"Yeah. Even the bar didn't get up and running without help." And he didn't have many............or any friends. Rep and Harrison worked together and enlisted other people to help them and now ran the place together. Support went a long way.
"Silly ideas anyways. I couldn't even handle the greenhouse." He said more to himself than Jordan and took another sip of coffee.
Maybe he just needed to handle his life with baby steps than taking on too many projects. He wasn't even sure where he would be living from this point on - let alone who to be with.
"It's been a while. I'm surprised you haven't moved in with someone."

"It's worth a thought. Maybe someone would be willing to go in on it with you. I bet researching equipment would be interesting," Jordan mused. "Even if it didn't come to anything." He took a sip of coffee, then just barely managed not to inhale it at the next comment. He held the cup defensively in front of him, his eyes sliding to Melvin's face, studying him for long moments and deciding what he wanted to say. "There hasn't been anyone I've made that kind of connection with," he said, after consideration. "I'm not really looking for, ah, casual, you know? I'm all right on my own." He smiled a little, self-deprecating. "Anyway, would you want to date someone who was still hung up on his ex? Seems like something that most people wouldn't go for." Kind of sad, he almost said, but bit off before it escaped his mouth, realizing that that could be taken wrong if Melvin misinterpreted it.

He talked his fingers against the mug, staring down at the rich chocolate colors. "I can't imagine most people would unless it was casual and not serious...." He knew he should probably work on letting Lawr go as much as Lawr was giving his blessing, but the fact that neither of them wanted to let go made it harder. It might have been different if Lawr hated him and never wanted anything to do with him ever again, but it hadn't been a clean cut. Instead, the ties between them had been reluctantly loosened for him to walk about but he could still feel them there.
"Why after all this time though. Do you think you still have a chance to be included? For something to change?" Why was Jordan still hung up when it had been years since? "I know it would be hard to look for someone knew if I felt there was still a chance with what I had."

Jordan laced his fingers around his coffee cup and shook his head. "No, there's no room left for me there, not any more. I know it's not going to happen. I just feel that it'd be unfair of me to expect a new partner to accept that I still have strong feelings for someone else, even if nothing's happening there." He shrugged one shoulder, and his eyes slid off to the side, looking at nothing in particular. "They'd have to be pretty tolerant. Anyway, it's a theoretical consideration."
A small flicker of a smile. "How's the betting pool? You got anything down?"

He leaned against the counter more, staring at his cup. While he knew it was not helping Jordan any, he had looked to the man as someone who seemed comfortable with his life and had he experience and wisdom of time to be able to provide insight on being alone after a long relationship. However, he had assumed Jordan wasn't as hung up as he was or even that he was happy, but it seemed a more somber surrender to how things were now than a jolly jog to bigger and better things.
So what hope was there for him when he felt exactly the same. People hated Lawr and he was still hung up on a person who was off with someone else.
Pulled from his thoughts, he looked confused. "Betting pool?"

Jordan laughed a little. "Maybe that's egotistical to assume, but I know there was one about how long we were going to last. I take some mildly spiteful enjoyment in figuring that if there's a pool I've probably lost a few people some money already." He sipped his coffee, trying to recover some of the equanimity he'd lost over the topic.

Melvin stared back at him, slightly confused before looking around and back at him. "Like....a betting pool on how long you last without your ex before you go insane?"

"Or how long till you get back into the game, so to speak. There are a lot of bored people here."

"Ah, well. I don't think too many people would place bets on me. I think the Lifers would laugh at anyone who didn't know better about my circumstances about why getting back into action would cause alarm. Kinda.....stuck." He said, though considered Lawr's situation.
Well, unless he want to just do that all the time. It probably was better than nothing.
"But who knows. Maybe. I guess I'll notice when I check the whiteboards in the labs again. Those usually get updated a few times." There actually were a few pools out there, though he refrained from saying he placed money on anyone.
Even if he had - and lost.
"So....you've never.....had anyone just on the rebound after? Not just out on the fly......or spite.......or just desperation?"

Jordan glanced sideways at Melvin. He remembered a Twitter post some time ago about anyone who'd slept with Lawr needing to get checked; apparently Melvin had been affected, although that was probably natural, considering. That was way too nosy a question to ask, though, and none of his business. He let that part slide. "Maybe I'll go check and see who the newest gossip is about now," he said instead.
He shook his head in response to the question, reddening slightly. "I've thought about it, but no. At the risk of being crude, if I wanted to just use someone like a sex toy, well, that's what actual sex toys are for."

He froze at that statement, feeling not only the bluntness of it stab right through him, but feeling the wave of guilt at using Mik return.
Suddenly the conversation was far more uncomfortable than it had been. Jordan had gone all this time without using anyone for just a short release and Melvin couldn't even last a day.
I'm the worst
He took a sip of his coffee nervously. "Y-Yeah...there a few funny ones up that have been there for ages." He said, taking another sip of the coffee.

"Yeah? What's the funniest you've seen?" Jordan asked. Melvin seemed to be dropping the other subject, which was just as well. They were apparently both uncomfortable with it. Jordan wondered briefly if he'd hit a nerve somehow, or whether it was just that Melvin had changed; he'd half expected further or possibly more intrusive questions.

"Funniest?" He stared, forgetting what they were even talking about now before scrambling to think of what he saw on the board. "Uh....funniest? Um....let me think." He looked around the room before back at him. "Last I read was a best on who wore what kind of underwear and techs were only allowed to win if they showed photographic proof. There were a lot of people trying to drop money around the leads to get them to bend over so they could maybe see who wore a thong."
Actually that was a very old bet, but he couldn't think of anything else.

Jordan laughed. "That's pretty good. Any results in evidence, or is it still ongoing? You could probably just ask Allan, I bet he'd share," he added dryly.

"False reports. People planting underwear and other people saying such-and-such slept with them and know as a witness. We don't count dreams or other worlds either. So far, I think it's still going. Since I'm in the runic labs, I'm not as close to the whiteboard room."
He breathed out, glad for the change in conversation and feeling a bit sick at how he probably would be seen if Jordan knew more about what he had done.
"You guys don't do anything fun like that in Sun?"
