Mal followed the conversation for a bit, letting it eddy, but his curiosity had definitely been piqued. This was not, he felt, going to be a situation like the birds. They had to watch out for townsfolk, too, now, because a group of strangers with weird-a** weapons cornering teenagers and demanding answers? No way the cops wouldn't be called. And local LEOs wouldn't likely be friendly to strangers with weapons, no matter that they weren't guns.

"The woman-- d'you know what she does? I mean, this neck of the woods, a stranger comes by and y'all know about it, you know?" Mal let his accent thicken his words naturally; just one Southerner, born and bred, talking to another Southerner. "Someone new moving in, I bet when she bought or built wherever, it was the talk of the town for a while, right? Please tell me she got someone local to do it. It just isn't right when someone moves into town and then doesn't help the town, you know?" He lifted his eyebrows, inquiring but most of all inviting. Just another small town guy, just another one, like to like, surely they could share all the gossip, right?

Besides, he wasn't convinced that the tea shop was the way to go. How long had it been around? Some crystals weren't that big a deal. He glanced down at the badges of the other Chosen. Metal, not crystal, though that was only one example. Still, crystals didn't mean much. Tea didn't even mean much, though if he was planning on poisoning anyone, loose leaf hippy dippy tea crap would be one of his top choices for how to do it and not get caught.

Lex gave an easy shrug of a shoulder and lifted a hand, running his finger over the scarf and ran his thumb over his god's badge, keeping the fabric in place. "Mmh, I'm horribly interested in gossip," Lex admitted. "But I was hoping to find out about local legends and myths for a paper I'm writing."

"Is there anyone in town, that would be willing to talk about any local myths or legends? And," He paused, thoughtful, "how is the cell phone reception out here?"

How isolated were they? Really? And well, the goth group was loud and obvious and he couldn't decide if they were suppose to be a distraction or a clue.

"I'm sure someone knows. But I don't build houses or do interior design, so I'm not that guy." He frowned at Mal. Apparently the comraderie didn't penetrate.

"Verizon works okay in parts of town. Pretty much everything else is s**t. But if you can find reception, why don't you google your fairy tales; that's no interest of mine."

Nodding at the bartender, Rob turned his attention back to his beer as he processed the latest bits of information. It sounded like whatever had turned the kids into witchy little goth wannabes might have started at the tea shop, but had evolved beyond that place. Precisely where it had gone was a mystery. One thing was starting to become evident, though -- that "Witch Queen" woman was likely at the root of it.

He listened to the man's responses to his companions and decided they weren't going to get any more potential answers out of him. No sense in bothering him further and make a potential adversary in a place where they had no allies; hopefully the others would realize that. So he simply sat back and sipped his beer.

Marisol bit back at chuckle. It seemed all of them were an annoyance to the bartender. Shifting, she reached into a pocket to pull out a bit of money. Instinct said they'd probably be heading out soon because it seemed they'd worn out any welcome, which meant if she was going to get a drink she had better get it now.

"One last question, from me," she smiled, "Can I get a Jack and Coke?" That asked, she slid enough to cover the drink and hopefully a hefty enough tip that he wouldn't hold a grudge against any of the inane questions she'd ask. For all they knew, they might need to come back and hope he wouldn't kick them out or promise they'd keep their mouths shut. Best to keep all the highways of information open.

Character Name: Marisol Whelan
Brief description of character: Marisol is a young woman who is adept at fitting in and capable of charming most of those she meets. A thrill seeker at heart, she does not shy away from difficult tasks or the spotlight.

Sylvia considered for a moment, then gave a nod. It seemed she was more of a role model than a friend after all. She shrugged at his own question, “Guess we’re just curious. Wouldn’t you be a little curious if those kids running you over was your first introduction to this place?” Her head tilted to the left as she stirred her drink, “Maybe we’re a bit nostalgic, too – I’m sure most of us have been through our own ‘phases’.” Another casual shrug as she took a sip. “Thanks for indulging us.”

A few more questions were thrown out, but she could tell that the bartender was just about done with them. And frankly, she wasn’t sure what else they could really learn from him as it was. His knowledge was fairly limited, and he didn’t seem to have taken nearly as much interest in the newcomer as their group had. She wasn’t even sure that they had really learned too much – all they’d really found out about the other Chosen was that they were around at least once, and that they were somewhat curious about the tea shop. Still, she wasn’t sure that she liked this quick shift in the local teens, or that the town had been all around ‘quiet’ lately. As she mused over what little they now knew, she turned her back to the bar and admired some of the décor while she finished her drink, occasionally sipping some water.

“Mmh, Thank you for the information,” Lex said finally, pleased to learn they weren’t in the middle of a dead spot. He fished a ten and a five out of his jean’s pocket and left it under the bottle.

So they had a few possible leads, he still found that paused before listing the book store, antiques place, and tea store funny. The missing chosen had planned to go to the tea shop but they didn’t know if they had made it or not.

As for Crystal bullshit, that could be a lot of things, but Lex was edging towards a possible practitioner that wasn’t all fake jewelry and cheap metal and piercings. If he was a practicing witch or priest/priestess it was the south, it could be a sect of voodoo, well he be pretty annoyed if some idiot came down and started s**t.

If they weren’t, then they should have been pretty welcoming to any sort of gathering of posers. Meant that they should be buying things, or paying to use the shop and business had been down. He still wanted to check it out and see what was at the tea shop that first caught their missing interest.

And perhaps see if they could get a description of the mystery thirtyish women or even possibly a name.

Character Name: Lex/Sasha Tavei
Brief description of character: Impulsive to the bone and flamboyant, Lex is a ball of energy, making rash decisions and depending on his/their luck to carry him/them out of trouble.

Deity: Hermes
Weapon: Brass Knuckles (Agile, melee)
HP: 50

At the she's just a woman remark, Zebulon immediately rolled his eyes and went back to his food.

Honestly, it was mostly to stop himself from snapping at the barkeep. He knew that wouldn't be particularly useful.

Because yeah, she was "just a woman" who had managed to influence some youth of the town into thinking they were witches. Just a woman. If she was just some woman, she likely wouldn't have agitated him so much. What was this guy's issue, anyway? Did he have his panties in a bunch?

At least this food wasn't bad.

Character Name: Zebulon Castaneda
Brief description of character: Zebulon accompanies his even temper and clear mind with an oft-frustrating tendency to be snarky even in the most serious moments, needling people far past the point he should. Tagging along is a need for control, tempered by the fact that he does usually know what he's talking about. His normal ease seems lessened at current, though his control over himself is back now that he's removed enough from the conflict with the metal vulture.

Deity: Athena
Weapon: Shield

It seemed obvious that, by this point, they had tapped the extent of the bartender's knowledge, and would have to venture out into the small town to explore what other options were available -- but maybe not right now. A glance through the windows showed that the sun was starting to go down, darkness lurking right around the corner.

Brynn saw it and then checked her watch, quick, a little surprised by the time. She stood.

"We should get back. Share what we've found with the rest of the group. Maybe they can shed some light on things, give us whatever information they've found before we head back here to look around more..."

They had just enough time to finish off their drinks and snacks before heading back up toward the abandoned campsite.

Mathilda hummed as she walked back from the town, her thoughts disorganized as she tried to piece them together. The bartender was helpful if a bit gruff, but they had information that should be helpful when their group rejoined the other two. She was curious to know that they had found, especially the group that went exploring. Was there a chance they had found the so called "Witch's" hovel? Keeping to the back of the group, she recalled her experience.

-

After she had responded to Mal's question about where in Germany she was from ("Born in Stuttgart, raised in a small town southwest of Berlin."), she had smiled at Rob's comment, before picking out a place in the back corner of the bar. For her, it was easier to watch. Her first priority, while the others questioned the bartender, was to watch for weapons or agitated people. A fight here might not be a good idea, but if she could subdue someone before they something bad happened, it would be beneficial for all of them.

After scanning the room a couple times, catching glimpses of potential weapons she may need to grab to either use or move out of the way, she watch the small group she had traveled with question the bartender. That she was aware of, she as the only Ares chosen within this group. The other may know how to fight, but to what extent that they knew how to scope out an area she was not aware of.

'Remember, Child. Being seen but not heard. You will see things most others would miss.'

Well, she wasn't seeing much. The bartender seemed to only care when someone ordered a drink. He was, interestingly, open about details most other townsfolk would keep quiet on.

It was interesting, the bartenders tone. It was a mix of annoyance and anger. It made her wonder if this man had a person connection to the changed individuals. Crossing her legs, she leaned back a bit, keeping her posture relaxed and open. It was highly unlikely someone would come up and bother her, but she wanted to play it safe.

Another good thing about the bartender was his briskness. It was good to know about the other shops in town, especially the tea shop. Tea was a soft spot of hers, and of course it had ti be the possible bad place. Sighing at that piece of information, she folded her arms behind her head. Based on what the bartender was saying, about kids turning goth (and she had to try very hard to not laugh) and a potential witch, this was defiantly going to be better than the snow and birds.

Mathilda sat up straight when she heard the man question the group about their questions. She stood and moved over to the group, coming to rest next to Mal.

Luckily the man didn't press and soon enough, they were heading back to the starting area.

-

Blinking about the event, Mathilda looked at the group. It was easy to see the swamp was getting to them, but everyone seemed to be interested in what was going on.

Stretching her arms above her head, she continued her leisurely stroll in the back of the group, all the way back to camp.
