[25/25 | EVE]: bein foxOn cue, Eve glared and postured aggressively at Ashton, baring her teeth again. A little twitch of the ear was made towards the spinel lady in a small gesture of deference -- my sincerest apologies for the poor performance. This was going to wear her out.

Ashton 25/25 / COMPOSED dang that critfail, girl Ashton growled, deep in her throat, and her tail fluffed out behind her -- and she recomposed herself, took a deep breath, and smiled with every single one of her teeth visible. "-- Of course. I'm sorry to bother you." The pointed glance she cast down at Eve was hardly missable. "Have a lovely time with your pet." There was more she could have said, wanted to say -- but she wouldn't push her luck that far. Someone else, then. Someone less imposing and more wavering -- easier to charm. ...Which, in no way at all, described Alois. But she did need to apologize for her behavior earlier. Quiet steps, one-by-one, over to him; hands clasped behind her back, the very model of propriety.

alois scholz || 25/25 || yo hot daddy Alois smiled, but said nothing more of his personal appraisal. Thin lines grew thinner. „Ze guests are not fond of her. Zere’s been some unrest - I’m sure you’f noticed - and masks are starting to disappear here and zere. More opportunities, I guess. It wouldn’t surprise me terribly if someone came for ze Spinel Lady’s mask. If zat does happen, and zey succeed, I wonder what would happen in ze committee’s choosing?“ He asked rhetorically.
He stood then, and braved a hand against Ezra’s shoulder. Perhaps it chanced too much, but his reflexes proved sufficient at preventing burns too terrible. „I’ll be frank wis’ you, Father. I am worried about you. You lack a mask yourself, which makes you no less vulnerable zan, say, Adoelle. It has me wondering if you’re really beyond ze danger of it. Perhaps it’s time to be proactif’e against-„
Ashton approached, and Alois hushed immediately. Appraising eyes looked her up and down. A brow quirked, perplexed and inquisitive.
„… It’s rude to light cigarettes off of someone’s back if zat’s what you’re after. Go grab a lighter.“ After all, what else could Ashton want?

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - u tried ( 3 / 3 strikes whoops )
A frown flickered across Nathaniel's face.
"What could possibly be worse than surviving a sacrificial death?" he asked curiously, unless there was something he had missed about what the tithe entailed.

Ashton / 25/25 / why is everyone here pretty and also evil, i can't compete "I don't smoke," said Ashton, smiling in the kind of way that thoroughly communicated she would really like to not be smiling at all, and let her magic draw scales all up her cheeks. She'd have to wash it all off later, but it was nothing that couldn't be done. A little makeup went a long way. "Actually, I was wondering if I'll still have employment after tonight, considering -" she gestured, grandiose, to the whole hall, nails so pointedly inhuman - "well. Considering in general, I suppose." To be fair, Ashton didn't carry herself quite this way when she was working as an employee, either. She'd never seemed so self-assured or prideful; it showed as much in her posture, her deer-skull mask, as it didn't in her words.

Jack Hawthorn | 25/25 | chillin w sinistritch
"I could argue that it very well might be," Jack said, though it didn't contain force. It was a mere statement. "All ongoings here seem to be, one way or another. Not by direct means necessarily, but the invitation feels more like it's come from a spider, and I am but a fly. Every whisper or secret given a tremble of the web." He made a grand gesture with one arm. "Step into my parlor and all.
"I don't intend to pry if it's so personal, however. I only seek information that might help me and my friends survive the night, if not turn it some in our favor." A pause, and then he extended his gloved hand. "Jack Hawthorn, photographer for the Rider-Waite paper." Though the camera around his neck was obvious enough.

Melany: 25/25, relaxing Melany spares the werefox at her hem an appreciative nod, and goes back to--what is she doing? Contemplating the bubbles in her wine?--goes back to whatever the hell she's doing. Ezra: 25/25, chattin with son "It would rather fit the theme," says Ezra noncommittally. As if he couldn't possibly be less interested in whether Melany kept her mask or not. "And the flames themselves count as a mask; this was decided long ago. You have nothing to worry about." He sits up a little straighter at Ashton's words. "You'll mind your tongue around my tithe," he says, his tone a studied mildness. "A beautiful analogy," says the sinister stranger. "But that's all it is, an analogy." He smiles thinly beneath his mask. With the gentleman at his side handling the introductions, he's freed to keep the black pits that serve as his eyes directed at Jack. "Well, Jack Hawthorn, photographer for the Rider-Waite paper. Did you see anything of interest tonight?"

alois scholz || 25/25 || wat daddy no Before Alois could find words to respond to Ashton, Ezra responded in kind and left him stricken. It was most difficult, he decided, to fight and conceal his shock in front of an audience of any size. To lack the privacy to nurse such revelations amounted to a travesty. Perhaps that was why Shakespeare’s plays were so popular - it must be fun to look upon naked sorrow or anger.
Alois licked his lips, and his hand fell away from the Burning Man’s shoulder unscathed. He stole a breath from the air to buy time in composing his sentence. „It will depend,“ he started at last, „on you. If… Somesing were to happen to me here, zen employment would become self-employment - if zat’s what you wanted.“ He paused, tried to chuckle. He blinked, and Ashton’s form blurred but a moment. Slowly he felt himself choking.
„If my life is carried on, zen I don’t sink I’m ze right person to ask.“
My tithe, he says.
„Excuse me,“ he finished, and started from his seat. „I’ll go get zat wine.“ He spared no look back toward the pair of them. instead, harried feet carried him across the length of the black hall toward a second hall that connected with the cellar.

Susan Greer - 25/25 - entering hall
Susan left the foyer after a while of sitting and breathing and doing her best to forget forget forget what had happened between her and Temperance in front of Forever. The ivory hall had changed, it seemed, into something entirely opposite of what it once had been.
She nibbled on her lip as she looked around, eyes wide. It looked more like a courtroom, now.
She found a place in a nearby seat. And sat. She wasn't quite ready to interact with anyone. She just wanted to leave and forget.
"But I can't, because I'm trapped..." she murmured quietly to herself, picking at a loose thread on her dress. She supposed she should do something useful eventually... thus she plucked Temperance's notes from her bosom and began to read them again, carefully ignoring the more personal addition on the last page. She couldn't help but notice her handwriting had barely changed since high school... then she blushed at the fact that she could still remember something so minute.

Juniper Wilcox | 25/25 | Approaching the Spinel LadyJuniper entered the hall on a mission. After what happened in the Spire, she was dead determined to try and figure out what the hell was going on here, but she only had a few names to go off of and no faces. Her first intent though was this, Adoelle. She seemed like she had some power over Hux and his strange double and maybe she could pry some information out of her? She had no idea though where the woman was. Eyes glanced around the room and she quickly noted the four people who seemed to be on power there. Three of them she recognized, and the last she didn’t. Taking a chance she decided to approach The Spinel Lady. Taking a deep breath to ease her bubbling frustration, she walked towards the group, her eyes fixed on the woman. “Excuse me.” She said as politely as she could muster. “Do you mind if I join you?” She flashed a pearly smile. “I was hoping to enjoy some of the evening with you if you don’t mind?” And maybe pry some information if I am lucky enough.

alois scholz || 25/25 || could use more pain rn He returned, wine dripping from his hand. Glass still stuck in the holes, he knew. He could feel it every time he flexed his fingers. The pain was enough to keep him present for now, and he crosse the length of the black hall without heed to the dancers and guests. Blood spotted the floor where he passed. The less perceptive stepped in it, smeared it across the floor in graceful arcs to mark the occasion. It felt fitting that no one paid it heed.
’This is all you ******** deserve.’
Of course it is. Of course you would say that. I wonder how much you would curse your own words when this night is over. Or would you find it beneficial to have me gone, to have that wretch you saved following behind you like a dog? Like the dog that I lost?
He drew closer. The cold cut through his skin effortlessly, but he was almost there. Spinel Lady crossed into his vision on the right, with the girl from before approaching her. He didn’t care.
Finally he reached the Burning Man. „Father, would you cauterize zis for me?“ He held out his hand, a glass shard still within, and exposed all the lacerations gained from his earlier efforts. Choking on glass, he thought, was as close as Vale could come to real pain. His fingers still shook somewhat. Was it anticipation? He didn’t know.
Maybe he didn’t want to know. „I need to talk to you.“dae cakie looping you in for proximity~ feel free to hop in

Juniper Wilcox (Maskless) | 25/25 | Trying to sweet talk Spinel LadyJuniper did her best to brush off the callous greeting. Seems manners are lacking in this court. At least it appeared she was going to be able to talk to the woman. So, she moved her way into the little grouping to comfortably speak with the woman. “You’re dress is lovely by the way.” She smiled said smoothly, turning on as much charm as she possibly could. After all, this woman was high up on the chain here from what she’d gathered. Might as well smooze a bit, right? “As lovely as this ball is. It’s very delightful! I was curious though about the people roaming around here that are physical doubles of someone else. What is the purpose of them? Besides the obvious perk of confusing your guests, that is. After all, I’ve found some of them to be rather violent towards their doubles. It’s very...disconcerting to witness. In fact, I watched one of the unmasked ones be completely beaten by a group of the masked doubles. Is that really appropriate? After all, I would assume that the originals of your doubles will be returning home after the event tonight.” Jun, kept her tone even and conversational as she let her blue eyes gaze over the room before flicking back to the Spinel Lady.

Ezra: 25/25, omgwtf? He looks at Alois’s hand, and at this the surrounding humans are treated to a rare sight: the burning man doing a double take. There is only a momentary hesitation before he looks to his daughters, the twins off to the side. “July,” he says. “Appropriate some tweezers from Noeh.” He takes Alois’s wrist in his hand, the flames licking off Ezra’s skin merely tickling at Alois’s. A pleasant warmth, even. As July picks glass from Alois’s wounds, she deposits each shard into a glass of wine held by the long-suffering September. Ezra says, “Who did this to you.”
