His shield shook under the blow and he early let it drop despite how light the attack was. Dawson had been engaging in a lot of spare as of late, and it was beginning to show. "Naw, yer more like ground meat," he said with a wheezy laugh, trying not to let himself drag as he move in for another bash. "Kits are those, uh...Japanese foxes, yeah? This lil' lady on my shield's Syntyche, a chimera!" He would have rapped his knuckles as part of the introduction, but his body hurt a bit too much. "Well, I call her a lady, she's like three genders or somethin' crazy, I dunno." Hp: 7 Damage: 3

He laughed uproariously at this. "You are such a good partner to spar with, my friend!" Arorangi said, grinning.
He gave a nod, switching his spear again, but he could feel the FEAR shield growing thinner, stretching almost to the breaking point, and it was clearly getting to him. Arorangi's breath was coming out faster, and he was more sluggish in his movements, less precise.
"Yes, that is what I think they are, Japanese foxes!" he said brightly, to which Ari responded with an enthusiastic giggle. "What is a chimera, that is a strange word!"

He grinned his dimpled grin and tipped his cap at the compliment. "Not bad yerself, bruh. Chimeras are, uh...like three beasties in one?" Dawson tried to explain. "Some kinda Greek mess or whatever. Syn's a lion, ram, n' snake. Dragon?" he corrected himself, frowning slightly. "Hell, I dunno, some kinda serpent thing. Tryin' not t'look too closely at it, there's weird enough stuff, y'know?" "Oh, that is very interesting!" said Arorangi in fascination, swinging the spear sharply to the right and missing. "I know a little of mythology, but only of my own culture. That is really very cool, though, I have never heard of that kind of creature before!"

"Tha's the beauty a'this place, yea? Gettin' t'meet all these new people n' learn new stuff." Even if it was extremely scary at points, the diversity drew Dawson in, for better or for worse. It was more vivid than the white bread background he'd had.
Able to take advantage of Arorangi's wide swing, Dawson ducked into the space and hefted his shield like a hammer with an overhead arc.

"Getting to know people is my favorite part of being here," said Arorangi with a smile. He put a finger to his lips, like they were sharing a secret. "But do not tell the bosses, I know we are not here to be social, we are here to work. But I feel we can work better because we are being social and finding people that we like."
The shield swung into him, and the FEAR one gave a whine of protest, snapping beneath Dawson's last attack. Arorangi skidded backwards, almost falling over but catching himself at the last minute, chest heaving for breath as a wheezy laugh escaped him. His spear disa-speared disappeared.
"Thank you very much for that, my friend!" said Arorangi, grinning. "Now that we have sparred well together, we are officially teammates"

It took him a moment to understand that the snap meant a shield broke, which meant he had actually won a spar for once, which meant wait what. His shield dropped to the ground and nearly impaled his own foot, and with a hasty sound he desummoned it and bunched over, elbows on knees, sucking in deep breaths. Take it in, Dawson Grace: your first win on the practice field in almost seven months.
First he gave Arorangi a thumbs up, and then he heaved himself back to standing and wiped at his brow. "No prob, bro," he panted, face flushed with pleasure. Teammates, that was something. "Real close fight too! If ya need more sparrin', lemme know." Wheeze. "Also gotta find us some leave time fer that trip..."

Arorangi reached out a tattooed hand, offering it to Dawson.
"Congrats on kicking my behind!" he said brightly, cheerfully, still trying to catch his breath; but it was obvious that he was pleased as punch that Dawson had done so well during this particular spar. Arorangi swept his dreadlocks up into a knot, tying them with a band that he'd been wearing around his wrist.
"I will always need more sparring, I am getting closer to Intermediate, so I will need more experience!" he said with enthusiasm as he lowered his arms. "And yes, please, we will have to find ourselves a good time to go with our friends, it will be quite the adventure!"
