These thoughts were all well and good, but Riley had to admit that the pokemon she was catching for her pokedex... she didn't really have a deep connection with any of them. But every time she called the Professor to see how they were all doing (every one of them sent to the PC was kept in the Professor's huge preserve of pokemon) he always responded saying they seemed quite happy. In fact, many of her pokemon had apparently breeded and laid eggs, though of course the pokemon that hatched from these didn't belong to Riley. She'd have to use the breeding center for that.

Riley realized her eyes had wandered to Seul and Mochi as she thought of the breeding center. Did they...did they like each other? She rubbed her cheeks, feeling her face getting a little red. But there was no way for her to tell if they were just close because they were Riley's first pokemon. Then again, she had caught Zeke very early, and he didn't seem to have eyes for either of them.. As if her thoughts had been sensed, Seul glanced back at Riley. What he saw was his trainer dutifully watching Vanyel fighting another pokemon.

Vanyel, to his credit, didn't fall flat on his back when he picked up on Riley's thoughts. He didn't know exactly what she was thinking, but it was enough to throw him for a loop. As he fought another pokemon he was incredibly distracted, sneaking looks whenever he could at Seul and Mochi. What was it Riley was thinking about? Then, as he tuned in to his link with Seul... what was that feeling of lightness in the absol's aura?

Confused, Vanyel stopped paying attention and was rewarded with a slap to the face from another wild pokemon. He shook his head, realizing he should focus. But if he had felt awkward and gangly before, now he felt even worse. His body simply felt heavy in all the wrong places, and though he had power and grace, he could feel that he did, he just didn't feel...right. Not like when he was a kirlia. But then he remembered being a ralts, how scared he'd been, how utterly powerless when compared to his older sister... Maybe this was normal.

While Vanyel was wrestling with himself (and the pokemon drawn by the incense), Seul and Mochi were enjoying a quiet walk under the trees. Or at least, quiet now. There had been that moment where Mochi snatched an overripe fruit from above and quick as a whisper smushed it onto Seul's horn. She'd leaped into the branches, swinging gracefully from tree to tree as Seul chased underfoot, leaping after her with the berry, speared through the center, resting against his forehead and oozing juice. Now, Seul walked with bits of berry skin and chunks of the flesh sticking to his fur, now a light pink from the juice.

The look Seul gave her normally would make her laugh, but instead she found herself unable to look away. Then his lips curled into a smirk. With a triumphant roar, Seul leaped from his haunches. Catching Mochi full in the stomach with his horn he pushed for all he was worth. The monkey went sailing into the air, landing with a loud splash in the stream.
