June made a face at that; she didn't like the idea of being so paranoid all the time. "Okay," was what she said regardless. Maybe there would be something and then she could report back to them. Keep it simple like that.
"So ... how can I help you guys then? You and Shun I mean."

Startled, America just stared at June for a long moment. Then she laughed, not unfriendly. "I wasn't expecting that at all," she admitted. "Truth is, both of us are really new to this. And I think he's the same as me, in that we want help but aren't sure how to, either." Grinning, she shook her head, "What a muddle, right? Everybody just wants to help, but we don't know enough to until it's right in front of our noses. I'd say just keep on the look out for things that are really too strange to excuse away. And telling one of us when you think we can help or at least do something."

"That is unfortunate," she said, putting a hand on her chin. "And it must be really hard on you guys. It's not like you asked for crazy magic stuff. Especially when none of it makes sense."
She gave America a look of solidarity. "I'm not sure there's much I can do since I'm kind of stuck behind a desk most of the day, but if I can do something for the little guys I will. Even if it's just making snacks for the big superhero meeting .... do you guys have those?"

"Some of almost did once," America admitted wryly. "That night at Blackfriars." Voice lightening a bit, she added, "There was a potluck, too. My cobbler ended up a weapon." With a huff if laughter she went on, "There's bad parts, and they're the easiest to see. But there's good things, too. Magic is real and I wouldn't trade it away. It's selfless of you, June, to offer help with the bad without getting to see the good as well. I hope you get that chance though."

June wanted to ask how cobbler became a weaon, but she also realized she wasn't sure she wanted to know.
"Well if you say so, Miss America, I'm sure it's wonderful!" she ensured the woman. "You seem very trustworthy, I think."
She tucked some hair behind her ears and sighed a little. "I just don't think it's fair that you have to deal with the bad things too."

With a shrug, the girl relaxed against the picnic table. "Naw. That's just life, bad stuff is part of it. We gotta do what we can to help the good stuff out. You work at the precinct with Shun? My Uncle Junior, he's a deputy back in Florida. He always says you need a lot of good to counter even a little bad. It's important to see the bad and try to stop it, but just as much not to forget that you're there to help the good parts of things."

June wanted to ask about the phrase "Uncle Junior" (was that his name ... or a title ... or ???) but held her tongue. It was strange how many questions America had given her in such a short amount of time.
"Oh I work at the precinct but not as a part of law enforcement," she said, waving a hand. "I just do paperwork and scheduling and things." Hence why she sat behind a desk most of the day. "Nothing that important, don't worry."
She took another one of the little donuts and chewed on a part of it. "It sounds like you respect your uncle a good deal."

"Still necessary, though, right?" America, despite her gravitation toward big gestures, actions, and purpose, nonetheless appreciated the quieter acts that led to a system actually working and able to support those big important purposes. It hadn't always been that way, but recently she'd begun to feel it more deeply, to not take such things for granted. Her expression brightened as she confirmed, "Yeah, he helped raised me and keep me to good paths where he could. He's the best person I know." Leaning forward, America asked, "What had you deciding to work for the police?"

"Well I would love to meet him and tell him he did a good job with such a nice person like you," June said, bobbing her head in appreciation.
The question about working for the police caught her off guard a bit. "Oh. I just had the skillset for the job, you know? I'm organized and I like doing paperwork and those kinds of things." She looked out to her little corgi running circles in the grass. "Someone has to pay for him- he eats like a pig!"

"If he ever comes up here from Florida I'll introduce you, I think he'd like you a lot, gotta say." Anybody who offers to help others is in Junior's good books; June seemed, in her own way, like a brave person to America. "Gosh Captain's so friggin' cute, I could die happy as long as I died facing a fat little dog." America popped a donette in her mouth and looked admiringly at the corgi. Not for the first time, the thought of getting a pet crossed her mind.

June laughed. "I think so too. I'd be so upset if something ever happened to his wiggly little butt. He's my little man."
She laughed again, but then leaned over to America. "If I need a dog babysitter ... I can call you?"

Gasping and wide-eyed, America excitedly clapped her hands. "Ohmygosh! Yes! Me!" She raised her hands like a kid volunteering in class. "Please yes!"

America proceeded to Tebow her thanks to the God of Puppers as well as June herself, until Captain Darcy had to run up and inspect the exultation redhead kneeling on the grass.

"What do you think buddy?" she asked the little dog. "Do you think America will take good care of you?"
The dog barked a tiny yip and proceeded to look at the two expectantly and confusedly. "That means yes," June said, nodding sagely.
