"Then I'd let you stay on the shithole," Chel said with a shrug. She couldn't possibly fathom why someone would want to stay on this godforsaken island, but, "Can't force none of ya to do nothin' you're not into." There's a shark's grin as she adds, "What, you not comin' with thigh highs?"

She put her hands behind her head, returning to Abbi's first part. "Always been open. Never liked secrets, yeah? Makes everything a mess. I s'pose I got more friends though- that s**t just comes with time." She looked up at Abbi and said, "Always been good at makin' friends. S'my one skill haw."

A small snort leaves Abbi and she leans forward to plant her chin on the top of Chel's head.
"I never said that." Its all she counters with, mostly because the logistics of being able to actually get away from the Island with no repercussions is nigh impossible. But that's something she doesn't want to get involved with and instead takes a step away.

"Maybe... But I think it means more now? Maybe?" The teen slides around to the front and slips back onto the desk, though at least close to Chel this time.
"You wanted to take us away... Why not anyone else?" Why not the whole Island?

"Caaause I don't care about other people?" She wiggled her fingers and said, "Newsflash Abs, I'm an a*****e."

The reality was different from her words, but maybe let that one lie. "This sounds like we're talkin' 'bout somethin' else now. You got anythin' on yer mind?"

There are few times when Abbi's facial expression ever really falls from looking generally pleased, but she gladly lets it fall this time to frown and raise her eyebrows at Chel.
"I don't believe that for a second, and I bet you don't either."

But the look is erased a second later when the teen sighs heavily enough that her bangs momentarily flutter up off her forehead.
"No. I'm not..." A hand rubbed at one cheek, then neck. "I'm not really good at this? I mean, I guess I kinda am cause yanno... You asked for my help but... People are still new to me." Being that honest felt weird, but good.

"Has Jack done anything else lately? Anything... Weird?" Going back to that felt safer.

"Naw hush," Chel cooed at Abbi. "Yer perfectly good at it. S'why I asked t'talk to you lil lady~" She winked, recalling Abbi's meek nature during their Halloween extravaganza. Underneath the ball of excitement was actually a lot of insecurity, and Chel was happy to coddle it into submission.

Jack was much harder to broach than endless showers of compliments. "Hmmm..." She thought about his half-lidded eyes, his drive to get her a stupid pig. "We went out for my birthday- that count?"

That did something, however small, to mend Abbi's feelings and she nodded gently.

"Oh yeah!" Here she perked up quite a lot, enough that her hair bounced a bit in her excitement. "You guys went to the Lazer Tag place! You looked like you were having a good time! I'm surprised Jack got so into it."

It took a good amount of beats before Abbi realized she'd just totally blown her cover.

Chel looked at her with the most weirded out expression.

"How ******** you know that?"

"Crapbaskets." asdgkl;'asdgkl;'asdg NO NO ABORT ABORT
"C-Cause you told me in your text! The cute one you sent of that selfie, yanno, of you guys! It was so cute!"

A sort of reedy laugh left her as she snatched up a pigtail to play with, half in hopes she could hold it tight against her body and roll backwards off the desk and just bolt out of the hallway.
"Chris was super jelly you didn't invite us! H-he came to visit m-me cause you were gone and you didn't celebrate Galentines with me an-and we t-talked a lot about Mass Effect, he likes my Thane poster, he says you guys didn't romance him, you totally should have--" Could she run now?

Chel said nothing, very calmly looking to her phone and tapping furiously.

She wasn't mad, just disappointed.

"One, don't you ever ********' do that again. Ever. If you wanna tag along, you ********' tell me. Don't weed around in the grass like some a** backwards snake." She was all for fun and games, but not when it came to what she wanted to be a day alone with Jack. The annoying part was that had she been in Abbi's shoes, she would have done the exact same thing. Chel had an annoying sense of duality to her. Hypocrisy, more correctly. "Two, what the ******** is galentines."

Her third point came in a non-verbal communication, by her crossing her arms.

Critical Mission Failure.

If it were possible for her to shrink down to the size of a rabbit and scurry right out of the room she would have. People didn't get quiet angry around her, they were always explosive because she was so stupid and she didn't think things through an-and--
"Don't get mad at Chris! It was all my idea! H-he didn't want to go!" Semi-lie. "I made him go with me! He couldn't say no to my puppy face!" Truth.

But she shrank back after that and dropped her face to look at her lap.
"Its like Valentines day, but for your gal pals. You have brunch and give each other cute things... Its from a show its... Nothin'."
If she didn't look at the crossed arms she wouldn't feel the guilt, something she was so unused to it seemed to weigh down more than might normally have.

Chel didn't have it in her to crush Abbi between her legs. Chris was definitely getting a fist full of fury later though- that's how they talked things out. They wrestled and beat their problems into submission.

Not Abbi though. Abbi got the full brunt of the disappointed mother that Chel had absorbed from her own mother. "Don't lie to me too Abbi. Yer better than that. I know Chris like he's me- he wouldn't go if he wasn't into it."

Chris was definitely dead later.

"Listen- you coulda asked me as many questions you want 'bout what we did- I woulda told ya the whole ********' story. You coulda even asked to go with." Honestly she would have been a bit annoyed, but she could never deny friends if they wanted something. "But I told ya I ********' hate secrets."

Little did Chel know the lengths Abbi would take to keep others out of trouble, most of which stemmed from being alone in her youth and therefore fully capable of taking the full force of this crippling disappointment. She would just... Kind of wallow for a good while and probably pull back from everyone and generally loathe herself and her poor decisions.
"I can be very persuasive." She pointed out meekly, her best defense toward protecting Chris.

A petulant child to the end, the teen only avoided Chel's gaze and waited until she was finished talking before speaking.
"I know... I'm sorry." Maybe Chel was right to regret asking Abbi for help.

"Forgiven cutie," Chel said nearly instantly. She didn't hold grudges- too much effort. Abbi was clearly sorry, and even if she wasn't, Chel wasn't going to sacrifice a dear friendship over a dumb prank.

Or what she hoped was a prank.

"Now no more lookin' sorry for yerself. What were we talkin' 'bout?" Already over and dealt with.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 17, 2015 10:16 pm

For a few seconds more Abbi wibbled, mostly because she could not swing herself out of melancholy so easy. Though she could push for brightness, she would surely spend the rest of the day feeling sorry for herself, and feeling sorry for betraying Chel. Even if it had been for her friend's own good, as the teen had promised herself she would intervene should Chel and Jack appear to not be having a good time.
She'd stuck her nose in already, but at least now she had both Jack and Chel's stamp of disapproval on the matter.

"Jack." The teen sat up straighter, though one hand still clutched at her hair. "You guys had fun... Was that the time that... Your uh... "Whoo-hoo" was different?"
