Aurora was just relaxing watching the torti run across the sand digging their holes and living their lives, she really liked the pink and yellow torti that she was watching dig a new hole in the sand. She wished she could take that one home, but as the host had said there was no guarantee that a torti would choose you or which one would choose you if you were chosen. Aurora knew this there were many times she was chosen by a familiar not the other way around. Familiars were intelligent creatures. Any nightmare or daydream should count them lucky to be picked.

Aedus turned to Nashira and said "Yes I think they are amazing and wonder all those questions myself, also I was just wondering what they were thinking, do you think they think of their families and their survival?? Worrying if tomorrow will come?? The host said they were in the ruins accidentally destroying things, I wonder if any are still there in danger." He pondered Aedus didn't like the idea of any familiar in harm's way. His worry for the torti showed on his face, scarred as it might have been. His left eye missing and a scar from claw marks over his right eye. "So which one is your favorite??" He asked Nashira trying to lighten his mood from his dark thoughts.

Coco was still with Kayla Sue as she watched the torti popping in and out of the sand, it was great fun to watch, though she wondered what she would need to do to make the torti comfortable in the academy if took them home with her. Perhaps someone should build a torti resort to fill with lots of sand so the torti would feel at home somewhere in the Asphodel Gardens Academy area. After all she wasn't sure if a torti would be happy living under her bed at the dorm unable to dig anywhere. Also she wondered if they would like digging in the dirt rather than sand.

One of the torti has stuck its head out of the ground and started to walk in the general direction of a student. The director hurries over to Aedus, crooning excitedly as she crouches to get closer to the ground, where the small tortoise is picking its way across the sand. She says, "The gem-crusted torti are a very intelligent species of tortoise, you know! If this one is picking you out, it's doing it on purpose."

Kiessi was quite excited to be able to spot a few of the strange familiars moving among some brush. They weren't quite sure how or why they came to have so many gems on their back, but it was quite beautiful! They couldn't wait to tell their siblings all about them!

The director became very excited when she saw that yet another person was being approached by a tort - it seemed that the attempt to acclimate the familiars to people was working well! She ran over to Nashira, offering a piece of lettuce to try to give to the tort as a treat. "The torti are currently endangered due to living in the harsh conditions of the Swirling Storms Desert, combined with the recent disruption of the Swirling Storms stopping. We're hoping to breed them and send them out into the world as familiars so they can grow their population."

The director then turned Odessa, who was being watched by an older tortoise with some babies around it. One of the babies began crawling toward Odessa. "The torti can live longer than any race or familiar species in Above and Below, from what we've been able to observe. There is a legend that says that there are some torti who were born before the world itself."
