It wasn't something he could really help her with. Telling her he could give her what she needed or wanted, or believing he could fix her like a puzzle. Maebe was changing, and it was best to leave it be. Both of them were trying not to fix their problems the way they used to. He couldn't say of course you're wanted. He couldn't say that she'd find someone. He couldn't make false promises, even for the sake of making her feel better. If she could see past this and win, she'd come out stronger. He hoped. Yet he was no good with words. All he could think of to say again was 'yeah that bites'. As if he could say that... Another I'm sorry would be redundant. So what did a normal friend do in such a situation? What did more eloquent friends do for others? He couldn't even be sure if not hunting Dawson was for the best, or encourage her otherwise. He just didn't know. "At least you're loved." It wasn't really the best reassurance. Maebe wanted something else, after all. It seemed almost hollow, like saying 'yeah you missed the bus but at least theres another one in one hour'. "Sorry, I didn't know what else to say.."

At least you're loved. She felt the warm, pleasant rumble of an agreeing weapon in her mind, and her eyes rolled as Otto apologized for his attempt to make her feel better. But he was right, even if he thought it was lame. He was right, because there was no way to ignore how good it felt when she thought about the people who loved her. She'd never been able to separate between love and sex, because sex was all there was. It was difficult, but no less rewarding, to attempt to remind herself that somehow, there were people who claimed to love her in this world. And she believed them. That was the real miracle. "You don't have to apologize." She whispered, pressing her fingers affectionately against his lips and running them across the soft skin. "You're right. You're just right."

By some miracle, he'd helped. He felt relief, and relaxed his posture. He wanted all of Maebe's dreams to come true. He wanted her to be happy. But to be truly happy, maybe she wouldn't need to be wanted the way she hoped. Suddenly, he had an evil thought. He leaned up to one of her lenses, and breathed on it to fog it up. Brat mode was mistakingly activated.

She was now blind in one eye. She took off her glasses, used her finger to carve a heart out of the fog, and put them back on again. How romantic. "b***h." Less romantic.

Otto smirked. "My street cred was in trouble. I needed to fix it."

"How can your street cred be in trouble when it's just you and me? I already know you're just a squishy, sugar sweet softie inside. You can't lose any more cred with me." She leaned forward, her lips pressing firm and demanding against his, until she was leaning so hard it would make him have to lean back to compensate. "You're just a big, harmless little kitten. Do you even have claws anymore? I can't remember."

Otto was indeed forced back. With words, with lips. She was right, of course. She knew him well. Too well, he feared. But, well, she accepted him as is. So really, what was the harm? "I do... can... maybe." His claws didn't come out near as much anymore. He found he wasn't nearly as angry at the world as he had been so long ago. Not even at himself, anymore.

"You do can maybe." She repeated, settling to lay down on top of him triumphantly. Her smile was smug as hell, but her eyes spoke volumes of her unending affection. "You are the most eloquent kitten who may or may not have claws that I've ever met."

Otto looked up at her with resounding huffiness. Words were never his forte, after all. He couldn't even think of a rebuttal to her sassy comments. So he stuck his tongue out at her instead.

"Neeeeeh!" He whined, trying to pry her fingers off his tongue. Honestly, he'd expected something like this. Why he went through with it anyway, he wasn't sure. Obstinate behaviour again. He tried to say 'Lemme go' but it was hardly understandable with no tongue.

She let his tongue go, and eyed him carefully over the rim of her glasses.
"Have you learned your lesson, young man?"

His tongue escaped into his mouth again, his blue eyes leering untrusting at the young woman. "Yeah, probably." He grumbled. He almost wanted to pinch her as counter punishment but was pretty sure Maebe would win that too.

She would.
"Good boy." She purred out, leaning forward with dangerously half-lidded eyes. "Then I'll let you get off without detention."

"Lucky me." He murmured back. He wondered if Maebe was just close in a friendly way, a Maebe way, or an alluring way. Sadly, he was unable to differentiate between them. "Wait, are you playin' teach now, Miss I Got New Glasses?"
