"I deserve to WIN. For ONCE." he said, baring his teeth.

As the destruction ebbed away, the old reasons for kindness and for being a good person all slid right back into place as if they had never left. There was so much blood.

His eyes filled with tears, but this time as he reached for the other man it was the desperate grab of someone who wanted to undo what had been done, who saw nothing but a world where he'd become his father, where he'd ended up as everything he never wanted to be.

"Oh god, oh god I'm so sorry, I'm sorry, you need to go to the infirmary, you need to get help. You'll be all right. Please please please be all right."

The gesture was met with a weak attempt to fend off Mikael, a hand that tried to slap away help. "Go- away-" he didn't even manage to finish the sentence, "You're still - sick-"

He managed as far as to pick himself up one more time before collapsing, darker blood pooling from the attempt. He didn't move.

Mik was distraught, completely and utterly. They were going to find him for this and they'd either kill him or put him in jail, probably the first one. But he couldn't let the guy die. He couldn't.

Leaning down he took hold of him, carrying him as carefully as he could in his arms and running in the direction of the infirmary. It didn't matter what happened to him, it just mattered that his helper was all right.

"PLEASE HELP HIM." he yelled to anyone who would listen.

It was really unfortunate that Lawrence was on duty right then, and extra unfortunate that he was one of the first on the scene.

Carl's arm was still coated in blood, but the damage seemed to stem around his chest, his shirt and jacket in dire need of replacement, as one of the smaller issues on the list of many. For a moment, it seemed like Mik had unironically shot right at his heart, but the lack of cardiac arrest made no sense-

- although with sharper eyes it was less creating a new wound and more re-opening an old scar that had cleanly pierced his chest, probably easily tearing through the skin tissue. It was mostly a shallow wound, though currently, the heavy hemorrhaging had spread across one lung that was beginning to collapse.

There was a split second where Lawrence smiled directly at Mikael in something that could have been mistaken for pride, before snapping into action. He wasn't the only one helping Carl, he wouldn't have been allowed to be for a start, Sunny made sure of that, but he nevertheless snapped into action, assessing the mess.

When they had a handle on it the major issue was hemopneumothorax and they had to get a drain in as soon as possible, as well as doing what they could to stem the injuries. It was going to be close and he'd lost a lot of blood already. It'd be surgery immediately to even have a chance.

Mikael got left behind as Carl was taken off, still covered in blood. He didn't know where to go, feeling helpless as he just sat on one of the chairs in the infirmary and simply waited.

About thirty minutes later, a very derelict sort of man wearing the Death division coat, no pants apparently, and a crumpled t-shirt showed up. Thankfully he still had his Yoda boxers on.

Mark looked around, and then at all the Hunters trying to very fastidiously ignore them, and then at Mikael. "Hey kid, you seen another kid come by? Kind of short, like shorter than you, glasses, really angry all the time."

Mikael only looked up when he was addressed and in his utter despair didn't seem to notice the fact that the scruffy guy looked like he'd just fallen out of bed. He looked at his hands, which he hadn't washed at all the whole time he'd sat there waiting on his judgement.

"I think I killed him." he said.

"Oh good," Mark sighed deeply though it wasn't exactly clear if he was being sarcastic or not, "that's like literally the fourth person in the past few days. Maybe if people didn't get themselves taking all the things all the time they wouldn't get into trouble when it backfired."

Having gotten that off his chest, the Death Assistant paused, holding up a hand. "I need to pee, I'll be right back."

It was about five minutes at the guy still wasn't back. A Mist Hunter did however, walk by, stopping by Mikael, the only person in the corridor. "You okay, sweetie?"

She had a red butterfly tattoo on her cheek.

Mik felt more guilty than he had before when Mark left, but he still didn't move.

Looking up at the mist hunter his eyes filled with tears again. "No." he said. "No, I did something horrible."

"Awww," she crooned, sitting down next to Mik to squeeze their shoulders, "it'll be okay."

If he looked at her nails, they would be all strangely torn and bloody. Without warning, she leaned even closer. "You should join our family, I've always wanted a son."

Mikael was so numbed to his predicament and detached from how he looked or where he was that he didn't notice the strangeness of the visitor, instead leaning into the contact like the fragile young man he was, any affection was sustainence when one was so very starved for it.

He wanted a family, one that worked, one that wouldn't leave him.

"I miss having a mother." He said. "I dont want to get in trouble."

She couldn't have been any older than her late twenties as she brushed against his cheek with his fingernails. "You are family."

There was a loud noise, and belatedly, Mik would realize it was his head hitting something very, very heavy. He wasn't fully unconscious until the second, or third bludgeon directly to this head and by then it was too late.

Mikael would wake up hanging upside-down wrapped entirely in thick what looked like runic cable, unable to move. Someone was humming in the enclosed, dark room, and there was the sound of blunt knives grating against each other. His nose was slowly bleeding, and his eyes just slightly blurry, still trying to focus, as if recovering from a heavy concussion.

"You're my son now," said the Mist Hunter, still humming in between loud scrapes, her voice echoing slightly in the room, "nobody leaves my family."

Mikael didn't even register anything sinister about the attentions, he'd never known love that wasn't torn between the impossibly overbearing and the cold, distant and hateful extremes of his parents.

He didn't have time to even really think about it, going from sad and clingy to unconscious in a brutal few moments, there was hardly even time to register the explosion of pain behind his eyes before it went dark.

With no idea where he was, he hung there in the dark, able to feel the new blood trickle across his eyes from his nose, following the crusted trail set by previous bleeding.

Fenrir's greatest fear was restraint but Mikael's was the dark, and it was the darkness that made him whimper the most. The situation was his deepest fears made real, all his life somehow afraid that one day Lawrence would do the same to him, that he'd want to hurt him to stop him leaving the way he'd tried to kill his mother. He didn't want to die.

"I.. " he said weakly, crying again in spite of himself. "I won't leave. I don't want to leave."

"Good boy," she coaxed, "because my son's got to see the doctor's. He can't go to school if he's not feeling so good."

She began to pet his cheek like she would an animal, eyes burning red as she used a knife etched with crude runes she carved herself to leave a spiderweb-thin cut along his neck, where it was already bleeding lightly. "Shhh, mommy's a good doctor, you see. Now take deep breaths, mommy's got to make sure you don't have a fever."

Mikael cringed because he couldn't do anything but cringe, yet heart fluttering against his ribs like a trapped butterfly, he held as still as he was able.

"I'm scared of doctors." he said. Not as scared as he was of the dark - and it was so dark here.

But there was nothing he could do.
