Chel followed him away from the area, at least towards a small park that was a few blocks away from her apartment. There were the usual creeps in the park at late night, but Chel didn't really have a sense for danger in that way.
"S'this far enough?"

Jack pocketed his hands once more as they walked and took a breath, as if the air in the park was different than the one at court. Maybe it was, who knew.
"I guess. Unless you're trying to get rid of me?" he asked with a side-eye.

"F'I was tryna get rid of you I woulda ditched by now," she said with a sigh. "I don't stay where I don't want to."
She wasn't sure where we was going with that. A bench made for a nice change of subject. "You wanna sit for a bit?" They'd been on their feet all night, after all.

Having been just about to suggest it himself, Jack nodded and lumbered towards the closest bench. It was only as he finally took a seat did the burst of adrenaline that had gotten him through the halls run out, leaving him with an uncomfortable reminder in his ears and palms of his heartbeat.
He hunched forward and sagged over his knees. Chel could broach whatever topic, however she wanted.

Chel didn't talk. She leaned over and put a hand on his back, rubbing softly. For whatever Chel went through, she always cared immensely more about others than herself.

"I'm fine," he said without prompting, assuming the silent question. Jack sat up, though his hands remained in his lap. "You don't look fine."

"M'good," she said plainly, moving her hand up as he sat up and settling to rubbing one of his shoulders.
"M'just worried 'bout Shun that's all." That wasn't all, but it was a good cover up for now.

He saw through it easily enough. "Something happened in the middle of the party," Jack said, "when you and Shun attacked Melany. Everyone went nuts for a moment. Or very quiet. You saw something."

She pulled Jack's arm around her before speaking. "She just ... got in my head. Said stuff she didn't have no right sayin'."
She was glad there was no one in the park at the moment. "But I didn't die or nothin' like Adoelle so ..."

A sigh through his nose. "s**t, that...sucks." It was a little hard to figure out what to say to something like that. "Guess I should've let you at her."
