shikoba - pt 1 - sun

"HELL YEAH!" Shik crowed as the wrestling began. Gnash was tough, as expected, but the thrill of fighting an intelligent animal was well worth the scrapes he received.

shikoba - pt 1 - sun

Even if they had allowed weapons for some ******** up reason, Shik would have preferred to go barehanded. There was something to be said about using only his god given strength to do something for once.

Alright, so technically the strength came from Fear anyway, but shut up, DeVour.

shikoba - pt 1 - sun

It was just when the getting was good that he heard a sharp whistle from one of the watchers. Oh s**t right, he supposed he needed to stop before Gnash's neck was broken or something...Certainly not his, oh no, he had been doing just peachy throughout the fight, exertion be damned.

shikoba - pt 1 - life

His blood was pumping, the sweat delicious, the bits of fur between his fingers and on his clothes easy to brush off. Shikoba was in a very satisfied mood as he walked away from the bear, huffing in breaths of air and alternatively laughing to himself as he did so. It was one off the bucket list for sure, though next time he wanted to actually secure a kill that way. Maybe he could find an excuse that would let him go out to the forest to wrestle a wild bear or something...

He almost missed that there was one section left. For Life, Shik had figured it was going to be involving minipets, their favorite guinea pigs next to unsuspecting hunters. Instead, it was...paperwork.

"You've got to be kidding me," he grumbled as he fell into the chair and eyed the mounds of paperwork for him to sift through. It wasn't that Shik wasn't used to doing so--it came with the territory of being a specialized hunter--but he didn't like it at all and tried to avoid it. Still, Shaheen had been more diligent than he was, and it seemed it had rubbed off on him some; the work went by pretty quickly, all things considered.

[ Maple - part one - Death exercise ]

All in all, Maple was glad that the meeting and having to hide from engaging in conversations like those had been put to an end for the time being; at least the quarter, now she just had to deal with personal interactions from here on out. Possibly smaller groups, nothing like the whole gaggle of her peers all at once. There was an evaluation to be had now, sure, but at least she would be able to put her best foot forward and just concentrate on the work.

Which she liked doing. Talking not so much.

Part of her wondered if she should have suspected that the very first part of the assessment would be actually getting to the location itself. Given the directive of each of the divisions, it really shouldn't have been a surprise to be handed a cryptic note.

Her brown eyes scanned the document, mouth moving as she silently read the jumbled mess of words as her gaze darted about to make heads or tales of where she was supposed to go. Eventually her finger glossing the surface had to come into play before she finally figured it out.
(A little disappointed in herself that it had taken as long as it had).

[ Maple - part one - Moon exercise ]

A low long drawn out sound of despair rumbled through her throat when she saw the Moon portion of the assessment. Her brows pushed together and she nearly pouted. How tempting it was to just bribe he way out of this particular exercise (but she knew she should probably hold off, Sun was probably going to be much worse).

Maple sighed, a little dramatically as she got into place and summoned her weapon in her hand.

Perhaps it was the sound she was making or how she had nearly closed her eyes when she saw one of the new trainees make a run for her. But their attempt nearly didn't register at all, clearly she had seen them come at her which made it obvious that it had already begun before she was ready (would she really ever have been? Oh how she would have wanted to stall). Maple's head picked up, scanning about and spotted the trainee trudging off to allow someone else to go.

The next one hit her like a how awful she imagined it would be to be struck by a truck. But somehow even her small frame managed to hold the line. She might have had to hop a few steps backwards but somehow she managed to hold it. Along with the third advance that felt like being pummeled by a bull.

Maple was unsure how she managed any of that.

Now, she had to go after a bear. Without her weapon. With a sigh, Maple dispelled Rose from her side to comply with the rules for the next part of the course. Yes, it was still tempting to bribe this part as well since she really didn't want to do it but... then again, she did have to buy more books later. Because so many had been ruined.

With a pout, Maple went more on the defensive and only struck at the bear when it seemed it would get the big thing away from her.

The tactic wasn't really the best thing to go with since the bear clearly was already having the upper hand attack wise. It always managed to hit her while she seemed to get only pot shots in.

[ Maple - part one - Sun exercise ]

Something inside her came out in a ball of fury and limbs or something. Perhaps anguish or just wanting to get the trial over with. Whatever it was, Maple finally went on the attack or at least counterattack. The bear managed another swipe against her shield but she grabbed it by the arm before it managed to hobble away, flipped it over her with... some sort of strength and tossed him over her to the ground.

Gnash lay there on the ground, its paws making the motion like it was stuck like a turtle. Maple bounced backwards in worry of a retaliation until someone actually cleared her for a pass. - What?

[ Maple - part one - Life exercise ]

The first first thing that Maple did when she got to the table was organize. Or at least tidied up the pile of papers so they didn't look like they had just been dumped their haphazardly - which they probably were. To her logical mind, getting it into a tighter pile would allow her to go through each and every single paper at a much better rate; a clean desk was a happy desk after all.

Next it was organizing each sheet subject wise so it was easier to read through, so she could write a more coherent report.

This was where the bulk of her work ethic honestly went. Cleaning - even if she didn't get extra points for doing such. It had taken her longer than probably they wanted because of the need to organize it. Either way, she got through everything anyways even if it was at her own pace.

[ Maple - part two - Death exercise ]

Research was almost Maple's livelihood. The longer she could stay tucked in the library for any amount of time undisturbed was the ideal way of life, the way she wanted to be found useful on the island that she had begun to grow unsure of if she really truly fit. She, after all, was not made of tougher stuff and barely even wanted to hold her weapon in her hands to defend or fight across the front lines. Books was all she ever wanted to be with.

Rose, at least, wasn't the worst of companions. Sweet in demeanor and respectful of many of her wishes for peace and tranquility. And from time to time would be encouraging in a not too forceful manner. It had been a few years of grown respect, routine and getting along after all. (But even Maple could sometimes feel the reaper get restless in her head).

But now Maple got to return to what she knew, the old and faithful of information and the home away from home. Even though it was a home much further away from home than she had intended to go.

The brunette Hunter had been tasks with going to the human world, after all, so the database on witch practices could be updated. The recent files having been ruined in the recent flood and hurricane conditions that had struck the island. Wicca, spiritual uprisings and what was considered pagan beliefs always seemed to go in flux and trends that it seemed almost yearly someone had to go figure out what was going on. Of course, this lead Maple to the library in order to see what was going on even though it probably was the best choice. But, it was familiar.

< You should try their computers, don't they have the intranets as well? > Rose suggested. < I doubt their books will be very informative dear, probably the same amount of information you have at Deus. >

The reaper had a point, Maple realized and decided to veer towards the rows of set up computers and began immediately to Google and search for trends and whatever she could find. It only took a few minutes for her notebook to fly open and her hand to write down notes of her inquiries. Crystals, apparently, were very in right now (though, how that helped against Halloween or the Horsemen she was unsure) and the internet, especially art websites apparently seemed to favor drawing witches in an adorable manner. Gone seemed those of gore, sacrifices and blood rituals. Now they wore bright colors, happy faces with sound effects and had affinities for things like cake and candy.

Sure, there were still those of traditional witches, but they seemed to be over run with the new. It was all very odd to see, odd to write down and Maple was unsure how to transfer the imagery for Deus to use - did she bring a flash drive? No. She copied them as best she could along with the additional information on crystals and beliefs that many of the witches of this new age seem to believe.

< You should see if you can find someone to talk to, that would be interesting. > Again, rose made a suggestion which Maple shook her head to. There was no time for that, was her excuse. And frankly she just wasn't good at interviewing. The internet seemed to give her all she needed to know for now.

A few hours later, the girl was done with her task. For now, at least, a growing subject that always seemed to change and perhaps she would later return to it.

[ Ignacio - Deciphering ]

What was this supposed to mean?

Ignacio felt like he was looking at a set of instructions in a different language. Maybe it was a language from the Horsemen, or something. He had no idea what any of these strange clues were attempting to tell him. Was this supposed to be some sort of guide? It felt like it was meant just to confuse him further instead of helping him get to where he needed to go.

Ignacio huffed.

He turned the paper over a few times in case there was some decryption mechanism on the back of it, but of course there wasn't. Why would there be? No, Ignacio would need to take the time to sit down, take out a piece of paper, and attempt to interpret what all of this meant one line at a time.

Yay.

He spun his pencil around in one hand while he went through the instructions line by line, eventually managing to piece together what each line was supposed to mean. As he went on, it got easier. One clue made more sense than the last, and it felt like they were properly building on each other. Soon, he got up off his butt and started off in the direction he had been told, interpreting the clues as he continued on his path.

Eventually, he figured out where he was going without the cryptic instructions, considering he was fairly familiar with the island by now. Crumpling up the paper and shoving it back in his pocket, Ignacio used his knowledge to get himself the rest of the way to the Training Course.

Awesome! Now what...

[ Ignacio - I Am The Wall ]

Now he had to literally act like a wall while other Hunters charged at him?

Ignacio wasn't sure if he liked the sound of that, but by the same token, he was positive he was ready for the challenge. He gave a confident grin, summoning his weapon and placing it horizontally in front of him to act as a better barrier. He also spread his legs apart to give himself a more ready stance, just for good measure.

A more ready stance helped, but he was still smashed into with a force he wasn't entirely expecting. He took one step back, and then another, but he never fell back and he was still confidently standing. Ignacio winked. "You'll have to try harder than that!"

His next opponent clearly didn't listen to him at all, considering the next hit he hardly even noticed. He knew someone brushed against him, considering he saw them brush against him, but it felt like nothing more than a brush, and that time he didn't even move an inch. It raised his confidence a bit, and Ignacio inappropriately cackled at the fact that he was still kept in one spot. "Nice try!"

Except it wasn't at all. That was a terrible try.

He rolled his shoulders and crouched his body down in a defensive stance to get ready for the last hit. Perhaps that was a mistake, as it apparently gave the charger the leverage to knock him back another two steps. It was alright, though; in the end, Ignacio was still standing, and he never truly gave up the line.

Now he had to ... fight the division leader's bear?

Was that the best idea?

Perhaps assuming that he would do too much damage, Ignacio gave a rather weak punch to the bear. Unfortunately for Ignacio, the bear hit much harder back, and he winced. Alright. Maybe he did need to try fighting the bear.

This time, Ignacio was much more ready to actually fight against the bear, seeing as it had a bit of a harder hit than he was expecting. Or maybe it was just able to take more than he was expecting.

Once the bear swiped at him again, Ignacio charged forward, slamming his fist into the side of its jaw. That definitely made a mark, and Ignacio grinned confidently at himself, before realizing maybe he shouldn't get overconfident and ducked to the side.
