Having finished looking around in the Eastern outgrowth, Eostre made her way to the basement of the hive. There was supposed to be a cage with the mutants down here, and as she walked in she could... certainly see that. Was one dead? Yikes. It was dim and hard to see well in the basement, and Eostre walked around the walls, looking around, not sure what to look for in particular. The shelving unit caught her eye, along with the exposed wall with the water heater and the electrical switchboard. What could be in the shelves? She looked through the contents feeling a bit bored. Regular household items, mostly...

But there it was! The electrical switchboard, that she had been looking for. A bit exposed, but the room was fairly empty aside from the redblood officer and the mutants. She'd have to tell Kursha as soon as possible.

After her conversation with Schrad, her head swiveled towards the cage, the whimpering and pleading making her pumpbiscuit ache. Elidae felt a sort of pity for the two mutants, both seemed completely dismal, one more harmed than the other in the back of the cage. She understood that having such a blood color would result in a culling, but... they were living, breathing creatures. With thoughts and feelings. Albeit, they shouldn't exist... there was no way to identify them on the spectrum, and thus proved difficult to give them a place. It was unfortunate, really.

When she approached the cage, she lowered herself to their level, sitting on her knees to the side and gently smoothing out her dress. With a tight beam, she put on the most friendly face she could for the one closest to the bars of the cage.

"Hello." She said gently, then put her hands on her chest. "I'm Elidae. Do you have a name?" After a pause and no response, she glanced to the side, clicking her tongue. She cleared her throat. "Mm. I'm sure you've been getting lots of questions... haven't you?" In the moment, she realized that in itself was a silly question. Of course they have. They were suspects, were they not? They were probably terrified... Elidae looked back at the mutantbloods, concerned.

"What are you doing here?" Of course, the mutant gave her a long stare. Elidae mimicked their glance to the bars of the cage, then let out a sigh. "I mean... hm." She thought for a moment, recalling the incident after the seadweller was found dead. "You were under the table... why were you hiding there? This place is... dangerous for you. You know that... right?" Elidae wondered if maybe they didn't know, observing the mutant's condition. As the mutant tried to vocalize what sounded like an apology, Elidae took a sharp breath. Moving closer to the bars of the cage, she asked sincerely. "Did someone let you in?" Elidae gave her full attention to the mutant, watching as they wilted before her. "I'm sorry." She mumbled quietly.

Eostre walked back into the basement again, and towards the shelving units she investigated earlier in the evening. Moving from there, she walked along the walls, looking for a second clue. Surely she could find something a bit more substantial than something among the household supplies! The walls were fairly bare though. Eostre fluffed up her stole and placed her hand against the wall, feeling for unusual cracks or something where a secret could be hidden. Maybe like in her spy novels, a loose brick would reveal a new room! She could dream about something fanciful like that, couldn't she? She was already living in a murder mystery!

And as she walked along the walls, she stopped in front of the switchboard. Using her stole as a shield to obscure her activity, she flipped as many switches as she could in one movement, to knock out the power in the hive. Whoops~

Leeroi sauntered upstairs, taking a long look around the library. It seemed to him that quite a few trolls had made their way through the room, finding clues of their own. He supposed for now, he could continue his little game of interrogation. Scanning around, he spotted the one and only Tigwyn Ioyana, and quickly turned away, chatting with his lusus for cover. He snatched his old mask out of the goat's side pouch, putting it on haphazardly. The orangeblood would notice him from before, when he bumped into Elidae, but he wouldn't remember him from the spaceship. It was a fair enough compromise in Leeroi's mind.

He approached the adult with a slight swagger, then stopping, then approaching more casually, or at least as casually as Leeroi could muster. He retrieved his notebook and pen, opening it up for notes. "Excuse me, sir," Leeroi said, masking his voice with a deeper one. "I have a few questions to ask you, if you don't mind." He straightened his shoulders, trying to make himself look more proud than he was. "You seemed friendly with Shishi Schrad, is there anything peculiar you noticed about her?" He clicked his pen. "And Major Puchen, do you know anything of note about her?" Under his mask, Leeroi smiled, despite the sweat.

After standing there for some time (what do you even do at a party, where do you start?), Adamaz was shuffled to a block with a large nutrition plateau. All sorts of people where scattered about. He saw a familiar red blood across the way, but was ushered into a seat too far away to hail her. There was some commotion over a microphone and a bunch of drones (he tried to make friends but they were busy) bustled in and handed him a menu. He tried to get Papa Roach to read it to him but Papa said he needed the practice. He chose something rather randomly, and did not like the taste. He was attempting to gulp it down behind his paper bag masks when the lights went out, which made things much more difficult. Especially when someone was culled right afterward.

Adamaz stared at the body from his seat. He did not like seeing a dead man. It was pretty not okay. But he stared nonetheless as some woman yelled a lot. Then a familiar voice barked some very important sounding orders and he took his masks off.

It was no longer stuffy and Adamaz could breathe a little easier. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a child get dragged around a corner, and he tried to follow because he did not have to look at the body anymore that way.

He got lost and had a bad time making his way around the really big hive. He found some stairs and thought "might as well"

Whoa, a basement. Was he still on the first floor earlier? He got turned around real bad. But there were two kids in a cage, and he was pretty curious to say hi since the child was how he got lost in the first place. He notices the child's clothes and began with his usual charm: You don't look good. How long have you been living down here?

Hivestuck
shelbes and the mutant blood how long have you been here back to work

The answer was curious and he pushed past a bunch of people who were scoping out that neat cage. He started feeling pretty weird, probably because he saw wounded children in a cage and a dead guy in under an hour. So he decided that **shelving unit** right there? Looks pretty sweet. He turned over every item on that thing as slowly and carefully as he could, to focus away the stress.

"Right," said Alifax, nodding as Ioyana spoke. "So what exactly do you think is happening?" he asked, flipping to a new page. This was actually pretty productive - even if he still had no idea where any of the suspects were. Couldn't someone have corraled them all into the same place if there was really any true suspicion? Of course suggesting that it had all been planned was probably akin to sedition.

When Tigwyn leaned toward him he tensed for new information, careful to not stop writing. His hands were getting tired, but at least he could tell Frossa he'd been socializing when this was all over.

The greenblood he'd seen earlier was staring at him. Alifax started, a little nervous, and then turned to head out of the library. There had to be a basement somewhere, right? Everyone had been talking about it, and stairs shouldn't be hard to find.

It was as if by luck that he found it, and he stumbled down them almost carelessly. At the bottom he found - well, Schrad was the first thing he noticed. The cage was next, from the whimpering and the attention that was being paid to it by the people within the room. There was an orangeblood standing by it wearing a pile of masks, or something. Alifax waved him hello, and then nodded at the elegant-looking blueblood who was standing up against the wall.

Of course, first here he checked the floor to see whether there were more bootprints. It took a while to ensure that the whole room was clear, but after a while he seemed to have covered the entire room. Hmm...

Well, nothing left to do but ask. He looked between Schrad and the mutantbloods for a while before stepping closer to Schrad. He examined her shoes in the guise of looking nervous before pulling his head up and looking at her. "Hello, Sir - I'm Alifax Bunsem." It was doubtful that she remembered him, because so many trolls passed through the training facilities. But he'd at least gotten some recognition - some of which he was wearing right now, in fact. "Mind if I ask you about Puchen?" If anyone looked strange at this party, it was Puchen. As he waited for her answer he quickly started a new section for her, jotting down her current presence here.

For the second time that night, the entire hive was plunged into darkness. It lasted a few heartbeats - and then the lights popped back on. Unlike the first time, no bodies immediately dropped to the floor. As if on some kind of cue, there was a crackle and pop from speakers that had been set up around the hive. They were, presumably, originally installed to trolls when events that evening were taking place, as they seemed to be on the same system as the one Awassi had used at the beginning of the night. The voice that came out of them, however, wasn't the greenbloods.

"Everyone return to the central hive, right now. I don't care if you got your hands around someone's throat, or are dragging the culler out into the light as we speak. There is a real important feelings emergency going on, and if it doesn't get sorted out right this instance, everyone in this hive is going to get to join in." The empress's tone was heavy with aggravation, a slight edge of sarcasm, and the flat monotone of a slowly breaking temper. In the background, a petulant, distressed stream of complaints could be vaguely heard.

All trolls have gathered in the central hivestem.
The third hour of the party has begun.
Your first move out of the central hivestem this hour does not loose you an investigation.

It is (also) a new ooc day! All investigations have been reset to 3.
Clues posted in the central hivestem will be pmed out shortly.

Some noted reminders:
Please remember that you lose an investigation if you switch Outgrowths during a party hour!
Please also remember that 100 words are required for EACH investigation that you do.
Finally, please be aware of the players and NPCs when entering a room and be mindful of their presence when you RP! Not only is it good etiquette, there are certain mechanics that rely on being mindful of character interactions.

The west outgrowth has been updated for the third party hour. It seems that some things in the various areas around the outgrowth have changed, and some locations have been disturbed. Perhaps they merit a new inspection.

      [+] Kursha Vidari

After the debacle in the central hivestem resolved itself (for the most part anyway), and he had bid goodbye to Elidae, Kursha made his way to the west outgrowth. His nose twitched as soon as he entered: a library. While not unpleasant, the room had a certain dry scent to it. Not musty, not old, just dry. Wrinkling his face, he suppressed a sneeze.

Slipping off to the side, Kursha avoided confrontation with the redblooded military officer for the time being. Familiar with some of her exploits (when he was younger the Colonel had made sure that he stayed up to date on all the latest military news), he was hesitant to approach her. Especially since he had a bit of a reputation of his own. Besides, he could make small chat later. His work was far from done.

After skimming a few of the bookshelves, Kursha went to the desk in the corner. There was the husktop that Elidae had mentioned, as well as a filing cabinet and a waste bin. Scraps of paper littered the floor around the latter. Scowling Kursha stooped down to pick up the trash. What a mess. Couldn't people try to keep things tidy in their investigations? As he dropped the scrap paper into the bin, he could not resist taking a peek inside but there appeared to be nothing worth rooting around for. He moved on.

Brushing the surface of the wood with his fingertips, Kursha searched the desk for anything unusual. So far, not much. He hunkered down and began to fiddle with the drawers, twisting all the knobs and knocking against the panels. As someone who valued privacy himself, the idea of a trick drawer did not seem all that unusual. People could give him s**t all they liked, but no one could accuse him of not being thorough.

Investigation complete, Kursha turned his attention at last to the filing cabinet. He tried the handle. There was a click, as the lock hit the lip of the drawer. Hunkering down, he checked over his shoulder to see if Schrad was looking. She was currently in conversation with the young greenblood, who had pitched the idea of blood-letting. Status: go. Sliding the knife out of his boot, Kursha slipped it between the gap in the metal and tried to force the lock.

Once Eridia and Gerard had left the Hivestem, the young greenblood had gotten enough of his act together to follow everyone out in hopes of vanishing in the crowd. He felt like he was enduring a horrific game of "Pounce the Baby" only this time, it wasn't his loving Machim, but every troll who'd taken the side of the bespectacled purple blood. If he could just find a place he could lay low for a bit, while tempers cooled.

His thoughts turned to the North Outgrowth where he'd began, but the nutrition block had far too many razor edged instruments of death that could be used to cull an impudent greenblood. Perhaps he could go to the South Outgrowth and hide in the trophy room? Nothing interesting there but a few taxidermied mistakes. He'd only just begun to venture there when he spotted a familiar set of heeled foot prints heading south.

'Gerard....'

The young greenblood felt himself seize up at the thought of having to deal with him again - or rather the ungogly mistake he'd made speaking up in the hivestem. Anywhere was better than where he was.

His thoughts wandered to the other Outgrowths and then to those he'd last seen in them. He didn't trust any of the adults... well, most of them. Then it hit him. Sir was a lowblood dealing with Highbloods all the time. Maybe she could help him sort out what was going on?

'Better than hanging around here,' Hazmas mused, retying his mask over his face before marching to the outgrowth. He didn't waste much time getting to the west outgrowth and was mildly surprised to find Schrad in the library.
She seemed a bit... preoccupied. Perhaps in the time Gerard took to unsettle everything, she'd found something else?

"Evening Sir," he said, his curiosity subduing his nerves. "Are you investigating something?" He almost smiled behind his mask at her response.

"Well, there seems to be enough dirt to go around," he remarked with a shrug. "Everyone's on each others backs now."

The little greenblood gave her a sideways look and then turned his gaze to where Tigwyn had been reading when he last visited the block. Apparently the orange blood had moved on to another block. Not surprising considering the circumstances, though it didn't stop Hazmas from being all the more suspicious of him. Nobody seemed to know much about the orange blood and it seemed almost as fishy as the corpse on the second story.

As he listened, the youngster began looking over the bookshelf, making sure to look back at Sir so she would know he was listening. He paused and straightened up, folding his arms pensively as he stared at the bookcase.

"If I may say Sir," the lad ventured, "it seems you and Tigwyn have been close. What's his angle?"

The greenblood's suspicion was obvious, and not for blood color reasons. Sir had told him to watch out for those who were acting too "normal", and Tigwyn had been the most relaxed of the guests he'd seen. Perhaps it was because he had nothing to hide? Or perhaps it was because he was in on the plot? Either way, Hazmas had very little in regards of trust for the fellow - an issue he felt only more information could resolve.

investigating husktop, bookshelves, questioning schrad

After having found no further purpose in staying in the central hivestem, Azrael decided to check out other parts of the hive. He brought himself to the west outgrowth, mostly because he wanted to see the mutantbloods, which would honestly turn into a lot of staring really. But maybe he could find something else before that. When he entered the library he paused. The first person he saw was the greenblood that had knocked him in the face earlier. He let out a breath. He knew Eridia really deserved what she got. He wasn't stupid not to mention that Kursha seemed temperamental and high strung anyway. She pretty much asked for it, But all in all, he didn't actually have anything against the guy and obviously could have killed Azrael if he meant it, but didn't do that to either of them. So he had no reason to be afraid or hold a grudge, that was below him. However he didn't make any kind of conversation when he approached the desk.

He watched kursha mess around with the filling cabinet briefly before turning his attention to the husktop. This was their hosts personal husktop, wasn't it? If he could get access to it, would there even be any kind of evidence on it? Or maybe he could find something that would unite everyone on the subject of Gerard. Whether incriminating or not, he wanted to find whatever truth he can about that night. He tapped a few keys and messed with the husktop to see if he could get anything from it. When he finished he wrote down notes and moved on.

His next target was the bookshelf. He couldn't help but stop and marvel at the collection of books on the shelf. He took a couple and peaked through them out of curiosity for what contents they held. He placed the books back after he was done looking through them and continued to check the shelves, he briefly considered checking the painting next to the shelf but just checked every book he could and searched the bookshelves for any irregularities. He stopped himself from organizing the books he could get to by color and then alphabetical order. He used his sketchpad to make more notes for later and put the sketchpad back in his bag.

His next thing to do was question the redblood next to the bookshelves he'd just rifled through. He didn't know a whole lot about her, military information was not his speciality in any way. And-- well bless his luck it was-- actually, what was he? Was he a greenblood or a yellowblood? He'd have to ask later. But there were other things he wanted to see, namely what he thought about Gerard. Personally, he couldn't understand Eridia's obsession with the guy and thought that the rumor wrote up maybe had more grounds, otherwise, what redblood in their right mind would write something like that? "Hey!" Azrael called out to the two chatting trolls. A little loud considering he was Right next to them. He placed a hand on Hazmas shoulder and looked at Schrad, "Pardon the breakup, but I want to ask what you might know about Epratt, Anything at all would be greatly appreciated, but if it's nothing much that's fine,," He wasn't sure if asking the redblood about Gerard would be a great idea after the upheaval at the central hivestem. Once he'd gotten any response at all from the redblood he pulled the...green? yellow? blood aside and out of earshot of the redblood. "I'd like to talk to you, Seems like you made a pretty big mess of yourself," Azrael said with his measured tone. "Tell me, do you think any amount of it is true?"

      [+] Kursha Vidari

As Kursha rose to exit, he caught a gleam of red in his peripheral vision. He stopped to face the desk again, gaze passing over everything. Not the husktop, but something right about eye level. For a moment he thought he had seen... Aha! On the wall over the desk, behind the slightly crooked picture frame (someone must have nudged it). That had to be it. He grinned. This was also becoming easy.

Temporarily satisfied with the results from his search, Kursha glanced over at Schrad. Still occupied with the greenblood it looked like. While a part of him wanted to eavesdrop, getting caught would not lend him a favourable reputation. At the very least it looked rude, and for once he wanted to show some self-restraint. He could wait his turn. Besides, it did not look like she was going anywhere any time soon. Without further ado, he made his way to the door against the opposite wall.

It was dark on the other side, and his eyes took a moment to adjust. Before him, a narrow stairwell lead downwards. At the bottom a sickly, yellow light illuminated the wall: the basement. Keeping one hand on the rail, Kursha made his descent, boots clapping against the stone tile steps. If there was anything to dig up on their host, this would be the place to find it.

As soon as he reached the bottom, he scoped out the room. While spacious enough, a copious number of boxes stacked up against the walls limited manoeuvrability. Behind one stack, he saw a panel embedded in the wall. It looked like some kind of control panel. He did not ponder on it for long, because in the far corner was an sight that demanded his attention. He had heard mention of it, of course but still. He eyed the cage up and down. That must have been where the mutants were being...

Hold on just a second.

Kursha hurried forward, peering through the bars. At the very back, he counted one small, grey lump. At the dinner there had been two, hadn't there? One with bright yellow blood and this one with... Whatever. It didn't matter.

He rapped his knuckles against the cell bars. “Oi! Mutant!” he snapped. “Anyone home? Come on! Shake a leg, let's look alive! You got wax in your sponge clots, or what? I know you aren't dead yet, so gimme an answer already.” No response. If anything, the child just pulled farther away.

“Tch.” Kursha clicked his tongue against his teeth. Kid must have been stupid. Or deaf. Either way, he didn't really care. If one of the mutants had been moved, he wanted to know where. He had at least one idea of who he could ask.

Turning away, Kursha made his way back to the stairs. Boot on the first step, he paused. He glanced back at the cage, expression sour. That was no way to be. Offering the child a grin and wave he knew they would not see, he called out, “Hope you're enjoying your stay~!” Then, he went up the stairs and closed the door with a bang behind him.

Back in the library, Schrad had finally peeled herself away from Hazmas. Without further delay, Kursha strode towards her. Halfway across the room he called out to her. “Hey!” His casual method of address earned him a baleful look. But maybe she always looked like that. Either way, not the best tactic to address a military officer. At least he had her attention. Coming to a stop beside her, he got right to the point. “You wouldn't happen to know where the mutantblood is?”

Hazmas lowered his gaze thoughtfully, thinking on what she'd said. It was then that he got up the courage to ask her something that had been prodding at the back of his thinkpan.

"Sir, if I may ask, what do you know about Gerard?"

Schrad's response was about the best balm Hazmas could've ever received that night. She mirrored his own disgust for the highblood which helped him feel at least a bit justified in his previous actions in the hivestem - if only to help him realize not everyone would have him on their cull list after tonight.

As he listened, it occurred to him that she wasn't the only military officer there and that he'd hardly asked about any of the other adults. Things were no doubt tougher in the military, but being one who was interested in becoming a military engineer, the youngster couldn't help but ask about her fellow officer.

"Sir, what exactly do you know about Puchen?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth that he heard the door to the basement open and close. Whatever color had been in his cheeks vanished, leaving him quite pale behind his mask. Other than knowing that he was the commander in charge of ousting the Rebels from the caves, the youngster had no idea if the greenblood had any vendetta streak or appetite for grudge matches, nor he did want to stick around to find out.

He glanced nervously at Kursha from time to time as he listened to the redblood officer, and was taken by surprise when a blueblood butted into the conversation. Funnily enough, he was grateful for the interruption. It gave him an excuse to perform a tactical retreat so as to avoid being culled by the greenblood. That gratitude sparked out when the highblood put a hand on his shoulder, stopping him from enacting his escape plan and proceeded to drag him out of earshot and question him about his fabulous farkup in the Hivestem.

Hazmas stared at him incredulously. The highblood might as well have asked him if he wanted his death certificate printed in ink or his own blood.

"Are you serious?" he hissed, the expression behind his mask a mix of livid terror. "You're gonna ask me that while he's in the room?"

He gave a little head jerk, indicating the teenaged greenblood who had taken the opportunity of his and the blueblood's absence to discuss whatever with Schrad. It was obvious he was terrified of the teen. After all, you don't screw something up that bad and not end up on the hit list of just about everyone around - particularly if you were specifically named in it.

"Sorry, but I'm not interested in getting any further up on his or anyone's cull list than I already am."

Giving Kursha one last apprehensive look, Hazmas turned his attention floor, in hopes of finding something something else to distract from the conversation. Glancing at the blue blood, the masked youngster moved to investigate the discarded pieces by the trash bin, pausing to examine each piece as if they were all some bit of crucial evidence.

"If you have to know, truth is I don't know. That's why I posed the question. A highblood, a seadweller no less, was murdered today and no one but the Queen is above suspicion. Mysterious blue blood was found and now a rumor that someone's blood color isn't what they say it is? What else were we supposed to do to get the truth? Honestly, all I wanted him to do was confirm beyond a doubt that the rumor was a lie because if it is, Kursha was right and someone is playing us. But even worse, it means glasses is might be the next target."
