Makani - Post 2

Makani found himself a place to stand that was out of the wind that he could listen to those around him. There seemed to be a lot of chatter going on, whispers of what it was that was going on, and he was starting to feel that it was a good thing that his sister had sent him along. Best that they got a feel for what was going on and who was behind it, especially if it was a real threat because that meant those of the inn could prepare.

He had his head tilted to one side, waiting for word from the elders, when he heard a rather loud sound coming toward where he and Rae were standing. As he listened to the sound, foot fall from some large beast, Rae gave a little 'gruff' sound under her breath. It seemed that she didn't want to get up in the face of the creature that was coming their way... which made him wonder that much more what it was. Giving a curious sound he let a little pulse of magic move forward so he could get a feel for the creature's energy... and realized that he wasn't alone.

"Huh... someone's out there with the big creature, huh?" He asked of Rae before calling out, "If you don't mind me asking, what sort of beast is with you?"

Just as he asked he heard a voice call out, one he'd sworn he'd heard before in the past, and turned to listen as the woman said that it was time they spoke about the 'disappearances that had occurred' which told him exactly why they were here. So people were vanishing? That was actually a bit on the scary side, huh? Especially since he might be easy to sneak up on if he didn't have his magic prepared for 'seeing'.

Callum - 3

The swordsman simply nodded, as if it were the most simple thing in the world. What kind of a father would he be if he wasn't worried about them? Especially with these rumors...

"Yes, I'm sure if they wanted to see me, they could."
Perhaps if his children bothered to write home more often, or in Sol's case, not go out of their way to avoid him when he visited then he wouldn't have to worry so much. Did they give their baba the same treatment? He would have to speak with his husband about that.

Callum was trying to remain chipper and calm, if not a little quiet in respect for the leaders, but this business about age was always the number one ticket to getting his feathers ruffled. There was a bit of color to his pale cheeks when he reached over to pinch Akiyal's arm. "Talk about age again, and there's another one in it for ya." Just to make good on his threat, he clicked his forefinger and thumb, like a crab claw.

AKIYAL
Post: 4

Rather than retort immediately, Akiyal's crystal gaze dropped to the dirt beneath his feet. On some deep, buried level, he understood that this man probably had some right to feel abandoned, though it felt (somewhat irrationally) like he didn't want to see or think of that aspect at all. Aki didn't know the full situation, but it seemed like, just from what he knew, the whole family had lived somewhere in the Sauti or Zena area together at some point, and everyone else had just sort of... left. But that's what kids did. Grow up and leave.

Aki exhaled slowly and tried not to feel as though this were some sort of personal insult to him. "Kinda your job, though, innit?" He muttered, tone soft and gaze still down. "You're the parent. It's not your kids' job to follow after you wherever you go and clean up your messes, but it is your job to keep up with them and fix their mistakes and be sure they're happy and safe. Or that's how it seems it should be to me, anyway."

But it wasn't his business, and he didn't care, and some lonely old hybrid out in the mountains didn't really-

"Ouch!" He yipped, attention swiveling up from his downturned position to shoot fierce, icy daggers at Callum as the man pinched him, and- Well, actually, Aki had to admit to being mildly surprised, not just from the sting of it, but from the fact that he couldn't recall a time when someone he wasn't especially familiar with would actually do something like that.

Most people kept a polite distance until they were more comfortable with him, and Aki tended to advance too quickly to make that process a smooth, seamless one, particularly with people who were so much older than him.

He huffed and shoved back at Callum's shoulder. "Ya act like I aid something offensive. Didn't say nothin' that wasn't true... Didn't call ya ugly or wrinkly or leathery. You don't even look that weird for a hybrid."

Rhag'na 2

When the leaders finally began to speak, Rhag’na pulled a hood over his head and moved just a touch closer. With everyone’s attention on the leaders no one would look back at the hooded man who hid behind the crowd. So this was indeed about the disappearances… Rhag’na had heard about them, he would have investigated if not for the fact that he was busy with other problems at the moment. Still, hopefully the leaders had answers and if not… It was troublesome to think they had waited this long to tell the people about what was happening.

Draven
Post 2

Draven approached the back of the crowd as the elders, he supposed that that was what they were. Area leaders for the most part, he stopped close to someone else who was accompanied by a large canine looking companion. Regale himself regarded the winged beast with golden eyes before turning his head away, head raising up to scour the area. He didn't seem the least bit interested in the thing of fluff and feathers.

Draven himself glanced over, never really seeing one before. But as always he didn't interact with others the greatest, he was still a bit secluded. With the sounds from the other side of the throng of people he couldn't help, but wander closer, pulling back his hood to let some cooler air waft around his head.

"So do you know what is going on?" he asked simply, turning his head slightly to glance at Makani. Though the question from before nearly missed him. "Regale is a Janarim, we're both from the south. Where the climate is a lot warmer then this." Not that he didn't mind the cold, but Draven and Regale missed the tropical weather of Matori.

Nuawahn was oblivious. Perhaps he preferred to be that way. Maybe he'd just seen so much bad in his short life that he had to turn it completely around and make things good. He had a lot of good to give, a wide smile for everyone, indeed.

He wove through the crowd, eventually stopping at a total stranger who looked like he was especially upset. "Hello!" he said to Rhag'na, as he passed the iceling at random, "I like your hood! And your hair is so bushy! Hi!" he said.

"Then" she continued quietly, "We investigate on our own." They were more mobile than the others and - objectively speaking - more competent. Or more likely to be competent.

That was enough plan for now. She glanced at her brother, raising an eyebrow at him. "You realize, Arron, that she is a married woman?" she said, with just a tiny flavoring of wryness in her voice, "That's what father says - married to an Oban." Her gaze moved along the rest of the listeners, sharp and assessing.

Hybrid. Wind Ice. Healer or? she squinted at Makani, Why are his eyes closed? A smile? a ruse? Who is he talking to?

She assessed Draven too. Younger? Pale skin, dark hair, dark crystals. Is that...? dark eyes blinked.

"Arron, there is a janarim over there." It was so strange to see them, in a place so ill suited to them. Something inside her, some small bit of her that was her mother's daughter (or perhaps the part of her that was blood-kin to Ruelash), wanted to hunt it. To test it's ferocity against her own.

Her gaze drifted further to Prala... White hair. Dark skin. Shifter and... leaf? Or wind? Too light for Oban...

"Many hybrids here." she added. If she and her brother were not so tall (and still growing), they would fit right in. "And that one..." she whispered, pointing to Sol, "Has alkidike blood." Very obviously. The antennae were a dead givaway. He might be a good person to investigate further - hybrids, like themselves, often had to learn more and see more by necessity. And... for sheer novelty value. It wouldn't be bad to meet other part-alkidike, after all.

She filed all of that aside for later, falling quiet, her communication done for the time being.

Sol - 3

Holding hands with a stranger wasn't particularly high on Sol's goals for the day, but treating the problem now while it was a minor annoyance was better than handling a half-frozen foreigner.

At first, his attention was so caught up in what the leaders might say that he didn't notice just how close the other man had come. He turned, noticed it and immediately looked away, lifting his hand to pull his hood down just a smidge. He wouldn't deny the guy warmth, but did he have to be so close? At the thank you he merely grunted, possibly murmured a 'you're welcome'. Maybe.

Rhag'na 3

Rhag’na’s grip on his sword tightened when the stranger spoke to him, he immediately tried to cover his face by turned. He narrowed his eyes at the man almost wishing he would combust into thin air right there and then.

“Not so loud,” he hissed at him. This was exactly why he didn’t like going out of Zena! All these strange people that had no idea about darn privacy. And then when the man was close enough, Rhag’na grabbed onto his arm and pulled him in front of him so that he had his back to the crowd while facing the stranger. No one would be able to tell it was him.

Ziel 3

Ziel grabbed one of her braids and began undoing it. This was one of her habits when she was nervous. This was perhaps one of the rare times she would rather be at home to check on her parents, she didn’t know how they were and it gave her anxiety. She hoped this would be voer quickly so she could return to them promptly.

Prala || Post 3

Prala's face paled at the speaker's words. It had been a long time since she'd had to worry about losing someone she cared about, she'd held herself back from growing close to anyone for years not realizing she had been protecting herself, but as she thought of Sulyn and Taos a part of her wanted to immediately set out and make sure they were still safe in Ashe, unaffected by whatever was causing this madness. Her heart clenched as she waited for the rest of the news.

Chapter 9: Grave Expectations

|| IC ||

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Freya's icy gaze swept through the crowd. Some seemed concerned, some seemed scared, some... not so much. She raised her voice over the crowd, starting again, this time with bravado to her voice. She needed to make sure that the people of Zena and Sauti understood the gravity of the situation. "There have been disappearances throughout the area. And unfortunately, they have increased in frequency as they have progressed. We need to make sure everyone is safe."

Vescillea raised an eyebrow while Freya spoke. She really did mean the whole truth, now didn't she? Freya seemed to look to Vescillea for additional support. With a nod of her head, she approved. "I've been to the areas myself to scout and try to find some clue as to who has taken them or where they've gone. So far we have counted over seven missing." Vescillea started, her fingers playing with the bow in her hands before she continued. "There doesn't seem to be a reason for these particular earthlings to be picked, they're not related, there doesn't seem to be anything connecting them, and the one thing they have in common is that they seem to have vanished. There are no tracks."

Freya put a hand on Vescillea's shoulders. She didn't want to scare the others, but she approved. They needed to know the truth. "We suggest everyone travels in groups, or pairs at the least. Whomever this is only seems to be targeting individuals traveling alone."

Makani - Post 3

"Ahhh, a janarim? I can't say that I've run into one of those before." A comment that brought a bit of a smile to his lips since it was a joke that only he'd get at the moment. Instantly he found himself curious about what a janarim might be like. It seemed big from what he gathered, had to be intimidating as well since Rae didn't much seem to want to get any closer then they already were. Must be an interesting beast indeed.

His ear twitched as a more distant voice spoke of a janarim as well. Were they interested in the same one or a different one? Seemed it had to be a rather popular beast then, huh? He'd have to check one out once he was able to find one friendly enough to do so. He tilted his head toward the voice for a moment before turning his attention back to the one he was chatting with once more.

He set to considering the question posed to him by the nearby man and said, "What's going on? Hmmm... how to explain" He really wasn't sure but a moment later the elders broke in and spoke up, telling them exactly what it was that was going on in detail. Thank Chi for that small bit of help he thought to himself. At least until he heard in detail what was going on.

Making a small motion with his hand he said, "I would say that is about what is going on. I'm curious as to how I am going to get back to where I live if they are so certain that people need to travel in groups... I might have to try to hitch a ride on a caravan or something. This is news that my sister will want to know sooner then later." Getting stuck like this in Zena was definitely not a part of the plan that was him coming here to learn what was going on. He'd have to figure this out and get home soon or else his sister wasn't going to be too pleased with him. In fact she'd likely end up the opposite... and it had him wondering if this would cause even more people to end up at the inn or make visitors more scarce. Hard to say at the moment he supposed.

Arron Post 5
His sister was right of course. They would be better off investigating this matter without the crowd of people.

"Is she? To an Oban too, pity. I'm better off with someone my own age anyway."

Arron looed at the huge creature that his sister had mentioned, they were so sexy, like the radaku of home but supersized and armor plated, he wanted one.

His own gaze followed his sister's until it too settled on Sol. He felt instant kinship with that male, even if only his eyebrows, height and eyes gave him away for an Alk mix himself.

"I want to meet him, what better chance would we get?" Arron sighed in frustration, hybrids they may be, but he and his siblings seemed so different from everyone. Not for the first time did he wish to be able to read his sister's mind.

Then the sexy iceling was talking again, but not really giving them much information at all. This only served to make him more frustrated. A warning not to go anywhere alone, simple.

"Care to set a trap sister?"

His eyes rested on Prala a moment, she was pretty too, as was Ziel.

He did notice the confounded healer too, it was hard not to notice him, the one who had let everyone know that his little sister Ruulu was going to be a thing. He shuddered. He wanted to slow everything down so he could analyze all of the information that was coming in on a tidal wave. He also wanted to speed things up so that they could get going. Not for the first time he suspected that he carried two separate personalities with him; his mother and his father.
