game 2
She found a glowing red ball and it made her feel at least a little bit better. Maybe she could take down a base and at least earn some point for her team-
but then Princess Leia wannabe shot her in the chest. This was supposed to be a fun birthday outing and she was ******** everything up.
< Don't you always? >

He had cover, she was in his sight, and she was distracted. Jack shot the princess while her eyes were on Chel, and then he shot again, and then again, and again as he advanced. The girl was pouting and unaware as she went to home base, and he thought, no, that wasn't quite enough, he wanted her to turn around and look him dead in the eye while she got blasted with lights in her eyes, and then when he got close enough--
< Jack! > Owain's alarm cut through. < What are you doing? >
Nothing, apparently. He stopped dead at the sound of the giant's voice, then turned and looked Chel over as if expecting something other than a flashing vest to be there. Then he blinked hard, caught movement behind her, and took a few shots at the little cretans. He rubbed his head with a grimace. The pain pills suppressed most of the pain, but the constant stimuli wasn't helping.
He heard noises behind him and turned, ready to strike out with the gun itself as Chel had predicted. Several of the Star Wars team gave him strange looks as they backed off and regrouped to skirt him. Jack rubbed his face again and heaved a sigh.

Incognito"Rude." Abbi set down her phone and curled her hands under her chin, just for extra measure. As for being bad for his health, nothing involving Abbi could be bad for anyone's health because she was a Battle Nurse and therefore nothing she did could be detrimental to someone's health. It was a rock fact. "We should find them." It was half-whispered because she just couldn't contain her excitement for the plot she was currently hatching. "We should find them and make sure they're having a good time... Yanno, since its her birthday... And stuff." And because being excluded was the worst and because, well, Abbi had stuck her nose in Chel and Jack's business before. It was time to make sure they were doing well! And to alter the timeline where she could, should it be needed. She was the most devoted of friends. "Puh-leeeassseeeee?" She cooed and leaned forward, batting her big blues and practically radiating sparkles.

Chel saw the employees eyeing Jack. She couldn't blame them- he had nearly hit a small child. That couldn't have been helping their case any.
So Chel did the first thing she could think of and jumped up on the nearest obstacle wall, climbing up it using Tenebrae to propel herself higher than she should have been able to. From there she could shoot quite a few more people, but-
"Miss! Please no climbing on the obstacles!"
"But-"
"Please get down or we'll have to ask you to leave."
Chel feigned annoyance, emphasized by a groan as someone shot her (from on top of the obstacle she was a huge target) and her vest went dark. She fell down the side of the wall onto the ground and huddled there for a moment to regain herself.

He watched her fall off the side and felt something crumble inside along with it. The game wasn't fun before and it wasn't getting any better. He grew sloppy with his shots, but his motions weren't tense anymore, and he didn't look as though he'd strike a passerby at the least. Jack was already accepting he was going to lose the bet and didn't bother to bob and weave as he had been before; his height would always make him a striking target, it seemed. Fine.
Towards the end he leaned against an uneven wall by their homebase and closed his eyes, trying to shut out the lights and sounds preemptively but with little success.

The sirens blared and Chel felt the game ebbing. Despite all things she was keeping a positive face on. She had protected Jack from getting them kicked out-
< You didn't do a thing, he appreciates nothing. >
-she had gotten a whole day without him leaving-
< Look at his face! He's thinking of walking now- all because you couldn't leave him be. >
-and it was still her birthday.
<It's February 16th, whore. >
She swallowed Tenebrae's commentary as she looked at the board and said, "Aw ********. How many shoes you got anyways?"

He was more reluctant this time to open his eyes; even behind his arm the light of the sun was still too harsh, like he was perpetually hungover. It took him a moment to register the numbers with an intent squint that bought him time to react, but he couldn't even wrestle up the satisfaction to gloat.
He took a breath, and when he spoke it wasn't out of residual anger but with a weariness that surprised even him: "More than I should." And then, "Don't worry about the bet." And then, a beat longer than the rest, with his hand seeking hers, "You didn't have to do that."

"You didn't have to buy me a ********' wii," Chel combated. A surprising red color painted her cheeks, Jack's comment having been nice, but his hand being remarkably warm.
She shook her head and said, "But no, I'm gonna do it. A bet's a ********' bet."

He sighed and pushed his glasses up. "I wasn't thinking when I said that one," Jack admitted. "Don't like people touching my things, least of all those." Like that wasn't obvious by now.
At a loss for what to do, he glanced at Chel. "What next, birthday girl? There's still daylight left."

"'Cause I-"
A voice interrupted the twosome as the scoreboard finished flashing. One of the attendants rumbled out in a voice that was so energetic it was clearly camoflauging a very bored individual. "Congraaaaatulations blue team- for winning twice in a row, everyone wins a MINOR PRIZE!! Or if you all win one more time, you can win a MAJOR PRIZE!!!"
Kids flocked to the counter and Chel gave a shrug, moving to the counter. Behind the shiny glass was a whole slew of useless objects, most of which Chel was still enamored with. "s**t they got everything here, don't they?" she said with a snort.
Her eyes fell on a box of plastic rings and Chel all but slapped her free hand on the counter pointing to it. "Those. Oh my god those- two of those."

"Anything on this wall here sir," the attendant said, waving to a section behind her. "But if you go for one of these, you forfeit the minor prize."
