"Let's do something a little different... Recently it's been discovered that it's possible to animate plants and essentially give them a mind of their own. So far the experiments have only lasted a few days... What do you all think about this? Positives? Negatives?"

Raleka listened to the question intently, nodding. She'd read up on those animate plant experiments, and she knew very well what they entailed, even if she had yet to understand all the scientific jargon in the journals. She'd also read about experiments and theories on plant intelligence. Raleka wrote down her response as other students spoke their parts, just to be sure she had all her words in order. When the hybrid was finally called upon, she cleared her throat and stood, reciting what she had written.

"I think botanical animation has great potential as we learn how to take care of active plants more appropriately. There has been a lot of theoretical research lately on the idea that plants are intelligent without having brains, exhibiting the same senses as any nightmare or daydream, such as taste, touch, and feeling gravity. For a long time plants have oriented themselves in the direction of sunlight or moonlight, and synced their blooms up with the day or night. They learn about things that hurt them and things that don't. They communicate with each other through hormones. This is important to note as we move into an age where our magical technology has advanced enough to animate these life forms.

However, all of the plant experiments that have occurred have been incredibly dangerous, with the plants becoming aggressive and even diabolical in their actions. They are far more intelligent than we had bargained for, and until we can find a way to either control them or understand them we are left with having to only animate plants in very controlled, safe settings. Perhaps plant psychology will even be a field some time as we go forward. But while I'm all for having pet plants,"
she laughed ironically, "I'd rather keep my eyeballs in my skull for the time being."

Raleka sat down, confident in her answer. She had even proven she'd done some outside research here! She was very excited about the future prospects of plant technologies and studies.

The professor had posed the idea of animated plants and given Estys's time constraints with having a mountain of babbies, the fey had opted to answer the question via a take home essay that way she could think the question over and give her honest opinion on it, rather than her initial thoughts. And being aware of the news and whatnot, she had heard of some of the violent tendencies these plants had. Tapping her pen, Estys scratched her neck as she deliberated over the idea - clearly she was deep in thought, and no bratty freshling would be able to disturb her thoughts!

After brainstorming and over analyzing, the fey wrote:

"I think it's fascinating that these tests have been done. And while I believe they can be beneficial to us because it shows not only that we have no bounds in what we can and can't do, I think overall this has been causing more harm than good. With the recent success in animating the plants, the plants have more often than not acted in a violent manner, and thus caused damage... But why? Perhaps they become aware of something that causes them to feel endangered, thus they rebel. Or maybe they just don't know better - I'm unsure of what their 'maturity' they would be, but assuming they have the mind of an infant, acting in a destructive manner would only be appropriate for them. Thus, this gives me concerns for the plants themselves; if they have a mind of their own, to what extent does it go? Are they fully sentient of everything? Do they experience pain like we do?

Perhaps if we can better understand the plants and their experiences, then we can act in a way that will soothe them. If this is the case, who knows what we could learn. Perhaps the plants and we could work together to find cures for terminal diseases, or introduce things that could improve our overall lifestyle. They could even be pets, which I think would be an especially lovely way to introduce my children to what I study and am interested in! Regardless, I'm eager to see how these studies will unfold over the next few months..."

Signing her name to indicate it was her work, she made sure to hand it in to the professor the next day.

Evergreen thought about the question and the possibilities, he had also heard about the plants having violent reactions. Ever wrote "I think the idea is interesting, but due to the reactions of the plants perhaps it is their way of saying they were never meant to have an embodiment of this sort. To force a vespercat to swim or a daisy to dance to me seem wrong. Nature is suppose to flow a certain way and changing that can cause dangerour reactions." Evergreen then handed his assignment into the teacher.

Aloe looked over the infomation, including looking up the incidents and she wrote "I understand the problems, but I think there could be intresting possiblities perhaps if the plants can be tamed and educated they could share more about themselves and I would love to have a conversation with my garden. Safety of course would be a top consern since I wouldn't want anyone hurt nor any plants destroyed because they hurt someone."

User Image Evergreen still wasn't very good at this plant hybrid thing, he was skilled with plants but certainly, not skilled with hybrid plants, it continued to just get by in this classes, he considered looking into some other type of plant science, but this was what he wanted to do with his life.

User Image Aloe smiled at Evergreen, he was still her friend and would always be her friend. She wanted to help him, but knew they needed to start moving apart and doing their own thing, Aloe turned back to her project to work. Aloe laughed clearly her mind wasn't on her work today, she didn't fail but she didn't do great either.

User Image Weird flowers Aloe looked over the article about weird flowers curiously. Color changing leaves that certainly sounded like magic.

User ImageOlder trees Evergreen decided to look at an article about old trees and how they grew faster and processed more carbon dioxide than younger trees. It seemed to him that was a very good reason not to cut down beautiful old trees.

User Image Evergreen put his textbooks and everything else besides his desk he wasn't really worried about this test, he was pretty confident that he knew the material. So he picked up his paper and pencil and started doing his test. Evergreen was looking forward to graduating university. It wouldn't be long now before he would have his degree and would be able to work in his field.

User Image Aloe was her normal scattered self-stumbling into the classroom late and only taking out her paper and pencil as she caught the tail end of what the teacher said before she rushed to finish her test. She quickly did her test and hoped she got all the answers right or at least enough to pass. She bit her lip she was looking forward to graduating hopefully before spring came, she really wanted to get a job doing what she loved.

Zinnia quietly worked , as she took in to consideration everything she had learned threw-out the school years. she worked hard on her test as she made notes occasionally trying to remember a few things, as she came to a conclusion on the finally question she finished filling it out and turned her paper in. Hopping that she did well enough to pass

User Image Evergreen must have been distracted by the sight of his mate in the classroom because he couldn't remember any of the answers when he first looked at the test. He shook his head trying to concentrate but it wasn't going well so far. Evergreen frowned looking down at his test.
