Fleade post 16

Fleade shook her head. "I'm not sure trust should really be gained by anyone. It gives them the greatest ability to hurt you..." She spoke some from forgiveness and partially of her own actions. She had her mentors trust and she left him to die, and now his family hated her.

"It's funny how yours are more a reminder of protection while mine are more of cowardice. I ran instead of using them, multiple times. I don't know what the outcome would have been if I had stayed and fought. But whenever I see them. It reminds me of how much of a coward I've been. And it makes me want to do better, but I'm not sure that I can."

Keelthy post 16

"Mine too, remind me of cowardice. If I were truly strong enough, I would never have tried to be with my family again. I would have taken my brother and explored the world, but no, I wanted their approval, their acceptance and in the end it is MY acceptance that matters. Now I see them and resent that I didn't believe myself worth it..but it was my Parents that I didn't want to loose. I couldn't leave them, my father who will never understand why his brothers are so evil. My mother who asked for nothing but her son."

Fleade post 17

"It's not a bad thing to want your parents approval...their acceptance. It's not wrong. You just have to realize when enough is enough and sometimes be realistic." His home life seemed tragic which was a shame. She at least had a good family, Fleade just didn't know how to go back to them and tell them all the things she had done, and not done.

"We're different, but in the same way...I think. " Fleade said hesitantly. He had suffered the brutality of his own people while she had suffered it as well, but both in different ways. She wondered, just then, how he was still able to be around his own people when they treat him as such.

Keelthy post 17

"It was my uncles mostly that had the problem with me, my parents at least loved me, they were the reason I came back and fought to be a part of this family." It was weird talking to her while in his normal clothes, he was used to being in costume when talking to others, where they saw his body first and the man second. He kind of liked this.

"Who best to understand each other then." He picked up one of the daggers and pricked one of his fingers watching the blood well. “Change hurts, trust can hurt more than change."

Fleade post 18

It was interesting that his uncles could lose force such a change. Fleade felt bad that his parents weren't strong enough to keep him in their lives despite the man's uncles. She nodded at his statement. "This is true, too true unfortunately. I..." She paused and looked away slightly. How was she supposed to say what she was thinking? How was she supposed to even put into words how she was feeling? Confused. "I'm glad you're different." She said quickly, with a slight blush on her face as she looked down and away from his gaze.

Keelthy post 18

He dipped his head at her. "Me too." She was one of the first to tell him so outright, of course she couldn't know how much the statement meant to him, a validation of the hard work he had put in to himself to keep himself from becoming just like his uncles. It was a struggle in Oba to stay true to himself surrounded by so many other Obans. It was at home in his room which his uncles and most of the family dared not enter that he could relax...and now his room was full of iceling. And he would have it no other way. She might be the connection to the outside world that he needed, she might be able to engender enough courage in him that he need not dither overmuch on his choices. Or he was blowing all of this out of proportion and she was just another being in the universe swirled close to him by the gods who liked to dip their fingers in on a whim. He stood awkwardly in the semi silence. He quite simply was unsure what to do.

Fleade post 19

Fleade too, sat awkwardly in the silence. She wasn't sure what she should say. Twirling a stray piece of hair around a finger of her left hand, she eyed him for a moment as she decided the best course of action.

"Do...you think I could stay here a bit longer? Just....until I have full use of my arm. If it wouldn't be too much trouble." Fleade's voice was quiet and hesitant. It was alot to ask of someone but she couldn't seem to find it in her to not ask.

Keelthy post 19

"You can stay as long as you like," he himself had wanted to tell her that but he didn't want to remind her that she could leave just in case she took it to mean he was tired of having her here. His mind was king of convoluted like that some days. He rubbed his neck. "The house is plenty big enough." He blinked and left the room, "I'll be right back."

He returned soon after with books, stories, non fiction, he didn't even know if she liked to read. But... "Seeing as you can't use that arm all that well yet, I brought you these to help stave off the boredom." He patted the top one full of stories from all the lands. "This is a personal favorite, I hope you enjoy it."

Fleade post 20

She smiled slightly as he said she could stay. Fleade knew she probably shouldn't be so happy to be able to stay in an obans house but she couldn't help it. This was one of the safest places she'd felt in a long time. As he left and returned with books she thumbed through a few titles.

"I had meant to ask...is this your room? I hadn't really thought about it until now but I'm not....invading your space....am I?" It was an odd thing to worry about, especially with an oban. But, from what she had gathered of him and the things in the room it seemed entirely possible.

Keelthy post 20

"Yes it is, but it is also a good thing because the only person brave enough to come in here is my brother and he would rather stab himself in the foot than hurt you. Of course I haven't let him stick his big head in here to gawk at you either." He had spent some time sleeping next door in Reill's room listening to him snore and in the dead of night he slept in front of her door just in case the younglings got curious. Or the oldbys for that matter.

He felt better protecting her, against those that had hurt him in the past for some reason it came with a sense of great fulfillment.

Fleade post 21

Fleade dipped get head as he confirmed her theory. "I don't want to displace you. You've done enough for me I don't want to keep you away from your things. I...Maybe I should go instead..." It seemed to her that she was making his life pretty difficult, and for once, that was something she didn't want. Nor did she really want to make anybody have to take care of her.

Fleade stood and turned so that her back was to Keelthy, showing a form of comfort and trust to leave herself so vulnerable. "You've done enough for me, I shouldn't just stay here and take advantage of that because...because I feel comfortable. " Her slight blush was now covering her whole face and the tips of her ears.

Keelthy post 21

"It...it brings me joy that you feel comfortable in a city that by all rights should make you feel the opposite. Please stay." He wanted to reach for her but he knew that to touch her with her back to him would be a violation of the trust she was showing him. "You are here as my guest and on my honor no one will disturb your peace and tranquility. If you have wish to visit the market or anything I will be available to escort you and my brother as well if you wish it so."

Fleade post 22

There was hesitation in her, should she really stay? Fleade knew what she wanted to do but she also knew that it wasn't really the right thing to do. Turning back to him, she was confused and it was written all over her face.

"It's not me that I'm worried about. You've already helped me more than anyone has before. I don't want to take advantage of...of your kindness." She wondered if he understood that, surely he must. "Is...there anything I can do to even begin thanking you for saving my life?" Those were words she never thought she'd say to an oban.

Keelthy post 22

"Really its nothing, I'd rather know you were safe, here, then somewhere out there still somewhat injured with no protection other than your own. You owe me nothing, I feel better knowing that I helped someone out, that is the gift I get from this." And conversations with someone else very like him, which he had never found before. That too was a gift.

He hoped she would stay, for a while longer at the least. He had become used to her presence and would feel a loss were it to disappear. He just didn't want to communicate that to her lest it make her run screaming. He shouldn't be attached to this woman who hated his kind even though he was different. Would liking him not go against everything she stood for?

Fleade post 23

Sighing, she smiled slightly before going and sitting back on the bed. "Thank you. Really..." It was an odd thing for her, just hearing the words coming out of her mouth. Even she knew it was rediculous that all of her anger and hatred had just fizzled out so quickly with the kindness of one oban. Perhaps deep down she knew it was the hatred at her own actions that fueled that fire. And now, moving past that, she was also able to move past her own prejudice.

"I really don't mind moving to a different room though...as long as it has a lock. I don't want to keep you from your things. I'm sorry if I've inconvenienced you." Fleade almost wanted to hit her head into a wall for how silly she must be looking to him right then. Seriously, what was up with her, she thought to herself. She shook her head slightly trying to clear it and focus.

"So you said you dance?" Fleade smiled slightly, "when I was first learning how to use these swords, my mentor used dance to help me be more fluid in my movements and strokes." Ethelfleade wasn't sure where exactly she was going with it but maybe it was a topic they could connect on besides their screwed up pasts.
