 She followed behind him for a few steps, clear as day checking out his cute rump and his tail, she had to admit the cute curl of his tail made her sigh when she thought of him.
He made her sigh in a way that no one else had, how long had this flame been burning without her notice? And how had it grown without her notice? She didnt know, but shed protect that flame with all she was and that she knew without question.
"I grew up on these beaches, between my uncle and my father. Pretty sure there isnt a patch of beach I havent walked, dreamed on, enjoyed." She said as she came up beside him. "Mother didnt stick around, but they stayed." There was love in her voice for the pair of males who raised her, Tac her father was a hard creature but he had been a doting father. Though she knew he had wished she'd been a son, but had over time accepted her for being a daughter instead.

Kimihiro took a few steady steps forward, turning to find Rire, but she wasn't beside him. He tilted his head and raised an eyebrow, curled tail swaying to and fro a couple times, uncertain, until he realized where she had been looking. He flushed but didn't mention it, instead latching on to what she said, waiting until she decided to catch up.
"I spent a good portion of my kittenhood on the beach and in the water as well... it was the best times. The rest, well, is the rest. My mother wasn't really around, she was there, sometimes... but she never really made an effort, and then one day she wasn't... that's what I meant, ah, earlier? You're a good mother, Rire... Though for more than just the fact that you stayed."
He kept on steadily towards the secluded area of the beach, scanning the path between slow steps, taking care to dodge around obstacles in the sand.

Had he just wagged his tail at her?! He had!
She smirked as she playfully brushed her shoulder against his. "You did that on purpose.." She teased softly.
"Im sorry, thats hard. Its unfair to those who love them when they do things like that, and its selfish." Rire couldnt imagine being away from her kits for longer than she needed, it was hard enough that she had to admit needing help. But leave and never come back? The thought of it alone twisted her heart in a painful way. "Mother didnt stick around long enough to ensure my father even found our boxes. Or so says my uncle, I wouldnt know. From the moment I decided to venture out, Ive only known my father and uncle, oh well and my aunt. My mother never returned, so I suppose with that I am luckier. To have never known her, the loss of her without reason cannot hurt.." Though it had hurt, she had siblings, her uncle confessed one night. There had been evidence of other boxes..but only hers remained. Only she had been unwanted. She lifted her chin with pride, and she thrived.
As he mentioned the kits she sighed softly, tender emotions replacing the others. " We have fabulous little fur balls dont we?" She smiled up at him

His only reply was a hum, his tail wagging back and forth once more as she walked beside him and a smile, their shoulders brushing again, voices somber as the topic.
"I think it was harder on our father than it was on us? Maybe because we had him, and others looking after us, we didn't feel as if we were lacking anything... though I imagine, for a daughter, missing her mother is, very different. Maybe we had the delusion that she'd come back, she was wild at heart, maybe she was just a little further into the trees, hunting, or that thing with her fire."
Kimi trailed off, listening to the rest of what Rire had to say and he felt entirely silly for lamenting his own kittenhood when Rire had had it worse, losing not just her mother, but siblings as well... he paused then, at the edge of the water and nuzzled her firmly. Calm waves danced up the shoreline, tickled at their feet.
"Yes... we do. ...I want to be there for them as well, as much as you want me to be. As much as they want me to be. I never intended to replace their father, but. Well, I never intended a lot of things and that never made them less true. So, if that's alright with them, with you. If not I, won't mind just remaining sounding board and mini-adventure guide..."

His tail was just making it hard for her to keep an eye on where she was going in front of her when she kept glancing back every time he wagged it, oh he was such a tease! She thought with a smirk.
"Honestly I dont know how Tac felt, he never speaks of her, nothing. Its as if she never was. " Her shoulders gave a shrug, her father was a hard creature but she loved him for it.
At the sudden firm nuzzle, she froze and then melted, returning his affection with her own as she nuzzled under his jaw with a low purr, the sudden wet of her toes made her giggle.
"They love you Kimi, there is no question for that. Even Titi is taken with you and shes a little ball of aloofness. But you cant replace who isnt there and never was. They are OUR kits, and I think they would be at a loss without you. You have been a terrific father to them, even though they arent yours. Is there even a wonder to why Ive fallen i--" Oops! She totally almost just let that slip out! Her eyes widened a bit, she had almost just let that slip right on out, oh he had gotten past her walls, and shut down her defenses, she almost just blurted that out. She couldnt believe she had almost done that. Love? Was she in love with him? Certainly there was a flame there, but..She was in love with him. Well damn, she thought to herself, she was in love with Kimihiro and she hadnt even seen it coming, instead she had walked smack into it.

Kimi was grinning as he teased her, but the smile was more in his gaze than on his maw. His tail doing happy wiggles back and forth, but would pause when she looked directly at it.
"Perhaps she wasn't. It has no reflection on you, you were just a box at the time... Some, are just not fit to be parents... but you exist, Rire. You exist and you're wonderful. You've given the world four little bundles of joy and you adore them, and I adore you all the more for how much you care."
Kimi closed his eye and purred as Rire tucked her head up beneath his chin. "Alright. Our kits, then..." He smiled again, even with his eyes squeezed closed, for this warm and solid feeling, even as night fell around them and the air and the sea was cold.
"I've caught you. I've caught you and I'll keep you, for as long as you'll have me."(rereading my previous post, idky i had kimi saying 'us' and 'we' when talking about his kithood experience, it should have been just 'i', talking about himself.)

His words made her heart lodge in her throat, they were simple and perfect and the emotions that swelled within her exploded. "Oh Kimihiro.." She said softly as she pulled herself back for a moment to look at him, to drink in the sight of him.
"There has never been anyone like you, never been anyone so loving, so accepting...so perfect. To me, you are perfect, to be had by you, to be kept by you..nothing would make me happier. I didnt ever expect to fall in love, never believed in it honestly. And then there you were, helping me when you didnt even know me. Holding a sleeping Nina, and Titi..Kimi you are my perfection and I love you. Only you, forever you."
She stood there, and offered him everything, exposing her most secret of places. His to take, or to break. But it wouldnt matter if down the road his heart changed, she knew hers would forever only beat his name.

"I didn't fall in love with you, Rire... I walked forward and you were there to meet me, and then you were beside me. Maybe I was nudged, at first, I should thank my old man for the push... but every step after that. I chose to take them, and I will continue to take them with you. I want this. I want you, to be loved by you and, to love you in turn."
He was quiet for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I guess, I stumbled into love... maybe I never really understood it until now..." Kimi shook his head softly, "Maybe I still have a lot to learn. But this is my promise to you. Always. Forever and always."
