There was the slightest of comfort in the knowledge that his illness had not potentially been a direct result of her cooking. Mildred suspected that she hadn't ever been a cook of any sort, and didn't really know where her knowledge of the trade came from. In retrospect, that probably should have been an indicator to avoid eating and feeding anyone anything that she made. Robert seemed lost in thought as they set off, which she found rather intriguing. She couldn't recall seeing him so lost in his musings, if that was indeed what was happening, so she remained silent and left him to it. QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 33 YOUR HP: 30

After three days of sickness, he was sure that he was now immune to dysentery.
For like. A whole day.
He had to wonder what exactly dysentery was, as he rode along quietly. He was lost in thought, just trying to figure out what it was that made them sick. Was it in the air, just some kind of virus that floated around until it found a human to sneak into and destroy? It certainly couldn't be the food - there were some days when he hadn't even eaten yet, and he got sick before he'd managed a mile! So what was it that got them so ill? He considered whether perhaps his clothing had traces of some kind of illness still on them, even after washing and rinsing thoroughly. Nothing seemed to fit, so there was only one logical answer.
Dysentery was a plague of the gods.
They were being cursed for the pleasure and amusement of beings far above their realm of consciousness. Bastards.

The self-imposed silence soon turned to staring, as Mildred took full advantage of the fact that Robert's mind was focused elsewhere. Maybe she couldn't see all of the physical attributes that he was so proud of, that others found attractive - not all the time, at least - but she could see something else. She could stare endlessly and not even see all of him, because when she looked at him, she saw something more. She didn't understand it, not yet, but she knew that he was different. Important. And that was a wonderfully meaningful thing to-- Cause her to run into a bees' nest, obviously. QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 67 YOUR HP: 30 Quote: Rolling a 3: You accidentally ride into a bees nest. Poor Mildred seemed to have a true calling for bees, and he was too late to keep her safe from them this time. He would have tried, if not for the wild wolf pack that began to surround his own horse. He canted backwards, pulling them away from Mildred just enough to keep their attention, and then he sheathed hsi sword to attack. Several well placed swipes dispatched them, but not before they had managed a bite or two. He hobbled back up onto his horse, and assured her that twas not but a scratch. No, really, he said it just like that. Comfortable with his battle scars, he rode onward. Step One Quote: Rolling a 2: You encounter a wild *animal here* that is extremely rabid and ferocious. Skeptical that he could manage to avoid any notable injuries after not only rescuing her from wolves, but fending them off alone as she handled the bee problem, Mildred leaned towards him in an attempt to better inspect his injuries. Then fell right off her horse, who took the opportunity to go on without her again. "A scratch and a bite," she corrected, easily catching sight of one such wound as she pushed herself up and brushed herself off as best she could. She then extended her hand expectantly towards him, awaiting his assistance to help her up onto his horse. Galaxy was much larger than her own Moon, and she wasn't ashamed to admit that this was one instance where her capability was truly lacking. If there was a voice in his head at any point, it spoke now, whispering something about how he almost just caught dysentary, but barely managed to miss it. He sneezed, just once, and then continued forward with her on the journey. Only a few steps later, he found a magical box of food sitting on the path side, and he hopped off of the horse to go check it out. Fresh, and untouched, it was enough for him to stuff into his satchels and take along with them. It was moments such as these that made him wonder if picking up food at the side of the road was why they kept getting dysentery in the first place. But no, that couldn't be it. Who would leave dysentery soaked food out in the open like that? No one, that's who! Step Two (Dysentery immunity reroll) Quote: Rolling a 2: Someone seems to have left food on the road for you! As Robert went to investigate the roadside treasure, Mildred patiently awaited his assessment of the discovery. When he reported that it was food, and placed it along with the rest of their stores, she bit her tongue and said nothing. He seemed so very pleased with this discovery - perhaps he really liked gifts of food. She didn't want to sully it. If the measure of success was to have an adventurous trip by Mildred's side and not get sick, then he was doing a fine job so far! Even as his horse trotted over a booby trap, and they had to speed off to keep from being bitten, he managed to keep the smile on his face. Just don't get sick, he kept repeating to himself. Just don't get sick. Just don't get sick. It doesn't matter what happens, just don't get sick. And so they'd made it! Robert headed up the mountainside first, grabbing a hold of the shoulderpads and plunking them on him as quickly as they could. They were gorgeous and looked like the rising sun, all golden and glittery and fancy just the way he liked it. "WE ARE VICTORIOUS!" He hollered out, promptly getting himself bowled over and off of the mountain completely by an avalanche that his booming voice had just caused. When he dug himself out of it, he quickly checked to make sure Mildred was safe as well. Really he needed to control that voice of his, that was the second time he'd caused an avalanche with it.. or was it the third? He couldn't remember anymore, his head was spinning from the fall. Moon was waiting for them near the end of their journey again, and Mildred gave her a curious once-over. Surely she was not capable of reading maps. Was she drawn to these objects in some manner? Were horses particularly attuned to this magic? As she adjusted the bags at the horse's side, Robert headed up the mountainside, eager to claim his rightful reward. She glanced up just in time to see his triumphant recovery of the artifact - and the unfortunate results of his cry of victory. Laughing, she moved to join him, carefully helping him brush himself off again as she tried to remain on steady ground. "Congratulations on our victory," she praised him, curtsying once before turning to collect her own quest item. QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 62 - 10 YOUR HP: 25
