Meebus blinked behind his glasses, pausing, then quickly gliding along to catch up with his trainer again. 'But, Zak-hav--' Meebus started, and Zak twitched in annoyance. WHY... 'What happens if we faint? If both of us faints?'"Feegure et out," his trainer drawled back, one arm holding the basketball to his side, the other gesturing dismissively, "Or just don't feint." Meebus blinked a few times, but sighed. 'Understood, Zak-hav. We will meet up with you at the basketball court.' It took Zak a moment, but by the time he jerked his head and looked around, Meebus had left with Totodile. Huh....
Shaking his head, he turned forward, entering into the city. The sun was beginning to lower itself below the horizon, but there were still a few hours of sunlight, and there would probably be some street lamp's that came on.
All in all, with the size of the city, it wasn't too hard to ask around and find a place, outside, to play some basketball. There were two hoops, about the right height, about the right distance apart, but Zak only needed one. The biggest, toothiest grin crossed his face, his eyes lighting up. Finally.

After releasing Sotnik and Deys, Zak carefully sliding his backpack off his shoulder and under a nearby bench. He set his basketball down, pulling out some athletic shoes from his bag -- from his spot off court, Sotnik was starting to seriously wonder whether there was a limit to the stuff that bag carried -- and changed into them. Standing, Zak grabbed the ball, and almost immediately, as he turned towards the hoop, his posture, his whole demeanor, changed. He swept across the ground so fast Sotnik nearly lost track of him, and the only thing that conveyed the fact that he was dribbling was the rapid sound of the ball hitting the ground. In one graceful, almost formless upward movement, Zak swept his arm up, carrying the ball and, with uncharacteristic gentleness, tossed the ball up, so that it perfectly arched from just off to the side of the net, up, and straight down through the center.
The Serperior blinked, curiously hitting his tail against the ground. Zak effortlessly darted forward, grabbed the ball, and without taking more than two steps, turned, lifting it, and making another shot-- from an angle that looked guaranteed to result with him falling hard on his back. But his leg was bent, and his foot shot back, hitting the ground to counter balance him. He swung his body forward with the movement, and pushed forward, snatching the ball as it came back down through the hoop. Then, with a grin more peaceful than most he wore, Zak started back, dribbling carelessly on his way over.
"So," he started, while Daeva hopped up onto the bench, apparently safely assuming she had no part in this, "I assume you've never played, Sotnik?"

Boo shuffled through Zak's bag, pulling out a chocolate bar (somehow) and joining Daeva on the bench to eat. Sotnik, meanwhile, glanced at them, then looked at Zak, swinging his head from side to side. "Vell, zen," Zak continued, smirking and lightly tossing the ball from one hand to the other, "Deys and I vill have to teach you." Sotnik was honestly not sure he wanted to -- or even could -- learn this sport. Moving to the bench, Zak tugged off his shirt, tossing it aside and passing the ball, with a sharp bounce against the ground and a hard forward spin to make it rocket over, to Deys, who caught it between his fins. "Your tail, vhen you get ze hang uv et, should be able to vork like Deysatnik's vings," Zak explained, running a hand back through his hair as he walked back over, "Perhaps even better, eef you can feegure out how to best utilize et, and ze rest uv your body. Et could akshully save you from dreebling... Maybe." He was looking at Sotnik appraisingly, and the serperior got the distinct impression of being drafted for something.
Waving a hand and turning away, Zak started to walk towards the hoop. "Deys, pass heem ze ball. Sotnik, see eef you can catch et."

Sotnik swallowed nervously, sliding away from Deys and turning to face him, lifting his tail up a bit. Deys turned the ball in his fins, then pushed it away, not carrying nearly as much spin, or intent, as Zak's pass, but still surprisingly accurate. Sotnik quicklyed moved his tail to try and catch it-- only for it to barely graze it, and pass him. He whipped his head around, and in a flash, his body darted over, trying to curl around and catch it. It bounced off the coil of his body, and started to ricochet back towards Deys; he swung his whole tail up, and this time, he hit it, but it bounced up, and he watched it arch, trying to ready to grab it. Instead, though, what happened was him essentially throwing his whole body onto it as soon as it came down, in a substantially less than graceful maneuver, leaving him a bundle of coils, with the basketball lost somewhere under the 10ft' tangled mess.
".... Zat vas beautiful, 'Nik," Zak remarked, and the pokemon could hear the laugh in his voice, even though his trainer was only grinning. "Ser..." he muttered, blowing up to get his tail off his face.

While Zak and Deys were trying to help untangle Sotnik, Meebus and Totodile were wandering the city. They weren't talking very much, but after a bit, Meebus finally spoke up. "I suppose we should try and find a train--" He was cut off by a zubat swooping down, harmlessly, probably aiming for something in the air that they didn't see-- only for Totodile to leap up, biting at the zubat, which screeched in surprise. It retaliated with a Wing Attack, but Totodile seemed completely unfazed, jumping up once more, and clamping his jaws down hard, frost rolling from his teeth. Meebus stared, the severely wounded Zubat flopping to the ground. "...." The electric device he had brought with him gave out a little static, but no voice came from it. Totodile simply grinned down at the unconscious pokemon. A few sparks left Meebus. '... Let's keep moving,' he urged after a moment, floating forward, his gaze lifted neutrally back up, 'Zakhav will have wanted us to do a good amount of battling before we meet with him.' Totodile lifted his head, finally paying attention. He looked back down at the little bloodied zubat, grinned, but then frowned and looked up. Meebus was already a ways ahead... He glanced down one more time, but then hopped over, running to catch up, cackling.

Meebus puttered about in his heat form, but paused as he noticed the pokecenter. "Perhaps we should go be sure we are at full health, first," he remarked, already gliding forward. Totodile glanced up at him, grumbling a bit incoherently, but followed. He had taken a hit, and he could use a potion or two, or something, to get him to full fighting condition. It was just the two of them... if they ere going to take on the whole city, they had to be ready!
It was an odd sight, to be sure, to have the two pokemon come wandering on in off the city streets, but Meebus was able to use the communicator Jay had given him to ask Nurse Joy to help revitalize them a bit, and she complied. Once they were both at full health, Meebus swept back out, Totodile hurrying along to keep up, grinning at the prospect of a battle. Luckily, it didn't take too long for them to find a young trainer, tossing a pokeball, and looking around in the darkening streets as if waiting for something. 'Pardon me, Youth Trainer,' Meebus greeted, the young man quirking one eyebrow and giving him a questioning look in response. 'Would you perhaps be interested in a battle?' The kid smirked. "From a couple'a pokemon off the streets? Suuuuure, why thuh hell not... My pokemon could use thuh practice," he drawled back, that smirk turning into a confident grin. Meebus blinked. It was almost like Zak's grin.... but it carried a lot less... what was the word... weight to it. There was an empty, cocky confidence to it; not self-assuredness that had been reinforced over years of trial and error, and success.
The ghost-fire pokemon merely pulled back, waiting with its companion for the young man to send out his first pokemon.

There was a visible change in the young teen's demeanor when the boy's pokemon fell, crisp and toasted, to the ground, twitching. He stared with wide eyes, but then gritted his teeth, returning it. "That's it.... You're gonna pay for that, you b*****d! Using cheap tricks-- c'mon, Rayquaza, let's SHOW THEM HOW TO WIN!!" He violently threw his next pokeball up, and Meebus zoomed backwards, looking up at the pokemon. He blinked a few times, getting a proper assessment, then nodded to Totodile, who was chittering excitedly. "Tototo!!" he snickered, then took two leaping steps, jumped, and clamped down hard with frosted teeth, ice spreading over the pokemon's body as it roared in surprise and pain. Totodile leaped back, landing with pride as the legendary fell, defeated.
"You seem to have underestimated us," Meebus observed.

The trainer was practically shaking with rage now. "SHUT. UP!" he snapped. He paused, then took a deep breath, straightening up. "A fire type, and water type... Well, try fighting one of your own!" he declared, tossing out his next pokemon. Meebus blinked, and so did Totodile, but the latter instantly grinned, ready for battle as the water pokemon was sent forth. However, Meebus quickly swept forward, releasing a discharge of electricity, knocking the pokemon out instantly, much to its trainer's surprise. "You don't seem to actually know what we are..." Meebus remarked with curiosity. Didn't the poor boy have a pokedex to use or something?

Frowning, the boy returned his pokemon, straightening up. He looked down at his two remaining pokeballs, then sent out another water pokemon. "Then... What are you....?" he muttered, bowing his head, staring up at Meebus from under a furrowed brow. Meebus, without taking his eyes off the trainer, took out his pokemon, and replied, "I am a rotom." The boy frowned. "A rotom..." he repeated, rolling around his remaining pokeball, returning his fainted pokemon, and tucking it away.

Gritting his teeth-- and, to Meebus' surprise, with tears in his eyes -- the kid sent out his last pokemon. Ah, an ice type, that explained it. Not a hope against his Over Heat, which he used to quickly knock the pokemon out. 'Overconfidence will get you nowhere,' Meebus remarked, 'You should be more careful in the future, when it comes to underestimating your opponents.' The kid wasn't looking at him-- he returned his pokemon, and turned, heading for the pokecenter. Meebus lifted up a bit, watching him, then turned, floating off in the other direction to find more trainers or wild pokemon to battle. He didn't seem to notice the very odd look Totodile was giving him, one eyebrow lowered and both eyes wide, before squinting one, and then shaking his head. The water pokemon glanced off to the side, the thought tugging at him one last time, before he dismissed it from his manic little mind, and ran on after his teammate.

Once Sotnik was untangled, Zak worked with him a bit on trying to coordinate his moves a bit. He could tell the serperior was still unaccustomed, at least when trying to move fast, to not having any limbs, to not being able to side step, pivot, reach up, etc. Some exercises were simple, tossing the ball to Sotnik and having him simply lift his body up to hit it with his chest, others were more difficult, like attempting to swat it with the thinner end of his tail. After a bit of practice, though, Zak made a motion to Deys, and gestured for Sotnik to stay where he was.
"You seem to have ze basics," he remarked, then added with a shrug, "Ish." Sotnik lowered his head a bit, twitching a little. It was hard, okay? "I'm goeng to have you 'n Deys play 'Defense'. Et means you try and stop me from making a basket." He jerked his head towards the net, then nodded to the Empoleon. "Deys and I vill deemonstrate first, zen you can try vis him. Vhen you do, at ze very least... don't get en hees vay." Sotnik lowered his head further, fuming just a bit. He may have been the highest level pokemon on Zak's team-- and now the largest, to some extent-- but clearly he wasn't as close to 'Captain' as he had thought...

Staying back slightly, Sotnik observed as Deys moved forward, taking a place in front of the net, his flippers out to either side, at the ready. Zak stood before him, watching through half open eyes, a smirk on his face as he dribbled the ball, and clearly assessed the situation. Suddenly, with preparation that took half a second and could barely be recognized, he darted forward. Deys was clearly used to this, though; easily, he moved to the right, the side that Zak was darting towards, but even Sotnik could tell all his weight wasn't in it, and appropriately so. With agility like a freaking pikachu, Zak stopped shifted and zipped to the left, but again, Deys easily moved over. For something so incredibly large, the towering penguin pokemon could move fast. Zak, however, was more lithe, more agile, more flexible. He darted, spun, doubled back, and faked, trying to move around Deys-- no, assessing him. Tricking him? It was hard to tell, he moved so fast.
There was something calculating to his grin, though, beyond the pure thrill of it, and suddenly, Zak pivoted around and planted his feet, and brought the ball in. He leaped up, but Sotnik blinked as Deys merely lifted himself, raising a fin, rather than throwing himself into the guard. Less than a second later, though, it once again became apparent-- Zak brought the ball back in and shot to the right. This time Deys swept over, bringing his other flipper up-- only for Zak to practically vanish. He had pushed off so fast - it hadn't even been a pivot, there was no turn to it - and shifted his weight so fast, that neither pokemon had caught him dart rapidly to the left, slipping under Deys' other arm, which had yet to come down from its upward, block and quickly take two steps, jumping for a layup, and easily sinking the ball.
He was grinning as he landed solidly on the ground, breathing hard, but evenly, in a controlled way. Sotnik was staring with wide eyes, but looked over briefly at a jingling sound, jerking back as something suddenly shot towards Deys. The Empoleon reached up, blocking it with one flipper, and reaching with the other to catch it as it fell down, looking at the little bell. Boo drifted back across the court from where she'd thrown it at him, aiming for the bench, carrying several other little items. When had she... even left...

Zak quirked an eyebrow, moving over to pick up the basketball, and then strolling towards Deys, rubbing the back of his neck. Sweat glistened on his skin, but by the time he reached his pokemon, his breathing was virtually back to normal. Sotnik slithered forward, looking curiously at the little bell that their teammate had hurled at him. "Vat ees et, Deys?" Zak questioned, coming around to look. Deys moved his flipper, offering the item to his trainer. Zak waved it off, turning and beginning to dribble the ball. "Just keep et for now," he instructed. The Empoleon obediently slipped it under his collar, turning to watch Zak lazily make another shot.
"Sotnik," he called, glancing back over his shoulder as he grabbed the ball on it's way down through the net, "You vill be on defense vis Deys. Remember--" "Seerrr," the pokemon reassured, nodding, sliding forward to move under the net, and come up between Zak and the hoop. Zak quirked an eyebrow, then nodded, casually dribbling his way a little ways off, while Deys moved into position. The change between his laid back, almost lackadaisical style, and that fierce, snap-quick playing was enough to give one whiplash.

With the two in place, Zak took a second, pinning the ball under his foot and rolling his shoulders. He stretched his neck, then his arms, and rolled them once more, before picking up the ball. Sotnik could see the change; from the casual, nonchalant preparing, to the animalistic readiness to attack. It was like a breeze that swept up as Zak lowered himself down, the change that overcame him. By the time the ball hit the ground, even his expression had changed, from detachment, to a wild grin, fire in his eyes. It would have almost been chilling, if Sotnik didn't have a strange impression of childlike joy from Zak, and hadn't already seen it happen.
Still, the observation almost cost him-- he nearly forgot how fast he moved. Zak immediately went towards Deys' side, then spun back and darted towards Sotnik. The serperior easily lifted up his tail and rose his body up, and Zak was gone again. He shifted between them, constantly trying to fake them into moving. He got Sotnik far more often than he did Deys, but he didn't take a shot. Suddenly, he darted in, to try and get between them-- when had that space gotten there? -- and Deys stepped in to quickly close him off - only for him to spin around fast, and get to his other side. He leaped up, and Deys quickly shot his flipper up in the air. The shot was blocked, easily, but Zak twisted his body, shifting the ball to his right arm and extending it down and out, before tossing the ball up. He'd gotten far enough to the side... It took Sotnik a second, but he realized that the shot was aimed to go behind the backboard, up, and over, into the net.
And it did-- or at least, it went behind the backboard, and up, but it was overshot, and missed the hoop.
Zak landed, nearly losing his footing from the odd angling, but kept himself up, tsking in annoyance at the miss.

"Sotnik, vould you go get ze ball?" Zak requested, closing his eyes as he ran a hand along his jaw line, replaying the shot in his head. Deys looked at his trainer, watching him, and so neither saw the ball suddenly come flying at them until it was practically at them. Zak snapped his eyes open and shot his hands up to catch it just in time, staring with wide eyes, then lowering the ball, narrowing them into slits at Sotnik, who was by the bench, with the girls, staring with eyes like saucers. He glanced to the side, dodgily, then lifted a tail, hesitantly pointing to Daeva and Boo. Daeva seemed to stare back at him, from where she was curled up, and Boo looked quizzically up at the serperior, munching on another ball of chocolate.
Zak looked greatly unamused. "Nice. Pass." He spoke dryly, still staring unnervingly at the serperior, who ducked down, and quickly slithered his way to the net, his trainer watching him the whole time. He hadn't meant to hit it with so much force... and he sure as hell didn't think he could aim that well!
In all honesty, it actually was a nice pass, but it had also nearly nailed Zak in the face, so he couldn't really, sincerely, give the pokemon too much credit. He also had the distinct impression it had been at least, 30-50% on accident.
Shaking his head, Zak lowered the ball, and dribbled his way back to his position, while Deys turned, and resumed his spot as well.
