Huh. Well... Happy couldn't say he wasn't a little bit disappointed by the lack of reaction from his date. Normally the mares were al over him at this point for being such a 'good guy.' You know, the kind of guy who helps orphans and old people? Weird.

The stallion pursed his lips, idly tapping a hoof against the table as he thought it over. Maybe Lovely was just so struck by his good looks that she was at a loss for anything else? That made sense, he thought as the waiter dropped off their meals.

Using the arrival of their food as an excuse not to talk, the flutter considered the appropriate response to the mare's words. Swallowing a piece of salmon he managed to blurt out what he thought to be a pleasing response, regardless of whether or not it was just a bunch of gibberish.

"Of course. There is beauty in all things, dead or otherwise. However, death gives you a view of all things in a way you'd never otherwise see them. Truly at peace."

Perking a little, Lovely Corpse was, for once became surprised -- pleasantly so. Other than a twitch of the ear and what seemed like a subtle rising of attention, she didn't react otherwise.

"Mm. Ye'." she agreed, her eyes softening for the first time since Happy Endings had come across her path. For the most part, Lovely Corpse was content with the stallion's answer, her posture (also surprisingly) eased into the seat -- she was becoming more comfortable, despite still being a bit stiff (but that was just how she was). "Can make it do w'at ya wan', too."

Now that wasn't the slightest bit disturbing. The stallion quirked a brow as he watched the mare. She liked controlling dead things... Well, he shrugged, he guessed it made sense given her purpose. Though he wouldn't really describe posing dead animals as 'making them do what you want.'

"You like to be in control, huh?" He smiled, popping another piece of raw fish into his muzzle.

"Mm'no." Lovely Corpse responded surprisingly quickly. Another moment of silent staring passed before she continued, "P'sish'n dead thin's. Tax'dermy."

It seemed like that was going to be the best she would explain.

Lovely Corpse seemed to watch with a strange interest as Happy Endings continued his meal -- she hadn't quite dug into her own just yet, but the mare almost seemed oddly pleased.

"Mmhmmm..." Happy gave a slow nod as he continued to eat his food. Ok. Well, this conversation was very productive. The flutter cleared his throat. Maybe if he just gave her a little nudge she would open up more.

"So, if it's not the control, then what got you interested in taxidermy in the first place?"

Finally, finally, the mare started on her own plate once she managed to tear her gaze away from Happy Endings -- which could have easily been misconstrued for admiring his appearance or active interest. It was partly true: he had a lovely color scheme and his scrawniness didn't exactly bother her -- she liked to study others when given the chance (even though her missed opportunities were mostly her fault from being too preoccupied looking for dead things).

"...Mm." Lovely Corpse mumbled in thought, taking a small bite of her tamago roll -- while it didn't seem like she disliked food, it also wasn't apparent whether she liked it all all, completely neutral in appearance at all times. "Met som'one. Saw dead bird... Wan'ed t'make it prett'" she explained.

Surprisingly, without a beat, she asked, "W'bout you?"

Well, that was a surprisingly simple reason. Happy could relate though in a way. He too enjoyed beauty, particularly his own. He finish chis sashimi plate and smiled. "I like it when things are pretty too. I think you're really enlightening me about the potential of beauty in everything though."

The stallion looked away for a moment and hummed, waving down the waiter to order their dessert. What was the best answer to give her? The truth of it was, Happy liked getting things for free and the best way to do that was to make people like you. The more people liked you, the more stuff they were willing to give you and the less you had to give them back.

"I used to be pretty lonely. I didn't like it, so i worked hard to make friends and now i work to make sure no one else feels that way."

Something finally set in with Lovely Corpse and she visibly relaxed just a tad more, taking another small nibble of her food. She'd never really considered changing other peoples' views on death and beauty, but it did strike a chord that she had maybe helped someone -- especially with Mandrake Blossom's initial idea of her.

"S'good. Y'do good?"

"I suppose you could say that." The stallion gave a shrug. While he didn't particularly care about the feelings of others, if he actually considered it... His company certainly did bring others joy. It was what he strove for. Otherwise why else would they like him enough to buy him things? If they thought he was terrible they certainly wouldn't. Other phony's happiness was just a convenient side effect of him getting what he wanted he supposed.

"Do you care a lot about that stuff? Helping others?" He murmured, turning his greedy eyes towards the waiter that approached their table with the chocolate cake.

Lovely Corpse paused in thought, considering the question posed to her. It wasn't that she didn't want to help others, but the mare was often so lost in her own mind that the world around her disappeared. "Mm. If'n I can..." she responded, looking at her food rather than Happy Endings -- it was so hard to tell what she was thinking with those wide eyes and blank smile. With a moment, she looked back up. "I'g'ess. Good t'help."

Of course. Everyone loved to look good. Her answer was no surprise. After all, what person would willingly admit that they didn't liked to help those in need? Most people would frown upon it and then the phony in question would be left an outcast. Someone who would have to come crawling to him to avoid crippling loneliness. It almost made him chuckle.

"Something we both agree on." He gave a nod and started digging into the cake. Happy closed his eyes, savoring it for a moment. Ahhh. The taste of luxury. If wealth had a flavor it would certainly be that of rich chocolate.

It wasn't long before the waiter made his way back around to the table with the check. The flutter glanced at it briefly before turning his expectant gaze upon Lovely.

"Mm."

Having barely even touched most of her meal at this point, Lovely Corpse's eyes wandered as the cake arrived; she didn't show much interest in eating it, but it did look good and she could appreciate that. Her eyes wandered to Happy Endings as he dug in and enjoyed himself.

Once the bill was brought along and Happy Endings looked upon her expectantly, the mare simply returned the stare with a blank one of her own. It wasn't that she didn't want to pay (or couldn't -- it wasn't as if her parents left her alone without any way of doing anything for herself while they were gone), but without a gentle nudge, she had no idea that one was to pay for a meal in a restaurant, as it was a rare thing for her and she never went alone in order to pay.

Happy looked at Lovely, then he looked at the check, then back to the mare. His lips pursed and for a moment he waited in patient silence until it became clear that Lovely wasn't interested in paying in the least. The flutter stared, mouth agape, as he ponder where he could have gone wrong. He had thought things were going well. The teal pony had loosened up at the very least and he'd been dropping compliments as fast as he could come up with them. Yet it hadn't been enough.

With a shaking hoof the purple male pulled the check towards him and fumbled around inside his saddlebag for his wallet. This was a momentous defeat. He had thought he had tasted victory, but it turned out to just be some very expensive (and excellent) fish.

"Well then... Thank you for having dinner with me."
