If the passengers on the train weren't already irritated from the heat and close proximity in the car they certainly were when people noticed they had skipped a train stop. Especially with a child talking to her mother about it in that 'always loud' child volume. At this point, people were more aware of their surroundings, antsy, and confused which made Rebalite's job all that more harder.

He had of course noted one of the lieutenants interacting with a bunch of teens. The encounter didn't seem to cause any problems but certainly made the teens look in her direction more if just out of annoyance. Ah well. It didn't matter. As long as the job got done. So far things seemed to be going well.

Now, who was he going to hit next...

Surreptitiously he looked around. He didn't want to look too noticeable but his eyes certain had a calculating look as he observed the people around him. He noticed an old man sitting in a chair just across from him. The guy was already fast asleep and far too much a perfect target.

Using the swaying of the train when the brakes hit momentarily, Rebalite shifted to the otherside of the train. He stood there for a few moments before pretending to drop something that just happened to fall on the seat next to the man. "Excuse me, dropped something." He mumbled and tried to use his body to block the view of his hand entering the mans chest and exiting with the starseed.

Leah was feeling antsy, she didn't really know what to do, but she needed to calm down. So she pulled out her phone once more, pulling up the snapchat app and making a face. She typed a little message, 'train when passed the platform ... bummed.'

Messages pinged back with little bummed faces back at her and she smiled feeling a tiny bit more at ease. But when she went to snap another pic she whipped around to look at a man she swore took something from another sleeping man.

She nudged her mom and frowned, "mom, I think maybe that man stole something." It was a whisper, but she sounded worried so her mom turned to look.

"Leah sweet, I think your just anxious. It the subway, not like the carnival or the convention. It will be fine. I'm right here with you." Dee hugged her daughter and smiled.

Leah sighed and turned worried eyes around the train eventually landing on some other kids not to far from her, starring for a bit before looking back to the man she thought might have stole something and watching him.

Peter held back a sputter in reaction to both of the girls’ comments, as if neither of them thought it might be cool to have him as a boyfriend. Well, fine. He would just have to make sure he asked Raleigh out again if he wasn’t good enough either Haven or Chailee.

Trying not to look too put off by their comments, Peter shrugged. “Yeah, Azure. Home of the scientifically gifted and athletically helpless.” That wasn’t entirely true, but it was certainly the stereotype. “Heading home, yeah,” he added with a shrug. And for Haven to have gone all day without making a mean comment. He thought it had been too good to be true. Maybe they were only meant to be rivals.

He didn’t expect her to get his attention though, and he looked up to see that they seemed to have passed the station as well. “Well, that’s probably not good,” he said with a grunt, although not quite looking Haven in the eye. He thought kids were mean, but teenagers were just as bad.

But another girl there seemed to be worried too. One with dark hair and eyes like his own. He knew she was probably worried. To be honest, he was worried, too. But he cracked a small smile and winked to… hopefully let her know she wasn’t there alone. Well, obviously not alone as she was with someone, but… whatever.

Silas was starting to get the inkling that something was wrong. For all his spacing out and staring at the amazing hair of the people around him, he had the feeling that the train ride had going for a bit too long. People were starting to get antsy. Did the train miss its stop? It must have; that explained the length of time that the train had been traveling and the fidgeting of people around him.

Some guy announced audibly that he had dropped something, and it drew Silas's attention. Another fishy character. If something was awry, he'd have to send a special message or two to make sure it was taken care of. He would have sent ordinary texts, but if something was going down, the recipients would most likely be powered up and unable to access their normal phones. So Knight Ringmail it was.

He fished his post-it notes and a pen out of his pocket as quietly as he could, and wrote two messages:

Quote:
To Megrez

The train passed the platform. Something weird is going on. If it's Negaverse, I'd like your help.

Quote:
To Cor Caroli

The train passed the platform. Something weird is going on. Be careful if going near the train.

A press of his signet ring into each note, and they were both gone. It was tempting to duck behind his seat and transform right then and there, but it was also very risky He would wait just a little longer before making the splash..

At least this ******** ride was almost over. That was the one thing Hitch was taking solace in. After this, once he got out, he'd have service on his phone again - for better or worse, he thought to himself, thinking even more now that a note for Tolliver probably wasn't the way to go (flowers? - did Tolliver even ********' like flowers? - what if he was allergic?) - and he'd go get the goddamn stitches out and then he'd go home, curl up under his ******** blanket, and that would be the rest of his ******** perfect day.

There was just one problem: the train didn't ******** stop. It wasn't his imagination, right? - they'd just totally blown his ******** stop, hadn't they?!

He took it about as well as expected.

"Are you - kidding me?!" he blustered to no one in particular, because he was a ******** moron and left his boyfriend at home like a jackass. "That was my ********' stop you - aren't they supposed to ********' announce cancellations an' s**t?! Like, what the ******** are you train guys even here for then, huh?! - this goddamn city I ********' swear - the ******** you lookin' at!" Because of course a mom standing close by was covering her daughter's ears by this point, giving him the full-on disapproving mother look. "You don't know my life lady, alright?! - I swear to ********' god if one more jackass elbows me I will ********' take you out!"

Chailee wasn't sure what to think about Haven. The girls seemed nice enough but then also had a bite to her words at times. "Oh um, yea. Well Meadowview isn't anything like Crystal Academy." She smiled. "I mean since it's a public school and all it's definitely easier." She shrugged slightly. "I like it though. I feel like if I went to Crystal I wouldn't have time for anything but studying." Though that might not be such a bad thing if it meant she would have an excuse not to go on patrols as often. Not that anyone was forcing her, but despite her uneasiness, she felt bad if she wasn't out doing her part. Even if she wasn't really sure what her part was.

To be honest, Chailee wasn't being all the observant so when their train went past their stop she hadn't even noticed until Haven mentioned something to Peter.

Furrowing her brows she looked out the windows behind Peter and Haven. "Maybe there was something wrong at the station and they couldn't stop?"

A lot of people in the car seemed to be muttering about them passing the station. Chailee's head snapped towards a man who began to make quite a fuss about the missed stop and was being quite explicit with his words. She opened her mouth like she was going to say something but stopped and looked back at Peter and Haven. "I hope things don't go bad now cause people are angry."

Rebalite kept his face neutral but caught the looks in his direction and mentally cursed himself. People were too antsy now. What the hell was he suppose to do?

Glancing around the car he noted that just about everyone, besides those whose seeds had been taken by himself or other agents, were quite aware of their missed stop and now being nosey and observant. Great. That last starseed snatch had even caught the attention of a snotty brat.

Plus there was now the loud mouth on the other side of the train making a ruckus and aggravating people even more.

Haven made a sweeping glance around the train car, the conversation about school all but forgotten. Other people had noticed that the train hadn't stopped at the platform, so Haven knew she hadn't been going crazy. The atmosphere in the train car suddenly turned to one of impatience and anxiety. One man in particular began cursing loudly.

“Something's going on,” she said to Peter and Chailee, keeping her voice low. “This isn't right.”

But what could possibly have caused the train to pass on by? There couldn't be anything wrong with the train itself or they would have come to a stop whether or not they'd reached a station. That left the platform itself, as Chailee had suggested. Had there been an accident perhaps?

As her eyes scanned the train, Haven noticed quite a few people still sleeping. They didn't even stir when the man started shouting, which struck Haven as odd, unless they really were that deeply asleep. (But how deeply could one really sleep on a train full of people?)

Cautiously, Haven stood from her seat, clutching her messenger bag close to her side. She eyed the shouting man again, not so much suspicious of him as she was concerned that his blustering might initiate some sort of confrontation.

“Calm down,” she said quietly. “There has to be an explanation, but fussing about it isn't going to help anyone.”

Easy for her to say, given that it hadn't been her stop they'd just passed by.

On a good day, Hitch might have looked at Haven, seen a girl that was probably barely in high school, and just let it go with a roll of his eyes and a snort.

Today was decidedly not a good day. His painkillers were wearing off, he'd killed his water already, the heat was just making his itchy, healing wounds itchier, and he was ******** sweating like he'd just run a marathon. His fingers were twitching for a cigarette and he was worrying about his boyfriend and now he was going to have to sit on the train for another ******** ride or walk from the next stop to the hospital and just - <******** their explanations, ******** them, an' ******** this stupid ********' train - and y'know what, it's ********' helpin' ME not to punch the a*****e who keeps ********' elbowin' me - I ********' see you, jackass!" he threw back over his shoulder, "in the ********' throat; so how 'bout you just <********>' let me be, alright ******** he was feeling ******** all this s**t. He reached into his pocket and whipped out a pack, shoving the cigarette between his lips, scratching at the bandages on his face before he bothered to light up. Let 'em ******** glare, the assholes. The whole ******** lot of them.

Was this guy really deciding it was a good idea to light up in an enclosed area? Probably, because he was freaking out and not helping the situation at all.

When Haven stood up, Peter reached down to dig under the flap of her messenger bag, pulling out the bottle of water he knew she had in there. Not waiting for her to start fussing at him, he uncapped it and moved himself quickly across the car so he could spray it into the crazy man's face, hoping to soak the cigarette in the process.

"Hey, we can see you're going through some kind of break, but not all of us want to die from lung cancer from second hand smoke. Missing the platform sucks, but don't be a jackass, jackass."

If he could distract the man's attention towards him, maybe he'll leave the others alone.

Peter made a motion with his hand to try and get people not involved to back away in case a fight broke out. He might only be fourteen, but he was no longer tiny.

He knew he probably wasn't helping the situation, but this guy was making it so much worse with his attitude.

Oh yes. She had managed to modify the two 'children' and even their friend. It made Stibnite smile as she opened one eye and gaze back at them turning from her to their own little world.

Several other eyes had come onto her, a few she knew where on her 'side' had watched the exchange. Stibnite just hoped they had made use of the distraction or playing had made for them.

Then the panic started. They had passed the first train stop. People were starting to chatter. Well, the people left away enough to chatter. She could hear the fear in some of them, the concern in others. But it was the fear in a little girl's voice that drew Stibnite to rise.

Stiff after all from having a person sleeping on her shoulder.

Thanks to the man who decided to smoke in an enclosed area, Stibnite could slip by mostly unnoticed with a few quick crabs. A quick false act like someone touched her butt.

The look she shot the innocent man was dark and he looked terrified but she carried on to come up behind where the little girl and her mother sat. "There is always a logical explanation for everything." Stibnite seemed to say to no one but looked down at the young woman over her shoulder. "But you and your mother should cover your mouths. I think he is about to start chain smoking."

Quote:
Looking out the train windows offers nothing but darkness until the next blaring tunnel light peers in on its occupants. A light scratching sounds from the outside of the train, somewhere on the brushed aluminum surfaces, but nothing more is heard. When the next beam of light pierces the curtain of black, a silhouette not unlike a gnarled hand is projected from the window. The next blaring light silhouettes a body so great that it obstructs most of the window. The third light cuts through cleanly, with the whole of the window now unobstructed.

This was not the only bizarre instance to occur - they grew more frequent, but no more brazen than to restrict themselves to the outside of the train.

Somewhere beyond the window, something chitters.

How your characters react to this is up to you! Hang on tight; Order will get to the computers on the platform soon and these trains will get a bit crazy!

Due to excessive tampering with the console, the sprinklers have come on! People have become alert and are starting to look for fires. The raised suspicion level within the train car makes it easier to suss out Negaverse agents!

Rolling for Negaverse detection is now BOOSTED by +15 until the system corrects itself! (6:00 AM EST the following day from this post)

Hitch was about to take the first puff; really, it'd be the first good thing to ******** happen today, just a little puff of his goddamn cigarette would be enough to keep him sane and together long enough to -

- a squirt of water, ice cold, suddenly burst across his face and left the cigarette a soggy mess, and in the process completely soaked by gauze across his cheeks, too, trickling down his front and leaving him completely stunned for a good five seconds.

Slowly, he dropped the ruined cigarette, and when his gaze rose from the floor to the stupid a** ******** little punk who was clearly a literal ******** idiot, Hitch's eyes were burning. That did it. That <********> did it. "You picked, " he started slowly, through clenched teeth, lunging to grab at the boy's collar. "The wrong ********' day you little piece of - "

He was cut off, abruptly, dropping the kid all together and taking a step or two back when he saw a flash of a gnarly ******** shadow hand along the window, his eyes wide and a surge of - he didn't want to say it was fear, because Logan ******** Hitchcock didn't cower in fear, but -<******** no. Not here. Not now. Not when I ********' left him again. No, no, no, I can't, I can't ********' do this right now, I can't -

Then, abruptly, the sprinklers came on - and Hitch bellowed a mighty, "ARE YOU ********' KIDDIN' ME, " whirling and he shot the woman who'd been talking crap about him before a long, sideways glance as he hustled to the end of the car, as if somehow he'd be able to see something there that he couldn't here. He hunched over as he walked, trying to tuck his cast-laden arm under him in a vain attempt to keep it dry, because of ******** course.

I swear to ********' god if I gotta power up like this... ******** class="quote">

Haven made a face as the man continued to curse. She didn't appreciate his attitude in the least. She could understand part of his annoyance, but really he was taking it just a bit too far. She looked between Peter and Chailee for help and ended up receiving it in the form of Peter soaking the man's cigarette with the bottle of water he'd snatched from her messenger bag.

Of course, the sprinklers chose that moment to go off, so Peter's use of the water bottle didn't make much of a difference. Haven frowned and clutched her messenger bag close to her, wary that all of her research might be affected by the water from the sprinklers.

It was as she was looking around the train car for the source of the sprinkler system being turned on—the man hadn't actually lit up, so that shouldn't have done it—that Haven noticed the silhouette outside the window, a grotesque looking hand that didn't seem at all human.

“Look,” she whispered to Peter, though she couldn't tell him what she suspected just then, surrounded by people as they were.

Between passing the previous platform, the sprinklers turning on at random, and now a gnarly hand visible outside the window, Haven was very certain something was going on. She simply didn't have anything to prove it aside from her suspicions. She looked around the train car again, noticing how most people had grown more alert. There were still some people sleeping, however, which struck her as odd.

Shouldn't the sprinklers turning on and pelting them with water have woken them up?

Haven went back to eyeing the thief from earlier, suddenly suspicious that there was more than simple thievery going on here.
