If Chance was someone less attuned to Otto's abysmal eating habits, he would have probably attempted to take one of the bag of chips or one of the burgers away. As it was, he merely gave them a pointed look, lips pressing together as though fighting a smile.
He added an apple, debated a secondary bag of chips himself, then grabbed a yogurt at the last second and followed Otto to the table.
"Tell me something," said Chance, as he slid into the seat across from Otto - easier to talk to him that way. "How exactly do you stay as thin as you do when you eat like you do?"

Otto had already shoved the burger into his mouth as Chance began to speak, giving the man across from him a wide eyed, chipmunk-cheeked look. He had the decency to at least finish his mouthful of food before answering. "Spars, training in the gym.. skateboarding down the railings of the stairs, doin' laps around the dorm building and the training fields.." He listed these off, licking a small dob of ketchup from the corner of his mouth in between. "I also like trainin' on the cliffs by climbin' up and down them. Never know when ya might fall off a cliff on a mission." He took another healthy bite of his food. "I mean.. I don't do all that s**t every day, but I do at least one of 'em a few times a week."

He almost laughed, reigned it in, and picked up his own burger, eating it at a slightly less frenzied pace than a certain someone.
"I forgot how active you were," said Chance dryly, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "I mean, I suppose it's not entirely surprising, though you do a good impression of a lazy a** when you're curled up in bed with twelve pillows and sixteen blankets and a gaming thingy."
He couldn't remember the last time he'd been to the cliffs. Chance set his burger down and reached for his chips, tugging open the bag.
"Have you ever fallen off a cliff while on a mission?" he asked curiously.

Otto simply shrugged, pleased with himself and the level of hermit-like lounging he was capable of. "Gotta have a balance, dude." More likely he just really like being a burrito when he was tired or pouting. "Besides, I don't see you complainin' when you sleep over. Tell me you ever been in a more comfortable bed than mine." He boasted this with an unusual amount of pride, even if it was possible Chance preferred a standard amount of pillows and blankets on his own bed. Otto polished off one burger, already reaching for another with no slowing down. Evidently he'd been in that library for a very long time. "Hmm... can't remember. Maybe?" He felt like he might have at some point. He was certain he'd fallen from a great height once or twice before. But it was difficult to separate nightmares from realities nowadays. "You ever fallen off a cliff?" He asked curiously. "I did fall off a sinking cruise ship once. Drowned. Almost, anyway. I think someone pulled me out, but I can't remember."

Whether or not Otto actually had a balance remained to be seen. Chance popped a few chips into his mouth and grinned across the table at him. "Okay, you're not wrong," he said dryly. "Your bed is comfortable, less of piece of cardboard than mine."
That, and the added bonus of a warm Otto, but that was beside the point. Chance finished off the bag of chips and reached for his salad even as Otto was reaching for his second burger.
"I've never fallen off a cliff, no - wait, you fell off a cruise ship? Here, or was that pre-island life?"

"Then don't diss the collection, or else you sleep on the floor." A flat out lie, since Otto much preferred Chance in bed with him as opposed to uncomfortable on his floor. Or worse, opting out of sleeping over at all. "It was a mission." Otto affirmed, taking a seemingly delicious bite from his burger. "In the Ocean somewhere. I bought a $2000 suit while I was on it, and it got ruined from the salt water." He grumbled, lamenting the loss. "Damn ********' dress code."

"Rude," said Chance, even if he really didn't mean it, either. He poured a generous helping of ranch dressing onto his salad and stuck his fork into it, swirling everything around.
"You had a mission....in the ocean, where you bought a ridiculous suit and then almost drowned," Chance affirmed. "Uh huh. That's - why would you buy a suit worth that much? You don't even wear suits. I would have thought that you would want to buy like...an entire buffet of food."
It was said with the greatest amount of affection and amusement, Chance's brows raising.

"I told you." Otto accosted Chance with an eye roll, "There was a dress code; and I didn't have any suits. So I bought one on the boat. They only had fancy s**t, and I wanted to be the ******** fanciest." He huffed, taking another massive bite of his food. He eventually polished off the burger, taking a short break from eating to open his can of pop. "Besides. The food was free." He paled then, remembering something he'd long since buried. "But then we.. found out the food was... spiders.." Otto set down his drink and looked like he might throw up suddenly. " After I already ate it..."

Chance gave a slow nod of understanding. "So were you the ******** fanciest?" he asked, barely concealing a smile as he finished off his somewhat meager salad. "I don't actually remember ever wearing a suit...maybe at a funeral or something when I was a kid."
It was hard to remember. Chance tapped his fork against the plate and made a face at the mention of spiders.
"That's disgusting," he said, nose wrinkling. "I've heard of a lot of strange missions everyone's been on - hell, I've been on a few myself - but that's really ******** disgusting."

Otto swallowed hard, pushing his very full tray away. "Turned out the whole ship was like... decades old already and the home of ghosts and a sea monster.. so the food we ate was.. past due." He needed a moment before he could process food again as he recalled it all. "We didn't see it till we got some magic tablet that showed it all for what it was." His face went pale once more. "I might've... fainted in front of people I respect..."

Otto wasn't big on public displays of affection, and neither was Chance, really; but he reached across the table anyway and gently took ahold of one of Otto's hands, twining their fingers together.
"It was a long time ago, right?" he said, and gave the fingers he held a light squeeze. "Don't worry, you're still the badass little s**t I remember."
A smile flickered across Chance's face.
"Besides, I'm pretty sure anyone would faint at something like that, that's creepy as s**t."

Otto gave a small nod, his lip twitching at the corner in lieu of a smile. "Yeah. Just turns my stomach." The spiders more than the fainting. But still. He let their fingers lace together for a while as he let the nausea of his memories fade away. He gave a soft sigh and let it all wash over his shoulders. "But.. yeah. I was the fanciest there." He affirmed as he gained his appetite back, just in time to break open the cupcake package. "I wore suits back before Deus, cause Dad told me to be a pallbearer sometimes. Obviously not often. I hate suits. They ain't comfortable."

"It turns my stomach a little too, and I wasn't even there," said Chance with a grimace, giving Otto's hand a last squeeze before he pulled his own away again, picking up the apple.
"Pallbearer." Chance's gaze flickered over to Otto. "It's hard to imagine you in anything other than what you are now, to be honest. You're not...exactly the pallbearing type if you know what I mean. Suits aren't so bad, at least I don't think so, but I just wear what I wear."
His shoulders rose and fell in a casual shrug. What he was wearing today consisted of a pair of jeans for once, instead of leggings, and an oversized, starry white sweater over a black tank top. It was perfectly comfortable, Chance taking a large bite of his apple and chewing slowly.
"You gonna share those cupcakes?"

"I wore a suit to a few dances here too. I still have some just in case." After all, he wasn't opposed to looking good if he had to. He simply preferred comfort over much else. His sporty style had evolved rather smoothly from when he'd first come to the island up to this point. A mix of ease of movement and hard-rock influence somehow blending together despite the contrast. "But there's only two." Otto said in complete deadpan, staring at Chance without faltering. He let that sink in for a minute before softly setting one of them in front of Chance.

"Wait." Chance held up a hand, trying - and failing - to stop himself from smiling. "There were dances? Here? Dances on Deus, where we spend most of our time trying not to die and being attacked by giant creatures and vines and all sorts of s**t, and there were dances?"
He was kind of - a lot - amused. Chance met Otto's unwavering gaze with a raised eyebrow of his own, waiting.
And waiting.
Until the cupcake was carefully set in front of him. Chance's smile was very bright.
"Thank you for your contribution to society," he said in a deadpan of his own, plucking up the cupcake."
