home over the phone
Chris hums at the touch, at Thorne's closeness. When he takes the phone from him he lets his eyes drop close, just lets the warmth of Thorne lull him into a light doze.
Over the line, there's a measured silence at Thorne's reply. It's one, in English, which is obviously unexpected and two, not Chris at all. It's just about to get awkward when finally, there's a reply. "Who are you? If you've hurt Chris, you're about to be in a world of hurt."
Hyejin sounds much like Chris, down to the east coast accent despite her location. It's been noted as unnerving more than once, but Chris taught her everything he knew and it came with the accent.

Thorne laughs warmly. He nuzzles Chris gently and folds himself into a comfortable position, careful not to disturb the sleeping mess.
"I've done nothing of the sort," he says, his voice lullaby soft, "and there is nothing in the world I would hate more than hurting him, but if I ever do please come after me because I'll deserve it. He's just asleep. Again. For once."
He breathes out easily. "My name is Thorne," he says. "We just live together right now. You're...?"

Chris gives a sleep nuzzle back, but it's clear he's gone. Close to being asleep if he wasn't dozing.
There's another pause from Hyejin's end, then the sound of nails clicking against a desk. "Well, I can't really say much to that. You're even invested in him sleeping, which is rare. I think we'll keep you, for now."
There's a slight titter of laughter though, as if she can't believe what she's hearing. "Pleasure to meet you Thorne, I'm Hyejin," She says, clearly amused. "I do want to know though, how you are living with my brother in that tiny apartment of his. He can barely fit in that himself, with all his height, much less another human. Speaking of, how do you deal with all his height?"

"I can submit a full background check if necessary," Thorne responds, soft with amusement, "I swear I'm mostly clean. You're free to request credentials as well. I'm pleased to be kept, for as long as I'm welcome."
He exhales a purr as Chris gives him a sleepy nuzzle, his free hand sliding up from the blonds hip to curl at his collarbone.
"Hyejin," he responds, and he sounds pleased, flattered, "Thank you for taking a leap of faith in me." He pauses and gives another laugh. "Usually I just force him down to my level. Though that sometimes doesn't work out - his knees are sharp." He glances up at the dozing blond, huffing a mild laugh. "We're actually living in - ah - my place right now... It's. Bigger." He wonders whether or not it's appropriate to say he's living in a warehouse. A renovated warehouse.
"His height is the least of our problems here," Thorne adds, glancing up at one of his wings.

Hyejin laughs fully, a nice sound. "No, that's fine. You've proved yourself enough. Chris trusts you enough to give me the phone which, really tells me everything I need to know."
There's a swell of warmth in her voice, pride. It's clear she loves him.
Hyejin laughs again, says, "Oh I'm sure that's a sight to see. Chris doesn't enjoy bowing to anyone really. His knees really are bony aren't they though?" Chris mumbles something that sounds like a comeback, shifts a little around Thorne. He's not actually awake enough to give much of a fight though.
"You managed to get him to move? Cat and plants and all? That's impressive," Hyejin says, a little bit of doubt in her voice.
"What is then? Surely it's nothing too intimate."

Thorne smiles at that. "Oh," he says, "If you insist. I do feel honored. Usually he's yelling at me for trying to sneak nuts into the banana bread."
A sigh escapes him, but it's fond. He can hear the way Hyejin loves Chris in the way she speaks, and it makes his own chest ache a little.
It makes him happy. Proud.
"No, it's awful and he always uses them when he thinks he's going to lose." Thorne lifts his head and huffs a nuzzle into the corner of Chris's jaw as though to hush him. His eyes half lid and he snorts, falling back into a comfortable position.
"Bergie and all," Thorne responds, "The place is a greenhouse with a bed, basically." He chuckles and says, honestly, "It's been - a lot of work." He thinks of the faerie ball. The world they had occupied there, unsure of whether or not this was it, the last night on earth. "It's been something."
For all of his smoothness, however, Thorne makes a noise at Hyejin's next question that could be embarrassment or surprise or shock.
"Oh," he says. "Oh. I mean - "
And he is laying in bed with Chris, on top of Chris, and well -
"Um," Thorne says softly, not at all convincingly, his heart jack rabbiting in his chest. "Ah - I mean, we're friends. Good friends. Or something."
Graceful, Thorne, graceful.

"That's heresy and I can't believe he keeps you." Her opinion on nuts in the banana bread was as strong as Chris', which was basically a family trait.
She smiles herself though at Thorne's sigh, at the slight mumbling she can hear through the phone that she knows is Chris. Probably putting up a fight at his knees, but she had proof they were bony now. She wasn't alone.
"That's him alright, annoying isn't it?" She scoffs, clearly put off by the habit. Chris mumbles at the nuzzle but it's soft his time. Fonder. "He thinks they're his get out of jail card. He needs to learn how much they hurt."
There's an idle hum there then - "Well, that suits him. He was always better at gardening than I was, than mom was. He's always been willing to put work into things that matter. You're obviously one of them."
There's an incredibly surprised huff of breath there, followed by a long and incredulous pause.
"Just good friends," She deadpans and it's obvious she doesn't believe him. For a number of reasons, including the fact she could hear Chris over the phone, meaning that they were probably lying in bed together seeing how Chris was bad at sleeping.
Well, if they were going to be stupid, she wasn't going to be the one to end it. Not yet. She'd throw it in Chris' face later, anyways. "If you say so. Just remember, he's always oblivious to things regarding him."
Her voice gets soft, a little sad. "He doesn't think he's worth it."

"It's because he loves me," Thorne teases, not really paying attention to the words. "Or something like that. Or I just have a vaguely nice place and I can bribe him to stay with food."
He lists a little as Chris mumbles against him and puffs a little bit of laughter. He draws a faint pattern into the others skin and wonders at the way his tattoos stand out against their intertwined limbs.
"Very annoying," he agrees, mild. "The fact that there's still a bruise there counts for something on that argument."
He blushes a little bit, his neck heating as she tells him such a thing, and he huffs a little bit to stall for time.
"He's great at it," he says, fondly, "better than me. The plants actually seem to like him. He knows where they need to be to grow."
His lips quirk and he laughs a little. "I..." he trails off. "I'm glad."
The deadpan makes him blanch a little, his tone erring on 'what, no, I'm serious!' but failing to act convincing in the least. He glances up at Chris, nothing but soft lines and beautiful angles, and feels his chest ache a little more.
"I know," he says softly, and his voice is sad and desperately fond, desperately wanting, "I know. But he is. He deserves the world. I can learn to live with it if I'm not the one to give it to him. But I'll at least keep telling him that he's worth it, even if he never quite believes me."
He pauses, and adds, quieter, softer, "You really love him."

Hyejin laughs. "He probably does love you. That, or you must have some excellent food to bribe him with, considering he can cook himself. Do you like spicy food?"
Chris gives a content sigh at the patterns traced on his skin, eyes drooping closed. He falls asleep there, obviously content.
"He gave you a bruise?! Oh my god, I'm never letting him live that down. He's absolutely not allowed to claim his knees aren't weapons anymore, not when you have a bruise. How did that even happen?"
Hyejin gave a content little hum. "He just has a knack for it, but I bet you do fine if he's with you. Don't discredit yourself Thorne."
There's a soft sigh herself at Thorne's reply, sad. She can tell Thorne is fond of him though and it warms her heart, makes he a little happier. "You're good for him," She says quietly, but it's without judgement. "He better hold onto you, if you believe that. I'll come down if I have to."
She gives a soft huff, amused. "Of course I do, he's my little brother. I'd give him the world if I could. But you seem to care about him as much as I do, so I think he's in safe hands."

Thorne scoffs.
"I'm difficult to love," he says, mildly, "I'm sure it's the food. I handle his level of spice, and maybe that's what it is."
He continues to trace patterns after Chris falls asleep, but his hand stills and he gives a soft whuffle, a happy little sound against his collarbone.
"Yeah," he rumbles, "Never let him live it down. It was an awful experience. And we got into an argument over banana bread. Which I won, by the way, even with the use of kneecaps."
He sighs again, a happy sound.
"I hope so," he murmurs, a sleepy yawn escaping him now that Chris is completely out. "I would love to see you storm the castle. I'll send you the address."
And then he smiles.
"That's all I want," he acquiesces.

"Are you though?" She laughs, "If you handle his level of spice then you're a rare find indeed. That might be it."
Inwardly, she's keeping this conversation for the explicit purposes of embarrassing both of them later. Hyejin has adopted Thorne at this point - she knows he will be her brother in law.
She's pleased.
"Oh," Hyejin says, clearly put out. "I might not then, if only for the banana bread. You deserved his bony knees for that. Any other argument though and I'll back you completely."
She gives a gentle little titter of laughter, says, "Here, steal the number from Chris' phone and send it to me. I'll be sure to come. Involve a selfie while you're at it."
There's a pause and then finally: "Hey, how about you sleep. I'll call back another time, seeing as how I figure he's probably asleep on you. It was nice talking to you Thorne."
Quietly, she ends the call and smiles.
