Personality: Quiet and mouselike, Lisena seems to be afraid of everything. Unable to see very well, she relies heavily on a white cane to get around, which she hates as she feels it draws too much attention to her. Anxiety attacks are frequent. Given her personality, it probably isn't a surprise that she emerges from her dorm room only when necessary.
While counselors have been unable to pry from her why she's so terrified, the truth is that she had been raised by a woman who's kindest descriptor might be 'overprotective'. Her mother treated Lisena as if she was helpless and prevented her from becoming independent, home schooling her and keeping her isolated from the outside world. It wasn't until her mother died that Lisena was able to emerge into the world as an adult, a world she knows nothing about and doesn't understand. A world her mother had convinced her was dangerous and would do her harm.

Personality: Jaden is deeply, deeply contemptuous of pure blooded Shades, excepting his own mother and grudgingly those who he sees in mixed race relationships with other than Chomps. His parents are not happy about this in the least, and it has caused a rift especially between him and his mother. However, because of several hypocritical pure treating him the way his mother taught him their race was treated in the past, he hates them all. It doesn't matter that they were children at the time, or that they treated him badly because his tail can breathe fire and they were afraid of him, the hatred remained and he carries it with him still as an adult.
While he has his race's tendency towards anxiety, he does his best to mask it beneath a gruff and scornful demeanor. Having inherited his height from his Chimera father, he towers over pure Shades. That along with his attitude does nothing to help him overcome his issues.

Personality: Lyra never knew her parents, having apparently been abandoned as soon as she was awakened and it was discovered she didn't have eyes. Not a slit or a seam where they should be, not even an indent or holes in her skull where they ought to go. She had been discarded, and it served them right for awakening her when they had. What had they expected or hoped to receive, she had wondered once.
But she has mostly outgrown wondering. Sight was something she would never understand, but that wasn't to say her world was blackness either, for from her early life she had discovered she could echolocate. Indeed, this skill she had discovered without thinking about it, as it simply made sense and it was only later when she was asked why she clicked all the time that it occurred to her it was strange.
Now as an adult and with a cane to help her find her way, she is fully comfortable in the world she inhabits. The cane helps her when clicking isn't useful or appropriate, and between her natural function and it, she does quite well without assistance.

Personality: Castien was born into a traditionalist Fallen household; children should defer to adults, who always know better, learn about the past, your family and of their society. Castien chafed against this from a young age, and it only got worse when he started at the Academy and met others who fit his personality better. As a result. he was more than glad when he could live closer to the academy and then his chosen university. His parents weren't happy with him when he chose Grendel instead of Asterion, though he only told them of his choice in the first place as a further show of defiance against values he had rejected. Though they're patching things up now and working out compromises between his views and theirs, relations are still a long way from being mended.

Personality: Hikaru is the child of two Chimera who stumbled across the Kumiho while they were still in hiding and had therefore been forced to stay. By the time his parents had him, they had accepted their captivity and gave their son a Kumiho name. When the barrier came down and anyone who wished to leave the village could, Hikaru's parents were glad to leave and urged their son--who was far more reluctant to leave the only home he'd ever known--to come with them.
While reluctant at first however, once he entered broader society, Hikaru fell in love with it. There was so much to see, and so much to learn! He took to it with a passion, eagerly dabbling in many subjects before finally settling on his current major. His parents couldn't be prouder.
