Paris brightened when Chris mentioned the cabin. She could almost believe he'd remembered it on his own, except she knew he'd seen the plans where he'd left them on his drafting table. He'd asked her about them only a few days ago.

“Whenever that'll happen,” she said. She took a sip of her selected beverage, leaned back on her elbows and drank in the sun. “We don't have much time left, you know. Maybe a few weeks at most.”

It made her antsy, waiting. Paris was nothing if not impatient. There was too much to look forward to, and too much time between her and the very thing she wanted. The weeks since New Years had passed faster than she'd thought they would, but she knew the last month would drag on endlessly. That was the way things always worked when she wanted something.

Lazily, Paris dipped her toes in the sand again, staring off over the water, considering it.

“Are you sure you're going to be okay?” she asked. It was something she'd been meaning to ask for a while now, but not something she especially look forward to hearing the answer to. “With the twins, I mean. That's sort of a lot of dump on you when you barely remember anything about the last four years.”

Lovely snorted inelegantly.

“My mother has a yacht,” he explained, “but I'm not fond of it.”

He left it at that rather than admitting to the fact that he got violently seasick simply setting foot on a boat. It was an embarrassing weakness he wasn't prone to sharing with others if he didn't have to. If he told Ilian, Lovely doubted the other boy would ever let him live it down.

There was no telling what Ilian would do if he found out Lovely couldn't hardly even swim.

Yes, I've been to picnics and barbecues,” he scoffed. He didn't like the insinuation that there was something abnormal about him. “I suppose that's more than can be said for you, isn't it? Seeing as your family's dead and all.”

It was a mean thing to say and Lovely knew it, but then that was the entire reason he said it.

They were soon distracted, in any case, as a familiar head of blue and pink hair collided with Ilian, inner-tube and all.

“Chailee...” he said. “Uh... I've been fine. Chailee, this is Ilian. Ilian this is Chailee.”

He made the introductions somewhat grudgingly, and only because it would have been rude of him not to. He might not have any qualms about being mean to his guy friends, but he'd never get a girlfriend if he didn't work at impressing the girls.

“We were just going to find something to eat, actually,” he finished quickly. He didn't want Ilian to get it into his head that swimming would be a good idea.

Haven stared awkwardly at Peter's rambling, clearing her throat when he was finished and shifting a bit on her feet uncomfortably. She hated that she felt weird around him now, for whatever reason. She hadn't felt weird when they'd been attending the same school. In fact, it was only recently that she developed the nervous feeling she seemed to get around him now.

She assumed it was something to do with puberty and growing up. Her mind was forced to admit that Peter wasn't bad looking even as her thoughts struggled to remain innocent. They were school rivals, barely friends. She never knew what to say around him these days, and Peter had made it pretty clear before that he didn't appreciate the attitude that seemed to develop whenever she tried.

“If you could drop me off at home, that would be nice,” she said. She hoisted her tote back further up her shoulder, glancing off to the side and continuing to hide beneath the shadow of her hat. “I don't want to intrude. Grandpa expects me home tonight, anyway. I was going to have Jonah pick me up, but if you don't think Paris would mind...”

Haven trailed off for a moment, struggling for something else to say. It helped that Peter had hit on a topic of curiosity for her.

“Why'd you move in with Michael?” she asked.

It was weird enough thinking that she wouldn't be in the same school as Peter. It was even weirder that she no longer saw him across the street.

The young man that arrived soon after him was taller than Auguste, his dark hair longer on one side than it was the other. He was given a curious, interested look, Auguste peering at him with a pleasant expression on his face, and clearly this man knew Nadia, if the look he wore when he was staring at her was any indication.

His attention was momentarily drawn to the cat - which Auguste hadn't noticed at first, but now gave a big smile, because he was nothing if not a lover of all animals, any shape and size - but then was pulled back to the black haired man, and then it clicked into place as to who exactly he was.

"Ah!" said Auguste brightly, eyes alight with excitement. He reached out and extended a slender hand to him.

"Je suis en effet Auguste!" he said. "It's delightful to meet you, you must be Lorne, are you not? Nadia's spoken of you quite a bit, I've been looking forward to making your acquaintance!"

Was she actually flirting with him? Or was she just naturally that freaking cute and alluring? These were the thoughts that streamed through his head as he tried, pretty unsuccessfully, to ignore them.

Brushing back his own long hair, to make sure it didn't get it's own coating of sticky sunscreen he gingerly took the offered bottle. He was fine with Pacman - he'd certainly been called worse things in his lifetime, and girls got a lot of leeway anyway. He was squirting a liberal amount of sunscreen into his hands when she offered her own name which received a nod from him that she likely couldn't see. "It's long but very exotic. Almost a shame to shorten." Des was the most likely option. Though Demona was pretty sultry and a more likely choice if/when he 'bragged' to a bunch of teens while gaming online at work tomorrow.

The lotion was in his hand long enough to make sure the temperature of it was fine, not too cool or too hot, before he proceeded with only minor hesitation. Smearing a swath of the cream across her back and shoulder blade he went back with his fingers and a little more pressure to rub until the lotion disappeared. He was even doing pretty well at keeping cool and 'adult' when he started until he worked a little further downwards, near the small of her back, and she began asking about the guitar. "I.. ahh." If she could see back over her shoulder well enough she'd notice the absolutely stupid grin on his face, and upward roll of his eyes as he tried to think of something cool to say. "I'm good with my hands." He settled on finally with a little bit of a laugh. "Would you like to hear something?"

It was probably only the thought of age again, and whether she'd even be a fan of his music selection (a large collection of 80's and 90's rock, a smattering of videogame music, and a semi random selection of the more modern songs) that kept him from physically shuddering as his hands trailed towards her waist.

Keep it cool Boone. She could just be very friendly. This totally wasn't some Penthouse style situation with a sexual little minx named Mona that was going to make all his wildest dreams come true. He was old enough to know that s**t wasn't real, even if the inner teenager was insisting otherwise.

"Do you.. go to DCU?" He asked trying to distract himself and subsequently discover exactly how guilty he should feel.

Nadia's text came at a time when he was supposed to be working on a solo piece for some charity function but was, in fact, working on something to post on Youtube. "Hmm..." Colin looked at the scar on his hand and clenched his fist; he should probably not go. Only...he was feeling antsy and wanted to see his friends (if Nadia texted him, she'd texted the other guys too - she was reliable like that) and also, Ash was there. No doubt the beautiful Silver Lady would be expecting him to come by, show his face.

So he shot a text back at her, whistling happily as he typed out a reply.
pixie nyxie
Be there soon!

Colin dug out his swim shorts and packed a spare dance-bag with things for the beach, including a towel, sun screen, two decks of cards, and a few other various items he thought might be useful. He also grabbed a cooler to put vegetarian-friendly snacks in, since people often didn't think about those sorts of things, hopped in his car, and headed off to the location his friend had sent him.

Once there, he took in the growing crowd through his sunglasses, a broad smile on his face. This hadn't been a bad idea, at all, but a great one. There were a good number of people who's faces he knew - even Paris was there, with her husband! Colin spotted Lorne, Auguste, Nadia and Ash and headed over, a breeze flattening his t-shirt against his stomach. What a lovely day to be at the beach.

Colin called out to his friends as he neared, "Hey guys, looking good!" Nadia looked amazing, as she usually did, Auguste was pale but looked comfortable at least...and Lorne, well...maybe he'd feel better about his brief swimsuit now that Colin had arrived? Since his showed more skin by far.

Ash, of course, looked better than anyone else. But that was to be expected, wasn't it?

"Oh, I wasn't talking about literal leeches. I assume if those were here, then we'd have more than a few people running out of the water. But, I'm sure there's a few people here," hazel eyes shifted around in suspicion, "that want to suck something out of you." He offered a wry smile, just before the cigarette was plucked from his mouth. Not that you're talking to one or anything. I'd never objectify someone.

"Dmitry, hmm?" Isaiah splayed fingers across the man's mouth, lingering for a moment, before he reclaimed his cigarette for a drag of his own. "How Slavic. Well, Dmitry, the sun and I would be better friends if it wouldn't burn the s**t out of me for stepping outside. Hostile little ********, that." Though lately his store seemed more amenable to the owner taking off at will, he wasn't so lucky in previous years. Even if he wanted to see the sun in New York, business wouldn't permit it. A vitamin D deficiency loomed on his horizons, he knew.

But that's what supplements are for.

"I could give you my real name or a fake name. Most people scoff at the real name and take the fake names with ease." Fingers pressed down on the front lip of Dmitry's phone so Isaiah might glimpse the text message at hand. "So you take your pick. James Reynolds or Isaiah Zähne. Call me both, call me neither." Some people present hadn't known his real name, and yet met Scholomance and knew which face to associate with the page. Would that be Dmitry as well? He doubted it, though no one offered a particular 'look' to him that indicated a powered identity.

Nadia smiled as Colin joined them, reaching over to the sunshine and kissing him on the lips as well, though not as strongly as Lorne's. Just a friendly kiss. All of her boys were gathered here, with the exception of one.

Though she assumed that Andrew (Isaiah) was about somewhere. it wouldn't be hard to spot him if she willed herself to leave to look for him. She wanted her own drinks, and when they were made readily available, she wanted to take advantage of them.

"Excuse me, Colin you know everyone here! Would you mind looking after Ash for me?" She reached down to pet the cat, "I hate to leave her alone without a lap she knows to sit in!" Not that many would know she was her guardian and not just a normal cat. The most it was, was a ploy to keep Ash out and about, and surround her with cute men to look at.

"I am gonna grab some drinks." She grinned, "I'll be back in a minute." As she walked by, she walked past Isaiah, tilting her head to rubber neck at him and then smiling. So he had come! Wouldn't Colin and Lorne be pleased! Another friend. She waited till she could catch his eye before blowing him a kiss, turning on her heel towards the drinks.

"You let your girlfriend kiss other guys? Really Lorne?" Kyle said, as he approached his cousin, now that he was done making gagging noises out of Lorne's hearing range. "Let me know how that turns out will you?" His gaze shifted from his cousin to the young girl that usually accompanied him. "...Nadia." He mumbled, his tone dull. Kyle still wasn't too fond of her, but she made his cousin happy, and that's what counted.

Sorta.

Kyle then seemed to glance at the others around his cousin, blinking at them. "...Am I interrupting. I can go?"

Lorne hadn't been to many parties; it was easy to forget how quickly one could swell up like a tide, depositing noise and bodies every which was. He tried to keep focused on his little group of friends, because the noise was already just a little overwhelming, and there were just too many strangers. If he'd been alone, he probably would have just wallflowered it out under a tree if he'd even gone at all. (He would've gladly sat with Ash whether he'd known her or not, of course, but she was a cat - cats went by a completely different set of rules in his book.)

But he wasn't alone - and Nadia's kiss, as passionate as it was, reminded him. It left his knees weak and his fraying nerves smoothed, easing the tense edges of his smile and drawing him back into the moment. (No matter how flushed his cheeks were after the fact.) So when Auguste offered that hand in greeting, Lorne was able to take it. "Oh , merveilleux! That I am!" To have him introduce himself without so much as a stutter, at a party no less, was truly a testament to something - be it Lorne's effort or the sheer influence a kiss from his beautiful girlfriend could have on him. "Nadia's told me nothing but delightful things about you. The pleasure's all mine, really."

Then there was Colin, and really, no, his swimsuit did literally nothing to help Lorne feel better. Not that his eyes would ever stray from Nadia, they were only for her, but he'd be completely lying if he said Colin didn't look fantastic too. Either way, though, he was no less delighted to see him, flashing him a broad, toothy smile as he waved. The kiss between them didn't phase him; he'd had a brief, minor internal struggle when Auguste had entered the picture on whether or not he should be jealous. But no. He trusted Nadia implicitly, and it would be too much wasted time and negative feelings if he fretted over every little thing she did. Nadia would flirt. That was her nature. To try and change that was to try and change her, and he had no desire to do that.

However, another voice, familiar but unexpected suddenly had his full attention. Lorne whirled, yellow eyes going bright as stars as comprehension dawned on him. "Kyle!!" His voice carried; he never got that loud unless he was screaming in agony or something. (It still wasn't that loud, really, just loud for him.) Like he hadn't even heard his comment about Nadia, he flung his arms around his cousin, laughing as he pulled him into a tight embrace. "I only just heard you were - I hadn't expected to see you for - Kyle! It's so good to see you!"

"I think you did, too," Elysha gave a nod in agreement and beamed with her reply, "I also like seeing nature woven into my surroundings like how this place is accessible living here in Destiny City." Her gaze moved to the food area and back to Gwen as she went on, "Yes, I'll also have a closer look at the selection and have a plate of food to munch on while I'm here. It looks and smells delicious." And then she chuckled as she added while she began to get up from her seat and prepare to walk over to the source of the yummy aromas with Gwen, "I think when I do have a closer look, everything will seem even more tantalizing. I was so focused in not knowing exactly whether or not to expect traffic that I hadn't had a whole lot to eat before arriving here. So, I'll look into keeping a plate for snacking to avert the possibility of feeling so hungry. But I've also got to make sure I don't get too full to swim as well. The water looks equally delightful for a swim."

Her scanning vision also caught sight of the volleyball court in the sand and she asked Gwen when her eyes traveled across the surroundings back and forth again, "How about volleyball? Do you play? Admittedly, aside from learning how in gym class growing up, I did participate on the high school team for one quarter years ago. But in terms of my favorite sport, mine is basketball."

Chris stared out at the lake as he and Paris sat there on the beach. Part of him wanted to get up and do something, as he usually felt restless when he was not Valhalla, but at the same time, the calm was… nice.

He glanced over to Paris when she voiced her concern, trying to gauge her expression but realized she was doing a pretty good job of trying to hold back any kind of reaction from him. Was she afraid? “I don’t know,” he admitted, but smiled either way. “I always figured I would have kids one day, I just didn’t expect it to be so soon. It’s not like there’s anything you could have done about it. We’ll figure it out, right?”

He knew she was worried, but he figured as long as something dramatic didn’t happen to them again, they should be fine. Besides, there were worse things than children.

*************************

“Lovely was on his way to find something to eat,” Ilian amended, attempting to guard the hurt he was sure could be seen in his hazel eyes at Lovely’s comment. “If you’re heading to the water, I’d be more than happy to accompany you, Chailee,” he said, slowly turning from Lovely so he could show her a winning smile.

Whatever he had done to Lovely aside from existing, he had no idea. The other boy was always switching from hot to cold, pleasant to ill-tempered. Ilian had no idea how to read him and the fact that he so casually threw around the fact that his family was dead, well, he hoped Lovely didn’t think he solely relied on him for his livelihood. He had his own job, was living on his own, and if he ended up not having a ride, he could always just power up.

“I like how your inner-tube matches your hair. It’s cute,” he added cheerfully, taking another step towards the water. “Which high school do you go to?”

Kolina
No worries!

*************************

Well, that was a slightly better reaction than he was expecting, and Peter let out a small breath that he’d been holding, preparing himself for Haven to nag at him. “You wouldn’t be intruding. I don’t even know if Michael will be home or not. He’d either be out at a bar or on pa-- uh…” he backtracked, realizing Haven might not know that his brothers were also involved in the whole war thing.

“Paris wouldn’t mind. She owes me, anyway.” For what, well… he would have to come up with that when the time came. Although he was sure he could remind her of a few things from over the years.

As for why he was living with Michael now, Peter shrugged. “I’ve got plenty of reasons, although I guess the most acceptable answer is that it’ll be easier since we’ll be both going to the same school, anyway.” He didn’t know how in depth Haven wanted him to go, but for now he would leave it at that. “Did you want to get a spot on the beach before it’s all taken?” he asked, realizing they were just standing there.

Tolliver could not remember the last time he'd felt so completely exposed in public.

He'd already been hesitant about going in the first place - Tolliver was nothing if not a homebody, and his shyness and anxiety tended to lead him to staying in rather than going out. And not only that, but it would be the first time in public he'd be seen with Hitch - another man - barring their night at the club. But Hitch's enthusiasm had spilled over enough that he'd actually sort of wanted to go by the end.

Now, although he wasn't exactly regretting his decision, Tolliver felt terribly unsteady. He was all but clinging to his boyfriend's hand, fingers laced firmly together, and his other hand was secure around the same wrist, Tolliver leaning against him. His own swimsuit was rather plain, and he was wearing a black shirt over it, though this was a mistake. The heat bore down on them both, scalding the back of his neck.

"Where...where should we go?" Tolliver asked, and then smiled, just a little.

"And try not to punch people, please."

Even Delphine was capable of taking breaks - didn't necessarily mean she wanted to, but it was plausible. When word got around about a beach party (and the free food), the young woman was admittedly tempted. It was fairly easy to coerce her into going to the event with Kamboja and his current flame. She didn't mind Sana terribly, and for the most part they got along. Her tolerance for Kam had clearly just carried over to some of the people he associated with. Just some. Most of them annoyed the ever-living s**t out of her.

It was a goddamn mercy that Kam had gotten a second place, just so he could keep all of his trash there instead of her apartment.

She had taken her motorcycle, which was a few years old now but still handled well. It had been a gift from her parents, back when they... actually got along and when she could weasel every little thing from them. Parking her bike, she waited a few minutes for Kam and Sana to catch up - they had the booze because there was no way she could carry all her supplies on her bike alone. She had already lathered herself up with sunscreen, which was an absolute necessity when she was pasty white as all hell. Her skin practically screamed in agony at the sight of daylight. Delphine was wearing a simple white t-shirt over a tiny black bikini. Her blue hair was pulled back into a loose bun, and in the summer heat was one of the few occasions where she would actually have her hair done up.

Delphine thought she looked pretty damned good, and she really had to be considering she'd be standing next to Sana for half the day. She refused to be the ugly one out of the pair, though really with Kam around he'd take the fall for them both. The young woman smirked to herself at the malicious little thought. If she had a penny for every time she demeaned someone else for her own benefit, she'd be really ******** rich by now.

Seeing Kam and Sana pull up, she waved to her friends before she started to make her way down through the clearing and towards the food table. A girl had to have her priorities, and she sure as hell didn't cook lunch herself today when she knew free food was just around the corner. Over the years she had gotten to be a better cook, but convenience always won out over prepping a nice meal. She was a busy lady - had asses to kick, a world to save, all that mumbo and jumbo.

So, when free food was around she just had to take it. "I don't think I've been out like this at all this summer. I'm going to burn into a crisp." She greeted her friends when they finally caught up to her, giving them both an envious look over. Dark-skinned bastards.

Chailee smiled at Lovely as he introduced her to Ilian. She'd certainly never seen the boy around before. She was about to comment on the food thing when Ilian hopped in.

Oh that smile.

Chailee could feel her cheeks turning red again, if they ever recovered from her bout of embarrassment. "Nice to meet you." She got out as she lightly clutched her inner tube.

And of course he had to continue on with the flattery. At this point Chailee wasn't quite sure what to do with herself. She felt excited but at the same time uncomfortable with the attention. "Oh uh. Thanks. I thought it would be fun." She smiled shyly. "Oh I go to Meadowview. How about you? I've not seen you around before."

She moved to take a step to follow Ilian but stopped and looked at Lovely. "Are you sure you don't want to join us? It will be fun! She silently hoped that Lovely would join them, after all it would make her feel a little more comfortable to be with a familiar face, even if they weren't all that close. "I mean, if you want, we can get food then get in?" She looked back at Ilian questioningly.

Gwen got up from her spot on the beach and grabbed her plate and empty wine cup. "Well then let's have at it! We've got all day and I intend to enjoy every little morsel of food and drink I can get." She laughed.

She led the way to the food tables. She glanced over in the direction that Elysha was looking and shook her head. "No. I was never much for it. I can't say I really enjoy throwing myself in the sand to keep a ball going in the air. I like the beach, but don't like it all over me." She shrugged as they came upon the grass clearing and to the tables.

Gwen wasted no time in filling up her cup with more wine. She could drink like a fish. Those Irish genes were good for something she supposed. As she stood there she turned and looked at the other tables of food and drink while she sipped at her wine.

There were quite a bit of kids here. To be expected she supposed. School would be starting soon and they wanted to get their last kicks in. There were also a few around her age though. Notably a man with dark hair who was talking to another good looking man. This area definitely seemed to have a lot to offer.

Taking another sip of her wine she glanced over at Elysha. "So, have you found yourself a guy since moving here?" She wasn't sure if she was being too upfront but she knew she wouldn't be bothered by such a question.

When Gwen began walking Elysha followed in beginning to do so too despite Elysha's seat being closer to their destination. So though Elysha ended up having made it to the spread of food and drinks some steps ahead of Gwen due to taking into account this comparison of their seats' distances, Elysha remained in earshot for sure.

It was after arriving there that Elysha's mind had managed to put together and finished formulating another reply. She grinned to Gwen in agreement as she said with a nod that was followed by a transition into resuming her browse, "Indeed there are so many treats here in the food and drinks area to choose from and indulge in." She was insecure about her social skills, but Elysha persisted to try her best to do as well as she can.

Then when her gaze traveled back to seeing Gwen as she was further addressed, Elysha's gaze followed Gwen's to where two good-looking guys were chatting and then moved her gaze at an unchanging pace to scan other happenings in the area. She was of the mind that avoidance while aiming to upkeep politeness in light of her comfort zone helps her steer towards keeping platonic relations with men so admiration stays admiration and doesn't grow past that towards falling hard for one.

"I can't say I'm a fan of playing volleyball on sand as well. I tried it several times and it's certainly different from playing on level ground. But when it comes to sports, for the most part I tend to like to participate in trying them, such as to get an idea of them at least," She went through motions to distract herself from staring where she intended not to stare, starting with putting a burger on her plate as she responded to Gwen's question a bit nervously but still with continuing affable and genuine good cheer. After thinking to try the burger Gwen had that looked delicious, she had to pause and look around for what else she would end up choosing since everything looked like such a treat it was hard to pick. She ended up adding an apple and a serving of cashews to her plate.

"Admittedly, with how my juggling of different parts of my life is looking at present, I am feeling that it should be just me, myself, and I until further notice," Elysha replied with a smile and an attempt at maintaining a calm exterior. If there was a publicized list of things Elysha feared, she'd sooner face an array of animals or heights than add to her nearly nonexistent personal experiences of romance even if only by a small margin. But it may be unneeded to go into further detail than the two statements she'd just given in reply perhaps. Decidedly, she asked the question in kind but certainly willing to accept any reply given that Gwen was comfortable with, "How about you, Gwen?"

There was a part of Paris that was afraid. It was a lot to take in, waking up and realizing you'd lost about four years of your life. It must be strange and frightening for Chris, being with her when he recognized her as little more than the girl he'd asked on a date, having his own house when he was used to his apartment or staying with his parents, considering the prospect of raising children when the last thing he remembered was being eighteen and finishing up his first year of college.

Paris tried to put herself in his place and found it a difficult feat to accomplish. Four years had brought a lot of changes in her. She'd grown up, learned forgiveness, fallen in love, and created a family of her own. She didn't know what she'd do with herself if she suddenly forgot all of that. It was too much to expect anyone to be completely okay with it.

She didn't want Chris to grow to resent her, placing all of this on his shoulders when he was at his most vulnerable. She didn't want him to regret anything.

She didn't say any of that. She knew what Chris's response would be—he would insist that he was fine, push himself to prove himself and pretend as if losing four years didn't bother him as much as Paris knew it had to.

“Do you want to go for a swim?” she asked instead, setting her drink aside in the sand. She sat up and took her hat off, then unraveled her lace sarong from around her hips.

Lovely felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either he could refuse to go swimming with Chailee and Ilian and potentially reveal his embarrassing aversion to all things water related, or he could agree to accompany them and prove himself inadequate.

Neither instance was at all appealing.

He almost took Chaillee up on her offer to get food first; maybe he'd be able to stall and further distract them with food, then a game of volleyball. But the smiling and the blushing got to him. It wasn't fair that Ilian should be getting all of the attention when Lovely was the one who knew Chailee. And yet he felt like little more than an afterthought in this situation.

“We can swim, if that's what you want,” he said, agreeing for Chailee's sake more than for Ilian's. For Ilian her reserved a frown and a small glare. “He goes to Hillworth, by the way,” he told Chailee. “Don't let the innocent smile fool you. He's an uncultured swine.”

Haven felt her face heat up more when Peter practically invited her over to Michael's house knowing that they would be alone. She was sure he didn't mean anything by it—she didn't think Peter was the type for ulterior motives, especially not with her—but it made her feel no less awkward. She shuffled her feet in the sand, and cleared her throat of the nervous lump that had formed.

She decided the best course of action would be to not comment on it. She would accept the ride from Peter's sister-in-law, but she would continue to insist that she be taken home. Anything else would be far beyond what she, at fourteen years old, was ready for.

“Come on,” she said when he suggested finding a spot on the beach.

Haven led the way to a spot some distance from the volleyball court, close enough to where Chris and Paris were to be able to see them, but far enough away so that their respective conversations could be had in private. From the depths of her bag Haven pulled out a towel and soon spread it along the sand.

“Sorry,” she was quick to apologize, “I only have one.”

She hadn't exactly been expecting him to join her. She thought she would have said something to have him storming off by now. She supposed she was a bit too confused by the situation to say anything unintentionally rude.

In any case, she was still curious about his new living arrangements. “I can't imagine your mother's very happy about it,” she said. “You staying with Michael, I mean. That's... a very grown up thing to do, leaving home.”
