"No, but you're a battle partner all the same," he answered as if it were synonym for a friend. Even though it was a past he couldn't remember, it still stung for some reason to hear her shrill tone as she spat out her words. Maybe because though they spent a lot of time fighting creatures more than anything else, Jack had come to consider these people his (rather eclectic mix of) comrades. This felt like a small betrayal, and it wasn't enough to understand that their circumstances were dire and would of course bring about dire reactions.
He said nothing and waited to see if Chel was going to drag him through the mud some more.

"I don't remember a goddamn," she spat, putting an arm around Chris' waist. "And with anything to do with you," she said pointedly at Jack, "I hope it stays that way."
Then she leapt, taking the skies again, hopefully to a place where Jack wouldn't follow.
