As the voice cackled throughout the room, Mephisto gave a little shiver. His trainer only smirked. "Here we go. Let's do it to it." His fists clenched, the creepy voice actually quite unnerving him, but he refused to show it an ounce of fear. He might have been trembling inside, but there was no way he would give this disembodied voice the satisfaction of seeing it. The spotlight shone on the floor in the shape of a PokeBall, and then his opponent- a Bellsprout- wobbled forth. He straightened up and nodded.
Wasting no time, he glanced to his ghostly companion. "Mephisto. Astonish." The Gastly only hesitated a moment, glancing somewhat nervously between his trainer and his opponent, before suddenly blending in with the shadows and suddenly reappearing right in front of the Bellsprout, swelling to nearly twice his original size, putting on a twisted visage of horror and shouting before expelling a part of his gaseous body with a force meant to hit.
((Seems pretty straightforward. Let's just hope my luck here is better than in my current DND campaign, otherwise... Let's just say it's a good thing ghosts can't die. Lol))

The lights were turned down low as she walked into the place. The cream colored bandage on her face stood out on her brown cheek as her hair flicks back and forth in their twin pony tails. She was a girl of dark skin and black hair, and strangely enough violet colored eyes. Eyes that seem to convey the darkness that seem to follow her like a cloak, even though her expressions and even gestures seemed to be closer to a bubbly personality.
She would hold out her arm as the bird would land lightly on her jacket. She would have to think about getting more padding so that she wouldn't be harm by the Murkrow talons as it lands on her arm and she would curl her arm around so that she can pet it with her other hand.
"I have never seen anything like this."
Her eyes flick here and there checking out various walls. This room, she knew it had to be much bigger than what she saw in front of her. She was sure, she had seen other candidates enter this place, and she hadn't notice any of the others leave ...yet...so, why didn't she see them.
The girl would only shake her head once, a marvel ...a marvel.
But, she wouldn't say that outloud, instead, she would call out.
"My name ...is unimportant at this moment, but we are here for further testing."
She would call out to nothing. It stands to reason something was watching them and knew they were here, otherwise, she imagine they would be standing next to another trainer instead of in a place all by themselves.
- Battle Information - [Bael drank the mysterious potion! Bael is ready to battle!]
Almost as soon as Aria managed to reassure her houndoom, a voice that was too sweet for its own good let out a bright laugh before dismissing the girl's optimism and sharing a brief anecdote. Bael let out a whimper and his tail drooped as the voice described what happened to the charmander. Aria's face faltered as well, and she let out a sound of either concern or possibly disgust as she rubbed the back of her neck with her right hand. She stopped rubbing and allowed the hand to drop back to her side as she looked around, though, when the voice then introduced itself and explained what was going to happen."Ah. Nice to meet you, Daydream."The situation was awkward, but that wasn't going to keep Aria from at least being polite."You probably know this already, but I'm Aria, and this is my partner, Bael."Aria was looking up as she spoke, even when she motioned with her right hand to where Bael was. She couldn't see anyone else in the room and assumed that the voice might be coming from some speakers tucked in the dark corners where the ceiling met the wall.
Suddenly, the sound of metal against metal could be heard below her, so Aria quickly took a step back and focused her attention on the ground. Somehow, some sort of vial of strange liquid had appeared at her feet. Bael sniffed at it a few times before recoiling, not really able to smell what was in the bottle with it still closed but not liking the look of the liquid inside. Squeaking and sounds of movement meant the bottle was only a brief distraction for Aria, though, and she turned her gaze towards its source to find... A small, dark puffball skipping along as it arrived at the scene of the test."Aww, such a little cutie~"Despite her attitude so far, Aria was still just an eleven year old girl, and the zorua's cuteness was easily enough to make her coo over the creature. Too bad it seemed that the cute little fox pokemon was apparently going to be her houndour's opponent.
As Daydream's voce echoed out again, though, Aria straightened up, her cheeks slightly flushed as she realized how she had acted."A-ah, okay..."she answered with some hesitation as the mysterious voice explained that she would have to get Bael to drink the liquid before they could progress. Bael did not like the sound of this at all and whimpered as Aria knelt down to grab the bottle."I know, I know. The faster it's done, the sooner it's over with,"Aria told the pup in an attempt to console him, opening the bottle as she did so. She helped the pup lap up the liquid, although they had to pause for a moment as Bael reacted quite negatively to something about the liquid, most likely the taste or the texture. They managed to get the potion down the pup's throat in the end, though, and Aria stood up once it was done."Alright, we're ready,"she stated as she took a couple more steps back. Bael bounded forward as well to put more space between himself and his trainer.

{{OoC: Of course she set herself up for that one. Nah, I think I've got a grip of things for this go around. And I think I have a grasp on the aim bit, at least for this instance. I'll get a +5 to the accuracy portion during my attacking turns, but not my defensive turns, and Daydream won't get any aim bonus for their pokemon, yes? Looks like the first round's gonna be a clash, too, since our speeds seem to be the same. And sorry for just vanishing. I was feeling rather... Off and needed to calm down. :c
Edit: And I just realized I actually do have a question, specifically about Snatch. Given how status moves, both buffs and debuffs, work (have to roll higher than the opponent for the move to work), does that mean it'd be a roll-off (your Snatch roll vs. my Nasty Plot roll, in this case) to see who gets the benefit? Or is it working in a different way than I think and I'm just not grasping it?}}

Epic Irony
In spite of the ghost's best efforts it would fail in it's surprise tactics. The horrible visage of the Pokemon would be met with an unblinking, deadpan expression. Though the Pokemon's attack was made of gas, the constant wobbling of the Bellsprout's body still managed to make it a surprisingly difficult target to pin down.
"Really now? I was expecting the face of FEAR, not the face of Mediocrity! Perhaps I had you pegged wrong..." The voice grumbled, clearly dissatisfied with their performance. "Fine. If you're going to make a fool out of me, than I shall make a fool out of you!" The voice announced before barking it's orders "BENNY! USE TICKLE!"
Body wobbling with each step, the Bellsprout would promptly act on it's master's orders. Flicking it's leaves towards the Gastly, wiggling all the way, the Pokemon attempted to Tickle the gaseous blob. How that was physically possible was anyone's guess.

"Howdy, Aria and Bael!" Despite this being a time of introductions, Daydream made no effort to show himself... then agian, who said he had a body? Or perhaps he was just lazy. "It's a pleasure to meetcha! And such a polite little buddy! So rare nowadays, what with all the rude..." He trailed off, temporarily distracted and rambling.
/HEY!/ The Zorua bounced up and down, glaring up at the ceiling. /You can whine later! I wanna fight!/
"Right, right the battle! Sorry, little buddies!" Daydream seemed rather contrite, but given he was just a voice, it was hard to rate his sincerity. "Let's get this battle started! Fluffers, Scratch his eyes out!"
And the Zorua was all too eager to try. With a enthusiastic cry, he lunged towards Bael, claws outstretched.
((Thanks for pointing out Snatch to me! Priority moves are always tricky in this guild, so I'll be making some adjustments. For now, Snatch will just work like a Psych Up that steals the stat change-- no need to worry about about when it will take effect. For example, in your scenario of me using Snatch and you using Nasty Plot at the same time-- if I outrolled you, and you hadn't already used Nasty Plot, it would fail. Had you already used Nasty Plot, I would steal that effect. Did I explain it well enough?
Just like that Buttons would drop like a wet sack of hammers. It would see that Arceus itself was shinning down upon this Litleo. Frankly it was utterly baffling.
"Well.....uh....that...that is a thing...." The voice muttered, sounding rather surprised, if not a little disappointed things were over so easily."Hmmm....I suppose you get an A for Effort...and the whole....victory thing....but you get F's in both Blood Splatter and General Mayhem!" The voice announced, sounding a bit dismissive "Still....I suppose...it is my humble honour to welcome you as an official student of Akumu Academy!....now get out of here. You're the Professor's problem now."

[To put some numbers into all the words, lets pretend I rolled a 10 and you rolled a 12. The formula fills out like this....]
(12 - 10) + (6 - 7) = 1 DMG
[Now 1 DMG is kinda pitiful, which is exactly why we have the AIM MODIFIER!]
(12 - 10) + 5 + (6 - 7) = 6 DMG
[Much better isn't it? Please keep in mind that only a natural roll of 20 counts as a Critical.]
[Another thing to note is that you only use ATK and DEF for a Physical Move like Tackle. In the case of moves like Bubble you use SP-ATK and SP-DEF.]
[Now seeing as you have OKOH'd your opponent I'm going to have to go about things a bit more quickly.]
[Firstly I'll note that all Status Effects are explained in the Information Center. You can also go there to learn the mechanics of different moves in the guild, as well as various items and abilities once they become available.]
[Secondly we shall bring up an oh so important topic...Items.]
[Note that during battle you can only use an Item on your Attack Turn. Furthermore if you use an Item you use up your turn. So if you use a Potion to keep Ordo from Fainting, he can't also use Tackle. Its one or the other.]
[Restrictions on items are fairly standard. You can't use a TM mid battle, nor can you equip a held item. Healing items work as normal.]
[On to what you REALLY care about. PokeBalls.]
[When throwing a PokeBall you must roll 1D20. This is called a Capture Roll. To successfully capture a Pokemon your Capture Roll must be higher than their Capture Rate. To learn the Capture Rate simply ask the mod in charge of the battle. The Capture Rate will go down as the Pokemon's HP gets lower.]
[If you fail to capture a Pokemon you still lose the ball you threw. You cannot capture a fainted Pokemon. Any questions?]
She watched Ordo one hit the Pokémon. "You did it!" Scooping up Ordo with a smile. "Alright buddy, we heard the voice. Time to go." Placing Ordo down she and her buddy walked out. "Good bye voice!"

"Oh and tested you shall be child~"A sinister voice purred. Up above a light would flicker to life, illuminating the painted ring which they'd be fighting in. Of course it was in the shape of a PokeBall, as was tradition. What came next was significantly less traditional. "Well aren't YOU a cute little thing! I bet you'd look cuter in red though....bleeding out all over the floor! GWAAHAHAHAHAHA!" The voice cackled maliciously, the sound echoing off the walls. "Ah but I can't pop the little birdy yet can I? Where'd the fun be in THAT" In answer to these words, and an unspoken command, a dart would streak from the shadows, embedding itself in girl's Murkrow before it could be stopped.
"Now then, it's SHOWTIME!" The voice announced, and as he did a figure would stagger from the shadows...
Of all the Pokemon she could meet in this arena, this one was a bit unsuspected. Wobbling a bit on two short legs, the Pokemon did it's best to balance with it's tail. It was no flier, but it was clear the Murkrow had lost it's aerial advantage. In fact, indoors this Gligar likely had the advantage!
"NOW USE POISON STING! QUICKLY NOW I WANT TO SEE TEARS!" The voice barked, pausing for a moment before adding "And not yours this time!"
Gulping hard, the Gligar would shut her eyes and swing her tail, launching a poisonous barb from the bulb at the end of her tail. She wasn't even looking but...well maybe she's get lucky right?
"... well, I like the decor." Even Nim couldn't tell whether or not she was joking or not. She'd stepped over the threshold somewhat cautiously; she hadn't wanted to interrupt a meeting or another battle, but as far as she could tell, there was nothing and no one else in here. Admittedly, that was hold Nim liked it-- dark, secluded, and perfect for curling up in a pile of blankets. Even the bloodstains gave the walls a nice pattern. She'd have liked it to be about ten degrees cooler, but....
She fidgeted with the hem of her sweater, swallowing the bile that threatened the back of her throat. No matter how much she wanted to crawl back into bed, she needed to focus. If she didn't, she'd not only be letting her family down... but the Family itself. And she knew what happened to people who disappointed the Elders. She was to attend the Academy, no matter how Pokemon or battling made her feel. It was her duty... her blessing, even if the word made her want to vomit. It needed to be done. Her hand drifted to the Pokeball at her belt. Well, might as well get it over with. She pressed the button... and nothing.
Her heart dropped to her shoes; oh no, where had that little creep gone? Bad enough the thing barely listened to her, but it kept disappearing? Nim scanned the room desperately, trying not to call out in case someone stumbled upon her. It didn't take too long to notice a flash of muted color against the darkness, squeaking and grabbing at the floor.
Nimrose sighed, but instantly felt her stomach tie itself back into knots. "Oh, Ar-- get back in the ball, you!" she hissed through clenched teeth. She wanted to glare at the Pokémon, try and intimidate the thing back in the ball, but honestly, she could hardly look at the creature. There was just something so.. unsettling about it. If Eins hadn't been a gift... "We need to give a good first impression!"
Eins, by contrast, didn't have a care in the world beyond searching for new friends. The Mimikyu disliked being in the ball so much; indeed, she'd figured out a way to pop out when she wanted to. Oftentimes, she'd stay in just for Nim's sake, since the girl still seemed so nervous, but not there! Not in a new place that was so pretty! All this nice, calmness darkness... maybe she'd find a new friend? One that wasn't quite so grumpy. /Hullo? Hullooooooooo?/ she called out. /Maaaaaaarioooooooooooo!/

"Daydream huh? Bit of a funny name that. Is it your Market Name?" The youth asked curiously, tilting his head. After a moment or two of thought he'd lean forward, whispering in a conspiratorial fashion "Are the cops watching?" Bright eyes would dart back and forth in a suspicious manner. No wait. This was Akumu. Even if the cops were watching who were they gonna rat to?
"Well since you introduced yourself, I guess I shall grace you with my full name....Free of Charge!" the young trainer announced, grinning from ear to ear before performing a full and proper bow "I am Solleone Kopek Qindarkë! The first, the only, limited edition, one of a kind goods! Along with my faithful companion, assistant, and Pack Bray....Umbra!" He said, flourishing an arm in the direction of the Golett.
The clay and metal ghost would manage to wave while adjusting the backpack he carried.
"Dazzling the stage! Boggling the mind! Emptying your wallet and filling mine! If you want it we've got it so long as you're willing to pay!" The kid was starting to sound more like an infomercial than a Trainer at this point; at least until "And it seems like today's top item is an a** Kicking, and it's paid for in paaaaaaaaaain! UMBRA BOOK IT!" Sol commanded, pointing dramatically at the Roselia already preparing to assault them with it's off-brand glitter!
Pulling the straps and unloading his burden upon the floor, the Golett would smash his heavy fists together before charging forward. Not forward at the Roselia of course, that'd be stupid. His version of forward more towards the shadows, where the plant couldn't clearly see them. After all darkness was a ghost's best friend!
"Oooo!" The coast may have looked clear, but that would not stop one of the room's disembodied mentors from cooing over both Altair and his Pokémon. "Dapper little buddies! I wanna hug you, but... well, you can't hug anyone with nuclear arms." A pause. "Or without any arms, I guess. Anyway, howdy! My name's Daydream, and I'll be testing you today! If you pass, you're an official member of Akumu Academy! If you fail..." he trailed off, voice dropping in pitch for a moment before picking right back up. "Well, we'll burn that bridge when we get to it!"
Daydream gave a cheery giggle. "Now, before we can fully get started battling, I gotta give you something, okay?" A bottle appeared out of the shadows before the trainer, as if willed into existence. The contents of the bottle glowed a muted silver, and if he picked up the bottle, he'd find the contents were unusually thick. "Now, that's a gift for your Cutiefly! Have your little cutie fly over and drink up the whooooole things~ And when you're done..."
/Nyehehe!/ Out of the shadows slunk a Duskull, her red eyes even brighter in the dark expanse of the Battle Room.
((Hi there! You're the former Redilicious, right? I do remember you, so welcome back! It's been a while, so would you like a tutorial? Do you need a refresher on any mechanics?))

In the Garden of Monsters
Well the young Nim was going to get her wish. As a lamp flickered to life over the blood splattered battlefield, an eerie chill would descend upon the room. Something shifted in the shadows, but not even a ghost would be able to discern exactly what. "My my, such good little students we have this year. All bundled up in the darkess~" A voice almost sang, though it seemed to be tainted by something darker "Oh what lovely colours your bruises will turn! And if your Pokemon can't bleed we'll just make up for it by using yours!" Once again the voice was far too cheerful about gory subjects...and in front of children no less!
"Now let's get this show on the road....AND WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE! GWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" The voice cackled. It would seem it was a good day to be alive...or not!
From the shadows would descend perhaps Nim's greatest fear, most unrelenting horror, indeed a true nightmare in the flesh. With sweet cheeks as red as apples, and a cry that could melt the hearts of millions, it was literally impossible not to recognize this one Pokemon above all others. Yup, drop a few pounds and do a few bad movies and look who was popular now! That's right, beloved the world over it was.....Pikachu.
Waving in an all TOO chipper fashion, the electric mouse would happily greet the newcomers.
"Now I'm sure you'll get a real CHARGE out of this one....Wonder? Use Thundershock!" The voice declared. You could practically hear the guitar riff as some iconic themesong played in the back of your mind.
Shivering and squeaking cutely at the command, the Pikachu would rub her paws against her cheeks. First static would dance, then in mere seconds a full on jolt of electricity would dance across the stage!
The girl looked around the room as the light gave her more insight. It was dramatic, she could give that to the disembodied voice as it spoke and she found her eyes drawn to the center of the arena. The poke ball that marked the battle arena seemed to glow in the lighting ....as she would take one finger and start to bite at it a bit.
Was the lighting voice activated? Was there a control panel that she couldn't see? Could it be embedded in the ceiling or, was there a secret room on her level which would allowed such a spacing.
The girl had once more gotten a bit lost in her thoughts thinking of the possibilities when the Murkrow on her arm gave an indignity squawk and flapped his wings hard ...bluffing her in the face and chest with his wings.
That woke her up pretty quickly as she took the background noise and pull it to the forefront ...even as she reached to pull the dart out of the bird's side.
"No, popping birdies is bad, very bad...you irritate and enrage them and they fly away."
She drops it to the ground. She noticed even as she let it fall the fact that the tip looked to be hollow. Her pokemon has been injected with something, not good ...would it slow him down in a fight, or was it something to take the fight out of him completely.
She needed time to see the results.
Thus, she would start to talk to the voice.
"Painting me in blood isn't good either, Murkrows are predatory birds ...and are not above scavengers ...so I rather not be eaten by my own pokemon."
It was a ploy, as she pulled open one wing and then would move one foot to see if he was moving at the same rate of speed as before. Though the bird would squawk at her again to gain her attention as the bird's feathers would fluffy up. Head down, he was eyeing his opponent harshly as it stalk out of the shadows.
"There is no door, but yet it comes....no opponent to see, but yet it comes."
The girl declares even as it would seem that the other pokemon was taking the initiative as the voice yells out " Poison Sting " as the Murkrows takes off from her arm to avoid his trainer being caught in the midst of the attack.
She tend to be a bit long winded and can be easily distracted.
"So, what can enter a room without a door?"
"SQWARK!"
The Murkrow screamed at her and the girl would seem to come back into the world of reality as she saw the pokemon's stinger shooting out and based on the rate of speed and the space between the stingers ...she could see an opening that her pokemon could fit through and so she gave the command.
"Use peck."
The Murkrow ...would almost glare at his trainer, but this was something that had happen before as he pulls his wings inwards towards himself and seek to find a way between the attack to get at his opponent.
A decision made in a matter of seconds, and one that the Murkrow trusted enough to attempt as he dove to get an attack in.

Altair gave the dubious contents of the bottle a thorough look through before offering it to his partner. To be entirely honest he didn't like anything about the unnatural aura the potion had, and it seemed like Deneb felt the same way. He was standing here now because they wanted him to be, however, so there was no reason to think they'd want any serious harm to come to his pokemon.
"...An elixir of courage. You should take it." It was a blatant lie that he usually wouldn't make, especially to a pokemon that could detect it better than any machine would. But the cutiefly was very obviously scared out of his mind at the sight of the duskull that appeared before them, he needed a placebo or two to get into the right mindset to actually fight it. Buzzing on over to his trainer, Deneb perched on the edge of the bottle and sucked on it's contents, trying hard to ignore the foul taste. On the bright side, this isn't the worst thing his master ever made him ingest.
Once the cutiefly had finished Altair placed the bottle back down on the spot it had appeared from. He swatted his partner away when the little bug attempted to perch on his hand, forcing Deneb to fly in front of him. "I hope you do not mind if I take the initiative, 'Daydream' ."
Focusing his attention on his pokemon, he raised his hand to point at the duskull. "Show them what you are capable of. Steal its soul, my pet!" he commanded. The cutiefly, convinced that what he had drunk truly was what made him feel so brave right now, followed up on his masters orders and flew straight for the duskull, ready to Absorb whatever the ghost had in him.
(( Thank you ^^ I think I still remember the mechanics, though I'm unfamiliar with the aim modifier so I'll need a tutorial on that. Otherwise it should be fine...I hope rolling first isn't a problem either, went with attack first since iirc they'd both have to if their speeds the same ))

- Battle Information - [Bael tried to use Nasty Plot!]
Considering the academy's reputation, things had actually been going rather nicely. But, the zorua was getting anxious and the challengers needed to get things rolling soon, so Daydream gave his pokemon an order to get the battle started. Aria pursed her lips at the thought of the zorua actually damaging Bael's eyes."Keep your distance and come up with a nasty plot!"the girl called out, figuring it'd be best to give her pup a boost before actually trying to attack.
^Right!^the houndour barked as he tried to sidestep the zorua's lunge. At the same time, he tried to think of something horrible to do to the little fox. Being a young pup with a limited moveset, though, the most he could really come up with was setting the fluffball's fluffy balls on fire. Well, at least it was a start.
